  • Error on deploying war to Tomcat

    Hi,
    I am a new bie trying to develop a Web application.
    I have deployed a war to tomcat 5.0.25, when I try to access the ContextRoot (there is a default.jsp file in the war, that should be invoked on eneterinh the COntextRoot in the browser address bar) it gives me an error saying:

         javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:810)I developed the application using eclipse3.1 and created a WAR file using the same. Now I do not know if you can generate a WAR file using eclipse and deploy it on Tomcat5.0.25.
    Also, should I include the JDK 1.4 lib/jar files in the war file? Is that causing this error?
    Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your suggestion. your point about the folders could be right.
    Because for some reason, the folders org, org/apache, org/apache/grp under:
    /usr/local/tomcat/work/Catalina/localhost/FTPSchedulerWeb/
    were not getting created. And so we manually created them and attached them to the necessary group, to get proper file permissions.
    But my doubt still remains as to why those folders were not created. Well there is one point I want to ask here, in teh Tomcat server web.xml file, the following code is not present:
    <webapp>

    .
    .
    <servlet>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>*.jspx</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    ..
    .
    .
    </webapp>Could that be a possible reason as to why the server is unable to create those folders? Well, I do not know the actual reason. Please let me know what possibly could be the reason for this problem.
    Thanks a lot for your help!!

  • How to deploy WAR file in tomcat.?

    Can anybody please provide step by step information of deploying war file to Jakarta tomcat without IDE.
    I am working on Windows XP with jakarta tomcat 4.1.30.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Aman Aggarwal

    See if tomcat runs as a service in your operating system. If you can locate it, you can set the start type to automatic. A very crud way is to run the tomcat startup file from autoexe.bat.
    I don't know how to do this in Linux. Here is a link for tomcat 6. Maybe it is the same in tomcat 4

    Hi,
    the demo is a WAR file. So if you have a tomcat version that supports JSF 1.2 then you should be able to deploy it like any other JEE WAR file

  • Deploying war file on Tomcat: file path problem

    Hello all,
    i am using my eclipse ide for automatically deploy my webapplication to Tomcat. For Database connectivity i configured hibernate. To configure hibernate i am using the following code:
    package de.wfm.hibernate.hibernateUtil;
    import org.hibernate.HibernateException;
    import org.hibernate.Session;
    import org.hibernate.SessionFactory;
    import org.hibernate.cfg.Configuration;
    public class ESDBFactory {

         private static Session session = null;
         private static String pathToCfgFile = "de\\"
                             + "wfm\\hibernate\\hibernateUtil\\esdb.cfg.xml";
         public static synchronized Session getSession() throws HibernateException {

                             buildSessionFactory();
              session = sf.openSession();
              return session;
    }When i use this in the ide all is fine. But when i export my application to a war file and deploy it on Tomcat i got the exception:

    You have not created the context of your database in context.xml of your tomat (path for context.xml tomcat folder/conf/context.xml)
    Unless and until you don't create context you will get same error.

  • Deploying servlet on Tomcat using "ant install" not working. Please help.

    Hello. Normally I can find answers by using search, but I can't today for some reason. So please bare with me if this has been mentioned before. I will try to provide as much info as possible so that helping me isn't too much a chore. Thank you.
    I have downloaded and installed the JWSDP 1.3. and Tomcat is running. I am also using Ant 1.5.4 (previous installation - not one included with JWSDP) and modeled my build.xml file after the template provided here:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/appdev/build.xml.txt.
    When I run ant on my respository, everything builds fine. But when I run Ant with the install target, I get the following error:
    BUILD FAILED
    file:C:/owl/build.xml:366: java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response co
    de: 401 for URL: http://localhost:8080/manager/deploy?path=%2Fowl&war=file%3A%2F
    %2FC%3A%5Cowl%2Fbuild
    Here is line 366 build.xml:
    localWar="file://${build.home}"/>
    ...which is included in this block for the target "install":
    <target name="install" depends="compile"
    description="Install application to servlet container">
    <deploy url="${manager.url}"
    username="${manager.username}"
    password="${manager.password}"
    path="${app.path}"
    localWar="file://${build.home}"/>
    </target>
    When I point my brower to the url located in the error verbose, I get the following:
    FAIL - Encountered exception java.lang.NullPointerException
    I am trying to get my environment set up correctly before I start spending time developing servlets, but I am getting tempted to just develop to servlets and "manually" installing/deploying them either by copying and pasting or by using the Tomcat manager. I would really like to do everything from Ant though if possible. Please help.

    I don't think this is at all correct:
    localWar="file://${build.home}"/>You've got to create a real WAR file - a JAR file with WEB-INF and all its minions inside it:
    http://access1.sun.com/techarticles/simple.WAR.html
    That's the file you need to refer to there. You can manage that with Ant too, of course.
    Here's what my Ant build.xml looks like for Web apps (there's a build-web.properties file that follows):

  • How to deploy war files

    Hi, I am absolutely new to solaris. I just find out how to run apache server, (did it by command: svcadm enable apache2) Now I have a war file that I want to use but I have no idea how to. I found the DocumentRoot "/var/apache2/htdocs" , so I copy the war file in that directory... now I have no idea what to do.. I read tomcat should extract it somehow automatically, but nothing happens.

    What you are talking about is Apache httpd server.
    And what you need to deploy war (WebARchive) file is Apache Tomcat Servlet Container. You see, Apache httpd and Apache Tomcat are two different things.
    So, download Tomcat, put your war file into webapps catalog, run the Tomcat, and that is basically it. Application in the war file should be accessible in its context through the browser.

  • How to Deploy WAR file in solaris

    I want to deploy WAR file in Solaris.

    Install Java on Solaris.
    Install Tomcat (or whatever app server you want to on Solaris)
    Deploy the WAR file in the standard place for that app server.
    ie Tomcat would be [TOMCAT]/webapps directory.

    2005 Q1). The old war created from SJSE 6 does work. The code is identical. The war files are slightly different.
    On deployment I get:

    |#]When I remove my custom channel the desktop renders normally.
    As I mentioned before, the war created with 7 did not cause this and the application behaved normally.
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    I am going to look at the diff between the two wars.
    Thanks,

  • Help!!!not able to deploy war file properly

    hi!!!
    i have a war file( a simple service) that i have deployed to the tomcat.(pasted in the webapps folder of jwsdp home).but after starting tomcat,when i view the url
    http://dilipe:8080/sub/jaxrpc
    i get the message :A Web Service is installed at this URL.
    This endpoint is incorrectly configured. Please check the location and contents of the configuration file.
    the config.xml is:(dont know why but i use it to only to generate stubs and proxies)
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration xmlns="http://java.sun.com/jax-rpc-ri/xrpcc-config">
    <rmi name="SubService" targetNamespace="http://hello.org/wsdl" typeNamespace="http://hello.org/types">
    <service name="SubtractionService" packageName="sub">
    <interface name="sub.subIF" servantName="sub.subIMP"/>
    </service>
    </rmi>
    </configuration>
    and the web.xml file is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration xmlns="http://java.sun.com/jax-rpc-ri/xrpcc-config">
    <rmi name="SubService" targetNamespace="http://hello.org/wsdl" typeNamespace="http://hello.org/types">
    <service name="SubtractionService" packageName="sub">
    <interface name="sub.subIF" servantName="sub.subIMP"/>
    </service>
    </rmi>
    </configuration>
    and the structure of the web-inf file is
    WEB-INF
    ----------->web.xml
    ------------>*Service.properties
    ------------>Classes
    ----------->sub
    -------->.class files

    It seems you forgot to place the *Service.wsdl in the WEB-INF directory.
