Delete sga_max_size parameter.

Hi,
How do I delete the sga_max_size parameter, currently I have
SQL> show parameter sga_max_size
NAME TYPE VALUE
sga_max_size big integer 260641504
I want to delete this entry from the init.ora parameter and create a new spfile, but I don't see this entry in the init.ora file. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Why do you want to 'get rid' of this parameter? Any particular problem with this?
Well, bad news, you cannot get rid of this parameter, even if you are able to 'delete' this parameter its value is dynamically computed at instance startup time. Now let's assume, since you haven't specified so, that you have manually set this value. Assuming that you have started your instance with spfile (not specified either) you need to issue the ALTER SYSTEM comand.
Check which initialization parameter file you are using, most probably, (if configured by default) you are using spfile, so from a command prompt issue the command:
show parameter spfile
This will let you know the path to this file.
Once you have found the file, just issue a CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE; command, this will create a text parameter file you can modify, if you don't feel comfortable with the ALTER SYSTEM command. You can take it back to spfile by issuing CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE;

  • Can not delete a parameter of a mapping in a process flow

    Hi,
I want to delete a certain input parameter of all mappings in a flow with tcl.
    I use this:
    OMBALTER PROCESS_FLOW '$flow' DELETE PARAMETER 'IP_VERSION' OF ACTIVITY '$act'
If i test this in the OMBPlus window it says it deleted it however it is still there i the flow.
If i use this statement in a tcl script the script halts without message.
    It says :
    Process Flow Parameter IP_VERSION deleted.
    process Flow PFP_MIKE_1 altered.
And when i retrieve the parameters afterwards it is indeed stil listed:
    OMBRETRIEVE PROCESS_FLOW '$flow' ACTIVITY '$act' GET PARAMETERS.
    Can somebody confirm:
--that i am using the proper syntax
--if this is a known bug in owb 10gr2 10.2.0.1.31

    Nobody ?
    I did some more testing.
The clause i am using is this: deleteGenericActivityParameterClause
    deleteGenericActivityParameterClause = PARAMETER "QUOTED_STRING" OF ACTIVITY "QUOTED_STRING"
See here: http://docs.oracle.com/html/E14406_01/chap4003.htm for the 11g verrsion.
My flow has calls to other mappings in it.
Both the mappings and the flow itself have this input parameter IP_VERSION.
It seems the OMBplus parser is making an error.
When i specify the name of the input param that is of the flow(and not the mapping in the flow) , but the rest of the command specifies the mapping activity as in OP, then OMB says that it deleted the parameter and that it altered the flow.
    And it halts there.
But when i check the actual flow nothing has changed.
When i specify the name of parameter that the called mapping has , ofcourse with the full command line as in OP, then OMBplus says it can not find the specified parameter.
So it seems that the parser makes two errors:
When searching for the parameter it looks in the wrong place, it always looks in the flow section instead of the acitvy specified.
The ' OF ACTIVITY '$act' ' part is not used it seems.
The delete part of the instruction is also confused by this and says it deleted the parameter but nothing actually happens.
Hope somebody can confirm/shed more light on this.

  • Can't delete dynamic parameter after deleting command

I have a report that I inherited.  It used commands instead of stored procedures to retrieve the data.  I needed the data in a stored procedure, so I went through and systematically switched everything over to the stored procedure fields.  When I thought I had it all moved over to the new fields, I deleted the commands.  I then went to publish the report using the Publishing Wizard.  It told me that I had unused parameters.  When I went back to check the report, I found 2 unused parameters.  I tried to delete or edit them and I can't do either function (I click the delete or edit option and nothing happens).  I tried adding the command back in, but I still couldn't delete them.  The parameters are definitely not being used anywhere in the report because:  1) I have checked everywhere and 2) they do not display the usual check mark when a field is being used.
This is an extremely complex report, and it is database intensive on a production server (I've brought the system and its users to its knees by attempting to run the report.  It is designed to run at 5am and it still takes an hour).  So, I'd really rather not recreate the report.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I saw someone else had this issue in April, 2007 (Can't delete a dynamic parameter from report), but it never got resolved (I imagine the user recreated the report).
    Thanks.
    Lisa

    Lisa,
Just taking a guess here (being that I've never seen this happen before)...
1st thing I'd try... Go back to an unaltered version of the report. and see if you can delete the parameter prior to any other modifications.
2nd thing... Add the parameter to the report design and refresh. This should cause the parameters to prompt for values. Hopefully this will, in turn, allow you to modify the parameters.

  • I want to delete a Parameter but it won't let me...

I want to delete the parameter @Subtitle but it won't let me.
It has a green check mark beside it and in the Report definition it has the following.
How do I find where this is and delete it?
    CR 8.5 dev edition

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    4.0 Formulas
    4.1 Record Selection Formula

         Name: {@ConditionLabel}
         Formula: if {?@Condition} = 310 then "New"
         Else if {?@Condition} = 311 then "Used"
         Else "All"

It sounds like this parameter used to be in a stored procedure. I see you removed the reference to it in your procedure which is good. I think to make it disappear you could reset the data connection to a brand new one. If you are using ODBC give the DSN a different name. If you are using a native driver use a different driver like OLE DB or ODBC. Then reset the connection back to the original data source in the report. I think this will force the report to recognize it needs to update the connection information.
If the problem still exists, I recommend creating a copy of this report and removing half the items.  If you get the parameter still, remove half of the remaining items. Keep doing this till the parameter goes away. Once the parameter is gone undo the changes until you find the item that is causing this.
I think you're best bet is to start with resetting the data connection and running it first before setting it back to the original.

    hi Julius,
search parameters entered on the main search screen are not appearing in the do prepare output method.
lr_col_params = lr_qs->get_selection_params( ) doesn't return the value entered on the screen. LOW value is blank.

  • Keep SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter zero

    Hi All;
Is it possible to keep SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter zero & set the SGA_TARGET to a certain value in oracle 10g.

    Dear 788442,
    Here is the answer to your question if you set the SGA_MAX_SIZE to 0;
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/memory.htm#sthref1244
Oracle Database can set limits on how much virtual memory the database uses for the SGA.
It can start instances with minimal memory and allow the instance to use more memory by expanding the memory allocated for SGA components, up to a maximum determined by the SGA_MAX_SIZE initialization parameter.
    If the value for SGA_MAX_SIZE in the initialization parameter file or server parameter file (SPFILE) is less than the sum the memory allocated for all components, either explicitly in the parameter file or by default, at the time the instance is initialized, then the database ignores the setting for SGA_MAX_SIZE.SGA_MAX_SIZE;

  • Is "subdirs 20" usefull? Does changing or deleting this parameter influences performance and if so, how?

Let's say I delete the parameter on a functioning mailserver and I do "imsimta refresh". What happens to the directories and their content? Do they get processed? Do the 20 subdirectories get deleted automatically?
    Problem is I don't have a testmailserver.

Setting more subdirs on a channel is often useful. The exact number of subdirs to use is dependent on your site and what the typical amount of queued mail will be.
The MTA has to scan the queue directories to find out what messages are queued - and just scanning a directory with more than 1000 files will not perform well. So you should always set the "subdirs" parameter so that you will never have more than 1000 files in each subdirectory.
Busy large ISP's will typically set this to 100 for many queues, as they may have tens of thousands of messages queued at any one time.

  • Payment Run: Deleting the parameter

    Hi Experts-
I was doing the Payment Run F110 and than it gave me a message "Company Code XXX is not open for 08 / 2010. I opened the period for that particular company code but still it doesn't work and Payment Status says, "Payment proposal could not be carried out"
When I try to delete that company code XXX in parameter's tab, everything in "Edit" is grayed out and so I can't delete it.
So how can I delete or change a particular parameter or is there any other way I can execute the same payment run?
Thanks for your time abd help.
    Jay

    Hi,
You have to activate additional log to know exact reason for red line items in F110.
If you have already maintained additional log then review your proposal log to find out exact reason why few line canu2019t be paid in current payment run.
    How to activate additional log:
While scheduling payment run in additional log tab enter range of vendor accounts and select check box 1, 2 and 4.
If you have not maintained additional log in current payment run then you have to delete current payment proposal and re-execute the payment run with additional log.
Additionally you can see error code or reason with exception list in F110. Error code will not always suggest exact reason for error.
    Payment Proposal > Exception list.
    Thanks!

  • Unable to set sga_max_size parameter through spfile

My 10g db running in spfile. I am trying to decrease sga_max_size to 1024M where i have 1504 now ...
Do i am not doing in a right way ? Please suggest me
i am trying like this .....
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0
    alter system set sga_max_size =1020M scope= spfile;
    SQL>system altered
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0

SCOPE=SPFILE would not change the in-memory value. So a SHOW PARAMETER would still show the previous value.
You must compare the SPFILE before and after the ALTER SYSTEM. (Don't copy the spfile in a text editor but make a copy of the spfile to view OR use the "strings" command on Unix/Linux . If you accidentally write to the spfile with a text editor you will corrupt it. So, the best way to check the value is to run a CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE and view the pfile which would be the initSID.ora file.

  • Delete Parameter from Database profile

Hi forums, I have a doubt. I have SAP BW 7.0 on Windows with Oracle 10.2.0.2.
The session of GoLive recommend me the following:
    Parameter:
    shared_pool_reserved_size
    Description:
Part of Shared Pool for large statements
    Current Value:
    47799336
    Recommended value:
Delete this parameter name and value from database profile
I delete this parameter from SPFILE, I shutdown the DB and restart ok.
Then I see that this parameter isn't in my SPFILE, but I consult this parameter with SHOW command and it has a value.
    SQL> show parameter shared_pool_reserved_size

    shared_pool_reserved_size            big integer 8178892

    Is normal this action?
    Regards.
    CG

    Hello Gustavo,
    > Why this parameter is active still in oracle?
    > Is normal this action?
Yes, this is completely normal, because of most / every parameter has its default value. So if you don't specify the parameter in the pfile/spfile, you have the default value which is set or calculated by oracle.

  • Increasing SGA_MAX_SIZE  in Oracle 10.2.0.1

    Hi,
we have successfully upgrade our database from 8.1.7.0 to 10.2.0.1
now in the database control, SGA max size is 524MB
i want to increase it, as to increase the size of SHARED_POOL_SIZE and DATBASE_BUFFER size
i have checked the init.ora file, in that there is no parameter mentioned as sga_max_size
from where and how to increase the SGA_MAX_SIZE in 10g version ?
    with regards

    Hi,
Database is using init.ora file in the pfile folder
In the init.ora file i have increased the SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter to 1024Mb from 524Mb
Now, from dbcontrol screen, Automatic Shared Memory Managment is Disabled and i want to make it ENABLE
now when i click on ENABLE button, on the next page it shows total SGa size i.e 332 Mb
and further wheni click on "OK" button for ASSM configuration, it shows the error as below :-
1.) SGATargetSize - ORA-02097 : parameter cannot be modified because specified vale is invalid ORA : cannot set sga_target due to existing internal settings, see alert log for information
in the alert log , it mentions
Cannot set sga_target with db_block_buffers set
    and
    Alter system set java_pool_size='0' SCOPE=MEMORY;
    2) sharedPoolsize - ORA-02097 parameter cannot be modified because specified value is invalid ORA-04034: unable to shrink pool to specified size
now i just mentioned the memory component details for reference :
    shared pool : 104 Mb
    buffer cache : 169 Mb
    large pool : 0
    java pool : 4 Mb
    other : 54 Mb
    total SGA -- 332 Mb
Maximum SGA Size -- 1024 Mb
how to make ASSM Enable ???

  • Sga_target  vs  sga_max_size

    Hi,
I'm using ASMM and sga_target is set to 1000M.
the sga_max_size parameter should be have the same value as sga_target?
    For example: what's happen if i set sga_max_size to 1200M ?
    Thank's

    Hi,
I think, that if you set sga_max_size to 1200M and you have SGA_target=1000M, then you could dynamicaly (without restarting instance) increase sga up to 1200M. SGA_MAX_SIZE is only about possibility to increase your sga and oracle DOESN'T allocate whole SGA_MAX_SIZE - it allocate only your sga_target.
You can test it by decreasing SGA_TARGET by command ALTER SYSTEM SET SGA_TARGET=800M SCOPE=MEMORY; and you can see that memory will be released. You can test it in other direction too - increase sga_target to 1200M and aditional memory will be allocated from free memory.

  • Sga_max_size in 9i

    Hi
Sorry about this simple question but little bit confused.
If I set "sga_max_size" parameter in 9i, Does the sga compenents change (increase/decrease) dynamically while the database is up?
    or
This is parameter only necessary if I want to increase the sga components manuelly while the database is up?

    so, option2.
    Is that right?
    In oracle 9i,
this parameter is only necessary if I want to increase the sga components manuelly while the database is up.
The sga compenents doesnt increase automatically while the db is up.
