Dell Monitor P2415Q

I have a P2415Q monitor with rMBP 13", Mid 2014, OS 10.10.2, Intel Iris and a mDP/DP cable.
Any resolution above 1920x1080 is marked as "(low resolution)" and looks that way. It makes no difference if I don't use MST or do. When I use MST, it only works with
Secondary. When I try to select MST primary, I get a message from the monitor, "No Valid MST detected. Switch to secondary?"
This is what I see with MST Secondary:
Any ideas how to resolve this?

Yup. Absolutely. I think it's Displayport or MiniDisplayport for your  13" macbook pro (early 2013), so just buy the correct cable,  plug 'er in and you should be good to go. Apparently. it even handles audio out via the displayport, so, if you wanted to connect it up to your tv set, no problem-just get an adapter or a Displayport to HDMI cable, and that's it.  I have a slightly different model of Dell monitor, 2713HM and it works just fine with my Mac Pro  (2010) and I'm liking the extra desktop space (used to have a 20" cinema display a while back)...still, pretty good monitor. ..
well, that's it

  • Connecting my MacBook Pro to Dell Monitor

Hi, I have a Dell E228WFP 24 inch monitor and I have connected it to my MacBook Pro (October 2013, Non-retina, 13 inch) with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, and another adapter off eBay, which plugs into the VGA cable that is in the back of the Dell monitor. When I turn the monitor on, the screen remians black, then the monitor goes into power save mode. The Mac can find the monitor, and the Mac says the monitor is working perfectly.
The monitor goes into power save no matter if I put it on Auto Detect or Digital imput, or Analog input.
    Please help!

Searching on Amazon, I find the monitor has HDMI.  a Mini-Displayport to HDMI adapter from the Apple Store is a much better choice than any VGA adapter.  Also your machine will support audio over HDMI if there is audio on the monitor.  If not, that's immaterial for that monitor:
    http://www.amazon.com/Dell-E228WFP-Widescreen-1680x1050-resolution/dp/B001BKR5D8
Anyway, HDMI carries the full digital signal.  So does DVI.  I for one prefer HDMI since it is less likely to fail connecting.

  • G5 DVI to VGA Dell Monitor Connection problems, need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hello,
I'm running two dell monitors both of which were connected via DVI to my g5 quad dual dvi. My tv broke and I'm using one of my monitors to connect the cable boxes HDMI input to the dells DVI input, it works great.
My problem is that i still want to run two monitors from my mac and still be able to switch channel sources from the Dells source button allowing me to switch from TV to Mac. Since I took up the dvi port on one of my monitors to connect to the cable box via HDMI, I have a free DVI cable. I purchased a tiny converter that allowed to change one end of the free DVI cable to VGA. I used this method to connect the cable to my g5's dvi port and the configured end to the VGA port on the monitor with no luck.
The Dell monitor does not pick up any signal and just goes to sleep as if my computer does not exist. The TV works fine and I'm able to switch sources. Please note that I'm not using the DVI-VGA adaptor that came with my g5 and don't know if this would make a difference. If it does, how do i set this up because this adaptor is like 5 inches long.
Does the adaptors DVI end need to be connected to the back of the g5 or does the VGA end need to be connected to the monitor or does it not matter. I need a longer dvi-vga cable as well, do they make them. This all depends if the problem actually is that that I'm not using the DVI-VGA cable that came with my mac to connect to the monitor in the first place.
Can anyone help me out here. I'm using the Dell 2208WFP Ultra Sharp.

    Bad adapter?
The G5 ports are DVI-I. Any good DVI-I to VGA adapter should be fine.

What do you mean by "HD to VGA adapter converter"?
Do you mean have an HDMI to VGA adapter connected the the Mini's HDMI port?
Or maybe you plugged n the the included HDMI to DVI adapter and then connected a DVI to DVI adapter?
In either case that will not work since VGA is analog and the Mini's HDMI port is digital only.
You need to purchase a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It plugs into the Mini's Thunderbolt port.

Make sure you get a name--brand one. I purchased some el cheapo, no-name ones and they did not work

  • How do i connect a dell monitor u2715h to my macbook pro late 2013?

How do I connect a Dell monitor U2715H to my MacBook Pro. The only drivers provided are for Windows.

THanks, James. My daughter suggested I just plug in my new monitor since Macs often don't need as much driver support as Windows machines. Sure enough, that's all I had to do.

  • Connecting MacBook Pro to a dell monitor

Having a little dilemma trying to figure out how to connect a dell monitor to my MacBook Pro. (Mid 2012)   Dell monitor has a dvi-d connection. Not sure which apple connector I need and if I need to purchase a double ended male male dvi-d cable. Help!

    Hi,
I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.
    Cheers,

  • Connecting a Dell monitor to macbook...

I have a Dell monitor that's just lying around in my room. I want to use it as a "second display" for my macbook. I realized that I can't just plug it in because the cable doesn't match.
I've been trying to find the appropriate cable for it, but I'm getting so confused with all of the DVI and VGA, etc.
Can someone tell me exactly what connector I need?
    Thank you.

You need a Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter.

  • Connecting Dell monitor to iMac?

Hello - is it possible to connect (add) my Dell monitor to my iMac (core7)?  I have a mini VGA adatper, but it will only fit into the Thunderbolt port.
Do I need to purchase a specific Thunderbolt cable?
Thanks for any help in advance -

That should still work. You only need a Thunderbolt cable for hooking to Thunderbolt capable devices, I think.

  • Trouble connecting Powermac G5 to Dell monitor

I recently aquired a G5(June 2004 model)and I am trying to connect my Dell monitor(model S2009W)to it. The monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs. I have tried connecting with a DVI cable and also a DVI-VGA adapter. Neither has worked. The monitor says it is not receiving signal from the computer. I have changed the input settings on the monitor between analog and digital, but can't get anything to work, the monitor just goes into sleep mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

That monitor has a resolution setting of 1600 x 900. Back in 2004, that wasn't a format in use, so your older G5 may not be outputting the right resolution.
Do you have a second monitor you can use so that both the Dell and the second monitor can be attached at the same time? That could make troubleshooting easier.

  • HT1758 How do I connect a 2nd (Dell) Monitor to my iMac 21in?

Trying to (want to) have a Dell Monitor hooked up to my iMac 21in...Do not have a Thunderbolt!

The only time Thunderbolt is needed is if you have a Thunderbolt only display.
You should have used the article in the subject line to identify the age of your iMac.  That would help us determine what display connector you can use.
http://www.everymac.com/ also has a good identifier.

  • Will a Mac Mini connect to my old Dell monitor?

As my old Powermac G5 is seriously out of date, I think I'm going to buy a mac mini as I have limited space for a huge imac.
However, I want to use my old Dell monitor but I'm not sure if they two will connect. The monitor is 8 years old and has one of the connectors with the two screws either site. Is there an adapter with the mini?

Yes, you can purchase a VGA to HDMI adapter or VGA to Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort. If you still want to use your G5 (I still do) then you could use a KVM switch to share a monitor, keyboard and mouse between the two.

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • Mac Mini with Dell Monitor

I just bought my dad a Mac Mini and gave him my big Apple Monitor (can't remember size but bigger than a small TV:). Well dad says the monitor is too big and wants to use his Dell monitor. I called support and for the first time I couldn't understand the technician, his accent was too strong (I really hope Apple hasn't outsourced their support). Anyway, what I got from the conversation had something to do with a VGA adapter to a DVI? I have looked at the other topics on using non-Mac displays but they aren't really on point. Any help is appreciated:)
    Thanks
    Lisa

If the Dell monitor has a VGA connector (also referred to sometimes as 'analog'), then all he will need in order to use it with the mini is the DVI/VGA adapter that is included with the mini and therefore should be in the box. I use a Dell display with one of my minis this way and it works just fine.
If the Dell has a DVI connector (which is digital) then it will plug straight in without the adapter.
Almost all computer displays in the past 10 years and more use one or other of these connector types - most are VGA.

  • MacBook Pro (early 2008) with Dell monitor

I'm looking into buying an additional monitor for next year at college. I'm looking at the Dell U2211H, because its the only one that has the pivot feature that I need for work, as well as has a TV tuner built in. Does anyone know anything about how this setup would work? For instance, can I have my MBP screen set in landscape mode, and the Dell monitor in portrait mode? Also, the Dell screen resolution is 1920x1080. Is there anywhere to get this resolution on my mac, or will the monitor have to run at 1440x990? Finally, does anyone have any experience switching a monitor back and forth between computer and TV? What kind of work is involved?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Unfortunately, maximum resolution that could go over HDMI port in OS X is 1080p.
I bought the same screen couple of weeks ago, and it is working at 2560x1440 only via DispayPort.
Another thing you macbook pro max resolution support is 1920x1200@60.
    Hope, that helps. Good Luck!
