Deleting Sparse member would clear respective Blocks

Hi Guru,
I have to delete historical data for past 4 years. To delete the data & also to clear the blocks associated with that (to be deleted) member, one option is to use “clearBlock" in the calc Script. However we are thinking of an easier method. Can we simply delete the Year member from the database? Since Year dimension is a Sparse dimension, by deleting a Year member (eg FY04) all data including blocks created with reference to the FY04 would also get cleared. Is our perception correct?

In our web form designed, users can add additional member to enter budget e.g. new account code, etc. However when users accidentally added some wrong account codes, can we delete the member by users or by admin?
Our onsite consultants told us that once the member is created, it cannot be deleted unless you perform export/import to remove the item.
Any quicker way can do that?

I have to delete a member from a the EAS outline. Tried deleting it manually. It throws a error stating that outline cannot be saved. Hence they restarted the services and i was able to delete the member manually. I later had a thought that may be we can write a calc script to delete that particular member. First i have to delete all the data in that member and then the member is empty after that delete the member. Not sure if we can do it. Can we do this process. If yes how do we need to go ahead with it. If there is any option pl. do let me know. I would like to avoid the manual deletion hence would like to automate.
It is a BSO cube.
Can anyone help me regarding this?

To echo Glenn, if this a pure Essbase database (and I think it is), ODI's member deletion would be through a dimension load rule. There are multiple threads on this board about "remove unspecified". If there's another way to do it, I'd love to hear it.
However, if this the back end to a Planning application, ODI can do member, children of member, descendant deletes, etc. It all depends on what the target environment provides.

You have to do it just like you do with essbase, unfortunately you can't just delete, well you could if you wrote some custom java with the essbase api.
What you have to do is create a load rule in EAS and an interface in ODI, in the load rule you would have "remove unspecified" and this would remove any members not in the rule file.

Need to retrieve all the UDAs associated to a member and its respective children in Excel

Dear Experts,
I'm working on Essbase version 11.1.2.1.106 and Hyperion smart view 11.1.2.1. There is a custom dimension in the outline and UDAs are assigned to all the members of that custom dimension.
Now the requirement is to retrieve all the UDAs of a particular member and its respective children in Excel. Please let me know if there is any option to fulfill the requirement.
Let say there is a member A and it has 10 childrens(A1-A10). All these members have UDAs assigned to them. Now i would like to retrieve/adhoc analysis all these members as well as its associated UDA in Excel. How can we do that using smart view.

If one does as you suggest, the individual UDAs can be viewed in the member selector dialog box and then members (not the UDAs) can be selected based on that.
That is not, I think, what the OP wants:

Your approach doesn't provide the above.
People have thought about using MDX to get the UDAs (and maybe someone really good with MDX metadata queries might come up with this), but that doesn't seem to be the case:
Retrieving all Uda using Mdx Query-what should be string_value_expression?
The API or Applied OLAP's new and improved Outline Extractor would seem to be the way to go. Or of course you could export out the outline using MaxL and then parse the XML.

Sparse Member rollup

Hello, I am having 9 dimensions in that 3 are dense and 6 are sparse. I am having Date as sparse member and Measure as dense member. My daily data is rolled up to weekly level in essbase calculation. For few members weekly rollup will be rollup of a member divide by rollup of some other members. For eg., 3 measures say X,Y,Z. In this Z=X/Y. So weekly rollup of Z will be weekly rollup of X divide by weekly rollup of Y. But since my Date dimension is in Sparse and Formula is in dense i am not able to achive it.The weekly members are rolled up as it is, and its not as per the formula. Can any one suggest how to achive this? Regards R.Prasanna

Save it in sparse member. This is frequent error whenwe work with Time dimension.Before it was OK, because all were dense, and it had alreadycreated blocks for it.Now, block is not there, and it should create a block, which isnot created because you are saving result in dense measure'smember. Its always best using FIX-ENDFIX for all performanceoptimization and avoiding or reducing this error. Let me know, if this helps.

I have an iPad 2 and receive e-mail through regular internet connection. Lately, when I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear, downloaded anew from the server and marked as unread. My e-mail Advanced Settings are selected for "Remove from server when moved from Inbox." Even when I access the e-mail accountfrom my desktop and delete the e-mails, the re-appear on my iPad. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to actually delete them?

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.

I am sure this question has been asked many times in this forum but I can't seem to find the answer. Also, it seems to me that this forum does not retrieve threads that are older than 2 years.
When I tried to delete a member in outline, I get the error message"Deletion of member "Working" failed as member is used in a data form"
how do you delete a member in outline that is already used in a FORM?
I guess I will have to do the following steps:
+Find the object name in the Object table by doing a query – “Where object name = member”
Write down Member ID of the oultine-member you want to delete
Go to "HSP_UNIQUE_NAMES" table found in SQL.
Delete the row.
Do a refresh
Then delete that member in the following tables:
HSP_MEMBER
HSP_MRU_MEMBERS(System 9 Only)
HSP_OBJECT
(no need to do anything in HSP_DIMENSION)
Go to each form and change the old member name to new member name.
Can anyone confirm the steps above?

You have to remove the member from the form first and then delete the member, there is no point trying to hack the tables as they have constraints on them, so you can't delete a member before it is removed from a form.

You could try increasing the java heap size, though sometimes an issue can occur if you are trying to delete a member when a workflow process has started, do you have one running?

So, how do I delete this folder. Remember, I am not extremely familiar with technical terms.

I recommend you erase the TC.. it is the easiest and fastest solution.
In Airport utility open the disk tab and select erase.. choose quick erase.. it will take less than 1min.
Start again but copy files in small amounts.
