Delete User - local files

What happens when you delete an LDAP user? We need to make sure the local files on the users workstation are removed also. Is there a way to do this? Or is it done when the user account is deleted.....

  • I was told to delete user.js file to stop viewing the "tour" page on start, file does not exist, problem remains

i updated, i start firefox 2 tabs open one is "take the tour" tab the other is google, done the tour, a few times it opens up again every time, start of the healing process by typing in the question '"i keep seeing thr "take the tour"page on startup, then following the steps of the expertise i go to help, trouble blabla and i end up looking for user.js so i delete it or rename in a folder that contains folders and other data that nothing in there is like user.js file, so in the following question that is formed above there was no answer so i stepped into this case (only i had to create an account that was not my desire in the process) , thats all i know of.

So, if you do not have the user.js file then you can rename or delete the prefs.js file (pref.js.sav) to see if that helps.<br />
Windows likely hides the .js and shows them as User and Prefs.
You can also try to delete the compatibility.ini file to force Firefox to reinitialize some other files.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • If i have deleted my local files, how can i download all my files at once from the creative cloud server?

    Hi,
My creative cloud files have all been deleted on my machine, all put in the trash (not by me!) I've recovered some but I want to download everything from the creative cloud server before I sync again.  is there anyway to do this? or do I have to download every single file individually, which would take hours......
I can see all my files on the cloud server but can't figure out why it has dumped all my local files in the trash.
    Thanks!

Just to add that, I had exactly the same issue this morning, so it is certainly a more widespread problem rather than an isolated case.
For Adobe's benefit, here's a summary of what happened for me:
All cloud files automatically moved to trash on turning my computer on and auto syncing. All folders remained, but empty.
Files still existed online through the browser, in the Files section and had not been put into Archive.
When I got home to my personal Mac, the exact same situation happened as above. Though I made sure to do a backup before connecting to wifi and allowing it to sync!
Tried signing out and deleting the Creative Cloud files folder, then signing in again, hoping it would re-sync and create all my files again to match what was online, but it just created the directory of empty folders again.
Was on a call with support for an hour which was painful, with them taking control of my screen but having no idea what to do to fix it.
As with you guys, I'd like to download all my files again (not including Archive), but as a batch and not one by one online! Hopefully the sync will fix and download the lot again automatically.
Have you worked out what's wrong yet Adobe?
    Thanks

  • ...now can I delete my local files?

All 3 steps on iTunes match are complete, and I'm satisfied with the results. Would you say it's safe to delete the files locally, and just stream all the content?

After you successfuly "Matched" your songs, you can then delete your originals on your Mac. After deleting them, you will see a cloud icon appear next to the same song. This is the "Matched" version in the Cloud. Click on the cloud icon to download it to your device.

  • Delete User selected file

I have a form that allows a user to upload a file to the server. What I need to do next is delete the file from the users computer after upload. I have been looking online and only found mention of file deletion from the server. Any help would be appreciative.

For blindingly obvious security reasons, HTML forms will not allow you to arbitrarily delete files from the user's own computer.

  • How do I delete a previous deleted user's files off my macbook?

I have just bought a secondhand mac from a friend and he did a terrible job of deleting his stuff on here. He deleted his user account but nothing else. I was wondering if there is a way I can delete his home folder as it is taking up all the storage. I have tried everything and I really hope someone can help me. I am running lion!

Make a note of your AppleID and password, then hold command r keys while booting the computer.
Get online with a fast reliable Internet connection.
Chooce Disk Utility and Erase with Zero option the Lion OS X Partition.
When finished, download a new Lion OS from Apple servers, reboot the machine and your presented with a new setup whcih you can then do what you like, it's like a brand new machine.

  • Deleted user and his invisible files

A program I was running (SageTV) went into its Screen Saver mode and started showing still images that I can't locate with the Finder. The path was something like: /Users/User1/Pictures/iPhoto Library/picture.jpg. I discovered that 'User1' was in the 'Deleted User' folder. What I'm trying to do is locate these invisible files, move them to my active account, and delete these unused folders. Is there any Finder setting that would give me access to the deleted user's files? I have administrator privileges on this computer.

Clearly when the other user account was removed the option to also remove his files was not chosen, so his entire user directory is most likely still intact and available.
I believe if you remember the exact account name, you can restore it and easily access all the files/folders.
    You might also run
    ls -al /users
and see if the account is there with some other user name or perhaps the original name.
If it is User1, then you can access the files from the terminal and move the ones you want somewhere else, preferably a temporary folder to begin with to avoid any permissions issues.
If, on the other hand, the user's files were removed along with his account, that is something else and an admin account may not have sufficient privileges to access the images or other files still on the system.
Lastly, if all else fails, you can activate the root account and access all the files on the computer, but that should be a last resort.

  • Get image from local file system for printing

If a user clicks Print, I would like to be able to print the
stationery header if the user wants to print on plain paper. Can I
pick up the image from the users local file system and add it
directly to the print send object? Prior to this the user would
simply upload the location of the image to the remote server where
the swf resides, or do I have to ask him to upload the image itself
and then download it again every time he uses the program?

Here is a snippet from the Flex 2 user guide about urlloader:
When using this method, consider the Adobe® Flash®
    Player security model:
For Flash Player 8 and later:
Data loading is not allowed if the calling SWF file is in the
local-with-file-system sandbox and the target resource is from a
    network sandbox.
Data loading is also not allowed if the calling SWF file is
from a network sandbox and the target resource is local.
As far as I know there is no way for a user to "trust" an swf
file. This is not like an activeX control.

  • I deleted my local iTunes library (40GB) but I haven't got any more disc space free.

I switched on iTunes Match so I could free up the 40GB of disc space my music uses. I have another MBP that has the full library (no iTunes Match) and backups galore, and I don't listen to music much on my MBPR anyway. So after aeons of uploading it's all done, and I've selected all the tracks in iTunes and deleted them from my local drive (kept on iTM). I've checked the folder and it's gone from 40GB to 3GB, and I've emptied the Trash can, but I still don't have much (any?) additional space on my hard drive. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Greg

Ok, so I now have 46GB free space. I didn't do anything, it just suddenly appeared 24 hours after I deleted the local files. Ah well, jolly good.

  • Opening a Deleted User .dmg?

    Hello,
I have a number of old employee Deleted User .dmg files. If I ever need to gain access to these, can I "log in" via this user (somehow by mounting the .dmg file first?) or does this .dmg file just act as an "archive" of the user account so I can access the files contained via finder?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

Opening the dmg will provide access to that account's files. Being able to log in to an account requires that there is an entry for that account in the NetInfo database, a subset of which is available in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • Time Machine : Deleting all local backups of one of several computers leaves files behind

    Hi,
I'm in the process of transitioning my Time Machine setup. For the moment, I have a local Time Machine volume backing up three Macs to the same Backups.bakupdb folder (I had set that up two years ago before reading Pondini's Time Machine FAQ).
Basically what I want to achieve is have a partition per computer that I'm backing up. So what I did was I partitioned a second external drive into 3 partitions, and I copied my TM partition to each of these 3 temporary partitions. I did that using Disk Utility's Restore tab. My plan was then to delete the backups of two computers off each temporary partition (per question 12 of Pondini's FAQ), to get 1 computer per partition on the temporary drive, then partition my main external drive in 3 and copy back each temporary partition to the main drive.
(The second external drive is lent, I can't just switch to using it.)
From what I read on question 12 of Pondini's FAQ and this reply by Pondini to a similar thread, I thought that deleting all backups of one computer via the Time Machine interface would leave me with an empty folder for that computer under Backups.backupdb, and that I could just delete this folder via the Finder. This is * not * what happened.
After all backups for the first computer I wanted to delete off the first temporary partition are deleted, the folder for this Mac is not empty ; it still contains all the 15 dates folder of the individual backups. What's more, these date folders aren't empty either. The first 12 of them I deleted (the most recent ones) each contains a Macintosh HD folder, under which remains a System/Library/CoreServices hierarchy. The (locked) boot.efi file is alone in the CoreServices folder. The last 3 dates I deleted (the oldest backups), however, still contain an even bigger hierarchy. Applications, Library, System and Users exists in all three, with a lot of subfolders and lots of files, totalizing around 2 GB of data. Most of the files are locked, even logged into root (very diverse files : plists, dylibs, rtf files, fonts, etc) but some are not (apps, and other diverse files : colorsync profiles, dashboard widgets, bundles...). Seems like Time Machine could not delete everything. (Why ?)
Note that I deleted the backups for one computer using that same computer, first using an Admin account for the first 3 or 4 dates and then using the root account to avoid having to always authenticate. (I didn't think it would create a problem... maybe it has?)
When I go back into Time Machine for this computer, no backups remains. It's like if Time Machine doesn't see the data that it could't delete... This is all very strange.
My question is : can I delete these leftover files and folders bia the Finder without fear it's going to break the backups for the other computers on the same partition ? If not, what should I do ?
Sorry for the long post, but I hope I was clear...

It shouldn't; when you delete a backup, the date-stamped backup folder and all it's contents should be deleted.
Most likely, there was some sort of corruption, either on the original or the copies, that left some pieces.  On occasion, that will happen even when Time Machine is doing it's normal "thinning:" there will be a message in the log about finding a "partially-deleted" backup, and trying again.  Sometimes the second try will do it, sometimes not.  In that case, you might be able to delete it after running Repair Disk;  if not, sometimes you can delete it via the Finder.
Under Lion only, deleting backups via the Finder is supported by Apple;  you'll get a message about how it can't be undone.  But it doesn't always work, so is recommended only as a last resort.  Holding the Option key while deleting may help with the locked files.
If you can't get rid of the detritus, however, I'd recommend erasing the affected partition(s) and starting over.  I'd not continue backing-up to a set of suspect backups -- the way they're all linked together, there's just no telling whether you could do a full system restore successfully.
In addition, as Linc says, even if you have some things off-site, I'd strongly recommend getting another external HD for "secondary" onsite backups.  Externals are getting much less expensive all the time, and if there's a problem with the old one (either the drive itself or the backups on it), you'll be in a large pickle.  Plus, of course, drives don't last forever.  See #27 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for some suggestions.

  • User has deleted checked out files

A user has deleted the local roboholp project folder with checked out files. (Robohelp HTML Version 9.0)
The files are published as a webpage so the content is in HTML files - is there a  way to get the content back in Robohelp?
And how can I check-in her files (there is not option in Source Control (Version 3.1.), although I have administrative rights)
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
Not sure about RoboSource Control, but typically a source control application allows one to "Get latest version". The files should still be in the source control database, albeit with a status of "checked out". So you should be able to recover the project by simply getting the latest version. Not sure about how to go about forcing a check in from the user account that is no longer there.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Deleted User forlder reappears with TextHarvester.dat Microsoft file

I deploy Win7 x64 Enterprise build, and before I run sysprep, I delete a folder from a deleted network login.  However, when the image is deployed on all the machines, that folder reappears.  That user should not exist on the machine.  When
I go to User management, that username does not appear.  When I delete that Username folder, Windows recreates it.
    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\InputPersonalizaion\TextHarvester\TextHarvester.dat
How can I prevent Windows 7 from creating that file and that folder structure?   Also, why is it being created, and where is that info stored?
    Thanks!

This one stung me as well, and took ages to locate the problem.
The issue is the Windows Search Service, which is actually recreating this folder on shutdown. To highlight this, delete the folders, then stop the search service and voila they come back again. I thought it might be a problem with the search index and under
Control Panel, I rebuilt the index and once again these files from the deleted user profiles re-appeared.
My solution was to uninstall the Windows Search feature, reboot and then reinstall it. Testing so far shows that the problem is not reoccuring.
Why did it happen? In my case, possible because the Windows 7 image we are building has the User profiles moved to D:\Users, and in the unattend.xml this is done after the Search Service is installed, so perhaps the fault lies there. By default the
Search Service is set to not index the AppData in the Users folder.
    Hope this helps others.
    This solution works great!
Uninstalling Windows Search and the re-installing it solves the problem. :)
