Deleting a remote file

Hi !,
I have to delete a file in a remote FTP server and I'm using the
sendServer ("DELE" + file);
command but my problem is that I'd like to know If the file has been really deleted or if any problem has occurred
How can I do it ??
Thanks!
TLLI

You should get a message back from the server just as you do with an interactive client.
You could try doing an ls of the file to confirm it is no longer there.

During any "Put" operation I am
usually getting a failure for some or all the files I am
trying to upload.
When this happens the progress bar zips through, regenerates
and then progresses very slowly on the same file. The log records
the error "
The file "documentname.html" was skipped because the old remote
file could not be deleted".
Often I can immediately try again and it works. Sometimes I
have to retry several times.
This started suddenly (no system changes that I am aware of)
during the fall (2007). It's happening on ftp accounts for several
hosting providers so the common element seems to be DW CS3.
Any thoughts, folks?

I have had these issues before they just solved themselves
eventually. Why this happends? I have no idea.
Try another FTP program or use the hosting services Control
Panel to remove the file. Or ask hosting service to do it.

• DFSR - Deleted files not being deleted on remote servers

Hi All,
I have a central file server replicating its data to 2 remote files servers with read only shares.
When a file is deleted on the central server, the files are not being deleted on the remote servers. New files on the central server are replicating fine.
Why is this and how do I fix it?
Thanks Christoph

Hi Christoph,
Can you provide "delete" permission on remote share and see if it works?
Thanks,

• Error message: file was skipped because the old remote file could not be deleted.. Later it will up

Error message: file was skipped because the old remote file could not be deleted.. Later it will upload after i try a few more times. Not at my size quota for website (I have lots of room) , have toggled Passive FTP ...keeps happening. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks! I am using DW CS5 on Windows 7 platform. This does not happen when I upload otherwise on my computer - only when using DW.
It also only happens with the html files - it does not happen with my jpeg files

Do you have notes in your site?  DW's local and remote site synching might be off.   Try clearing your cache.

• FTP help! - "skipped because the old remote file could not be deleted."

I have been using Dreamweaver to administer a dedicated
server for a large client running 6 copies of Contribute and an ASP
CMS on the same server. For some reason, out of the blue with no
changes on the server side or on my side, Dreamweaver refused to
put files (any type of file) to the server. Permissions haven't
changed on the box, all is as it was. Here's a copy of the end of
the FTP Log. The file default_new.asp that it refers to has never
existed on the server before now, but the same is happening for all
files (pre-existing or otherwise). Any help would be appreciated...

file could not be deleted.

Apparently you get this because the remote disk you are
trying to write to is full. Try deleting some files on the server
and do it again. Otherwise, if it's a hosted account, contact your
host and ask them to check available disk space on your server.
This was exactly my problem. Logged on to the remote machine
using RDC and cleaned out some of the clients archive files.

• How do I enable opening firefox from two different computers sharing the same home directory without having to delete a lock file (linux).

I just don't want to have to delete a lock file - which has a purpose - in order to use firefox simultaneously from two locations on the network - where the home directory, i.e. .mozilla directory - is located

You need to use two separate profiles if you want to have two Firefox instances open at the same time.

• Delete a .csv file from desktop system

Hi All,
My requirement is to read the .csv file from the desktop system having the shared folder and delete the file after read successfully.
Here I can read the .csv file from the location using the function RFC_REMOTE_FILE and updated the content into internal table.
But I cant delete the file from the presentation server ( Desktop system).
Can anyone tell me how to delete the .csv file from the desktop system on different location.

Hi Rob,
Thanks. I solved this problem myself.
The solution to delete the file from remote system is
concatenate 'DEL' i_filename i_dirname into v_bkfile separated by space .
call function 'RFC_REMOTE_EXEC'
      destination  c_dest
      exporting
        command               = v_bkfile
      exceptions
        system_failure        = 1  MESSAGE v_ermsg
        communication_failure = 2  MESSAGE v_ermsg.

• Is there a way to check if I have either deleted a necessary file or...

Firstly, let me apologize for this rather long post. I just want to make sure I give as much detail in order to get the problem really solved...
I have a MacBook Pro 2GHz Intel Core Duo with 512 MB of ram. I am running OS 10.4.10 and don't have the means to either upgrade the OS, increase ram or even backup and reinstall (I am in a remote part of the South Pac. Islands, working as a relief worker, without much more than a dish to connect to the net).
Now while I know that QuickTime has nothing to do with WMA files and that Flip4mac is the solution of record, allow me to pose my problem (because I can't get a straight answer on other forums whose only suggestion is to reinstall their software).
I have been using Flip4Mac QuickTime components successfully (to save radio streams) for over a year without a single problem with various versions of Quicktime. Presently, i use QuickTime version 7.6.0 and all was working fine until a few weeks ago. QuickTime works fine in every other way with the exception of playing my saved streams that contain WMA audio.
I believe I might have created the problem by either... ignorantly deleting files with a tool that allows me to examine the hard drive (including system files) in order to delete large ""unnecessary"" files... or even possibly, it occurred when questionable-content was auto-opened via QuickTime (which incidentally had caused the system to crash requiring a hard keyboard shutdown and restart). The problem occurred soon thereafter.
i have un-installed and re-installed QuickTime, Flip4Mac and even Windows Media Player for Mac several times with no change. i also ran several virus / disk scans (VirusBarrier, ClamXAV, MacScan, as well as TechTool, Mac HelpMate and MainMenu) also with no change.
The dialog box that pops up when I attempt to open ANY past saved QuickTime files basically says, QuickTime Player is 'missing a component.' This window doesn't always popup. Also the player will advance the minutes and seconds without playing a sound. Further any app that relies on WMA files also crashes, quits or just doesn't work. Such as WMA to MP3 converters. I even have problems with sounds / music from a couple of MacGames that I own (Luxor & Hidden Relics) as these games may rely on WMA to function (this may or may not be related).
My question is... is there a way to check if I have deleted a necessary codec, system file, pref. file, receipt, etc. that is crucial to using WMA?
Or even is there a way to check if some erroneous file has been added to my system (such as a DRM plugin) that is preventing the playing of my saved streams?
Once again, as I mentioned above, I am unable to backup and reinstall OSX and am at the end of my rope. The only thing that is left for me to say is.... Heeeellllppp!

Or copy the URL and paste it into free Notes page.

• FTP problem - won't upload because no old remote file

I've used Dreamweaver for years and never run into this, but
I recently installed Dreamweaver MX on a new laptop and keep having
this problem. Sometimes - not always - when I create a new page or
introduce a new graphic on an existing page, the new item will not
upload. The error message I get is:
----The file "filename" was skipped because the old remote
file could not be deleted.---
Of course the old file can't be deleted - there isn't one.
Anyone ever run into this? Is there some setting I need to
change? Do I have to reinstall? I should add that Check-In,
Check-Out IS enabled because I have Contribute users using this
site.

here's an odd possible that may or may not apply-
I use linux/apache hosts, and one of them is set up with the
standard top
level private directory, and the site files go into the
"public_html"
folder. there is also a symbolic link (alias) named "www"
that is linked to
the public_html folder.
If i put www into the host directory line of the site
definition, i could
upload files, but not overwrite or delete them. Putting the
actual folder
name instead of the symbolic link in, public_html , solved
this.

• Bt has deleted my cloud files!

About 3 weeks ago I changed the user name on my bt profile page, as it was in my wife's maiden name. I think this is the issue but says not. But since then, initially I got an error 500 code, but now just says can not authenticate account when I try to log into the cloud.
But to make matters worse I have just logged into my bt to see on the cloud section a message that says my files where deleted on the 05/10/2913!
This has been going on for nearly 3 weeks now, despite phoning the Indian call centered every couple of days, and about 4 times some gas remote connected to my PC.
And to cap it all my home phone line stopped working 2 days ago, but broadband is still working.
I really hope they have not deleted my cloud files!

• Bridge Deleting PSD work files

I know this is very odd, but Bridge is deleting my work files under Lion.
I'm running the latest PS12.0.4 and Lion 10.7.1 on a 9 month old iMac. I have all my files are stored on a remote NAS. Only the Adobe applications and the OS are local.
In a working directory on NAS I have hundreds of DNG files created by the import process.
I rate some of them using Apple+2 as two star files using Bridge.
I open a two star file in ACR, and then chain in to Photoshop. I make my edits and save as PSD. The save process creates a PSD with the same name as the DNG and also assigns the two stars.
I flip to Bridge and there is the new PSD alongside the original DNG
I select the PSD and hit Apple+5 to give it 5 stars.
And the file disappears.
It's not in the folder according to finder. It's not in the trash. A system wide search can find no reference to the file.
I go back in to Photoshop and select open recent ...PSD, and I get a "file not found" message.
I can select any file and mark it as 5 stars along is it's not the newly created PSD.
I have no idea what is going on. Anyone else seen anything like this? How do I get Adobe's attention without paying them $$$$ to complain they're destroying my work?
Thanks
Andy

You wouldn't happen to be working across the network, would you?
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
See:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

• 876948422.js is a remote file and cannot be edited. [close] looks like a link.

I need a Dreamweaver CS4 Sharpshooter's help:
I'm having an issue on the last two site files I have opened and it driving my crazy. I'm getting the yellow hilighted warning message. I open a file and where it states Source Code I get a numbers for example: 876948422.js then in the yellow highlighted it states: 876948422.js is a remote file and cannot be edited. [close] and this close looks like a clickable link.
I seen this on the first file last Friday and I freaked out because I have heard of bandits stealing traffic and comissions from affiliates and I though someone hi-jacked my page and was stealing my stuff because I have gotten zero results from all my sites with this style email Opin page while Google tracking software has been showing atleast a little activity on these sites.
So every web site that used that email Opin page I completely deleted. I even deleted them from my testing server on my local machine. I don't know if there is any software out there that can clean my machine of this kind of intruduer if that is what it is.
Now I just opened another file which I took into Dreamweaver. I copied all the code and did a paste and this file has the js file as well. What is going on here..... help!!!
It has the same file type with warning has someone completely taken over my machine through Dreamweaver or...

• IWeb published page length short on remote files??

I have multiple domains I publish to a folder. Then I upload with cyberduck. Recently I have uploaded a website generated in iWeb 08 and when I view online the page length is short both in safari and firefox. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
I have gone back into iWeb and verified the content height, and additionally verified the tags by viewing them in adobe dreamweaver and the remote files are tagged correctly.
Just to be sure I downloaded the page and the remote files to my desktop, and they view at the correct length.
Again when I view the pages online they are short meaning I can not scroll to the bottom as the page ends prematurely. There is more content just can not scroll down that far, additionally the scroll bar stops correctly (at the incorrect length).
Thank You in advance -
Herb

I replied only to Ethmoid's response not to the entire thread, as I should have. My bad.
Here's my reply to your replies:
I uploaded the folder Robert Wells Fine Prints, which contained both the index.html file and the Robert Wells Fine Prints folder created by iWeb when I published. In Cyberduck, I uploaded them to the public_html on Small Oranges servers.
I uploaded the whole RWFP folder created by iWeb all at one time.
Ethmoid asked: "How did you manage to get a php file when iWeb does not support this? If you have created your site in iWeb, you welcome page should be Welcome.html and nothing like php."
I have no idea how I did this, but it looks like I screwed it up pretty good. Could it have anything to do with the fact that at some point in this process (not sure when) I changed the site's name. Originally, I was going to call it Robert's Fine Art Prints, but that got changed to Robert Wells Fine Prints. Though I have no idea if this has anything to do with my current problem.
Things have gotten worse. Thinking I did something wrong & could fix the problem by re-uploading, I deleted the files from the server and tried again. Now, most of the image files are failing to upload in Cyberduck.
Chuck Usher asked "When you publish to a folder I believe you get a folder and a separate index.html file. did you up load both and address the index file? What is the site address? "
Yes, you get an index.html and a folder of supporting documents. I uploaded both at the same time. The address is supposed to be robertwellsfineprints.com but it doesn't work.
Thoughts appreciated.
Robert

• "Delete Selected Track Files" Applescript script fails for iTunes 7

The Delete Selected Track Files script, which is found on the Apple site http://www.apple.com/applescript/itunes/, fails with a error message of "iTunes got an error: file track id 42130 of user playlist id 30791 of source id 40 doesn't understand the delete message." The message is the same regardless of which song(s) I try to delete. Does anyone know how to update the script or know of a workaround?

Found my mistake. I was testing the script by playing a track from a shared iTunes library across my local net. As soon as I played a track residing on the local machine itself the script worked in iTunes 8.0 as it worked before on iTunes 7.x
Apparently I'll need to code for the case of a shared track in order to correctly resolve the alias to the file track on the remote machine.
Thanks Niel!

• Adobe XMP Files not deleted with Raw Files in ACR

I am using Photoshop CS3 on a Windows XP platform. My camera raw files are mostly kept on a Windows 2003 file server, which has a gigabit connection to my workstation. However, I have the same problems when using PS CS3 on my Windows XP laptop.
I take many hundreds of 'technical' photographs using an Olympus E1 and Canon G9 cameras. I usually bracket the exposures on the E1, specially when photographing white painted yachts, and then rate and select the images that I want in ACR 4.1.1. Unwanted images are deleted at this time.
The problem I am having is that the associated *.xmp files are not always deleted with the camera raw files, with the result that I now have literally thousands of these 'orphaned' files cluttering up the server. The only options I have are to delete the files manually, which is a pain, or to leave them on the server, wasting unnecessary space.
I have the same issue with Canon and Nikon raw files, so this problem is not specific to Olympus files.
This is a long standing problem, and I would be grateful if anyone has any answers?
If any Adobe programmers are watching, it would be handy if you could provide a simple utility to delete orphaned *.xmp files, or at least compress them into some kind of archive.
Thanks,
Nigel.
As far as Photoshop and ACR go, ALL raw files are treated as read-only.
Your original raw files remain untouched, no matter what you do to them.
Any adjustments you make to a raw file are kept only as metadata (flags, if you will) in that XMP side-car file. Every time you want to re-open that raw image file, ACR will reach for the XMP file and apply the adjustments automatically, transparently.
That is not quite correct. Camera RAW files can be permanently deleted from within Adobe Camera Raw. The problem with ACR 4.1 to 4.4 4 was that the XMP files were left behind. This now seems to have been rectified in the latest version (ACR 4.5).
Thank you Adobe!
