Defining a report server in forms

Hi,
I'm trying to integrate Oracle Forms and Reports 9i.
When I do this using a report server as an operating system process it works fine, however, when I try to do this using the J2EE servlet I doesn't seem to work.
When I define the reports server in forms, i was previsouly using the name of the service, ie. localrepserver. However, I'm a bit confused as to what to set when using a servlet.
I've tried using the URL http://localhost:8888/reports/rwservlet
any idea's?
Thanks guys

Am I right in thinking that there are two forms of reports servers, an operating system service (rwserver -install [report_server_name]) and a J2EE servlet (http://localhost:8888/reports/rwserver)?
I'm basically trying to use oracle forms to generate and display a html report, from a .rdf file.
The sciprt i'm using to do this is as follows,
DECLARE
     rep_result VARCHAR2(30);
BEGIN
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY('sample', REPORT_FILENAME, :GLOBAL.project_path || 'sample.rdf');
SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY('sample', REPORT_DESNAME, :GLOBAL.project_path || 'sample.htm');
rep_result := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT('sample');
WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('file:///' || :GLOBAL.project_path || 'sample.htm', '_blank');
END;
In the forms property palette, there are various properties you need to define, one being the 'report server name'.
Previously, i used an operating system service as the reports server. I called this 'localrepserver'. Therefore, it was easy enough to define in the property palette. However, i'm trying do this using a servlet method. Here, i'm unsure as to what to define in the 'server' field of the property palette.
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers,
Nick

  • Start report server from forms.

    Im working with Forms & Developer DevSuite in Red Hat Linux ES/AS.
    Sometimes when I call a report from form using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT the report server is up & working but the forms dont find it & say FRM-41213 error, but after trying sometimes it begin to work.
    Question : ¿ Is there anyway to start and stop report server from forms ?
    Thanks in advanced & regards.

  • How to Find the Hostname / IP Address of Reports Server From Forms

    Hi
    We have following query to find out on which machine form server is running,
    but how to find hostname/ip address of reports server (if there are more than one reports server running and on different machines).
    SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','HOST'), SYS_CONTEXT, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','IP_ADDRESS')
    from dual.
    can anybody answer?
    rocky rocks.

    Our oas name is the same as the box name, and the report server naming convention is rep_(oas name) so that makes it easy to find out.
    I have a pll attached to my form that contains the following function, which works for PC or UNIX based app server:
    -- get_oas_name - Returns OAS name.
    -- caveat:  Can't be run from pre-form, when-new-form-instance or when-new-block-instance of first
    --          block on the form due to webutil limitation.
    FUNCTION get_oas_name RETURN varchar2 IS
      fp text_io.file_type;
      oas_name varchar2(30);
      op_sys varchar2(30) := get_application_property(OPERATING_SYSTEM);
    BEGIN
      if op_sys = 'WIN32COMMON' then
        oas_name := webutil_clientinfo.get_host_name;
      elsif op_sys = 'SunOS' or op_sys = 'UNIX' then
        host('/bin/uname -n > /tmp/oas_name');
        fp := text_io.fopen('/tmp/oas_name','r');
        text_io.get_line(fp, oas_name);
        text_io.fclose(fp);
      end if;
      return oas_name;
    END;Then in when_timer_expired (first place you can use webutil functionality) call it accordingly. I also use it to set platform dependant variables so the form will run
    when I'm working on my PC or deployed on UNIX:
    declare
      :control.op_sys  := get_application_property(OPERATING_SYSTEM);
    begin
          :control.oas_name := get_oas_name;
          :control.report_server := 'rep_'|| :control.oas_name;
          if :control.op_sys = 'WIN32COMMON' then        -- For running locally during development.
            :control.close_page := 'http://127.0.0.1:8889/forms90/common/window_close.htm';
            :control.rpt_temp := 'c:\temp\';
          elsif :control.op_sys = 'SunOS' or :control.op_sys = 'UNIX' then
            :control.close_page := 'http://'||:control.oas_name||'.yournamehere.com:7779/forms90/common/window_close.htm';
            :control.rpt_temp := '/appl/oas/yournamehere/reports/cache/';
          end if;
    end;Good luck,
    Gary

    Hello !
    You can try to use only the web.show_document call
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('/reports/rwservlet?report=agent.rdf&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss&server=srv&userid=you have to enter your username/passwort@database net name here,'_blank');
    Have you defined the path for the stored reports ?
    Try to locate the registy key REPORTS_PATH in the registry and add the root C:\project\reports . to the key

    Hi All,
    I have an oracle forms application available on a machine server1 with url http://server1:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=x and the same application also available from another machine server2 with url http://server2:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=x
    The reports server name is stored in a database table as rep_server2.
    When i attempt to call a report from a form running on the server server2, the report call is successful. However when i attempt to call a report from the same form running on the server server1, i get an error FRM-41213: Unable to connect to the report server rep_server2
    How do i get the call to rep_server2 to work from the url http://server1:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=x
    Thanks

    1 Are the server 1 & 2 in the same network?
    2 Are the reports versions in 1 & 2 are same ?

  • Accessing clustered report servers from Forms

    Hi
    The "Oracle Fusion Middleware Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services 11g R2 (11.1.2)" manual in Section 2.5 talks about setting up a High Availability environment for Reports.
    It discusses how to set the cluster configuration and how to create a reports job repository in the database. It says that you need to have a unique name for each report server, finally it says that you should use Oracle Web Cache to load balance for the reports cluster.
    If you are calling the report server from Forms with a run_report_object then you don't go via the web cache, so I am confused how you send your report request to the reports cluster in a load balanced fashion.
    Has anyone done this or can explain how this works for Forms?
    TIA
    Tony

    I know that this is an old thread, but I've taken the liberty to bump it up, as I have the same question.
    The Reports documentation describes quite succinctly how to configure the report servers to be clustered - no problem there.
    The issue is that when you run a report from forms using run_report_object, you are required to specify a report server name. The Reports docs specify that all of the server names must be unique, so this seems to indicate that you cannot use a clustered report server environment from Forms, or am I missing something somewhere? Oh, wait - an insight coming here - Can you (I'll test this, but it would be good to know) specify a cluster name instead of an actual report server name? Google to the rescue:
    Using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT: If the call specifies a Reports Server cluster name instead of a Reports Server name, the reports_servermap environment variable must be set in the Oracle Forms Services default.env file. If your Oracle Forms application uses multiple Reports Server cluster names, you can map each of those cluster names to a different Reports Server using reports_servermap in rwservlet.properties, as follows:
    There's the answer. Sometimes writing the question down helps figure out the answer :)

    Omar,
    the Smart Agent is a part of the Object Request Broker (ORB) used by the Reports Services internal communication. Seeing the Smart Agent window shows you that the Reports Server is running. The problem you are having is that the Reports Servlet that you run from the URL in the Web implicitly starts the Reports Server for you. Forms does not use this Servlet for reporting and thus requires the Reports Services to be up and running when first requesting it. You need to start the Reports Server prior to using it with Forms. E.g. as a service:
    rwserver -install repsrv
    to install it as a windows service

  • Oracle Forms and Report Server and MS IIS Coexists in one Server

    Dear All,
    I have a Windows 2003 Server with two IPs and have IIS bind (10.1.1.20) to one IP and Oracle (10.1.1.21) bind to the other. But only one service can only run at any one time. Can someone help on how to make the two coexist on port 80 on different IP on one machine. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kueh.

    Default settings for forms session timeout is 15 Minutes. But heartbeat parameter (default 2 minutes) doesn't allow AS to close idle sessions. So define heartbeat=20 in your formsweb.cfg file.
    As far as reports are concerned set engineResponseTimeout="15" in your report server configuration file. This setting will not allow any report to remain in the queue for more than 15 minutes.

  • Calling Reports from a Form - Application Server Forms and Reports Services

    Hi
    We currently are running App Server 10G Forms and Reports and Oracle DB 11G. Forms are running fine with the Apps Server but what I need to find out is how do I set the path for the .rdf files of the reports and how do I configure the Apps Server to present the Reports? I am sure we have to edit a .conf file and add the server name but not sure what to do or how to do it?
    ps. I am a newb but I managed to get both of Apps Server and Database configured on my lonesome so I am just missing the info on the Reports side of things.
    The Developer has asked the following questions :-
    We want to run a report created in report builder from forms by using the following command in forms;
    web.show_document(v_url,'_blank');
    what does v_url need to be - we need to find an example showing the v_web_address and v_rpt_server
    v_url := 'http://'||v_web_address||'/reports/rwservlet?server='||v_rpt_server||'+report=test_report.rdf &desformat=PDF&userid=user/pw@database'
    Do we need to make changes on the report server configuration and where should the rdf files reside?
    Regards

    I have installed Forms+Reports server on the same machine with their builders too. But then Forms & Reports server does not function when i call my .fmx file in browser the message,
    "Java applet loading" appears but then the process hang up.
    But when only installed Form server my .fmx file works.I also want to call my .rep files from forms.
    May i can not have Forms+Reports server on the same machine?
    Separately they work but not both but i require both how!
    I have also seen when both installed and when i start services of both then ifweb60.exe is called two times in memory, it shows from task manager's process tab.
    Please help!
    Many thanks

    1. Check these files to make sure you have the correct port settings for your forms: formsweb.cfg, base.htm
    2. In your Windows Registry:
    a. Add path for Reports Server (REPORTSxx_PATH)
    b. Make sure you also have FORMSxx_PATH defined
    c. Check values of your OracleFormsServer.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    ControlSet001
    Services
    OracleFormsServer
    Verify the values of Host, Mode, Pool and Port.
    3. Check Metalink Note 97487.1 for additional info.
    And YES, Apache, Forms, Reports and Graphics can all run in the same machine.

  • 11.1.2.0 forms cannot connect to report server

    11.1.2.0
    I have a new install of 11.1.2.0 forms and reports. I am using my 10g fmb and rdf and pll files all recompiled to 11g. So, the forms, reports, plls are all coded correctly and have worked for years as 10g forms. The 11g forms run fine and so does webutil in weblogic 10.3.6. However, I cannot get the forms to call the reports. I have changed the rwserver.conf file for both the in-process and stand alone servers to point to the reports rdf/rep path. I can call reports from a url and see the report successfully run in report queue so I know the path is set correctly to the reports. I know run_report_object in the form is returning 0 (zero) and always trying to "getjobid0". The form returns frm-41212: Unable to connect to the report server. I have set my report server name in the default.env file to the in-process server. Like I said the form has worked for years as a 10g form calling reports. This has got to be a setting somewhere that I havent done. Any ideas?

    Dear Friend,
    Could you please show me the code for calling the report??
    maybe i can help you.

  • How to add a new font into Report Builder and Oracle Forms/Reports Server?

    Hi,
    I've searched the forum and can't find this being discussed.
    My developers run Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2 on their XP laptops.
    Their reports run (in production) on Oracle Forms/Reports Server 10.1.2.0.2.
    This server runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
    They've got a client who wants reports using the "Garamond Western" font.
    So....how do I get this font onto the developer's Report Builder laptops, and onto the Oracle Forms/Reports Server?
    I've moved various 'Garamond' fonts into C:\WINDOWS\FONTS on both the laptops and the server, but neither seem to recognize it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks.
    This answers 1/2 of my question.
    The developer can now use Report Builder on his laptop, with the new fonts.
    But when he moves this new Report to the Oracle Application Server/Forms-Reports Server, it fails to use the new fonts.
    The Oracle App Server/Forms-Report Server is Version 10.1.2.0.2. It runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
    I have installed the exact same fonts on this server, into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.
    I have used REGEDIT to change REPORTS_PATH....and placed C:\WINDOWS\Fonts; as the first value in this field.
    I have then stopped and restarted the Forms-Reports Server.
