Deploy Windows Management Framework 4.0 with SCCM

Hey guys,
I need to deploy the Windows Management Framework 4.0 using the Application Model in SCCM 2012 R2. I've got all the silent install/uninstall commands figured out, the only place I'm hung up on is the detection method. Anyone know how I could address that?
(i.e. PowerShell, not the .NET Framework)

Here's an article with an almost correct answer: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/powershell/archive/2009/06/25/detection-logic-poweshell-installation.aspx
For v3 and 4, the registry key is slightly different: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PowerShell\3 instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PowerShell\1

  • Collection query for computers with windows management framework 3.0

    Hi,
collection query for computers with windows management framework 3.0, but I cant found a way. I cant see that it is in the inventory data for SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS_64.DisplayName.
So any way to get computers with windows management framework 3.0?
    /SaiTech

    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct on SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ProductName like "Windows Management Framework 3.0%"
That won't work because as mentioned, it doesn't appear in ARP.
Torsten's suggestion will work or you can resort to software/hardware inventory using the info at

  • WINDOWS MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK 4.0 - A required certificate is not within its validity period

    Hello,
I can't figure out if this is because the Root Certificates were updated in April 2014 then apparently expired by Microsoft or if the PowerShell installer signed this file with a bad software release signature??
We were deploying PowerShell 4.0 (Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu) with ConfigMgr 2012 with a dependency of .NET Framework 4.5.1.  Everything was working fine until sometime around April 24 (exact date unknown).  Now any
Win 7 SP1 machines I try to update will not install WMF 4.0.  They installed .NET 4.5.1 without any trouble..
The digital signature on it it states it was signed Sept 27 2013 and the certificate expires 4/24/2014.
Even if we change the system clock to April 1 2014 it still will not install.. but this shouldn't matter anyway.  They just can't sign new software with that certificate.. surely I can install it..
    As for a log... If I run as C:\Windows\ccmcache\3>wusa.exe Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu /log:c:\windows\ccmcache\3\broken.txt
    In the broken.txt I see:
Install Worker.01194: Operation Result Code of the installation: 0X4        HRESULT of the installation: 0X80240022                Operation
Result Code of the update:0X4 HRESULT of the update: 0X800b0101

  • How to Install Windows Management Framework 4.0 on Server 2008R2 Core

I am trying to upgrade Server 2008R2 Core to PowerShell 4. I have carried out following steps.
    1. Installed .NET Framework 4.5.1 (NDP451-KB2858728-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU)
    2. Enabled WoW64-ServerCore, WoW64-NetFx2-Support, WoW64-NetFx2, WoW64-PowerShell
    3. Installed Windows Management Framework 4.0  (Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64.msu)
WMF installation shows that it was successful ("Windows update "Update for Windows (KB2819745)" was successfully installed.")
However when I restart the server following shows up on the event log ("Package KB2819745 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0xd00000bb.")

    Hello,
is you system clock set to right time
If so can you check what happens if you remove the check box from your Internet Security settings during the installation
Don't forget to put it back on after you install.
If the installation still fails right click the package and select "properties" check "digital signatures" and there details, view certificate. Does it say "This certificate is OK." If you get error there It also might bee that
you need to update your Root certificates: check out this links:

Hello, I am deploying windows 7 image using SCCM 2012 SP1, the installation goes thru fine but when it is in the process of restart, a blue screen is displayed for a split second and then it tries to reboot again with same results. Are there any logs on
the SCCM server I can check to see where the problem may be?

This generally means inaccessible boot device. How are you partitioning the drive and applying the image?

Lets say you have two domains - Domain 1 and Domain 2. Both have W2008 DCs. SCCM 2012 has been deployed to Domain 1.
You could just upgrade to W2012 DCs in Domain 1, then migrate Domain 2 resources to Domain 1.In this way SCCM is unaffected.

  • Windows Management Framework 4.0 Not Installing for no apparent reason

I have tried very hard to install WMF 4.0 and get PowerShell 3.0, as well as the latest PowerShell ISE. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Service Pack 1, I've tried meeting all the requirements in the release notes and the instructions on the download page, but
it still won't work. First, I run the .msu package, and see a screen like this:
And then, after 5 minutes or so, the bar fills up fast and I get this message: The following updates were not installed.
ANd that's it. I'm stil stuck with PowerShell 2.0, and I can't figure out what to do.

    try again with this installer

  • Fault Management Framework

    Hi folks,
I am studying the Fault Management Framework that comes with BPEL.
It is a really nice feature: in a single place I can define a strategy for handling errors that occurs in the invoke activity of any BPEL process.
I have a question about this: is there a similar tool or framework to handle in a single place errors that can occur in ANY activity of the BPEL process not only in the invoke activity.
In other words, instead of using catchall in all of BPEL processes (and writing the same code in all BPEL processes) can I use the Fault Management Framework (or write some BPEL code) to catch errors like : selectionFailure, joinFailure or others and associate specific action with them?
If anybody has an idea feels free to explain it!

    No.

  • Using a window manager in x11 to create Desktop / taskbar

Is there anyway to create JFrame's that work with the window manager (such as openbox) to create Desktop and Taskbar elements.
I'd like to see some Swing objects to help work with the window manager.
JDesktop - a panel like element to draw the wallpaper and place desktop icons.
this needs to set XChangeProperty( NET_WM_TYPE_DESKTOP)
JTaskBar - a panel to add a menu, show active windows and system tray.
needs to provide functions to query active windows and system tray items and allow user to create them as desired with some sort of callbacks to update them.
This is not to create a window manager but to work with one that already exists.
    Thanks.
I've seen jd4x but it's too complex to use.

Re qtile: thanks for the pointer. It looks interesting... However, I was under the impression that the best way to learn how to program was to write your own application(s) from scratch?
Re Wayland: it's still going to be some time before it's usable for anything, no?
(Also, I have to ask: will Wayland eventually be able to run without 3D acceleration? Will it ever support dodgy video cards on older computers, e.g. S3 Savage and Via Unichrome? Will it actually provide performance and stability benefits over X11 - e.g. being able to recover from crashes without losing applications - or will it just be a less kludgy way to get eyecandy on Linux? Because if at least the first of those isn't on the menu, I think it's a nonstarter.)
I believe in the case of Wayland, the kernel is more likely to crash than Wayland itself. Wayland is a protocol and a library implementing that protocol for writing compositors. I don't think 3D is mandatory on Wayland. Take a look at this:
03:49 < mupuf> Wayland let applications render their buffers using OpenGL, that's the big news.
    03:50 < mupuf> OpenGL isn't mandatory though

  • Subtle - another tiling window manager

It's been a while since the first subtle AUR package came up and there was never neither an introduction nor a thread here in the forum. Time to get this started and to hopefully get opinions/feedback of the of users who already gave/want to give subtle a try.
For all of you who never heared about subtle - here comes the intro:
subtle is another tiling window manager on the field with a grid-based manual tiling window manager with a strong focus on easy but customizable look and feel. In comparison to other tiling windows managers, subtle has no automatic tiling of the screen size in any way, instead windows are arranged according to positions inside of a grid - these positions are called gravities - which can completely be controlled with key bindings.
subtle also has a Ruby based config with support for lambdas as key bind actions, a wmctrl-like commandline tool (subtler) to interact with subtle and an extension (subtlext) for Ruby that is capable of doing the same and even more!
There are also small Ruby applets (sublets) that can show various stuff like system load and the time. The management of these scripts can be done with sur (Subtle User Repository) - a small command line script similar to gem which makes installing of a subtlet a piece of cake e.g.:
    sur install clock
Windows placement and window properties are determined by a complete tagging system for clients and views and can be manipulated in the config and/or per runtime with subtler/subtlext.
    Features
    - Ruby integration for config/key actions and hooks
    - Flexible panels with loadable Ruby scripts (sublets)
    - Integrated System tray
    - Complete tagging system
    - ICCM/EWMH-compliant
    - Lightweight

    Install
The AUR packages: subtle subtle-hg sur-hg
I would suggest to pick the subtle-hg package to get the latest changes.

I love this gravity idea but the WM in it's current state would not allow me to be productive (no offense) and I have a distaste for ruby ( love python ) but I'm willing to grow.  However, here are my comments:
    1) being able to tweak the gravity settings would be nice, and per-tag.  I like to have a big left window (stacked) and a column of two windows on the right.  I use wmii and this does this OK by dividing the right column.  My one grip is the I could stack on the right, but I couldn't divide AND stack.  I see the potential for that w/ subtle.  Here is my current ss: http://static.milkbox.net/ss/ss-2009-05-06.png
    2) it would be nice if you could have movement between gravities.  I'd like to move between columns.  And my gripe about like, musca and ratpoison is that when i do move between columns it doesn't keep track of the previous vertical position.  Starting with the bottom right focused, moving to the left, and then moving back to the right focuses me in the top right.  I think it would be _REALLY_ cool if you had some sort of column based movement (left gravity, center gravity, right gravity) that would cycle, and also movement up through the stack.  Not sure how this would work.
    3) I prefer that new windows are created with the same gravity as the windows already open.  I would guess this is fairly easy to do.
    4) switch to python... I AM KIDDING.  but seriously, i know it'll never happen but that's cool.  I just wanted to post this #4!...
anyways, keep up the good work.
1 + 2) What do you mean with 'per tag'? You can assign gravity tags to clients witht he config so that any layout is possible and you can freely create your own movement stuff with the grabs. Subtlext gives you control over gravities of the clients. Yes, it's Ruby and I won't argue about like you did in 4) - it's a matter of taste and I really like Ruby.
    3) So just to understand this: If you set the top left gravity to a client, you would prefer that the next client also gets top left gravity?
Wra!th wrote:Floating windows need to be stackable (egbe able to bring one infront of another using the mouse)
Well, actually this was in subtle but was removed in favor for the WindowRaise and WindowLower grab that allows e.g. to cycle through windows with center gravity.
milomouse wrote:A smaller complaint, which may or may not be due to my own ignorance, is that switching views (jump) with the shortcut seems to be a little picky. Sometimes I can use the shortcut to switch views and sometimes it refuses to work. Seems to happen mostly when I'm on an empty view and try to switch (with the shortcut) to another . I don't know if it loses focus or what. Anyway, these are minor compared to my enjoyment with Subtle so far. Thanks again.
Oh, yes. I will fix it shortly tomorrow - you may write a ticket for it so that you can see when it's fixed.

  • Dmenu_themed - Applies the colors of your window manager to dmenu

    Hi everybody,
i put together a little script named dmenu_themed which reads the window colors from the configuration of the i3 window manager and calls dmenu_run with those colors. Currently, only i3 is supported, but i'll eventually add support for gtk+ colors and other window managers.
You can use it like dmenu_run and append all dmenu_run options as they will be handed over to dmenu_run.
Head over to github and check it out:

Any feedback including questions, suggestions, feature requests, improvements etc is highly appreciated.

unexist wrote:Well, I must admit the overall idea really sounds like subtle and I don't understand some of the named differences, but I agree that the grid approach nice.
Perhaps mentioning the idea of the 3x3 grid up front was too distracting, given folks' experience with subtle. The goomwwm grid is really just a guide for fast floating window movement. Tiling functionality is not strongly linked to it, nor limited by it. Don't think of this as a tiling WM with strict grids, but a stacking WM that makes it easy to tile.
Some screenshots of tiling layouts done on the fly using a few keyboard commands:
I'm still working on the controls, but the above was done pretty quickly. I'd guess easily as fast as most manual tiling WMs, once one knows the controls...
unexist wrote:So basically all windows are stacked above each other, how do you plan multiscreen support without a virtual desktop concept? Just span the single desktop across all screens?
From the EWMH perspective of a desktop, goomwwm tags are the same thing.  Use the desktop pager from any dock or panel to switch tags, just like desktops.  The only oddities are that, like any good tiling WM, goomwwm's windows can have multiple tags and raising a tag does not hide other tags.
Multiscreen support for Xinerama and Xrandr is done and tested on what hardware I have access to (an Nvidia Twinview box, a regular Xinerama box, and a Laptop using xrandr to run an external monitor). Each physical screen has it's own grid -- that is, a fullscreen app would only fill one physical screen and splash windows center on the active monitor -- but nothing more strict than that. I suppose tags-as-desktop could be limited to each screen, but that is up to the user doing the tagging.
