Derby and boolean values

does anyone have any information to help me use boolean/bit datatype in Derby

boolean/bit datatype in DerbyI was in a similar dilemma not too long ago. Try using smallint data type(0 = false, 1=true). It should work.

  • Void and boolean

    public void boolean compute(int n)
    { if n>5
         {return true; }
         else
       {return false; }
      }Is this subroutine possibly correct?
    Is there any possibility for a subroutine to have void and boolean at the same time (not to mention an if without parentesis)??
    Thank you
    --david

    What do you mean "void and boolean at the same time"?
    If it compiles, then it's guaranteed to return a boolean value (unless it throws an exception, or the VM shuts down or something). The compiler is quite anal about that.
    A simpler way to write it would be public void boolean compute(int n) {
        return n > 5;
    } But then, you don't exactly need a method for that, do you.
    The if without parens will not compile.

  • How to use Boolean values from 2 different sources to stop a while loop?

    I am working on a program for homework that states E5.4) Using a single Whil eLoop, construct a VI that executes a loop N times or until the user presses a stop button. Be sure to include the Time Delay Exress Vi so the user has time to press the stop botton.
    I am doing this right now but it seems as though I can only connect one thing to the stop sign on th while loop. It won't let me connect a comparision of N and the iterations as well as the stop button to the stop sign on the while loop. So how would I be able to structure it so that it stops if it receives a true Boolean value from either of the 2 sources (whichever comes first)?
    Basically, I cannot wire the output of the comparison of N and iterations as well as the stop button to the stop button on the whlie loop to end it. Is there a solution?
    Thanks!

    Look in the boolean palette for something similar to the word hightlighted in red above.

  • Is there a way of passing a mixed cluster of numbers and booleans to teststand

    Hi,
    I have a labview VI that contains an output cluster containing both numeric and boolean results and would like to pass this to Teststand. At the moment I have coverted all my boolean results to  '1/0'  so that I can create a numeric array and can quite easily pass this to Teststand (using multiple numeric limit test).
    Is there a way to pass mixed results to Teststand and write in the limits (example PASS and GT 5V) or do I have to stick with what I have?
    Chris

    Which test step type to use depends on what you have to analyze - a boolean condition? String? Number(s)? I can't tell you because I don't know what's in your cluster. If you click on the plus sign next to the parameter name "output cluster" you will see all paramters and their types, which are passed from the VI to TestStand.
    You can either create a variable for the whole cluster, or you can assign all or just some values from within the cluster to variables.
    The name of the variable (Locals.xxxxxxx... or FileGlobals.xxxxx...) ist what you type in the value field. You can also choose the variable from the expression browser by clicking on the f(x) button.
    Are you new to TestStand, do you know how to work with variables in TS?
    Maybe the attached picture gives you an example, there I am assigning the values from VI output "VoltageOutputArray" to the TS variable locals.VoltageMeasurement.
    This variable ist used again on the tab "Data Source" as the Data Source Expression.

  • Error - '' is not a valid boolean value

    I have been receiving the error message = '' is not a valid Boolean value quite frequently.  It doesn’t matter which hierarchy I am in but it’s typically when I do an Add or Insert.  When selecting ‘ok’ on the error message, I’m able to continue on with my work but was just curious what causes this error.  Sometimes when this error shows up and I click ‘ok’, it will take me out of the DRM screen and into whatever else I may have open at the moment.  Any thoughts or ideas?  We are on version 11.1.1.2.103

    As Murali stated-
    It could be a property incorrectly configured, check all the boolean type properties and see if any of them are getting a string value by any chance.
    Thanks

  • How to know that a method has been called and returning value of a method

    Hi, everyone! I have two questions. One is about making judgment about whether a method has been called or not; another one is about how to return "String value+newline character+String value" with a return statement.
    Here are the two original problems that I tried to solve.
    Write a class definition of a class named 'Value' with the following:
    a boolean instance variable named 'modified', initialized to false
    an integer instance variable named 'val'
    a constructor accepting a single paramter whose value is assigned to the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'getVal' that returns the current value of the instance variable 'val'
    a method 'setVal' that accepts a single parameter, assigns its value to 'val', and sets the 'modified' instance variable to true, and
    a boolean method, 'wasModified' that returns true if setVal was ever called.
    And I wrote my code this way:
    public class Value
    boolean modified=false;
    int val;
    public Value(int x)
    {val=x;}
      public int getVal()
      {return val;}
       public void setVal(int y)
        val = y;
        modified = true;
         public boolean wasModified()
          if(val==y&&modified==true)
          return true;
    }I tried to let the "wasModified" method know that the "setVal" has been called by writing:
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    or
    if(x.setVal(y))
    I supposed that only when the "setVal" is called, the "modified" variable will be true(it's false by default) and val=y, don't either of this two conditions can prove that the method "setVal" has been called?
    I also have some questions about the feedback I got
    class Value is public, should be declared in a file named Value.java
    public class Value
    cannot find symbol
    symbol  : variable y
    location: class Value
    if(val==y&&modified==true)
    *^*
    *2 errors*
    I gave the class a name Value, doesn't that mean the class has been declared in a file named Value.java*?
    I have declared the variable y, why the compiler cann't find it? is it because y has been out of scale?
    The other problem is:
    Write a class named  Book containing:
    Two instance variables named  title and  author of type String.
    A constructor that accepts two String parameters. The value of the first is used to initialize the value of  title and the value of the second is used to initialize  author .
    A method named  toString that accepts no parameters.  toString returns a String consisting of the value of  title , followed by a newline character, followed by the value of  author .
    And this is my response:
    public class Book
    String title;
    String author;
      public Book(String x, String y)
       { title=x; author=y; }
       public String toString()
       {return title;
        return author;
    }I want to know that is it ok to have two return statements in a single method? Because when I add the return author; to the method toString, the compiler returns a complain which says it's an unreachable statement.
    Thank you very much!

    Lets take this slow and easy. First of all, you need to learn how to format your code for readability. Read and take to heart
    {color:0000ff}http://java.sun.com/docs/codeconv/html/CodeConvTOC.doc.html{color}
    Now as to your first exercise, most of it is OK but not this:   public boolean wasModified()
          if (val == y && modified == true)
                return true;
    y being a parmeter to the setValue method exists only within the scope of that method. And why would you want to test that anyways? If modified evaluates to true, that's all you need to know that the value has been modified. So you could have   public boolean wasModified()
          if (modified == true)
                return true;
       }But even that is unnecessarily verbose, as the if condition evaluates to true, and the same is returned. So in the final analysis, all you need is   public boolean wasModified()
          return modified;
       }And a public class has to be declared in a file named for the class, yes.
    As for your second assignment, NO you cannot "return" two variables fom a method. return means just that: when the return statement is encountered, control returns to the calling routine. That's why the compiler is complaining that the statement following the (first) return statement is unreachable.
    Do you know how to string Strings together? (it's called concatenation.) And how to represent a newline in a String literal?

              // EMPTY
         @Override
         public void validate() {
              // EMPTY
    } // end classBut the rendering comes all wrong (a String saying true or false, not the expected checkbox from the default renderer) and also there is a weird flickring effect as this particular boolean column is editable (per table model, not show here)...
    I can post the table model and the other renderer if needed (didn't want to put too much code on the question, at least initiallty).
    Should I render a checkbox myself for this cell in the custom renderer? I'm puzzled as I expected the default renderer part of the code to do this for me instead.
    Thanks!

    camickr
    Thats because the default render is a JLabel and it just displays the text from the toString() method of the Object in the table model.What I meant to say is that I expected the JCheckbox not a String representation of the boolean value.
    Thats because a different renderer is used depending on the Class of data in the column. Look at the source code for the JTable class to see what the "default >renderer for the Boolean class" is. Then you can extend that or if its a private class then you will need to copy all the code and customize it.At the end I looked at the code and replicated the functionality I needed. I thought than maybe there was a way to avoid replicating the same logic all over again in order to implement this functionality. Good advice, though.
    see you learned nothing from your last posting. This is NOT a SSCCE. 90% of the code you posted is completely irrelevant for the described problem. There is abosutelly no need to post the custom TableModel, because there is no need to use a custom TableModel for this problem. The TableModel has nothing to do with how a column is rendererd.The custom table model returns the type of the column (giving a hint to the renderer on what to expect, right?) and for the one that had a problem it says than the class is Boolean. That's why I mentioned it:
    public Class getColumnClass(int columnIndex) {
        // Code omited....
    You also posted data for 4 columns worth of data. Again, irrelevant. Your question is about a single column containing Boolean data, so forget about the other columns.
    When creating a SSCCE you don't start with your existing code and "remove" code. You start with a brand new class and only add in what is important. That way hopefully if you made a mistake the first time you don't repeat it the second time.That's what I did, is not the real application. I copy & pasted code in a haste from this dummy program on this forum, not the best approach as it gave the wrong impression.
    Learn how to write a proper SSCCE if you want help in the future. Point taken, but there is NO need for you to be rude. Your help is appreciated.

    Jose.

  • AudiCLip.play should return a boolean value

    Java Experts,
    looks like it's a bug in java, the audioClip.play method should return a boolean value indicating whether it was able to play the clip or not. Because sometimes the method doesn't play anything. Right now the method plays asynchronously that may be the reason that it returns a void. Thoughts???

    i agree with you..i also encountered this problem sometimes the play method doesn't play and the programmer has no clue to figure this out programmetically...Looks like this problem has no solution..where are java experts in this forum??

  • How to manipulate arrays using case statements and boolean conditions?

    In the vi that is attached I am trying to compare two values in two different arrays and delete the value that is equal to zero.  The values of each array are rounded to the closest integer.  Then I attempted to apply the ">0" boolean as the condition for my case statement, but I am getting an error.  Any tips on manipulating arrays with case statements?

    Thank you!!! that was a huge help. I don't think I need the case structures at all.  The next part of the code compares the 4 values in the array.
    If columns 0 and 1 are both positive -> output 1
    If column 0 is negative and 1 is positive -> output 2
    If columns 0 and 1 are both negative -> output 3
    If column 0 is positive and 1 is negative -> output 4
    (0 is x-axis value, 1 is y-axis value.....outputs are assigning quadrants to the combination)
    Only one of the "AND" booleans will return true for each index.  Is there a way to initialize another array of outputs 1-4 depending on which AND returns true?

  • Newbie - How to retrieve a "Boolean" value in a jsp via jsf ?

    Is it possible to retrieve a Boolean value from a BBean from, from let's say a 'rendered' tag ?
    class BBean
    Boolean secure;
    public Boolean getSecure() {...}
    From the jsf:
    <h:outputText value="#{somebean.whatever}" rendered="#{BBean.? == false}" />
    How do I use the Boolean object in an expression like the one above ?
    Note: I've simplified the example above, but I cannot use a primitive boolean for this, the objects I use
    are generated with "Boolean"s and I have no control.
    Thanks in advance !
    Mark

    You should just use boolean instead of Boolean;
    class BBean
    boolean secure;
    public boolean getSecure() {...}
    <h:outputText value="#{somebean.whatever}" rendered="#{bBean.secure == false}" />

  • Numeric Integration of positive and negative values in the same signal

    Hello.. I need to perform an evaluation of Area Under Curve of my signal, but it contains positive and negative values. I am using the "Numeric Integration" function, but the result expressed by my VI represent: AREA OF POSITIVE VALUES - AREA OF NEGATIVE VALUES, in other words, my result represent the difference between these two areas. But I want to know the total area, the sum of positive values area and negative values area, and because both values has are "+", my final result should has "+" notation.
    For example:
    Area of positive values: +45.00
    Area of negative values: +34.00
    Total area: +79.00
    How do I modify my VI to obtain the total area value?
    I try to split my values in two parts:
    A) only the positive and zero values
    B) only the negative values
    I calculated the areas of both splits and performed an sum of them, but the final result does not matches with total area (computed by another software to know the real value)
    I attached an picture of my VI
    Thank you

    Use an event structure for the boolean value changed. You also did not follow Lynn's advice to insert an "absolute value". It would really simplify everything.
    Here's how it would look in a newer version of LabVIEW (your icons look different because you have an older version. The functions are the similar).
    This is just a draft and the program needs to be improved. Use a state machine with events for read file and another for value change on the sampling rate. Place the data array in a shift so you can change the sampling rate without the need to re-read the file. Modify as needed.
    Some important pointers in general:
    There is NO need to constantly spin the loop every nanosecond. The only time the loop needs to spin if if one of the inputs has changed.
    If you don't use an event structure, all UI loops need a wait to conserve CPU.
    Never (almost never) use "switch until released". Typically you want to use "latch when released" which makes the terminal true exactly once until the value is read and it will revert to false after that. "switch until released acts like a doorbell, so if it werent for the file dialog, you would execute the case several times in a row.
    You don't need to get the array size and wire N of the FOR loop if you are autoindexing. LabVIEW will spin the loop until it runs out of elements automatically.
    There is an atomic operation for "negate" in the numeric palette. No need to multiply with a "-1" diagram constant.
    There is an atomic operation for ">=0" in the comparison palette. No need to compare with a "0" diagram constant.
    Use a stop button on the loop termination.
    Everything that only needs to be done once after the file is read (e.g. you inner loop, etc. also belongs inside the case structure. Right?
    In general, you would make things much easier for us if you would attach your actual live VI instead of dead images.

  • Boolean Values in CALL TRANSFORMATION id ?

    Hi,
    I have Boolean values of the XSDBOOLEAN Domain, so ABAP->XML "id" transformation returns  "True" and "False" for these values. What I need are "X" and " " respectively.
    The questions is: can I use the modified transformation "id" to replace the "True" and "False" with "X" and " ", and how the modified transformation should look like?
    Thanks, Srdjan

    I couldn't find domain XSDBOOLEAN in our system, however you should use the values defined in the Value range tab.

  • Changing a boolean value based on two buttons

    I know that this is a ridiculously simple question, but I've been having trouble with it.
    How would you set a boolean value based on the input from two other boolean values? Essentially what I want, in pseudocode, is this:
    boolA = true
    if (boolB)
         boolA = false
    if (boolC)
         boolA = true
    It should be really simple to do, but I can't figure it out. The problem is getting it to stay false, for example, after boolB goes back to false, and not just to have it only momentarily go to false. I want it to stay false until boolC goes to true, regardless of what boolB does after that. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Logan Williams

    I would say implies is close to what was asked for.  However, the only issue is that for the case where both B and C are false, the logic shows that there is no change to A.  It is initially True, but if it happens to be False because of further changes, there is nothing in the If statements to change the logic.  And that is what is asked for.  That the Result stays False even when B goes back to False.  But the Implies function says that  F and F must be True.
    As described
    B         C         Result A
    T          T          T (because C is evaluated 2nd)
    T          F          F
    F          T          T
    F          F          x (initially T, but the code shown and what is asked for is actually no change from previous state)
       Implies Truth Table
    B         C         Result A
    T          T          T
    T          F          F
    F          T          T
    F          F          T
