Deleting songs/files while in shuffle mode

hello.i have an 80gb ipod classic.i would like to know how to listen to songs in shuffle mode without playing the language files i have in shuffle mode.i know i can just un check them in my library but, there are thousands of them and would take quite awhile to uncheck them so,is there any way to uncheck them more quickly or any other way.i would appreciate any help.thanks

Hello joecomputer,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
One option is to enable the "Skip When Shuffling" option for each of these tracks in iTunes from under the Options tab of the *Get Info* window. Just highlight every track in your iTunes library by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking each track you wish to edit. When you have all of them selected, right->click on any one of them and choose *Get Info* from the pop up menu.
Or if the tracks are in sequence, simply click the first track in the sequence to highlight it, and then hold down the Shift key and click the last one in the sequence to highlight the first and last track and everything in between.
Then sync the updated changes to your iPod once they have been made. This option will tell your iPod to skip these tracks when you have it in Shuffle.

  • Song rating while in shuffle mode

is it possible to rate a song while I am listening to music on shuffle mode - I can't do it - seems that this would ve very common sensical? any ideas??

press the center select key a few times, until you see the track info with five dots underneath it. Roll your thumb back and forth over the wheel to add or remove Stars to give it a zero-five rating.

  • Deselecting albums or songs from participating in shuffle mode

I would like the ability to deselect certain albums or songs from participating in shuffle mode. I currently don't see a way to do that. How do you contact Apple with this type of a suggestion for a future release of iPod software?

There is no control provided and no way to do that.
Feedback links are reached by following the "Contact us" links you see at the bottom of most of the pages at the Apple site. Following down the various trees would eventually have brought you to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

  • Songs are playing on shuffle mode when they are not supposed to

I am using the latest version for Windows 10 and songs are playing on shuffle mode on their own. As a matter of fact, there is a song playing now that isn't even on the playlist that I am listening to

Was there some earlier version that you found worked better?-- maybe version 0.8.x-- or version 0.9.x?
    * Some earlier versions may have been easier to "debug" and force to work right for you? What has been your experience?

  • While in shuffle mode, a female voice suddenly cuts into a song. How do I stop this?

The last two times I've used my nano (ipod touch) during workouts, I've put it in shuffle mode. In the middle of the workout, a female voice cuts in announcing the song. Eventually, the voice starts reciting all of my playlists and randomly plays them, continuing to cut in and announce the titles. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? Thanks.

It sounds like you are using the headset with the controls on the wire. If this is the case, your sweat is getting into the controls and causing the center button to act as if you are pressing and holding it. Try using a different headset that does not have buttons on the wire.

  • ITunes deletes song files from my computer when I sync a device

When I sync a device in iTunes, it will sync fine and copy over all the files I need it to, but sometimes it will delete those files from my computer after it finishes copying them over. I'm not sure why this happens, I just know that I definitely have the songs on my machine before the sync, and afterwards, exclamation marks will begin appearing next to some of the items that were just synced over. It isn't a problem with the music files themselves, because it might only delete a few songs from an album that I imported all at the same time. It isn't just one device either, it's happened with all of my devices: an iPod Shuffle 2nd and 4th gen, Nano 5th and 6th gen, Classic, iTouch, and iPhone 3GS and 4GS. I've set iTunes to automatically copy music files into the iTunes media folder, and keep it organized, so I try navigating to the folder where the files would be, and the files are just not there anymore, or anywhere in the media folder; there's nothing in the reclycling bin either. The lower bit rate music file will be on the device still, but that's the only copy to be found anywhere. I have a fairly large iTunes library - about 90 GBs of music, and over 100 GBs of Movies and TV shows - but I'm not sure if that's part of the problem or not, though it does slow down iTunes a great deal when editing file info. I only know that it happens with music files, since I don't really sync over the other types of media as much. I believe that it might have something to do with the 'Convert higher bit-rate songs to ___ kbps' function, because it appears that only files that are higher bit rates than that setting will be deleted.
I've tried dealing with it for awhile, but it's getting to be a real pain to go find and re-import all of those CDs, so I'm hoping someone can help me with why it happens or at least a way to stop the deletions. Maybe someone else is having this same problem as well?

  • Can't delete song files

Running iTunes 9.1 on Windows XP Home Edition 2002, SP3. Almost every time I go to delete a song, it no longer gives me the option to delete the file so I'm not clearing any space on my drive. It does this less often for apps, but still does it. Is there an option I turned off by accident? Is this just a bug? Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem. I found many duplicates on my pc after moving files to an external hard drive. Some duplicates existed before this move but I did not worry about them. So, after a while my children were running out of space on their ipods so I used the "Show Duplicates" feature and deleted "the .....ing duplicates". Now my children tell me a great deal of their purchased music is missing and they are very annoyed. I told them that I thought Apple/iTunes spoke English and that Duplicate means just that, A Duplicate. This is extremely annoying. It seems like such a common sense fubar thing which is contrary to the awesome quality of the itunes/ipod in general. How do I get the songs we already *payed for* back on our computer? Or, are we screwed and in a spot where we must repurchase this music? Honestly, this is something I expect from microsoft, not Apple.

  • Can't permanently delete song file from external hard drive

    Hi Guys,
I want to be able to delete actual song files from my external hard drive as well as from my iTunes library in one easy, lazy step, via the iTunes window. I am not interested in finding and manually deleting the files through my external hard drive.
When I hit delete it only deletes the song from my iTunes library but not the actual destination music file aswell (from my external hard drive). I am aware this is because my external hard drive is not the original "Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" destination that the apple crew have designed and so I am not offered the option of sending the file to the recycle bin or "trashing it" when I hit the delete key (this permanently deletes the file).
I am also aware that I can find the music file destinations and delete them through the iTunes window by hitting "CTRL & R" or by the "show in windows explorer" command. I am not interested in these options either.
Basically, I have 20,000 songs to clean up and don't want to have to take my laptop with me to my grave...
I suspect there is some way of changing things around, possibly via some particular parameters to be set in the "Edit" > "Preferences" > "iTunes Music Folder Desintation" command area but still haven't been able to crack it.
Any help would be welcomed with open arms.
    Cheers.
    Labia.

    Camoracer,
You are right. Pardon me. The majority of the music that I was trying to delete off my external hard drive was in a separate folder (on the external hard drive), not in the directory specified in my iTunes preference settings.
    Problem solved!!!
This should also be a lesson to those who believe a one step delete function (from iTunes library and actual music file) is not possible when the music files are stored on an external hard drive (or other storage medium for that matter). I have read a host of other forums who say a one step delete function is not possible without additional software.. Perhaps these posts were from the authors of the software trying to make a $.
    Cheers.

  • HT2905 How do I delete songs on my IPod Shuffle and start again?

I noticed that I have the same songs on my IPod Shuffle 4th generation, how can I delete all from my IPOD and redownload again?

This procedure applies if you are loading songs manually, not using automatic syncing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Connect the shuffle and find it listed in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click on the small triangle to the left of the shuffle, to drop down its content list, indented below the shuffle.  Click on Music there.  To the right, the list of songs currently on the shuffle is shown.  Select the song you want to remove on the list and press DELETE on the keyboard.  You can do this with multiple songs selected.  If you want to remove ALL song from the shuffle, do a Select All (from the menu bar or right click).

  • Weighted/Prioritize Songs in Playlists for Shuffle Mode

Either automatically or by allowing us to assign values to songs within playlists indicating how often we want to hear the particular song or how many times we want the song to be replayed before it is removed from the shuffle queue for a user specified amount of time.
It doesn't have to be that complicated. It would be nice to have "Play this song less often" and "Play this song more often" options.
I would really like to see what other users have to think about this.

Smart Shuffle- power hour feature (play each song for a desired amount of time from a certain start point of the song) Example: Play my Top 40 playlist starting 1 minute into the song, only play the song for 2 minutes before crossfading to the next song. Example 2: Using the lyrics that are already built into Spotify: Play a song 30 seconds before the first chorus starts, Play the song for 1 minute then skip to the next song and do the same thing. This is a powerful feature and could be used as a virtual DJ like for clubs and parties or at a BBQ. Some people don't want to listen to a full 5minute song and are just happy with hearing 2 minutes of the 5 minute song.  - allow a toggle to shuffle a playlist but with priorities like: new songs added to the playlist, most played and etc. Some people have 500+ song playlists but when shuffling they would love to hear their newly added songs more often than a song they added 2 years ago. Sure they could make a new playlist with their new songs but what if they like hearing an old song once in a while to spice things up a bit.

  • Get files while in recovery mode

My macbook pro has crashed and as a result I can only boot the recovery partition. I'm wondering if there is a way to transfer my files from my hard drive to a flash drive while in recovery mode. It is a 13' macbook pro that was running lion. Thanks.

I would do that but the iPod doesn't show up in iTunes at all it just says those drivers are loaded. Won't shot up in My Computer or in the device manager part of Manage --> My Computer.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Deleting Song Files in iTunes 12

I used to be able to right-click a song and delete it from my library. I can't seem to do this anymore. Has this been dialled for a reason? Is there still a method to delete files via iTunes? I can go to the file in finder and delete it but it stays in my iTunes list and throws an error message when it tries to play it.

If you use the keyboard combination OPTION + DELETE the song will be taken off iTunes, and then you will have the option to also remove it from the hard drive - which will delete it permanently.
When you look into your trash afterwards, you will see the deleted songs there.

  • How DELETE song file...won't allow me!?

Imported songs from my husband's iPod into my pc. Cannot delete songs! Info is greyed out (cannot edit, etc). Says it might be write-protected. Used Windows Explorer and directly deleted file, but now there's an exclamation point next to file in iTunes. How do I COMPLETELY delete these song files!?

There was a recent iTunes bug that prevented deleting. For now, just leave it in your library with the exclamation point. Next time you restart Windows, try again to delete it and it just may work. It did for me.

  • Can I delete song file directly from iTunes?

Currently if I want to delete any songs from my HDD I have to:
    ○ Right click th song in iTunes .
    ○ Click "Show in Windows Eplorer".
    ○ Delete the file.
    ○ Delete song in iTunes library.
◙ And repeat it all if there are more than one song I need to delete.
Is there any way to delete files from iTunes directly?

    Stuwawah wrote:
You can but in order to be able to do it directly from iTunes, the song/songs need to be store in the "iTunes folder" in your media directory or the Default folder to chose Under:
** Preferences -> Advanced -> Itunes Media folder location
    That is not accurate.
I do not keep my media in the iTunes folder because I personally cannot stand the way iTunes manages the folders.
I am able to delete media from my computer via iTunes by simply selecting delete and then selecting the option to let iTunes remove it from the drive.

  • Unable to add track to On-The-Go while in shuffle mode?

Whenever I am in shuffle mode and I add a track to the On-the-go playlist instead of adding the track that is playing it seems to always add whatever was the first track that I landed on when I entered shuffle mode. This seems like it must be a software issue.
    Can anyone duplicate this?
