Desc in SQL Developer behaves  slightly differently than desc in SQLPlus

Hi All,
Didn't see any posts for this, so I wanted to bring it up here.
We use nls_length_semantics=char, and therefore our varchar2 cols routinely show up in products with the datalength as charlengthx4 or the actual bytelength for the col.
However SQLPlus desc displays the length properly and designates it as CHAR:
SQL> desc access_information;
Name     Null? Type
ENTITY_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(16 CHAR)
But desc in SQL Developer does not:
desc access_information;
ENTITY_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(64)
This is for SQL Developer MAIN-14.67
on an Oracle 10gR2 DB
Let me know if this is a bug, or if I'm misunderstanding something.
Thanks,
Tony

In addition to the above mentioned discrepancy, I've noticed that desc in SQL-Developer does not look at the appropriate schema when your session is altered.
ex. - In SQL-Developer
1. Log in with a user that owns no objects
2. alter session set current_schema = schema_with_objects;
3. desc table_in_schema_with_objects
ERROR:
ORA-04043: object table_in_schema_with_objects does not exist
ex. In SQLPlus
1. Log in with a user that owns no objects
2. alter session set current_schema = schema_with_objects;
3. desc table_in_schema_with_objects
Desc works properly
Are these 2 issues reproducible by development? Are they to be resolved in the next update?
Let me know so I can inform the user base here, and thanks,
Tony

Yes, I believe this is a bug.  I've filed one and hopefully we can get this addressed in the next public release.

  • DB2 to Oracle conversion using SQL Developer Migration Wizard - different schemas

I am performing a conversion between DB2  to Oracle 11 XE, using the SQL Developer Migration Wizard. Specifically I am trying to migrate the DB2User schema over to Oracle.
Using the migration wizard, when I pick the Oracle target connection to be the same schema ( DB2User schema ) the migration is successful and all data is converted.
However if I pick a different Oracle target connection ( say OracleUser ) , I run into issues.
Firstly , the table schema is not created. When I check the project output directory, the .out file has the following errors:
CREATE USER DB2User IDENTIFIED BY DB2User DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP
            SQL Error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
            01031. 00000 -  "insufficient privileges"
        connect DB2User/DB2User
        Error report:
        Connection Failed
        Commit
Connection created by CONNECT script command disconnected
I worked around this by manually executing the .sql in the project output directory using the OracleUser id  in the new DB.
Then I continue with the migration wizard and perform the Move Data step.
Now - the message appears as succuessful, however, when I review the Migrationlog.xml file, i see errors as follows:
    <level>SEVERE</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.MigrationLogUtil</class>
<message>Failed to disable constraints: Data Move</message>
      <key>DataMove.DISABLE_CONSTRAINTS_FAILED</key>
      <catalog>&lt;null&gt;</catalog>
      <param>Data Move</param>
      <param>oracle.dbtools.migration.workbench.core.logging.LogInfo@753f827a</param>
      <exception>
<message>java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist</message>
      <level>WARNING</level>
      <class>oracle.dbtools.migration.datamove.online.TriggerHandler</class>
      <message>ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    </message>
I think what is happening is that the wizard is attempting to perform the 'move data' process using the DB2User id.
How do I tell the wizard that the target schema is different than my source schema.
My requirement is that I need to be able to migrate the DB2User schema to different schemas in the same Oracle database
( since we will have multiple test environments under the same database ) .
    Thanks in advance .
    K.

Perhaps the following from the SQL Developer documentation is helpful for you:
    Command-Line Interface for Migration
As an alternative to using the SQL Developer graphical interface for migration operations, you can use the migration batch file (Windows) or shell script (Linux) on the operating system command line. These files are located in the sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin folder or sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin directory under the location where you installed SQL Developer.
migration.bat or migration.sh accepts these commands: capture, convert, datamove, delcaptured, delconn, delconverted, driver, generate, guide, help, idmap, info, init, lscaptured, lsconn, lsconverted, mkconn, qm, runsql, and scan. For information about the syntax and options, start by running migration without any parameters at the system command prompt. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration
You can use the -help option for information about one or more actions. For the most detailed information, including some examples, use the -help=guide option. For example:
    C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin>migration -help=guide

  • WAP4410N problems, slightly different than the previous ones

    Hello,
I've just purchased a WAP4410N-E V02 for home use and I'm experiencing some strange problems.  Whenever the device is close to other electrical devices, it slows down until it eventually grinds to a halt, sometimes requiring a power cycle.  I can ping the AP, or my gateway (over the wireless connection), and the ping times go from 1-20ms to 15,000ms+.  After a certain amount of time, the wireless connection completely dies and the AP isn't even reachable over the wired network (no ping, no http).
By close, I mean like 1m away in some cases, or less in other cases.  Since this is for home use, it's a bit of a problem, as my placement options are quite limited.  Here are the 2 scenarios:
    1) close to my vdsl modem/router
the wireless-G connection on the router is turned off.
    Distance is 1m.
The AP is plugged into the router.
This setup is completely unusable, as it instantly becomes slow.  If I pull it away about 2m and place the AP on the floor, it works fine.
    2) plugged into my switch close to the tv/pvr (tv over ip)
    Distance is up to 2m.
When the tv is on by itself, no problem
When the pvr is on, the AP starts becoming unstable.
If I turn the pvr off, it recovers (unless I left it on long enough, then it gets stuck for good and never recovers).
So I can really reproduce these problems now.  At first I thought it was completely random and I was trying all sorts of different ideas like changing channels, changing ssid settings, etc..
Am I really putting this device in situations where it wasn't designed to work?  Just because it's a small business device, I don't see why it shouldn't work 1m away from a home VDSL modem, or 2m away from a tv tuner/pvr.  I can't really mount it high up on the wall, away from all interference because it wouldn't look so nice.  I guess home use has different priorities.
Also, seeing how other people have certain unexplainable problems with these devices, could it be related?  I don't know how their setups are, but I can say that the behaviour is similar to other posts that I've read.
What is the proper way to proceed with this problem?  Do I just return it to the store?  Do I need an RMA?  Or does Cisco have some recommendations that I can try so I don't have to return it?  I'm quite disappointed that I've lost a whole day trying to diagnose these issues.  I was hoping that if I spend a bit more money on a business-grade product, I would save time with trying to figure out the quirks of most home products, but it seems to be the opposite in this case.
As a note, I have done the following, as per previous posts regarding this AP:
    - using A/C adapter, not POE
    - Hardware reset
    - Install firmware 2.0.4.2
    - set wired port to 100mbps
    - single SSID, WPA2-Personal, 11 character a-z key
    - B/G/N Mixed,
    - Channel 11 (tried Auto as well)
    - Key renewal 36000
    - disabled connection control
    - 802.11d disabled, Germany, 20MHz bandwidth

See all the settings available in XLD and that will give you an idea as to how ripping could potentially vary between rippers. I don't know the details of how iTunes works but error detection has a lot of different settings with XLD.  iTunes does some too, but I don't think the details are publicly available for comparison.
It may not only vary with the rip settings but also with the encode settings if you are using mp3 or AAC.

  • Can anyone help me modify a fully functional SWF file to behave slightly differently?

I have a working SWF file which I used a free decompiler to get to the ActionScript of.  I do not know Actionscript, but I know enough other languages to have a vague understanding of whats going on.  I am not certain if this is Actionscript 1 or 2 or 3 honestly so I simply posted here.  The main thing I need to understand is the order in which code is executed within Actionscript.  What I'm trying to do is make a telnet applet which initializes with a giant connect button simply connect by default upon initializing and then if the connection is lost of disconnected function as normal and display the connect button again.  I believe this should be a fairly simply modification just moving a few lines of code around, I just do not have a good grasp on ActionScript.  If someone out there is willing to work briefly on this with me, you would have my gratitude greatly, or even any brief explanation anyone can offer as to what I may want to look into. It looks similar to java, but I just am not sure on too much to want to try to tackle this blindly.

  • Yosemite upgrade causes Win7 Bootcamp to BSOD (slightly different than others)

Like others I no longer have a working Win7 Bootcamp partition. Unlike others I still see Windows 7 when I hold ALT booting up the machine. It starts to load windows then I get blue screen of death (unmountable boot volume) and reboots. I can get to the Win7 repair but when it looks for a Windows installation to repair it does not see any.
I can also still see files in that partition in Finder, I'm just really hoping I can get back into the system since I have so many important things installed. I've seen Loner T helping many people and read lots of posts, but I just figured I'd throw my hat in and hope there's a fix for me.

  • SQL developer not showing compiler warnings

I'm just testing out the new compiler warning contained in 11g related to the "when others" exception handler when it does not have a subsequent raise or raise_application_error.
in SQL plus, this works fine:

it must be something I'm doing wrong, above, I was running under windows 7 pointing at the version above.
I just tried it under an Enterprise Linux pointing at
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production

NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production                                           and I get exactly the same script output and no compiler window....
actually...... if I go into a procedure window from the schema browser and compile it there, then I get the correct warning messages..... the problem is I mostly develop from .sql files extracted from source control rather than directly from the schema browser, I just want the sql worksheet to be able to show me the same compiler log window.....

  • SQL developer online data move

    Hi,
I am using SQL developer 2.1 to migrate tables from Sybase 12 database to oracle 11g.
I have used online data move option for moving sybase data into oracle tables, but even after data move is completed not all rows have been moved from sybase tables to corresponding oracle tables. Some rows are missing but still there is no error messege being displyed, how to find out what's going wrong.
Is there any log file that is being generated in case of oracle sql developer?
    Please help me with this.

    Hi Mandark,
This is a weakness of SQL Developers online datamove.
It doesn't have logging and you cannot tweak the data move itself.
It very basic SELECT * FROM -> INSERT INTO ... under the covers.
If some rows are failing to be inserted, but some rows are being inserted, in the same table.
Then my guess is that the data in some rows doesn't "fit" into the target row/column.
And the datatype mapping used to convert the tables/columns was not good enough.
Ex: Sybase column of VARCHAR(10000) mapped to Oracle VARCHAR2(4000).
Some data which is greater than 4000 chars.
Which causes the insert to fail for those rows with >4000 chars. But ok for other rows.
The solution (in this example) is to map Sybase VARCHAR(100000) to Oracle CLOB.
You can specify the data type mapping in the Convert page of the migration wizard.
Another workaround is to use Copy To Oracle.
    http://dermotoneill.blogspot.com/2010/11/copy-to-oracle.html
This is a very simple data move feature again. But it works slightly differently than Online Data Move.
It has no logging or tweaking either, but may do the job "online" for you.
You should temporarily turn off any check constraints, triggers, keys on each table you want to move data with using this method.
If all those fail, then the only sure fire way would be to use Offline Data Move.
    Regards,
    Dermot

  • Setting/using a variable in a package in SQL Developer

The 10g db I'm working with has a package that contains a variable and routines to set and get the value of the variable. The variable is used in a number of views to tailor data displayed according to the variable value. This all works well in applications, which set the variable after a connection is opened and then issue queries against the views, and then close the connection.
This also works well in Toad - I can open Toad, run a package routine to set the value and then open views (or run queries against views) in Toad to see how different variable values effect the data displayed. The package variable maintains its value so long as Toad is open, which seems to imply that Toad keeps a connection open.
But I can't use SQL Developer in the same way. I can run the SET routine, but it has no effect in on views subsequently run. When running the SET routine, setting the value to 1, the output is:
Connecting to the database HERC DB.
    Process exited.
Disconnecting from the database HERC DB.
I can then run the GET routine, but the value of the variable is always zero:
Connecting to the database HERC DB.
    v_Return = 0
    Process exited.
Disconnecting from the database HERC DB.
The implication seems to be that a connection is made, the routine is run and then the connection is closed. The closing of the connection resets the variable. Is there some way I can have SQL Developer behave like Toad, such that the package variable value is maintained for my SQL Developer session? I've looked at connection roperties and application preferences, but I've not seen anything that seems to be related keeping a connection open.
BTW, I have tried the "connection startup script", but to no avail. Perhaps I've doen this improperly; the script simply attempts to invoke the package set routine, like so: myPkg.set_identity(1)
    Thanks.

When running stored PL/SQL through the IDE context node or editor, indeed a new session is opened and consequently closed on completion after committing. Although great for having the IDE free to continue working, it does have its drawbacks when you want variables to persist and changes to be visible in the IDE before committing.
To prevent the new session and the commit, just call the PL/SQL from a worksheet (in a call, query or anonymous block).
The startup script should work in that respect, but make sure to wrap your call in an anonymous block, else you'll get a syntax error.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • SQL Developer - problems with the Data Modeller part

    Hi SQL Developer users,
I can open the Data Modeler pane, but I can't insert any object into the logical model or into the relational model. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Do I need specific privileges to the database, or do I need to install SQL Developer in a different way?
    Thanks,
    Csisz

    Hi Csisz,
as Ivaylo wrote - it's Data Modeler Viewer into SQL Developer.
I can't insert any object into the logical model or into the relational modelYou can drag tables from SQL Developer browser and drop them on relational model diagram. If you keep Ctrl key pressed then all child tables also will be imported and shown on diagram.

  • Need java 1.6.0_4 for SQL developer 3.2 64bit, Win 7

    Hi All
    I Need java 1.6.0_4 for SQL developer 3.2 64bit, Win 7.
SQL developer behaves weirdly sometimes. It frequently drops connection, doesn;t show compile button when i open a procedure and certain other things.... I found ver 3.0 quiet stable.
I think it may be because of my incorrect java version (1.6.0). Please tell me how can I get this Java version 1.6.0_4. I checked oracle.com, version 35 is available there....
Can you please help me by providing this ?
    Thanks

    >
No - we can't provide it. You have to download it yourself. If you have trouble with the download you should report the problem to Oracle.
    >

    >
If you checked at the Java SE Downloads page
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
Then you should have seen the 'Previous Releases' link jus above the download Icons near the top of the page.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u1-oth-JPR
All of the available prior versions are available at that link.
But I strongly suggest you heed the advice given to use the latest 1.6 version of Java available unless you have a very good reason not to.

  • SQL Developer Show Grants

    Hi!
I use SQL Developer and also Toad to connect to my Oracle 10.2 Database.
Maybe since Oracle 10 (and / or maybe InstanceClient) I cannot see the Grants in the SQL Developer of other users than the one I'm connecting.
If I use Toad I have no Problems to see them.
What could be the reason for this?
I know I can use the View SYS dba_tab_privs to show me all Grants I want to know (yes I have access to it).
If I use all_tab_privs or user_tab_privs I see only my own grants. -> I think thats the problem.
How can I switch SQL Developer to use the dba_tab_privs view to show me the Grants / Privileges on the Table I selected
    Greetings

Do better? What am I supposed to do better at? Describing how to get a ref cursor out?
No, I don't claim to be able to do that better. That's not my issue.
My issue is that the post is about 95% opinion, most of it rather ... well...
and there's 5% useful. In that case, I'd copy the 5% and post it directly, rather than posting a link.
    Or do better at ...
there's a long comment on the blog.

  • Powerpoint renders slides slightly differently on different Macs

I have again this weird problem with Powerpoint.
Sometimes, slides look differently on different machines.
The difference is not very large, but definitely noticeable, in particular, if there are other objects on the slide besides the text.
    For an example please see
    1. (MacBookPro)
    PDF: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmacbook.pdf
    PNG: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmacbook.png
    2. (Modbook)
    PDF: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmodbook.pdf
    PNG: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmodbook.png
The effect is most pronounced on the first line of bullet 2. (The "R^d" thing is an image.)
I created the PDFs using the print command in Powerpoint and then saving to PDF.
I created the PNG taking a screenshot.
As you can see, there are two problems:
    1.
When I print the slide on the MacBook to PDF, the layout of the text is slightly different than on screen.
    2.
The layout of the text looks different on both machines.
Both machines run Mac OS 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
The powerpoint versions on both machines are identical and up-to-date (12.2.3).
The powerpoint files on both machines are identical (just copied).
I use an in-house font on the slides, which is StoneSansITC; I copied the font files from one machine to the other; they all reside in ~/Library/Fonts, and this is the only place where these font files are located.
I have checked with 'pdffonts' and it seems to me that the Stone fonts are indeed correctly embedded in the PDFs. Here is the output of pdffonts:
    % pdffonts pptonmodbook.pdf
name type emb sub uni object ID
    NNCXIS+Symbol TrueType yes yes yes 24 0
    TYRNZE+Helvetica TrueType yes yes yes 21 0
    RTAEGG+MSBM10 Type 1 yes yes no 26 0
    ZXGVHI+StoneSansITCStd-Medium Type 1C yes yes no 8 0
    ZXGVHI+StoneSansITCStd-Medium Type 1C yes yes yes 17 0
    RTAEGG+CMSSI8 Type 1 yes yes no 27 0
    ZJTMTS+StoneSansITCStd-MediumItalic Type 1C yes yes no 22 0
    JHAIES+Wingdings TrueType yes yes yes 19 0
With pptonmacbook.pdf, pdffonts yields very similar output.
In Powerpoint, I have checked File -> Properties -> Contents, and the list under "Fonts Used" shows the StoneSansITC fonts alright.
The compatibility report in Powerpoint does not report any issues with fonts (only a few warnings about animations, movies, and "some shapes cannot be changed in earlier versions ..").
Does anyone have an idea how I could resolve this differences in rendering?
All hints, suggestions, and insights will be highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

  • SQLPLUS commands in SQL Developer

We are using 11g with Sql Developer. We have some script such as healthcheck etc provided by oracle support, which has SQLPLUS commands in it.
We are not able to run those in SQL Developer. We are getting errors.
Are there any way, we could invoke SQLPLUS shell within SQL Developer?
    Thanks in helping.

    Hi qwe16235
SQLPLUS command failed - not enough arguments
line 36: SQLPLUS Command Skipped: set lines 300
line 37: SQLPLUS Command Skipped: set pages 999
These are formatting commands we do not do yet.
The other command seems like an error in the middle of a PL/SQL block which we should have covered, just the start of it is not enough to know what the error is.
An example of bad pl/sql error reporting:
    input:
show parameter error <-------------- Dummy command so the plsql block does not begin at 1
    begin <----------------starting at line 3
broken plsql; <------------- bad plsql at line (start)3+(from ora error)2 = 5 (should be 4 - must be one off)
    end;
    output:
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    sec_protocol_error_further_action string CONTINUE
    sec_protocol_error_trace_action string TRACE
Error starting at line 3 in command:
    begin
    broken plsql;
    end;
    Error report:
    ORA-06550: line 2, column 8:
PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "PLSQL" when expecting one of the following:
    := . ( @ % ;
The symbol ":=" was substituted for "PLSQL" to continue.
