Keep SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter zero

Hi All;
Is it possible to keep SGA_MAX_SIZE parameter zero & set the SGA_TARGET to a certain value in oracle 10g.

Dear 788442,
Here is the answer to your question if you set the SGA_MAX_SIZE to 0;
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/memory.htm#sthref1244
Oracle Database can set limits on how much virtual memory the database uses for the SGA.
It can start instances with minimal memory and allow the instance to use more memory by expanding the memory allocated for SGA components, up to a maximum determined by the SGA_MAX_SIZE initialization parameter.
If the value for SGA_MAX_SIZE in the initialization parameter file or server parameter file (SPFILE) is less than the sum the memory allocated for all components, either explicitly in the parameter file or by default, at the time the instance is initialized, then the database ignores the setting for SGA_MAX_SIZE.SGA_MAX_SIZE;

  • Delete sga_max_size parameter.

    Hi,
    How do I delete the sga_max_size parameter, currently I have
    SQL> show parameter sga_max_size
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    sga_max_size big integer 260641504
    I want to delete this entry from the init.ora parameter and create a new spfile, but I don't see this entry in the init.ora file. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Why do you want to 'get rid' of this parameter? Any particular problem with this?
    Well, bad news, you cannot get rid of this parameter, even if you are able to 'delete' this parameter its value is dynamically computed at instance startup time. Now let's assume, since you haven't specified so, that you have manually set this value. Assuming that you have started your instance with spfile (not specified either) you need to issue the ALTER SYSTEM comand.
    Check which initialization parameter file you are using, most probably, (if configured by default) you are using spfile, so from a command prompt issue the command:
    show parameter spfile
    This will let you know the path to this file.
    Once you have found the file, just issue a CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE; command, this will create a text parameter file you can modify, if you don't feel comfortable with the ALTER SYSTEM command. You can take it back to spfile by issuing CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE;

  • How can I keep the leading zero in zip codes from disappearing in Numbers spreadsheet?

    I have a spreadsheet with addresses, and the leading 0 of the zip codes (thanks New Jersey) keeps disappearing... How do I correct this?

    Penny,
    It's easy for 5-digit ZIP codes to use the Number System format. Set to Base 10 and 5 places. Part of the goodness of this approach is that if you have already lost the zeros to the Automatic Format, this will reconstitute them.
    ZIP 5 plus 4 codes are not a problem because the dash in the middle causes a default to Text.

  • Unable to set sga_max_size parameter through spfile

    My 10g db running in spfile. I am trying to decrease sga_max_size to 1024M where i have 1504 now ...
    Do i am not doing in a right way ? Please suggest me
    i am trying like this .....
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0
    alter system set sga_max_size =1020M scope= spfile;
    SQL>system altered
    SQL> sho parameter sga
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    lock_sga boolean FALSE
    pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
    sga_max_size big integer 1504M
    sga_target big integer 0

    SCOPE=SPFILE would not change the in-memory value. So a SHOW PARAMETER would still show the previous value.
    You must compare the SPFILE before and after the ALTER SYSTEM. (Don't copy the spfile in a text editor but make a copy of the spfile to view OR use the "strings" command on Unix/Linux . If you accidentally write to the spfile with a text editor you will corrupt it. So, the best way to check the value is to run a CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE and view the pfile which would be the initSID.ora file.

  • "Keep Alive" parameter for listener?

    Hi all,
    we have following problem:
    From time to time the client (oracle forms 6i patch 18) gets the error message ORA-03114. Te solution is only to kill forms application and start it again.
    This hangs probably on the network breaks in the communication (over VPN) with the database.
    Is there any parameter for listener like "Keep alive" or else, which can rebuild the connection once it lost?
    Best regards

    Paste this into the SQLNET.ORA on the application server or the server that is making the SQL calls to the database.
    Trace_level_client=16
    Trace_directory_client=<path_to_the_trace_directory> # use the full path to the trace directory
    Trace_unique_client=on
    Trace_timestamp_client=on
    Then review the trace or you can try the keep alive in windows
    Use the standard TCP KeepAlive on Windows
    1. Open the registry under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: SYSTEM: CurrentControlSet: Services: Tcpip:
    Parameters
    2. Add KeepAliveTime : REG_DWORD to the registry
    3. Set the value to a reasonable timeout.(decimal and NOT Hex) Like 480000 equals 8 minutes or 120000 equals 2 minutes etc etc.
    - Save this
    - Reboot

  • Windows xp keeps turning wireless zero config.off

    I have a new Toshiba PC which was working well until I connected a purchased/used Ipod mini to it in order to restore it. Since then, this PC has been turning the Wireless Zero Config service off and not connecting to our Airport Extreme. If I restart the PC it will configure for awhile and then randomly loose the connection. When I check the Airport Admin the home network is not identified. Other computers in the network have not problems. This seems to have started when I connected the ipod--it zapped something. I anyone can help, I'd certainly appreciate it. I've tried all many of the support sites at Windows and Apple. Thanks, Betty

    Missing Zero Wireless Configuration Installation
    Enable Display Hidden Files
    - Open Windows Explorer, click Tools, and select Folder Options.
    - Go to the View tab and scroll down until you come across the option “Show Hidden Files and Folders” and check it. Also, uncheck the option “Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended).”
    - Click OK.
    Install the Wireless Zero Configuration Service
    - Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
    - In the Control Panel window, if you’re in Category View, then under Pick a Category, double-click the Network and Internet Connections icon (if you’re in Classic View, click on the Network Connections icon and skip to step #4).
    - In the Network and Internet Connections window, under the Control Panel icon, double-click the Network Connections icon.
    - In the Network Connections window, under LAN or High Speed Internet, click to select the Local Area Connection icon.
    - On the menu bar, click File and select Properties from the file menu. (Altneratively, right-click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties from the context menu).
    - In the Local Area Connections Properties window, on the General tab, click the Install button.
    - In the Select Network Component Type window, in the Click the type of network box, click to select the Service icon.
    - Click the Add button.
    - In the Select Network Service window, click the Have Disk button.
    - Click the OK button.
    - In the Install From Disk window, click the Browse button.
    - In the Locate File window, browse to the C:\Windows\Inf folder (this is a hidden folder).
    - Click to select NETWZC.INF.
    - Click the Open button.
    - In the Install from Disk window, click the OK button.
    - In the Select Network Service window, in the Network Service box, select Microsoft as the manufacturer, and then click to select Wireless Zero Configuration.
    - Click the OK button.
    At this point you’ll need to reboot your PC. With that completed, you should find that the Wireless Zero Configuration service has been successfully installed on your system and you should now have access to the Windows Network tab.
    NOTE: If you don’t see the Wireless Network tab when you go back into the Network Properties Page, then the most likely reason is that the service did not start. To initialize it, open Administrative Tools in the Control Panel and select Services. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration, Right-click on it, and select Start. The service is now enabled, and the Wireless Network tab will be visible in Network Properties.

  • My 4s volume keeps going to zero, whether the buttons are on or not

    Anyone know what the problem might be and how much it might cost to fix?

    Do the buttons still click or they don't?  I have seen the issue before on a 4s. The headphone jack ribbon is going bad and replacing it should fix the issue. Apple does not repair those but unofficial shops do.
    Replacing your broken 4s for a refurb with Apple will cost you $149. Unless if you have warranty/appleare??

  • How to send/keep parameter

    Hi,
    I have a classic report and I linked col1 by another page page3. I have here an text_item that show me this parameter. I try to send this parameter to a procedure and it is not working. How can I keep this parameter in a variable?
    Thank you

    Coco,
    in an APEX PL/SQL Process, you can reference Page Items by using the colon-Notation:
    BEGIN
        MyProcedure (
            p_param1 => :P2_ITEM1,
            p_param2 => :P2_ITEM38 );
    END;brgds,

  • Keeping leading zeros

    I have a series of reports that use Account segmentations that are based on a string of numbers. Unfortunately some of these strings of numbers have leading zeros. (eg. 0023, 0123)
    When the reports are downloaded to excel these leading zeros are lost. Any words of wisdom on how to keep these leading zeros in the report when downloading to excel?

    How would I put the value into double quotes?
    Would this be done under Edit Column Formula?
    If so, I must be doing something wrong. The current column formula is:
    Campaign."Source Code"
    If I change it to:
    "<Campaign."Source Code">"
    I get the following error.
    [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <Code>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)

    Please advise.

  • Keeping leading zero of an integer

    Wondering if anyone can help me solve this small problem.
    Here's what I had:
    for(int i=01; i<13; i++) {
       String month = "2003" + i;
       System.out.println(month);
    }This gives me the following output:
    20031
    20032
    20033
    20034
    20035
    20036
    20037
    20038
    20039
    200310
    200311
    200312
    However, I want the output to be:
    200301
    200302
    200303
    200304
    200305
    200306
    200307
    200308
    200309
    200310
    200311
    200312
    Then I tried this:
    String year = "2003";
    String month = new String()
    for(int i=01; i<13; i++) {
       if(i<10)
          month = year+"0"+i;
       else
          month = year+i;
       System.out.println(month);
    }The code above gives me the results I want. However, I'm thinking that there has to be a better way to do this. Is there anyway to increment the variable i and kept it two digits? I mean keeping the leading zero until it gets to the number 10? Any ideas?

    the previous poster is right. It's also a little odd how you have things setup, in that you're expressing dates with an unusual approach (most people would use Date or Calendar), but, if you want to keep like you have it, I think this might be the easiest solution:
    int date = 200300;
    for (int i = 1; i < 13; i++ ) {
      System.out.println(date + i);
    }

  • Report parameter field value has a single quote. need to escape before pass

    Report has a parameter whose value might have a single quote in it. If I pass that value directly into the SQL Command... like
    where ... user_name = {?parm_user_name}...
    which would translate to
    user_name='O'Donnel Honda'
    I am getting an error... so would like to convert this parameter value into 'O''Donnel Honda' before passing into the query.
    I created a formula called parse_user_name with following:
    Replace ({?parm_user_name}, "'", "''")
    And used in the query like
    where ... user_name = {@parse_user_name}...
    I am getting an error like invalid SQL92 character...

    I think you should use the condition like this
    where ... user_name = '{?parm_user_name}'
    keep the parameter in single quote at the command level itself.
    Now use the same formula like
    replace({?Parameter},"'","''")
    This works only if the parameter is a single value parameter but not multi value parameter.

  • How to reload prototype and keep parameters?

    Hello,
    i changed from Labview 7.11 to the newest labview 2012.
    Now i have some express-vi-teststeps in Teststand 2012.
    In the testplan it says that i have to update the prototypes because they were configured with labview 7.1.1 and are not compatible to lv2012.
    When i click on the blue arrow then the prototype is reloaded, the labview-icon is shown and the teststeps runs again.
    The problem is that after the reload all the custom values for the input-variables of the VI are lost and the default is shown (configured settings from express-vi).
    I also changed the prototype in the types.ini but this seems to be only valid for new-inserted-teststeps.
    So what i need is something like a "reload all prototypes with keeping the parameter-values".
    How can i do this?
    Thanks for help
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Please use update vi tool
    Open your test sequence...
    Go to Tools - Update vi calls ( this needs LV dev on your system)
    In the process express vi call - option - select reload prototype if modified
    This should solve the issue.

  • Supressing Parameter dialog box on Refresh Report

    After some tinkering, I've figured out how to get a parameter passed from a VB.NET form to a Crystal Report:
    Dim paramFields As New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterFields()
    Dim paramField As New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterField()
    Dim discreteVal As New CrystalDecisions.Shared.ParameterDiscreteValue()
    paramField.ParameterFieldName = "MyDateRange"
    discreteVal.Value = Common.MyDates
    paramField.CurrentValues.Add(discreteVal)
    paramFields.Add(paramField)
    crvBalances.ParameterFieldInfo = paramFields
    This works just fine when the report is first opened in the Crystal Report Viewer.  If I open the report a second time, however, using a different parameter, the old data is still on the report, and when I click the Refresh button in the report viewer, up pops that Parameter dialog box.  I set the option to discard any saved data when loading the report, but that didn't help at all.  Is there a way to KEEP the parameter dialog box suppressed and be able to refresh the report?
    I'm running Visual Studio 2008, and using the version of Crystal that comes with same.  Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    I am not sure I quite understand the flow, but here is my view of it:
    Load report
    Enter parameters
    View report
    Close report
    Re-load the same report
    Re-use the parameters entered in (2) above
    View report
    For ensuring that the previous data is not on the report (e.g.; step (3)), make sure that the report is disposed correctly ( use .close and .dispose on the report object). As long as the "Saved Data" option is not enabled (see KBA 1984381), the report should not have any data on re-use.
    Re-using the same parameters as you used in (2) will require that you somehow save what the user entered and on second load of the report, step (5) you enter those parameters in your code. There are no CR APIs that will do this for you.
