Deleting old projects in Xcode/Organizing projects

Any information or guidence is appriciated on the following.
1.) How do I delete old projects in Xcode? I have many old projects that I do not want taking up space.
2.) Is there any tutorial or reference that I could look at to improve my knowledge on....
a.) Saving Projects to certain locations (Advantages/Disadvantages)
b.) How do organize my projects with in Xcode more efficiently?
thanks

Delete your old projects by moving the folders containing the project's files to the Trash.
Save your projects wherever you want. You said you have many old projects, which implies you've been using Xcode for a while. Did the location where you saved your old projects cause you any problems? If not, keep saving your new projects where you saved the old projects.

  • How do I delete old iDVD projects from my hard drive?

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this but as I have messed up things in iPhoto before by deleting the wrong files which caused lots of problems when trying to open the application, so I just want to be sure before doing anything bad . I am still trying to get my head round where iDVD and iMovie keep all the files.
I want to reclaim some space on my external hard drive. I have 3 iDVD projects and their related iMovie movies that I no longer need to do any more to. I have made disc images of each and burnt some DVD's of these projects therefore I don't think they need to remain on the computer. Can I delete the projects by dragging them to the trash from the folder I created to store them and then do the same with the associated iMovie projects? Will this leave the disc images intact in case I needed to burn further discs from them? Will this leave any confused links in iDVD that will affect the application. I also have the burnt dvds as a further back up so these projects are now just taking up space.

Yes, you are on the right track here. Disk Images are entirely independent of any other files. You can trash any of your iDVD/iMovie project files and it will not affect your disk images.
When I create disk images I give them very distinct names ... like Bob's Video Disk Image ... so it is easy to distinguish them and I always store them in a Disk Image folder ... just to cover my youknowwhat

  • Manual creation of Project Site for a project is taking old project site template.

    Dear All,
I have modified the project site and save it as a template to associate it with an EPT so that the modification will reflect in new project sites.
For existing projects, I am deleting the old project sites (after taking backup) and recreating so that new modifications will be there for existing projects and I am able to do so.
But, for 1 of the project, when I have deleted the project site and recreated, still it is taking the old template (i.e. new modifications has not been seen).
Kindly advice in some areas so that I can jump in and around and can find out a solution so that the project site will take modified project template.
Example to get the issue in an easy way:
    ProjectA:
    Project Site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA
    Issue List:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3]
Have saved 1 project site as a template and associated with an EPT with the following changes:
Column: Category [data type as Choice: Choice1, Choice2, Choice3]
Then, deleted the project site: http://epm/pwa/ProjectA and recreated.
So, it should take the modifications in the project site.
But, it is showing as Column: Category [data type as Choice: Cat1, Cat2, Cat3].

    Dear Guillaume,
    Thanks for your response.
    Please seem my comments inline:
Which Project Server version do you use?
    PS 2010
It is working well and as expected for all projects except for 1 specific project?
Yes. It is working well for other projects except 1 project.
    Has this project something particular?
Nope. It is similar as other projects.
How do you proceed to create the new project site? Do you go to the site actions, then new site and pick up your new template?
First I have modified 1 of the project site and saved that site as a template.
Then, I have deleted the existing project site (from Project Sites under Operational Policies) and recreated so that project site will gets created from the new template. But, it's not happening.

  • I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • Can't delete a project

I am having difficulty deleting a project that has no photos in it. When I try to delete it, I get the message:
"This operation will delete the project “” and all of its contents from your library.
Managed master files stored in the Aperture Library will be moved to the Trash.
Referenced master files may be used by another project, library, or application. They will remain in their current locations unless you choose to move them to the Trash.
All versions, albums, adjustments, and metadata will be permanently removed from your library. This operation cannot be undone."
Now, I have run into this before where I didn't realize that I had photos from a given project in the trash, but this isn't the case in this instance. I have tried to search using every criteria that I know, and nothing seems to work. How do I find the hidden photos that are obviously tied to that project?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mac

Yeah, I know. I initially thought that some images might not have showed up in a search because they were either unrated, or rejected. I narrowed the search down to even include those items. Still nothing showed up. I didn't even have any photos in my rejected bin.
Again, not really a big deal. It's over with. This has only happened once where I couldn't figure out where the images were. In other times, I have been able to figure it out, by checking for unrated, and/or rejected images.
On another note, can I ask you a few other questions?
    1. I can never remember how to do this. Let's say you want to delete one specific keyword from a group of images, but those images also contain other keywords that you would like to keep associated with those images. I can never remember how to do this.
    2. Is it possible to change the location of keywords in an upward direction once they have been embedded beneath other keywords? For example, you might have the keyword, New York for example. Then later you created the keyword, Madison Square Garden, and moved it into the keyword New York. I know that you can create a hierarchy in a downward direction, but there doesn't seem to be a way to move those keywords up again should you so choose. I know this is probably a rare issue, and that I am probably going about organizing my keywords in the wrong way. If there is a way to to what I am asking, do you know what it is? If there isn't, would you have any advice on how to go about creating, storing and organizing keywords?
On a related topic, I used to use keywords very freely. I know that you can use them however, and for whatever you like, but after a while, it tends to be overkill. Are there other areas that you like to store metadata that takes the place of keywords? For example, could you use the Headline, Category, Caption, Editorial Update, Sub Location, or any other tag for similar purposes? Is that what those tags are for in your opinion?
I've been writing a lot of content into the Editorial Update tag as a means to give some dialogue as to what the project/event was all about so that I will remember what I did in years to come. I don't know if this is such a good idea though, because it seems to affect my search ability. So many words exist in my Editorial Update, that when I do a search for something specific, it is hard to narrow it down to what I am really looking for.
I know this is a lot to ask. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers, and Happy New Year.

  • Error importing old project into Premiere Elements 11

Trying to import old project backup - that I made a couple of years ago.  When importing the Project file, I get the error
"The selected file cannot be linked because it's type (video) does not match the original files type (audio and video)."
I try and select the file, but it then gives the error "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video).
If I skip the ones that give me the error, I get an incomplete edit - with lots of bits missing.
HELP!!!  I need to sort this asap......for a client.
    Thanks

    filippinno
Here is my plan, either a start to better or a dud. We are going to start small to get a foothold in this.
My major puzzlement is you telling me that you are replacing video with video and getting the message
The selected file cannot be linked because its type (audio and video) does not match the original file's type (video)
.The only time I have ever seen that message is when someone is trying to replace still with video or video with still.
At this moment, where are the source media that went into the original Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project? Let us say, all in Documents in a folder named Special - all have their original names. Given that you are 100% that they are the ones that went into this project...the type (video or still) and file name and file extension.
I am not sure if it matters for this test whether or not you are using Premiere Elements 11 or 9.0/9.0.1, I just want to find out what is going on with your source media.
    (a) Open the project using Skip All if you are hit with a bunch of "Where is....?" messages which I assume you will be.
    (b) Go to the Timeline, pick a file with the colorful Media Offline display, write down the file name from its title band.
Right click that file on the Timeline and select Find in Media.
From Organize Media, delete the Media Offline thumbnail that was pointed out to you clicking Reveal in Media.
Go back to the Timeline and this same file, right click it and this time select Reveal in Project. That should take you to Project. Delete the file there that Reveal in Project points you to. That will also delete is counterpart on the Timeline. All traces of that particular Media Offline file are now gone in the project.
In that project, go to Get Media/Files and Folders and browse to and select the original file (with the exact same file name and kind that you just deleted from the project) that you have saved back in that Special Folder in Documents.
Drag that file from Organize Media or Project to the Timeline in the space made available by your deletion of it as an Media Offline thumbnail.
Does that work to replace that particular file. Is it the file that you had there originally? Keep in mind that we are identifying this file by name in each step and need a match of file name from start to end.
If this works for one, then we can plan around this basic finding. And, if this works we may revert back to Replace Footage. But, let us see what happens here first.
What is your estimate of how many of these Media Offline displays are there to be dealt with? How many of the media are in place on that Timeline and are no problem?
    Looking forward to the results.
    Thanks.

  • I want iLife 8 but not iMovie 8, can old projects open in iMovie 6?

I have seen the new iMovie 8 and the missing functions makes it totally useless to me. I am very disappointed with the dumbing down of iMovie with this new version but enough has been said by many others about that already. However, the new iPhoto link to .Mac gallery looks good, and likewise the new version of GarageBand so I would like to get iLife 8 just for those, without using iMovie 8. I want to carry on using iMovie 6 for my old and new projects. If I upgrade to iLife 8 can my old projects continue to be accessed by iMovie 6 if I go to the "previous version folder" and open the application from there? I do not want to risk anything going wrong with the old projects before I have completed them. I definitely am not interested in even starting anything in iMovie 8 as I use all of the lost functions when editing my movies.
When I bought my first Mac 4 years ago, it was the sophistication of the iLife application that came with the computer, and particularly iMovie, that most influenced my decision to switch...nothing to do with iPod halo effects or pretty white hardware. If I was making the same choice now, I would not be similarly impressed and influenced by the capabilities (or not) of iMovie 8.
I can kind of see why there might be a need for the YouTube link up and webcasting functions in iMovie 8 for some people, but I still think that the majority of people using iMovie want to make good looking and sounding movies to store on DVD's. I really hope that Apple give us a proper upgrade to iMove 6 HD and a separate application for all the other simplified stuff.

Thanks both of you. All of the earlier projects that I want to open are in iMovie 6 so it looks as if that will still work.
QuickTimeKirk, I don't think I was really ranting ( I did that a few days a go and my post was deleted, so fair game), but I was expressing an opinion that from what I have read, is shared by many on this forum, and on others. I am not saying that iMovie 8 is absolute rubbish, it will work well for lots of people and has some good functionality if you want to make quick, simple movies and upload them to the web, but I sincerely believe that it falls very short for the many of us who want to continue to be able to do what we had been able to before with the old version. Whenever Apple had previously given us an upgrade to an application it had added not taken away...at least not so drastically as with iMovie 8. To me, not being able to at least edit sound or use a timeline, or themes, just means I can't get the same quality of movie I could before, therefore it is useless to me. I am just expressing my disappointment that a product that I had previously been impressed enough with to switch from PC's because of, no longer holds the same appeal. And I am only talking about iMovie 8, not Apple products in general, or the rest of iLife. I just wanted increased functionality, not less with a new version, and V8 is probably going to work for lots of people, but not for me. And I am not alone in that.

  • Deleting duplicate projects.

Brand new to Aperture and relatively new to Mac.  Just installed Aperture and imported my 30,000 photos from I-photo.  I have numerous duplicate projects because my initial uploads to I-photo came from old PC hard drives, I-phones, cameras that had already been uploaded to the old hard drives, etc.  With the duplicate Aperture projects that I now have, am I now safe to delete one of the projects without affecting the other duplicate project, and if so, will this also entirely remove the files from the hard drive?  Thanks.

Deleting one project shouldn't affect other projects, as each has its own master photos.  If you delete the project, AND the photos are managed (i.e. in the Aperture library), then it should remove the files from the HD.
Be SURE you have a backup.  I'd recommend an up-to-date vault before you go about doing anything, so you can be sure.

  • I just opened an "old" project in a newer version of iPhoto and the pages in the book doubled in number with the seam in the middle of each page.  Suggestions?

I just opened an "old" project in a newer version of iPhoto and the pages in the book doubled in number with the seam in the middle of each page.  Suggestions?

    Start with Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If that doesn't help continue with:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

I exit out and then I can get to other saved idvd projects. All I want is for this old project to be gone. I cant drag this idvd theme into trash or delete it. I want to be able to click on idvd icon and see existing projects instead of going through above hassle. txs

  • Old Projects Will Not Open

I updated my idvd when I installed iLife and now I cannot open the projects I created in the earlier version. Whenever I attempt to open them I receive the following error message:
    Unsupported File Type: Unknown Format
    Mac HD/Users/Jen/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/iDVD 4/20TransparentBlack.theme/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Background.tif
Any ideas how I can access my old projects so I can edit them?

I looked at the referenced file and it's just a background image that says "Drag a photo or movie here". It's hard to see how that can produce what you are seeing.
You probably should try the old 'fix' to see if it helps.
Quit iDVD, then delete the iDVD plist file (preference file) com.apple.iDVD.plist
    Restart iDVD
    Give it a try.

  • How to open old projects after updating FCPX

My old version of FCPX was not that old, but I recently updated it to 10.1.2 and it now has the libraries rather than events. After I clicked up update projects and events it has brought my old events into the libraries viewer, but I do not see any of my old projects. I was just wondering/hoping that I can still access all my old projects and where I need to go to import them back in. Many thanks for any help or advice.

No the projects were in the bottom right of fcpx and the events were in the top left. Yes I see now each of my hard drives is listed under 'libraries" and has all the events and import contents listed by name and then each one has a folder "updated projects" with what seems like all of my projects. So is there no way to associate the events and projects back together or at least under the same tab? Anyways, thanks for helping me find my projects, just seems like more of a hassle to get there: hard drive > Updated Projects > Project - rather than just pulling up the projects. I guess it's something to get used to. Is there any alternate way of organizing it or is this just the set standard now? Thanks again

  • CS4: old projects with subtitles crash

    I have some CS2 projects...
No problems if opened with CS3.
Very BIG problem with CS4 (updated).. The old projects are opened with no problem until I click to active the subtitle track.. then CS4 CRASH.
I have done all these test:
    - "Save as.." the CS2 project opened with CS4.
    - "Save as.." the CS2 project opened with CS3 and then with CS4.
    - Duplicate/remove/add new subtitle track, saving with CS2 and then opened with CS4.
    - Delete any temp file/folder.
    - Praying in any religion.
c There is no way to use old subtitles with CS4??

That is very sage advice and holds true for PrPro, as well. Though there is good version compatibility, going from older to newer, the process of using older Projects in newer versions of the software can be hazardous, at best.
Every now and then, we "inherit" Projects from older versions, and it can be like walking through a minefield. Sometimes you make it to the other side, but sometimes you don't. Over the years, I've tried to keep an old copy of each Adobe program (my main set of programs) on a machine*. Sometimes, it's just for an old, familiar interface for those RUSH Projects that clients hit you with, but especially with Video, it's for backward compatibility. I realize that it is not possible in everyone's case, but it is a good safety net.
    Hunt
    * I still have a copy of PS 4, because it did one thing better, than the versions to follow. About once per year, a particular client has a Project, that requires this ancient program. My biggest problem is trying to remember how its interface works, since I've been on newer versions for more than a decade.

  • I tried to import a video into iMovie. Its says their is not enough space on the destination disk. I deleted many projects, and events. Nothing changed. What files do I delete and how?

I tried to import a video into iMovie. Its says their is not enough space on the destination disk. I deleted many projects, and events. Nothing changed. What files do I delete and how?

Hard drive full or near full:
You are going to have to delete, move or archive your data to regain hard drive space.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Uninstall apps that you no longer use. If the app has a dedicated uninstaller, use it to completely uninstall the app. If the app has no uninstaller, then just drag it to the OS X Trash icon  and empty the Trash.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its thing initially, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run all of the processes in the tabs. Let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be moved, also, to the external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
You may have to Purchase an external FireWire or Thunderbolt hard drive to move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • What to do with old projects?

    Hello all,
I am unsure of how to ask my question, so I can't "RTFM." I wish I could... So here is the scenario.
I have a lot of weddings that I am done with that are just hanging out in the project pane. I want to get them out of there so I can only have projects that I am actively working on. I just don't know how to get rid of them. When I delete the project, do I delete the images? How do I archive it so it's out of the way? Am I making any sense? How do you do this?
Thanks for helping me out. I am pretty good with the software, but this one simple task is alluding me. It's the easiest things that get you...
    Dave

If you delete a project from Aperture, if the files are managed, you are not only deleting any information you applied to those images, but you are also moving those images into the trash. So instead you'd be better off doing one of the following.
    You have a few options.
The simplest option would be to add your current Projects to Favorites and then just have Aperture show "Favorites Projects" in the pull down menu. When your done with that wedding un-favorite it.
Another simple way would be to create a folder and call it something like Old Weddings, Weddings Archive or whatever. Then just move those projects into that folder so you don't have to see them, only the single closed folder. You could also sub folder them into years for easier finding later.
If you really want the entire project out of Aperture you can do the following.
Export the project from Aperture to wherever you want to store it then you can delete the project from the library. If the images are managed they will move with the project. If the images are referenced then you have the option of including the images in the exported project.
