Deleted items still using up space?

iPhone 4, have deleted all videos and nearly all photos off my phone (My Photos and Photo Stream).
When plugged into my computer, iTunes says there is 4GB of photo space  used up.
My phone says there are 4 videos still on my phone.  How do I free up the space for the items I have deleted?
Thx!

Sure hope you aren't afraid of Unix...
From the wife's Mac, open Terminal (applications / utilities / Terminal)
For all of these type in's I say to do, do whats inside the quotes and not the quotes themselves. Or do a copy and paste if you aren't sure on a letter... And press Return after you type them in.
Type in "cd /"
Type in "ls -al"
You should see a .Trashes in here at the top of the list.
Type in "cd .Trashes"
Type in "ls" here and see what you get. It will probably be a folder named 501 for the admin account from your Mac.
If so, do an "rm -R /.Trashes/501/"
and watch your disk space.
If it complains to you that you don't have permissions, you will have to type in "sudo rm -R /.Trashes/501/"

  • If all my photos and video are stored to iCloud, if I delete some off my iPhone will the deleted items still stay backed up to iCloud forever?

I Don't have access to a PC and won't be able to buy an Apple laptop (that I dearly want) for another month or so.
i Desperately need to know if the photos I recently deleted off my iPhone will still stay stored in iCloud backup till I get the laptop and and be able to manage my storage better. Photos are of my kids and I absolutely cannot chance loosing them.
im worried Icloud will see that I've deleted off my iPhone and also delete from my icloud backup?
help pls, I have 13 days left in 'recently deleted' items and want to know if they will stay 'somewhere in the cloud' and they are safely stored there.

  • Deleted items still apear on EKET Table

    Hello All
    my question is the following...
why i still see some schedule lines in EKET from deleted items? if i check on EKPO they are delted if i check in me23n they are deleted but they continue to appear on EKET.
how is the deletion process triggered in eket?
    thanks in advance

the delivery date of a PO is not stored in EKPO, it is only stored in EKET table.
The quantity in a PO item, is just a total of all quantities in the related schedules.
As long you see a schedule line in the delivery schedule tab in ME23N you will have a record in EKET table, no matter if the PO is marked for deletion or not.
You cannot even the delete the single schedule line, SAP will give you a message to enter a quantity.
if you have many schedule lines per order, then you can delete all but one.
EKET table entries get physically removed when you archive the purchase order, together with EKKO and EKPO records and records from some 100 other tables that belong to the object MM_EKKO

  • Deleted files still using up disk space

Long story. Transferred 30Gb of mpegs from my wife's laptop to mine via firewire target disk mode on wife's machine. Logged off to disconnect and when I unplugged, got the disk wasn't ejected error. I thought it was. I had deleted the 30G from my wife's hd before disconnecting. Now, the files are gone from the desktop, but the disk space didn't free up. Still shows only 6 GB free. If I hook it up as a target disk, it shows the 36 free, but when running on its own, only 6 is free. I've repaired permissions, executed all maintenance scripts, repaired disk, verified disk, and run every test in Tech Tool Pro 4 with no help. Turned on invisible files, force emptied the trash with Cocktail, still no help. If you add up the size on all the folders, it gives 30GB less than the drive itself says is used. Where are those files and how do I get the space back?

  • Can't Delete Items in Use

I wanted to delete a download off my laptop. I put the download in the trash and tried to empty it. All it said was 'The operation can’t be completed because the item “...” is in use.'
The reason I want it to be deleted is because it takes up lots of space and I don't want it.
I don't know how to put the item out of use. Please help me with this problem.

Either you have a disc image still mounted, an installer you have not quit, or the application itself is still running or a combination of these.

  • Microsoft Windows 8 Mail App - Deleted Account still used as "From" Account

    Hi There,
My wife has a Surface RT that has been upgraded to 8.1. She has been happily using the mail app (Imap account), and indeed prefers it to the Surface version of Outlook. The other evening I added my own Imap account to the mail app, but then removed it again
as I prefer the outlook version. Now whenever she sends an email from the mail app, it is using my email address as the From account (can see this by clicking "more info" under the To box) even though the account is not there, which results in no
email being sent as there are no server details etc. on which to send it.
How can i change this so that it is only using my wife's account ?
Many thanks for any help you can give.
    Andrew.

  • Deleted files still taking up space

    Hi all,
I've done a search and can't find answers or figure it out. I'm manually managing my iPod through iTunes since I don't want everything to be synched. I've manually deleted various files on the iPod through iTunes, including all video files. Yet in the summary, iTunes still lists my iPod as having 3+ GB of video, even though I've verified there's no video left. I've even deleted a lot of audio files, but iTunes still keeps saying my iPod is full. It's as if my deleted files are still taking up physical space even though I've deleted them. Is there an [empty trash] icon or command I just can't find?
    Thanks!

    Thats it! You're a genius!
The KEY point here is this:
Just like in Itunes, the Music Library and Playlist are two different things.
Just because you delete a playlist, doesn't mean you deleted it from your library.
So, all of this time, I was deleting whole playlists or a few songs from the playlist by highlighting and Edit > Delete. So visually, they were gone. However, everything is still in the library. Every song I ever added since I bought the ipod was still there!!
    SIMPLE DIRECTIONS:
    1. Connect Ipod
    2. In Itunes: Device > iPod > Music - you will see the long list. Manually checking and "sync" does not officially remove it from the ipod (at least not in my case). I manually DELETED them by highlighting and Edit > Delete.
I immediately checked my ipod summary and yes, the space was free!!!!!!!!!!

  • Boot Camp partition deleted but still taking up space?

Specs: Mac OS X 10.5.8, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB memory
Recently procured a used 2008 MacBook Leopard from a relative before going overseas. They also gave me a DVD of Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thing is, I can't seem to partition it in Boot Camp Assistant. It's got 150GB, but only 100GB is actually available.
    1. Boot Camp Assistant gave me:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using BCA again."
    2. Rebooted and held down Cmd/Opt/R keys. Only the HD drive was visible.
    3. Disk Utility. Only one volume: Mac OS Extended (Journaled). So I tried:
    First Aid:
No problems/bugs reported when verifying the disk, so there wasn't anything to repair.
    Erase:
Erased all free space and tried BCA again, still no luck.
    Partition:
Tried adding a new partition and resizing. Tried resizing the original partition. Same result: "Partition failed with the error: No space left on device". Then it just defaulted to the 150-GB sized drive with only 100 GB available.
    Restore:
Tried to restore from the external drive-based backup I made before erasing it the first time. None of the disks could be set as the destination.
I haven't got the install disk or the money to upgrade the OS, so any help would be appreciated!

Well even a good backup program costs something.
Disk Utility is free and can copy the system to another drive (RESTORE TAB)
5.8 is so old you should not be connected to the internet with it probably.
yours is like the 2,999th post of the same error and asking 'what do I do.'
you need contiguous unfragmented free space. Leo 10.5 is not as flexible as later to shrink a partition to help move files to consolidate that free space like 10.6.8 ($20) which is what I would go out and buy.
Carbon Copy Cloner older versions are free/shareware and great for making a bootable backup of your system to another disk drive. Use it!
Not sure what you used or did but to backup and restore you need to use a program that makes bootable backups (you can't just copy files by hand).

  • User folder deleted but still taking up space

Yesterday the Safari 3.1.1 update somehow managed to delete my user folder. After the restart my entire user folder had gone along with all my settings. I have since recovered my files using Data Rescue and Firewire, but there is now another problem. While summing the contents of Mac HD comes to little under 20gb, finder is telling me I have only 10gb of my 60gb HD free. This is the same amount as before the user folder was deleted. This means I am unable to move any of my recovered files of a friends mac back onto my own. Is there anyway to get the HD to recalculate its free space? And of course, if anyone knows of a simple solution to recover my user folder fairly easily (as the recovered folders using data rescue have all come back unnamed and all need sorting) then that would also be useful!!! But I'm not hopeful on that one...
Just to confirm though, all the files from my user folder are definitely not in finder anywhere. I have searched both manually and using the search bar for both files as they were named originally and with the names they have come back with via data rescue. And the total sum of all the folders in HD are about 10gb less than what was recovered, so they wouldn't fit anyway!
    Thanks

Thanks, I will look at that this evening. In other news... I did a verify disk scan with disk utility and it came back with this
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Performing live verification.
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid node structure
    Volume check failed.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
I have been told that i could do something with the leopard disk, but unfortunately that is in another country to me. I am intending to get a new macbook once they are revised so don't really want to spend much, if any, money on this problem if it can be avoided.
    thanks

  • Music gone by upgrading but it still uses my space

So I have an old iPod Touch 4G (I know that it isn't that old) and for some reason it couldn't upgrade from iOS 3 to iOS 5 so I did it on a PC and it worked but my music got moved to another folder so I couldn't delete it so now I am missing over 2.7GB of space on my iPod.
    Can anyone help me??

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Based on other users experiences, y will have to restore the iPod. Some music files got corrupted.

  • Deleted calendar items still appearing on iPhone

Calendar items deleted on the PC (Outlook 2003 or Entourage 2008 - 12.1.7, - both linked to Exchange Server 2007) remain in the iPhone (OS 2.2.1) calendar. I am using wireless Exchange ActiveSync.
It was working fine, but has now stopped removing deleted items.
Calendar items added on the iPhone show up in Outlook/Entourage, so no problem in this area.
I have tried turning 'off' the Calendar on the iPhone, then turning in 'on', allowing it to re-sync, but this has not solved the problem. My MobileMe accounts are all fine.
I had Xerox DocuShare client add-on installed on Outlook 2003, but this was installed well before the problem appeared. It have uninstalled it, just to be sure, but the issue was not resolved.
I am mystified as to why this issue should appear. Any ideas? Thanks in anticipation.

    Thanks for the suggestion Allan.
I deleted the Exchange account and recreated it. Unfortunately the deleted items still appear.
I thought it may be linked to the deletion of single occasions of repeating events, but the failure of single events to delete from the iPhone is also apparent. I appreciate the help.

  • Permanently deleting your deleted items to allow for sent mail

Does anyone know of a way to permanently delete your deleted items folder to clear space on your Exchange Server so that you can send more mail? My server caps me at a mailbox of 100Mb. If I go over that, I must empty my deleted items folder to send more mail. Blackberry has this built in...has anyone found this on the iPhone?

    YM NYC,
There is not a "Delete all" option but a couple of things you can do.
As I understand it you want to remove the content from the deleted items, is that correct?
Settings -> Mail -> email account -> Advancted -> Deleted Messages -> Remove and the choices are never, after 1 day, after 1 week or after 1 month.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

Check for 'others' in iTunes against your iPhone.
Restore from a previous backup to reclaim some of it.
Still want more, Restore in iTunes, setup as New.

  • When using Time Machine, if I delete items from my computer, will they still be backed up to access later on my external hard drive? In other words, when time machine backs up again, will it delete the files from the back up?

When using Time Machine, if I delete items from my computer, will they still be backed up to access later on my external hard drive?
In other words, when time machine backs up again, will it delete the files from the back up that I have deleted from my computer?

No, I do not believe so. Time Machine would keep all those now-deleted files in previous backups, and as time goes by those backups might be deleted if you needed room, but it would still keep one backup from each day in last month, as well as one from each week forever, as long as you don't start running out of room, then just the oldest would be deleted to make room if needed.
I use a backup drive about double the size of my drive to be backed up, so I would guess it will never get to the point where deleted files being replaced by new ones being backed fill up that drive to the point where backups actually have to get deleted.

I have 81,934 items in my trash. Having trouble deleting it. Is it using valuable space?

At first I didn't realize how long it would take to delete 81k items, so when I first tried months ago I had assumed it didn't work-because it didn't seem to be moving.  The setting was set to "secure delete".   I left the trash to delete securely for 12 hours and it is finally empty.  Embarrassing :-(  THANKS!!
