Delay with Linear Phase EQ

Hi!
I woukd like to know .
Why i have delay when i use LPEQ?
There is no delay with other Logic's plugins .
Thanks!

It's required for the nature of the algorithm. You can use PlugIn Delay Compensation. Also, ChannelEQ's settings are interchangeable with LPEQ's - use Channel while tracking if you must.

  • Audio gets delayed with Plugin - Help please!

I have a simple setup. Several external MIDI modules and an M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI card in the G5. MIDI synth audio is mixed with the 192 audio externally on an analogue mixer.
All is well until I add a Linear Phase EQ plugin into the Main audio output in LP. Suddenly all the Audio is delayed slightly compared with the MIDI! If I bypass the plugin it's fine again. I thought there was a setting somewhere to compensate for this but darned if I can find it. Anyone?
    I'm using LP 7.2

    Go to Preferences ->Audio...->General
There you can change settings for Plug-in delay compensation.
If you want to play live, use Chanel EQ instead.
Also don't use the AdLimiter live.

  • Generate and synchronize 6 digital channels with differents phases/frequencies/duty cycles/...

    Hello,
For some kind of tests we need to generate, with a 6534 card, 6 signals.
The 6534 has 32 digital E/S and can go up to 20MB/s !
Each channel must be independant so that it can have it's own frequency and duty cycle. But for exemple the second channel can be delayed in reference at first channel. I put an image so that you can understand better what i try to do (3 signals are shown but six are needed).
I see a lot of things on forum that are close to my probleme, but none seems to be as advanced as mine.
    http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4683 -> 6534 doesn't have timers
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=40&message.id=5167 -> Just a phase probleme

I contacted NI support, they send me an exemple on "patterns" but it generates frequencies that are multiple of one with no phase consideration or duty cycle.
    Any idea ?
Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

At best, that's gonna be a pain in the neck with that board.  If you need very precise timing for freqs, duty cycles and offsets, it gets worse.  If they need to change on-the-fly, it'll be near-impossible.
    1. You can only operate 1 hw-timed digital output task at a time.  So all 6 signals must be part of that 1 task.
    2. Thus, you need to define an output buffer representing the states of those 6 bits throughout your entire generation.
    3. There's a bunch of greatest common factor and least common multiple stuff needed to figure out the right output rate and buffer size, assuming you'll want to regenerate repetitively.  You first need the gcf of all the transition times to come up with the right output rate since all the transitions need to occur on some integer multiple of the output period.   You'll then need the lcm of the 6 signals' periods, combined with the output rate, to size up a buffer that can be regenerated.
    4. Forming the output data array may be quite complex.   Personally, I always do my stuff with raw arrays and I know that interleaving all those signals can be quite tricky, especially if there may be an occasional simultaneous transition.   However, I suppose there's a chance that some of the digital waveform functions *might* make this step a bit simpler.  I just haven't played around with that format much.
Editorial opinion: Buy a 6602.  You can trigger 6 counters to start with different initial phasing, and will be able to change freq & duty cycle on-the-fly for each one independently.
Editorial opinion #2: For higher channel count apps, I'd also recommend checking out the DIO-64 board put out by Viewpoint Systems, an NI Alliance partner.  It gives you much smarter hardware-timed DIO.  With the NI board, there can be huge amounts of redundant info in the DO buffer.  If you find that your GCF is 10 microsec, but the time between consecutive transitions is 10 millisec, you'll have to stuff 1000 identical values into your output buffer.   With Viewpoint's board, your data acq buffer *only* contains data at the transition times.  Timing is controlled by delivering a separate array defining the timestamps that correspond to those transitions.

  • Least square linear-phase FIR filter

I need to geta second order derivative of an array based on 2 stage filtering with a least square linear phase FIR "differentiator " filter. Previously this was done using the matlab routine firls using the "differentiator" tag. Any ideas how this can be done in LabView?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't believe that LabVIEW has any differentiation functions that use this algorithm. The only derivative function is located in the analyze, signal processing, time domain. You would probably have to build your own.

  • Linear Phase EQ and Latency?

So after reading up on all the positive tidbits of the Linear Phase EQ vs. the good old fashioned Channel EQ, I decided to start giving it a shot. I like the subtle nuances LPEQ has over CEQ and have been enjoying it.
Tonight, however, I ran into a major issue. Every instance of the LPEQ introduced some nasty latency onto the track it was put into. I tried to EQ a kick drum and the thing became so far off that I couldn't believe it. Bypassing the plug immediately sent everything back to normal.
Why does the LPEQ introduce so much latency when used? Is there any sort of workaround to lessen the effect? I bumped my buffer settings up to 512 and there wasn't a bit of difference. What's going on in the LPEQ that would make that drastic of a change? Am I missing something?

    Thanks for the input, noeq.
    You're weclome Brent
For the record, the latency issue started before
changing any settings. There's also no recorded
audio in the session file, all of it is soft-synths
    and samplers.
I am devising a test for the synths only...without any audio in the session.I'll keep you posted on what I find.
Are you suggesting that PDC should be off to avoid
    the latency issue?
At this point I am not suggesting ANYTHING.so please don't change your setup until you can find out exactly why the latency happens.By Sunday I'll have results of my tests for you to look at.
I don't think it's just my issue or a myth,
especially since tbird, iS and X all posted as having
the exact same issue with the LPEQ.
I'll be looking into this.So far with my only test,to determine default latency of Logic Plugins only,I have found it to be the case that the GuitarAmp Pro and the Space designer reverb DO have different latencies, after all other latencies have been accounted for.The Linear Phase EQ in this particular test, came out to have no latency.
Perhaps it will be a different result when I do the synth-only test.
But until I do the test,I cannot know.
Here is one of my favorite quotes, from aristotle:
"We suppose ourselves to possess unqualified scientific knowledge of a thing, as opposed to knowing it in the accidental way in which the sophist knows, when we think that we know the cause on which the fact depends, as the cause of that fact and of no other, and, further, that the fact could not be other than it is. Now that scientific knowing is something of this sort is evident-witness both those who falsely claim it and those who actually possess it, since the former merely imagine themselves to be, while the latter are also actually, in the condition described. Consequently the proper object of unqualified scientific knowledge is something which cannot be other than it is.”

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.

I use Firefox 95% of the time, and there's no problem with flash content (and I'm still at .55 - downloaded .64 last week but I haven't got round to making the change yet). At the rate they've been changing it recently it may well be out of date already .
I've been trying it in Safari, too with no problems apart from You Tube, but that's because I'm blocking Google cookies.
One thought does occur - if your Flash preferences are set to block all Local Storage, it may be that the problem site is trying to use Flash cookies (LSOs). I had this problem recently with the BBC iPlayer streaming content. Little Snitch notified an attempt to connect to a new URL - emp.bbci.co.uk.
If I disallowed it, no streaming; when I allowed the connection, it still wouldn't stream, so I did a bit of digging and came to the conclusion that it was trying to set a Flash cookie. When I unblocked, lo and behold - streaming resumed as normal.
I now have LSOs blocked in a more subtle way that lets the site think it's being set (but it ain't) and the streaming still works.
As for permissions repair - always repair from local; the permissions on the original disc will have been superceded by updates and new installations of Apple software.
DU needs to be reading the packages on the HD, not the (now out of date) install disc.
The recurring repair messages are normal and don't mean anything's wrong. As long as the final message is 'repair complete' there's no need to dwell on it.

  • Working with Linear EXRs in AE - How?

I've recently been playing around with Linear EXRs (exported from Red footage using RedCineX), but I have some questions about how to work with them in After Effects.
    1) As I import the files into AE they look dark, even when I have the interpret as linear light on. If I have it off they look really dark. Which is all correct I guess. But, even with linear light on, how do I go ahead and work with the files. They're too dark for green screen keying for example. My project is set up to 32bpc, Linear, sRGB in CS5. I could use viewing LUTs, but that wouldn't really help with the actual keying for example.
    2) How would I go ahead to work with a file that isn't linear to begin with, say for example that my foreground is linear EXR and my background is gamma corrected DPX. They look very different, and I wouldn't want to darken my bg to match my fg. I would guess you'd have to use the color profile converter. Ideas?
    3) I tried exporting a LOG file out of RedCineX and converted that to Linear Light using the technique posted on Prolost.com (http://prolost.com/blog/2008/3/15/red-log.html). So if both images are in linear light, they should look the same, right? They don't. The redlog file is still brighter. But log to lin technique tells me to gamma of 1,7 to do the linear light conversion. Should I apply a gamma of 1,7 to the EXRs as well? Feels strange.
A lot of questions I know, but I would really appreciate if someone could help me out. I've read everything I could find about Linear Workflow in AE and couldn't find an answer.

No one? I thought EXRs was the new standard after dpx?

  • Click Firefox shortcut - 4 secs delay WITH white screen, then firefox loads, also every new tab flashes a white blank page fOR half a sec.

Firefox 31, Windows 8.1, AVG, Spybot, dusabked addins ni change, used several suggestions on internet, nothing works. changed proxy settings to manual 127.0.0.1 and port as suggested - no change, could I have an NSA reroute of firefox?

Before doing anything I started Tor Browser Bundle, then exited. Started up Firefox – no 4 secs delay, very minor delay but no white page at all it seemed. Then clicked on the Open New Tab (x) and saw a white flash then the new tab – again a .5 sec delay or less before the new tab appeared.
Shutdown computer. Restarted and clicked on Fireforx shortcut. No blank white page anymore and no delay except for a very minor one.
But still had the white page flash when loading a new tab from the small x on the current page tab. Saw a white flash, then the new tab loaded. Shut down computer, restarted same problem with the new tab click on the small x - .5 sec or less white flash then tab loads.
Went into Firefox Add-Ons and disabled a number of items. Surprise no white flash on loading new tab. Decided to enable AVG PrivacyFix 5.0.11 – miracle, no white flash at all on clicking the small x on the current tab. loaded veryfast no delay there.
Will alert AVG of this issue. But still very surprised that the original main issue of having a 4 secs delay with a completly whtie screen with nothing on it except white disappeared after launching Tor Web Browser throws me for a loop.
Have not tried BlueHell yet and wonder why I should now in addition to the fact that AVG is certainly far superior to it. But if Bluehell does a better job than AdBlocker, willing to try it.
Problem appears solved – Why did Tor fix main issue?

  • Logic's Linear Phase EQ vs. Waves Renaissance EQ

Hi all, I was wondering what your opinions were in regard to these two EQ's. Which one seems to be the way to go, and what are the differences between the two?
Are there some things that one would be god for over another, or is one just flat out better than the other for all things?

I have never used renaissance so im not sure about the two, but in theory any linear phase eq is better than one that is not due to the mathematical algorithms that it use to process the audio.
The way it works is that most eq's are made to be processor friendly so they have a few downfalls which is a slight phase distortion , this can be heard most when moving a peak notch along the spectrum. Most of the time this won't really be noticed but linear phase eq's resolve this problem but will consume alot more CPU, as the maths is considerably larger.
My recommendations though are to use 2 eq's which i love by PSP. NEON (linear phase) NITRO (normal), plus another great plug is Vintage Warmer2. As me my friends say: if it moves Vintage warmer. Well there u are, a short answer to ur question.LOL Thanks Stu.

  • Linear Phase EQ

Not hearing the difference at all to be honest.. ::: What is the use of this in Lemans terms?

You'll hear, and notice the difference immediately if you are trying to EQ a stereo recorded sound, say, like a stereo mic's acoustic guitar.
If one side of the stereo signal needs EQ's, such as if the two mics weren't the same make and model, and you try and add channel EQ to that track, the signal will become heavily out of phase. You'll hear the image shift drastically, and the timing will be off as well.
The Linear Phase EQ will keep the signal in phase, using this example.

  • Generating 2 clocks with different phase using PXIe-6674T ??

    Hi,
is it possible to generate 2 clocks (same frequency) with different phase using PXIe-6674T ?
    regards,
    Yan.

    hi,
somehow i cant use the daqmx digital counter to generate nice 10MHz pulse train with my pxi 6733.
The option now I can use my timing module pxie 6674T to have base clock 40MHz, and then using divisor 1 and 2  I can generate 2 synchronized clock in PFI0 and PFI1.
Then I use function connect terminal to connect Oscillator and PXI_Clock_10 to get my pxi chassis synchronized with my timing module.
Then I use pxi clock as reference to generate my digital signal with pxie 6544.
Somehow, my generated signals; clock from timing module, pxi clock from backplane and digital signal from pxie 6544 are not synchronized. The phase difference keeps changing.
I dont see any Init.vi while working with pxie 6674T. I'm assuming I can simply connecting clocks and triggers through RTSI bus, then generate my digital signal with 6544.
I need help to have 10Mhz from 6674T and another 10Mhz from 6544 with 1/4 phase difference between them, which should be stable all the time.

  • Long Unresponsive Delay with Spinning Color Wheel After Compressor Launches

    I'm running FCS3 with Compressor 3.5.
After I launch Compressor, there is a 1-2 minute delay before it will respond to my mouse clicks. The Choose a template window will finally appear after the long delay and then Compressor is responsive to user input.
The reason why this is happening is because I have six (6), yes 6, external optical DVD and Blu-ray burner drives connected to my Mac Pro through a combination of FireWire and USB. When I turn them all off, the delay and unresponsiveness in Compressor is significantly shorter (about 6 seconds). Compressor tries to scan for all your optical drives upon program startup, and this can take a long time if you have many optical drives connected. This issue does not exist in Compressor 3.
This is just a tip for anyone else out there who may have several optical drives connected to your Mac. If you only have one or two optical drives, then you may only see a 6 second delay with the spinning color wheel after Compressor starts up, which is bearable.

Again, this is just a tip. If you want to avoid long delays after starting up Compressor, then disconnect or turn off any external optical burning drives you may have connected.

  • Voice delay with iPhone 5s

I experience voice delayed conversations when using my iPhone 5s - way more than my 4 ever had. Why? Verizon in both cases.

If anything, that would more than likely be carrier related. I used to see that a lot with Nextel devices. It had to do with their network. You can try a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. See if that helps. You can also go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings, which will also reset your cell network, and any wi-fi networks and passwords and see if either helps.
