Deployment of multiple webapp's within an ear

I am trying to deploy an ear file with multiple webapps in OC4J, but without success.
I have build an ear file containing all the webapps of the UIX 2.0 Demo bundle, which I want to deploy as UIX development documentation. The ear and wars are extracted successfull and there is no single message which indicates a problem of the deployed ear.
When accessing the webapps I get an HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I always get this error when the http-web-site.xml is configured wrong, so I assume it is not configured in the rightway. Because of the multiple webapps within the ear.
Here is some code from those files:
server.xml
<application name="uixdemobundle" path="../applications/uix20demobundle.ear" auto-start="true"/>
http-web-site.xml
<web-app application="uixdemobundle" name="uixdemobundle" root="/uixdemobundle"/>
Normally this is enough to configure single webapp. Do I have to add more lines to http-web-site.xml for each webapp ? Something like the following for instance or does the above line work recursively.
<web-app application="uixdemobundlehome" name="uixdemobundlehome" root="/uixdemobundle/home"/>
<web-app application="uixdemobundledocs" name="uixdemobundledocs" root="/uixdemobundle/docs"/>
Can somebody help me out on this issue ?
Regards Michel

Hi,
I managed to fix this problem. For those who mite come across the same issue in the future, this is how i did it.
I put the applets code in the war file under an applet dir. That the the index.html is in the root (of the war dir) and the applets code is in a /applet dir.
Hence the codebase simply reads, codebase="applet/"

  • Deploying multiple wars within an ear (including web services) - pls advise

    **Apologies - this post also appears in the standard Java forums, before I realised there was a separate Enterprise forum!**
    Hello all
    I am working on an application that receives XML messages from sending systems, processes them and forwards them to receiving systems. There is a set of rules concerning who can send what to who. The entry and exit points to the application are web services.
    I would be very grateful for some general advice on best practice for packaging this application. I have done a lot of browsing and read some articles, but I understand the whole picture has changed recently with the growing popularity of web services and that many of the articles I have read are probably out of date.
    The whole thing could be packaged into a single war, but it would be ideal to treat the different components separately as in the future they may be modified and deployed separately. I therefore envisaged having 3 wars in an ear as follows: -
    a. A set of incoming web services to receive messages from the sending system. This is like a hook into b (below). The sending systems will be clients to these web services.
    b. A web application that takes the messages from a and processes, authenticates and transforms them.
    c. A set of outgoing web services that sends the message on to the receiving system. These will be like facades to the receiving systems and b will be a client to them.
    The whole thing would then work in reverse to process the response.
    A few questions: -
    1. I know I haven't given much info here, but does this seem like a reasonable basic packaging strategy? Any other suggestions?
    2. Is it good practise to package multiple wars together into an ear? If anyone could send me an example ant script that does this, I would be so grateful.
    3. Wars a and c above will both need to have full visibility and access to b, which is the "brains" of the whole thing. How is this best achieved when packaging?
    4. If you could point me in the direction of a best practice guide, examples or tutorials, I would be very grateful.
    Many thanks for taking the time to read my post - and for any replies.
    Kind regards
    Jon

    That is a viable method to package your application, pending the architecture of your application supports this.
    Each WAR file will be packaged as a seperate web application and all web applications on that web server will be able to communicate with each other over sockets by having the URL of the web component that you wish to communicate with. This interface needs to be there mind you.
    EAR files are generally deployed to an application server so if you happen to have an application server like Weblogic or Websphere then this would be an ideal setting for hosting your application. Packaging in an EAR file and also hosting on an application server gives you the benefit of using J2EE constructs, like EJB's to provide an alternative means of communication between different web components.
    Packaging seperate wars into an ear file really wouldn't work out too well with just a standard servlet container like Tomcat.

  • Loading applet for a jar within an ear

    Hi,
    Apologies if my question sounds ignorant, this is the first time i'm playing with applets.
    I'm trying to load an applet from a JAR (applet.jar) which contains all the files specific to the applet. The applet.jar resides within an ear (application.ear) which is deployed on JBoss.
    The applet related stuff is in the package com.dms.applet (which makes up the applet.jar)
    My index.html resides in a war file (webapp.war), which essentially contains a bunch of servlets. Index.html is a two frame page, which tries to load the applet in one frame and a servlet in another (servlets work fine).
    My <APPLET> tag for the frame in which the applet is displayed (is another html file - applet.html) looks something like this:
    <html><body>
    <APPLET
         code="com.dms.applet.NavigationApplet.class"
         codebase=./"
         archive="applet.jar, application.ear"
         width=200
         height=500
    >
    </APPLET></body></html>
    however, the applet always fails to load, i get the following exception when i open the java console:

    It seems evident that the applet class loader can't find my applet.class and hence can't load it. I guess that its something wrong with my <APPLET> tag, but can't quite seem to get my finger on it. Do i need to explicitly tell the class loader to look for it in the applet.jar which is in the applicatin.ear?
    Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Invoking JAR within an EAR

    I am having trouble invoking my project which is packaged in a jar and the jar is then packaged in an ear file.
    I need to deploy this big ear file onto an AIX server. No single jar file can be deployed onto the server so I have no option but to include my batch project into the ear file, however, when I try to invoke my main within this jar (within the ear), the class can't be found! Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

    oh also I forgot to mention that I am invoking my program via shell script.
    My script invokes the main function, so my first problem is not being able to 'see' that main function in my ear.I did, however, defined my ear file inside the classpath and used the classpath option when calling my programs. Thanks!

  • Multiple SOA clusters within a Single Domain

    Hi All,
    We're looking at a scenario where there would be multiple SOA clusters within a single domain. Would that be possible to do? I mean I can create multiple SOA clusters but it seems that applications deployed to one of the 2 SOA clusters seem to go into an inconsistent state. Please advise. Thank you.

    This is just because all SOA servers in a domain will refer to one(same) SOAINFRA schema for SOA deployments info and hence belong to same logical group (cluster) and that's the reason why you cann't even have two separate SOA managed servers without a cluster.

  • Multiple war file in single ear in ATG10.1.1 with JBoss

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to have multiple war files in single ear in ATG? I tried to deploy one but got some errors when. I tried this so that I can have a new site without altering existing crs.
    I have an ATG10.1.1 instance (Windows 7, JBoss-eap-5.1, Oracle 11gR2) with crs installed and running.
    I am not sure whether its a good practice or not. Please correct me if I am going wrong
    Here is the steps that I have done.
    1. Created new war file in CommerceReferenceStore (Copied existing store.war and renamed it to sample.war)
    <ATG_DIR>/CommerceReferenceStore/Store/Storefront/j2ee-apps/Storefront/store.war to <ATG_DIR>/CommerceReferenceStore/Store/Storefront/j2ee-pps/Storefront/sample.war
    then,
    a) Edited sample.war/WEB-INF/web.xml to add new context root.
    <context-param>
    <param-name>context-root</param-name>
    <param-value>sample</param-value>
    </context-param>
    b) Edited sample.war/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
         Manifest-Version: 1.0
         ATG-Module-Uri: sample.war
         ATG-Context-Root: sample
    2. Edited <ATG_DIR>/CommerceReferenceStore/Store/Storefront/j2ee-apps/Storefront/META-INF/application.xml
    Added new web module
    <web>
    <web-uri>
    sample.war
    </web-uri>
    <context-root>
    sample
    </context-root>
    </web>
    3. Modified <ATG_DIR>/CommerceReferenceStore/Store/Storefront/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF to add new web module
    ATG-Web-Module: j2ee-apps/Storefront/store.war j2ee-apps/Storefront/sample.war j2ee-apps/Storefront/storedocroot.war
    j2ee-apps/Storefront/assemblerSearchResultsSample.war
    4. Deployed using cim
    From CIM, selected [3] Application Assembly & Deployment
    Entered ear file name - ATGProduction.ear
    Then select server instance - ATGProduction
    Select JBoss Server to use - ATGProduction
    [D] Deploy Production with a Server Lock Manager ATGProduction.ear to JBoss
    - Done
    [R] Register Datasources on JBoss - Done
    [A] Add database driver to app server classpath - Done
    [P] Post Deployment Actions on JBoss - Done
    And restarted server.
    When I tried to access crs/storeus, I got following error
    18:50:36,060 ERROR [[jsp]] Servlet.service() for servlet jsp threw exception

    Thank you,

    Hi,
    This is not an issue caused by having multiple wars inside same ear.
    This looks like a runtime exception when trying to render the jsp (The jsp is compiled to a sevlet and the inside the service method of the servlet you are getting this exception). Double check you jsp for the possible cause of this exception.
    Thanks,
    Gopinath Ramasamy

  • Deployment operation was not completed within timeout

    I use Eclipse 3.3 and WLS 10. If i deploy my EAR to the server after 5min i get the following error in plugin "com.bea.workshop.wls.core":
    "Deployment operation was not completed within timeout. State Type : running; Command Type : distribute; Action Type : execute; Completed : false; Failed : false; Message : null; Exception : null"
    The timeout ist just in the eclipse-plugin , the deplyoment on the server runs to end but the application ist not activated.
    Anyone has solved this problem?
    Thanks
    Diego

    The timeout happens every time when i deploy the ear the first time to the server and the stubs are generated and compiled.
    it is funny that last info before timeout-error 'publishing finished' comes while wls is in full action compiling the myprojEjbEntity-module.

  • In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph?

    In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph.
    I need to make a table of contents for my Mater's Thesis and want to use the automatic table of contents feature.  I want the first sentence of a paragraph to have a different paragraph setting than the rest of the paragraph.  Is this possible?
    Thanks!

    Nice of you to be doing this for your Mother's Thesis.
    There are several issues here:
    1. A Paragraph Style is what it says, the style for the paragraph
    2. You can format text within a paragraph by applying a Character Style
    3. Pages 5.5.1 lets you apply formatting to overall text for the T.O.C. but not parts of it and you can not retain that formatting as a Paragraph style
    So in answer to your question, no.
    You will need to create the T.O.C. manually and unfortunately as Pages 5.5.1 can't create bookmarks (just one of over 100 missing features) you will be unable to link the T.O.C. to the referred pages in the list.

    Apple's marketing slogan:
    Pages 5.5.1 - Can't Do That!

  • Trying to get multiple cell values within a geometry

    I am provided with 3 tables:
    1 - The GeoRaster
    2 - The geoRasterData table
    3 - A VAT table who's PK is the cell value from the above tables
    Currently the user can select a point in our application and by using the getCellValue we get the cell value which is the PK on the 3rd table and this gives us the details to return to the user.
    We now want to give the worst scenario within a given geometry or distance. So if I get back all the cell values within a given geometry/distance I can then call my other functions against the 3rd table to get the worst scores.
    I had a conversation open for this before where JeffreyXie had some brilliant input, but it got archived while I was waiting on Oracle to resolve a bug (about 7 months)
    See:
    Trying to get multiple cell values within a geometry
    If I am looking to get a list of cell values that interact with my geometry/distance and then loop through them, is there a better way?
    BTW, if anybody wants to play with this functionality, it only seems to work in 11.2.0.4.
    Below is the code I was using last, I think it is trying to get the cell values but the numbers coming back are not correct, I think I am converting the binary to integer wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Hey guys,
    Zzhang,
    That's a good spot and as it happens I spotted that and that is why I am sure I am querying that lob wrong. I always get the a logic going past the total length of the lob.
    I think I am ok using 11.2.0.4, if I can get this working it is really important to us, so saying to roll up to 11.2.0.4 for this would be no problem.
    The error in 11.2.0.3 was an internal error: [kghstack_underflow_internal_3].
    Something that I think I need to find out more about, but am struggling to get more information on is, I am assuming that the lob that is returned is all cell values or at lest an array of 4 byte (32 bit) chunks, although, I don't know this.
    Is that a correct assumption or is there more to it?
    Have either of you seen any documentation on how to query this lob?
    Thanks

  • How do I filter on multiple values / labels within a Pivot Table which points to a Power Pivot Model

    Hi,
    How do I filter on multiple values / labels within a large data set within a Pivot Table which points to a Power Pivot Model. I am current using Excel 2010 64 bit. I intend to empower users to achieve this by simply using the Excel user interface, not by
    using Excel formula or DAX. Please find the attached screen shot as a worked example, also in my real life example not all the values are available in the drop down. You can't use a slicer for the same reason as you can't use a drop down. I guess what I was
    hoping for is for the user to be able to enter AND or OR within the associated dialog box. Is there any way around this?
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

    Hi
    This is the forum to discuss questions about Microsoft Excel develop (VBA, Automation). For your question is more about pivot table features  for Excel, I will move
    this thread to the TechNet forum for Excel.
    The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share
    their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.
    Thank you for your understanding.
    Best Regards

  • Multiple webapp timeout

    I am working on a website using JSP and Servlets that contains multiple webapps. A user could potentially leave one webapp and spend a large amount of time in another before going back. We would like to find a way to prevent timeout from occurring if this happens. Does anyone have any ideas how we might prevent the timeout in a situation like this? We prefer not to increase the timeout of the webapps to accomodate this situation.
    Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

    ...prevent timeout from occurring... seems to be in contradiction with ...prefer not to increase the timeout...
    However...
    If all the webapps are running in the same domain, each webapp can see the sessionID related cookie(s) and send requests to other webapp(s) using java.net.URL with including the cookie value.
    That way, the target webapp(the one that should not timeout on the end user) will be kept thinking that the end user is active.

  • Multiple subject areas within publisher & drill downs

    Hi ,
    can we pull data from multiple subject areas within publisher and place the report on a dashboard and still do drill downs?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply,
    I could not see any provision to get data from multiple subject areas.
    In BI Answers we can get data from multiple subject Areas but we cannot do the drill down.
    If there is any way to get data from multiple subject areas and still do the drill down then plz increase my knowledge repository....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks,

  • Deploy to multiple similar servers

    Hi,
    I am evaluating usefulness of Release Management for my organization and I have one scenario which I find troublesome doing in Release Management (update 3).
    I have tens of components and I have around 30+ servers at each stage (4 stages). In general in release process I want to deploy a component to a single server but from time to time I would like to deploy it to all servers at given stage.
    As far as I understand I need separate Release Template for each component to deploy it to specific server (that's ok for me) and another one to deploy it to all servers. In this second one, I will need to specify each server and actions for it separately
    which seems to be maintenance hell.
    What I am looking for, is a way to simplify this second Release Template to accept deployment to a set of servers conforming some rules (i.e. naming or supported technologies). Or maybe I should setup things differently in Release Management?
    Thanks for help,
    Michał

    Hi Michal,
    Thanks for your post.
    If you want to deploy to multiple servers in one Stage, please try the below steps:
    In one of your current Environment, linked multiple servers in it.
    Specify this Environment in your release path’s one Stage(stage1).
    In your release template>> state1, please add other Sequence activities(under Toolbox>>Control Flow) in the Deployment Sequence, then you can drag the different servers from Toolbox into each Sequence activity separately, each Sequence can perform
    the separate deployment.
