Deleting iPhone Emails

Could someone tell me if there is an easier way to delete sent and old emails rather than putting them all in the trash then going to trash and selecting each one to delete one by one? Is there a way to do a select all then delete?

Why bother emptying the trash? Can't you just set the trash to autodelete every week or month or whatever the settings are?
I use only imap accounts so I never bother emptying the trash -- I do that from my computer as necessary. But I think the pop accounts have an age setting for the trash.

  • Deleting iphone email does not delete from computer

I am sure I must be missing something simple here....When I delete email from my iphone, it does not delete from my computer (either remotely or by syncing). So when I delete a bunch of emails, the very next time I open iphone email, it retrieves the very same emails just deleted....a viscious cycle. Can anyone assist with what must be a simple setting issue? Thank you.

    Nathan C:
    Thank you for your help.
When .Mac is configured using the .Mac option on the
iPhone it is always configured as IMAP. For that
account, on your computer are you checking the
messages via POP3, and on your computer, which
program are you using to check those messages?
.MAC Account - Home Computer: Under Mail/Preferences/Accounts it lists the Comcast account (from our ISP) as a POP and the .Mac account as ".Mac". I access mail thru Mac Mail Application and sometimes thru .mac thru the internet. Update on this account- I cleared the inbox and tried another test. Now it seems to be working. I delete a message from iphone and it will automatically delete from my home computer Mail App. and eventually it will be deleted from the .mac server when accessed thru the internet (these take much longer however). In any event it seem this account works now.
    Work Account:
As for your work account, when looking at the
settings, it should say POP3, IMAP and Exchange at
the top. The button that is "pushed" is the one that
account is using. The outgoing server should
probably be smtp.comcast.net not smpt. Is that
account using IMAP, POP3, or Exchange?
I know these three options were there when the IT person set it up but now when I access this account in my iphone it does not tell me what was selected (IMAP,POP, or Exchange) under account information??? It seems to appear only when setting up a new account. Am I missing something?
Also that was a typo. Outgoing server is listed as "smtp.comcast.net"
So to give you as much info as I have:
Incoming Mail Server is "Mail.(officeservername).com" and Outgoing is "smtp.comcast.net". (Using my Comcast ISP was the only way the IT person could get the email access from Iphone to work). And to calrify what is happening on the iphone:
1.Email is accessed no problem from iphone, - downloading all new message from my work outlook works fine.
2.When I delete messages on my iphone, however, it does not delete on my office computer which is on a server network. (Visa Versa does work - when I delete a message on my computer it will delete it on my iphone.
3.NOTE : Contrary to what I posted earlier my iphone now is NOT "RELOADING" messages just deleted from Iphone but which remain on my office computer. This means half the problem is solved.
    4. THE ONLY THING LEFT TO FIGURE OUT IS HOW DO I CONFIGURE SO WHEN I DELETE A MESSAGE ON MY IPHONE I AM DELETING ALSO FROM MY Computer at work?
(BTW in the above description I am referring to all wireless operation...not when syncing with iphone)
Any final helpful thoughts? Thanks again.

  • Delete iPhone emails from iMac. & email read receipts.

    Question 1:
    I have three e-mail accounts:
    @btinternet.com
    @me.com
    @royalherbert.co.uk (pop.1and1.co.uk)eceiving
I am happy receiving incoming emails to my iMail account on both my iMac and my iPhone 4S.
What is really annoying is having to delete emails from both units individually.
Am I missing a way that I can delete emails on my computer so that it syncs with my iPhone to automaticly delete the emails rather than having to do it twice?
    Question 2:
I used to be happy with microsofts facility to request 'read mail receipts'.
Can this be done on iMail as and when required without the need to set up a rule that applies to all emails?

    Thank you Winston Churchill,
Yes, I have migrated my @.me account to iCloud, but it's the other two accounts I use all the time.
The @.me account seems to be something that almost set itself up once I switched to Apple.
I do use it for sending emails from my iPhone 4S, but thats about all.
I will enquire if my servers BT and 1and1 can offer me an IMAP alternative if you think this will solve the problem.
The 'Read Mail Receipt' I mentioned is a very useful Microsoft Outlook facilitiy whereby I could request my individual outgoing emails to send me a report when the email had been received and opened.
Looking at iMail, it seems I can set this up as a 'rule', but it will action this for every single email I send, and I don't want that.
Once again, thanks for your help

  • Deleting iPHONE Emails previously read on a PC

    Hello All,
Usually I read my emails on a PC and occasionally on the iPHONE. Recently I saw many emails on the phone and decided to delete them all since they had been previously read on the PC. I do not see how to do this. Is there a way?
    Thanks, Bob

Looking at the manual would be a good start. But you can swipe your finger from left to right on an entry and a Delete button will appear. Or you can tap the Edit button and check off a bunch to delete.

Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.

There is no delete all option, unless you want to remove the email account, but I doubt that is what you are seeking.

  • IPhone deletes MobileMe email on its own

I first noticed the problem last week. I open up Mail on my iPhone, it checks Mobile Me for new messages, they start to download and I saw a number of emails fleetingly appear before my eyes and immediately thereafter vanish without a trace. Today it had to be the most important email I was waiting for didn't it? And it was. I saw it briefly, again for all of a second, and then it was gone forever.
No trace of the emails to be found in Trash or Junk. Gone.
I found another, closed thread relating to Yahoo Mail and people who encountered this error. But this was Apple's Mobile Me service. I've even checked my mail via me.com, no luck. It's like the message never existed but I know it did.
Ideas? Help? And why did it bypass the trash for goodness' sake? If it had dumped it there because of some bug I could have rescued it. But to wipe it totally? Man, that's one nasty bug.

No. I was accessing my me.com email nowhere else at the times this happened, as it has happened again since my original post above. I have switched off email on my iPhone until this is resolved, I can't afford to have emails going like that.
And bear in mind, whether you access elsewhere or not is somewhat irrelevant when talking about MobileMe accounts as they are supposed to keep in sync, meaning if I download an email to my MB Pro it will appear in my inbox on iPhone or iMac as well. Unless of course you move or delete the email, which I didn't.
Before switching off email on my iPhone as an emergency response I tried changing the settings to confirm deletions before going ahead. That was completely ignored by the iPhone, which went ahead and deleted another email all on its own thereafter.
I have never had the problems with emails other have had before now. Could an installed third-party app impact on the Mail app in any way at all? I have installed a few apps along the way but was thinking, could something installed in the past fortnight, say, be a cause?

How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

  • My iPhone 4s is retaining all emails in its inbox yet I am deleting them in Outlook. How do I get it to sync with my outlook account and delete the emails?

My iphone 4s is retaining all of my  emails in it's inbox. I have been deleting emails in outlook but they are not deleting on the iphone. How do I set up my iphone so it is a secondary account and syncs with outlook on my Mac?

I had that problem and seemed to have solved it by deleting my email accounts and then reinstalling.  I think there was a HARD reset involved also, but since it was just after I got my new 4S (6 weeks ago), I'm not sure about the reset.

  • Is there a way to delete all email messages from inbox without checking each one at a time on my iphone 4?

Whenever I want to delete messages in the inbox on my iphone 4, using v4.2.8, I have to manually check each one and then delete them the checked ones as a group. Is there a way to select all and delete them at one time? I love the phone and it is a little complaint, but I often get 50-60 work related messages which I scan then delete because the originals are on my work computer. Thanks.

Also, the iPhone is not a standalone device and obviously doesn't have a full blown mail client... it's an adjunct to your computer.  If you want to delete a lot of emails, do it on your computer.  You could also log into your webmail using a browser on your iPhone and do it from there.
You have a point, but you're just helping exposing the misery a little more:  I actually DO delete the emails in WebMail, very easily.  The problem is the sorry state of the Apple email client, that does not replicate those actions on the device, so I have to delete the messages TWICE--once on my computer, with a couple of clicks, and then on my iPhone, with a couple (hundreds) finger gestures.
As to your point that the iPhone is not a standalone device:  that's nonsense.  The iPhone does a lot of things that users thought IMPOSSIBLE just 10 years ago.  Are you saying that the addition of a simple feature like a "Delete All Messages" button is too much for a mobile device?  Then what to say about Siri, a complex-beyond-our-imagination system that incorporates voice recognition, AI, searching and other hard-to-grasp technologies, all at our fingertips?

  • How can I change the settings so when I delete an email from my iPhone it will also delete from my iPad.....very sick of deleting the same emails two times

How can I change the settings wit mail so that when I delete my Verizon email from my iPhone it will also delete from my iPad too.... Seems like I shouldn't have to delete my email in three places...iPhone ..iPad ...and desktop

Don't know which email host you are using, but if this is a POP account, you can't do it. If IMAP, then deleting one email should delete it on all other devices.

  • How do I get my iPad and IPhone synced where if I delete an email off one it is deleted off the other device?

How do I get my iPad and IPhone synced where if I delete an email off one it is deleted off the other device? I can get all the Apps and music from one to the other but why won't the emails I delete off one not delete off the other? Is there anyway where I can make this happen?

As James says, make sure that you are using the IMAP servers for your email. You will need to check the help pages for your email provider to get the correct settings in all your devices. POP really doesn't fit the needs of todays mutiple access, always on internet, so you are better off moving to IMAP.
