Deploying an AIR app

Ahem,
my appologies for cluttering up this fine forum with legal
stuff, but my boss wants to know if we can deploy a Flex/AIR app
from a CD or DVD. Seems like a fairly innocuous want, but the
snippet of the license agreement I have attached below ( Section
2.1.1 (a). (B). ) seems to suggest that an app can only be deployed
from my web-site. I know the chances are slim, but does anyone know
if I can deploy my app from anywhere other than a web-site?
Thanks.
Flex
license agreement ***
2.1 SDK Components.
2.1.1 License Grant.
(a) SDK Components. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this Agreement, Adobe grants Licensee a non-exclusive,
nontransferable license to (A) use the SDK Components for the sole
purpose of internally developing Developer Programs, and
(B) use the SDK Components as part of Licensee’s
website for the sole purpose of compiling the Developer
Programs that are distributed through the Licensee’s
website.

Yes, you can deploy. In this case you would be under (a), you
are developing a Developer Program which you are entitled to deploy
however you like. The (b) section is for when you use the Flex SDK
as part of your own website (basically as a process as part of
application logic) to build apps. What we mean to prohibit there
(and let me note that this should not be construed as binding legal
advice from Adobe) is using the SDK to build Flex apps for other
folks which they can then distribute (as-in, don't be a large-scale
hosted compiler).

  • AIR apps using Stratus - protecting developer key

    How do we deploy an AIR app that uses Stratus and protect our developer key, since AIR is not encrypted?

    Except that the "somehow" is really not going to happen, because the code can be decompiled, and Adobe has not provided any way to keep some protected data on the client side OR even uniquely identify a particular instance of an AIR app. Unless I am wrong and someone can explain how...

  • Best practice to deploy some secret credentials in AIR app

    Hi,
    Can someone suggest the best practice way to deploy some
    secret credentials in an AIR app please?
    For example, network connection settings or passwords ?
    In my particular case (and since this is only for testing)
    I'd like to deploy a password in an AIR app. So is there any way to
    effectively deploy an encrypted store with the app ? (hope that
    makes sense!)
    Tks,
    Alex

    I think the best practice is not to do it. You can't deploy
    an encrypted local
    store file to another computer. You could encrypt the
    information some other
    way, but that just moves the problem. If you have a server,
    you could have the
    app connect to the server to get the sensitive information
    and put it into the
    ELS (ideally through HTTPS).

  • Can i update my my air app once i have deployed it to my users?

    I am developing an air app. There are a few planned versions of it.
    Is it possible to update the air app to say v1.x.
    I can't seem to find anything relating to this on the forum, could anyone point me in the direction of some info, or let me know how you handle your application updates?
    Thanks

    Yes, you can. Take a look at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7ff2. html

  • Example working Flex AIR app for Android?

    I'm having trouble getting even the most basic AIR app working on Android. Here is the code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
                            xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                            xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" xmlns:local="*"
                            width="600" height="600">
         <fx:Declarations>
             <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
         </fx:Declarations>
         <mx:Label text="Hello World"/>
    </s:WindowedApplication>
    It works fine running on  Windows in Flash Builder, obviously it's pretty simple. Here are the  commands I use to put it on a Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2.
    C:\Users\Ryan\Adobe  Flash Builder 4\Test2\bin-release>adt -package -storetype pkcs12  -keystore C:\Users\Ryan\STG-Android.pfx Test2.air Test2-app.xml  Test2.swf

    C:\Users\Ryan\Adobe Flash Builder 4\Test2\bin-release>adt -package  -target apk -storetype pkcs12 -keystore C:\Users\Ryan\STG-Android.pfx  Test2.apk Test2-app.xml Test2.swf
    password:
    test
    C:\Users\Ryan\Adobe Flash Builder 4\Test2\bin-release>adb install -r Test2.apk
    2286 KB/s (419172 bytes in 0.179s)
             pkg: /data/local/tmp/Test2.apk
    Success
    A Test2 app icon shows up on my Galaxy Tab  under Applications but when I run the app I just see a plain white  screen, I don't see the words "Hello World". Any ideas? Does anyone have  an example Flex AIR app that works on Android and can post the code so I  can try it on my Galaxy Tab? I know AIR is installed correctly on my  Galaxy because I installed an AIR app called South Park Avatar Creator  that I got from the market and it works fine.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Can individual Adobe Air apps be installed without local admin permission into a user-owned folder?

    Is this a supported scenario?
    Windows 7 PC.
    Adobe Air runtime (latest; 4.0) has been installed by an administrator using a local admin account and the eulaAccepted file is present under the "All Users" profile.
    User logs in using her own account which does not have local admin rights.
    User downloads an Air app and tries to install it to C:\Users\<username> where she has full write permissions to the disk.
    What I observe when acting as the User is that the Windows UAC (security escalation to local admin rights) dialog pops up. Can anyone clearly state what the Adobe Air installer is doing that requires the UAC escalation when installing an app to a user's folder? Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply, Chris. We're working around these problems by deploying the Air runtime + the application separately using an administration tool, which is fine for now.
    I logged the question because I don't see any registry edits or privileged folder access taking place. I suspect that the UAC escalation has something to do with the "eulaAccepted" file; checking that it exists. I doubt that escalated permissions are really required for this. In the long term, it'd be good if this "use case" could be added to the test cycle of Air; perhaps the UAC dialog could be avoided, improving the flexibility of deployment options.
    Ideally the test would start with an adminstrator-installed Air package *without* the EULA being accepted. The user should be able to install apps and approve the EULA without the UAC dialog popping up at all.

  • Air apps on Microsoft Surface?

    Microsofts challenge to the iPad is due out in mid October, which isnt that far away and we havent yet heard anything about getting Air apps on to it. Does anyone from Adobe want to comment?
    It would seem a pretty good match. Microsoft needs quality apps for its new platform and if Air developers could just compile their exisiting iPad apps for Win8 Metro then I think a lot of people would do it (I would).
    And technically it should be almost trivial given that Adobe and MS have already worked together on a version of the flash player for win 8 tablets.
    so why no news on this?

    Hi Anupam,
    For surface, developing a game and porting it as a Windows store app will suffice your requirement.A windows store app can be run on laptops,desktops and also surface running on Windows 8/8.1.Preferrably, try deploying your game as windows 8.1 store app
    unity3d 4.3 supports this.
    Keep in mind that you have to use 3D models with mobile diffuse(texture),which consume less memory while loading/progressing of the game.
    Avoid using heavy GameObjects like terrain.Instead go for a plane.Terrains are not recommended by unity on mobiles.On a tab,it will work but with consumes more memory.
    Here's a blog which will help you achieve this ,

  • Flex Air Apps on Blackberry

    I've had a Flex Air app on Playbook since it Adobe first supported Blackberry.  But, I haven't had a client requirement for deploying to Blackberry in a long time.  What is the status on Adobe's support for Blackberry?  On the Air Dev Center, I see no references to Blackberry anymore???
    Can I still build a cross-platform app for latest Blackberry devices (Blackberry 10, Playbook, etc.) using the standard Flex mobile components and Flash Builder 4.6?
    After a brief search on Blackberry's Air page, it looks like they moved to requiring the QNX components, ANEs and a new pure AS3 SDK only.  If I have to re-write code specific for Blackberry now, then it makes no sense for me to offer that to my clients. (unless they only want BB).
    So, where does Adobe stand now with Flex Mobile in Flash Builder deploying to Blackberry 10 and the Playbook?
    I'd appreciate if you could help bring me back up to speed.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Absolutely, Flex works very well indeed and is fully supported on BlackBerry PlayBook and BB10 devices. The free packaging module for Flash Builder is part of the BB SDK for AIR and is supplied by RIM, not by Adobe.
    With Flex you'll of course be using Adobe UI components, which look less native than the BB-supplied "pure AS3" UI components unless you skin them. But they work just fine.

  • Air App will not read local text file using openAsync/readUTFBytes on user (non-admin) mode

    I am running an Air App I did for the desktop, from the actual installed executable already deployed in the machine (Not from Flash Pro / Flex dev. environment). For some reason the app will not read a text file stored in the same application folder unless I run my app as administrator from the OS.
    When I run the app as admin, or within the development environment it works fine. Maybe this is related to some security issue? I read the adobe air documentation, and this should work...
    I am using openAsync/readUTFBytes on user as shown here:
    var continueGamesConnection:FileStream();
    var continueFile:File = new File(File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("continueGames.txt").nativePath.toString());
    continueGamesConnection.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, openSavedGames);
    continueGamesConnection.openAsync(continueFile, FileMode.UPDATE);
    function openSavedGames(event:Event):void
         continueGamesConnection.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, openSavedGames);
         var content:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
         var loadedContent:String = new String();
         loadedContent = continueGamesConnection.readUTFBytes(continueGamesConnection.bytesAvailable);
         content.decode(loadedContent);
         variableX = content. variableX
         //etc, etc.
         continueGamesConnection.close();
    By the way, I have also, tried using FileMode.READ, and others, and it still gives me the same problem. Only works if ran on admin mode or from the dev. environment.
    It's very frustrating, I tried reading other posts without any luck... What solutions do people use for this kind of problem?
    I have seen that you can set the app to run as admin somehow, and I guess that could work. However, this should work just fine, since it doesn't seem to violate any of the security APIs of Air. Seems like an overkill. But even so, how do I do that?
    You help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks kglad.com. I will try this and see if it works. Can you check my code a bit to see if it's right?
    var continueFile:File = new File(File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("savedgames/continueGames.txt").nativePath.toString());
    Does this look right to work across all desktop OS?

  • Ad-hoc AIR app installation, without UDIDs

    I am currently building an AIR app for iOS, targeting iPad, with Flash CS5.5. I realize Flash gives me the option to build and deploy the app as an ad-hoc deployment which is fine. But what I'd really like to do is replicate the process here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5546581/how-to-distribute-ios-application-wirelessly-wi thout-managing-udids-and-recompil
    Where I can point users to a web link that lets them install the app on their device, regardless of whether their UDID is in the provision.
    I tick off 'Deploymen - Ad Hoc' in the publish settings, and Flash generates the ipa file fine, but when I upload the ipa and provision file to my ftp server, and try to install on my iPad, an alert box come up saying "Can't connect"
    The key piece of the html install looks like this:
    <a href="itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=http://www.example.com/ipadapp/myApp/myApp.plist"><img src="icon_57.png" alt="" width="59" /></a>
    It seems the missing piece is the .plist file, but I don't know how to generate that from Flash/AIR.
    I have a normal Apple developer account (not enterprise).. not sure if that factors into things. Thanks!

    You should read all of the comments. By the end it seems as if it may be a special feature of the enterprise account that the UDIDs are collected automatically. Or something like that.
    It's not hard to add devices to your developer account, and the Mac App Store application BetaBuilder is incredibly easy to use. You end up with the over the air installing that you want, without your users having to install the provisioning file via iTunes.

  • Packaging and Delivering AIR Apps

    Hi Guys,
    I have an issue. I have a config file in my air application
    that I want change depending on what user it is being delivered to.
    The number of users could be extremely large, possibly in their
    hundreds so to have to change the config file again and again by
    hand is unfeasible. I had an idea to automate this process with a
    web app that will take some user information and use it to update
    the details in the config. However what I am struggling with is
    whether to compile the app, open the it up in java and change the
    config file. Or whether to adjust the config file first, than
    compile the air app.
    I know how to view and read the config files in the air app
    from a java program once the air app has been compiled, but writing
    to those files is alluding me at this time. What I know nothing
    about however, is compiling an air app with a java program.
    Has anybody else had this problem? How did you go abouts
    solving this? What are your reccomendations?
    Any help would be extremely useful.

    Just transparently download the file in the background on
    first run, then store it in the application storage directory. This

    build can deployed with an unlimited number of pssible
    configurations and makes it easy to update the config file in the

    Oh I see where your coming from! Very Good idea, I like it a
    lot. I may actually use this implementation. Thank you for your

  • Performs great as web app but dismally as an AIR app

    I am developing an app to deploy to Adobe AIR desktop. I am using HTML 5, CSS, jQuery 1.8.3 and jQuery Mobile 1.2.0. The app works great as a web app in all environments I have tested it: Windows, Mac, Linux (Ubuntu) and Linux (CentOS). As an air App it works great in Mac OS but is extremely (sluggish) in Windows. Does anybody know why this is so? I can provide video demos or the .air file in case anyone want to take a look. Let me know.

  • Error auto-deploying a Web App (.WAR file)

    Hello,
    Weblogic 6.1 throws a FileNotFoundException about 10% of the time for me when
    auto-deploying a Web app. Has anyone else run into this? I searched the newsgroups
    but didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd start here.
    My build/deploy cycle is managed by an Ant build file that creates a WAR file
    of my web application and then drops it into $WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications.
    Occasionally when I do this, I get the error shown below. Originally I was building
    the WAR file right in the ../applications directory, so I thought that might be
    an issue. So, I started building the WAR file in a staging directory and copying
    it into ../applications. No luck. Next, I tried deleting the original WAR file
    from ../applications, and THEN copying the new one over from the staging directory.
    Still fails occasionally.
    Let's see. This is Weblogic 6.1 on Win2K. The only other thing is that my dev/build/staging
    environment is on a network share, and it's from there that I'm copying the WAR
    file to my local machine (where WL is running).
    If someone has seen and/or knows what is up with this, great. If not, it's not
    a show-stopper.
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    David

    Michael,
    This is a problem with 6.1 SP2 also -- a very annoying error. Without auto deploy
    working properly, developers are spending alot of time waiting for WebLogic to restart.
    HELP!!! we need this fixed.
    I see the EXACT same stack trace (ERROR).

    Hi.
    This may be a known issue that was addressed in sp2. If you are not already
    at that sp level I suggest you upgrade.
    Regards,
    Michael

    Hello,
    Weblogic 6.1 throws a FileNotFoundException about 10% of the time forme when
    auto-deploying a Web app. Has anyone else run into this? I searchedthe newsgroups
    but didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd start here.
    My build/deploy cycle is managed by an Ant build file that creates a WARfile
    of my web application and then drops it into $WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications.
    Occasionally when I do this, I get the error shown below. OriginallyI was building
    the WAR file right in the ../applications directory, so I thought thatmight be
    an issue. So, I started building the WAR file in a staging directoryand copying
    it into ../applications. No luck. Next, I tried deleting the originalWAR file
    from ../applications, and THEN copying the new one over from the stagingdirectory.
    Still fails occasionally.
    Let's see. This is Weblogic 6.1 on Win2K. The only other thing is thatmy dev/build/staging
    environment is on a network share, and it's from there that I'm copyingthe WAR
    file to my local machine (where WL is running).
    If someone has seen and/or knows what is up with this, great. If not,it's not
    a show-stopper.
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    David

  • Adobe AIR app installation issue due to certificate problem on mac 10.9.5

    Im trying to upgrade and then reinstall an Adobe Air application but get the error message failing to install due to a certificate issue.
    The developer says the fix is to uninstall the app and install again but this also fails.
    Checked my machine clock - saved but that didnt work
    The adobe AIR uninstaller simply says I have the latest version? Cant seem to delete and reinstall although other adobe air apps work so I dont think this is the issue
    I have gone through the troubleshooting guide: Troubleshoot AIR installation | Mac OS but still have the issue?
    Any ideas would be great.

    I suspect your Mac OS install was an in place upgrade from an earlier version. This is something I would never even consider with a production machine.

  • Need to 'launch' AIR app from SD card on Samsung Galaxy TABLET...

    April/28/11 at 3pm ET
    Hi to the group...
    Not 100% sure if this is proper forum to ask this, if anyone knows a better one please point me to it via ([email protected])
    Ok. Trying to see if my working .AIR app will run on my pals Samsung Tablet (before I buy one for myself)...
    Dropped the 'AIR' file onto the SD card (I can see it (the AIR file, size correct) via the fileBrowser app but clicking it does nothing.
    Of note AIR is installed in background of the device and it is running.
    Cant see/find an 'Adobe AIR launcher?' icon' anywhere (only see Adobe PDF browser).
    In all my web searching I see 10000 developer related tutorials re: creating an APK file / converting to APK file using Flash Professional ect.  Not what I am looking for...
    I think I am missing something very basic here is there a launcher for AIR apps on Android?
    TIA //GregH
