Yosemite upgrade causes Win7 Bootcamp to BSOD (slightly different than others)

Like others I no longer have a working Win7 Bootcamp partition. Unlike others I still see Windows 7 when I hold ALT booting up the machine. It starts to load windows then I get blue screen of death (unmountable boot volume) and reboots. I can get to the Win7 repair but when it looks for a Windows installation to repair it does not see any.
I can also still see files in that partition in Finder, I'm just really hoping I can get back into the system since I have so many important things installed. I've seen Loner T helping many people and read lots of posts, but I just figured I'd throw my hat in and hope there's a fix for me.
Here's the output of all the commands that Loner recommends to all first:

I have test disk installed, what command would be useful for me to start with? Thanks so much, I know you guys are so busy with your own Bootcamp issues but I've been reading for a couple days and can't seem to find my exact issue.

Does this mean my partition may be bootable again?? Thanks as always Loner!

  • Yosemite upgrade causing issues with Adobe Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
Over the last weekend I upgraded my mid-2010 iMac to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and it seems to have caused an error with Adobe Premiere Elements 10.
Prior to upgrading I was working on a project without issue. Now, when I try to open it I get an error "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements".
I have tried other projects and some open without issue whilst others also present the same error. The difference between the projects appears to be whether a DVD menu has been selected. If the project has one - it fails to open.
It seems strange that the OS would affect software in this way but that is all that has been changed.
If someone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Yosemite upgrade causing strange screensaver display

I did the free download and upgrade to Yosemite and it seems ok except for the screensaver screen.  It has a very strange pixelated screen which I can't seem to fix.  I even went into display and chose on of the screensaver but still I get this awful screen display which even makes it hard to see where the password to unlock screen is, to type it in or to view it.
Does anyone have this problem and if so, did anyone fix it?  If so can you tell me how to fix it as it's not good and I don't like it at all.  Each screen looks different but it's all basically the same pixelated mess.

    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • IPod Not recognized by XP, Slightly different from others

I am having a similiar problem to many peoples. Early this morning I connected my iPod and there were no problems, later in the day I tried and for no apparent reason XP will not recognize it. Not only this but it will also not charge when connected to the computer. Thinking it was just my iPod, I tried the other iPod in my house on a different profile with a different library and the same problem occured.
I have tried restarting the computer, resetting the ipod, uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, and I also tried to use the restore feature but since XP will not recognize the iPod, neither will the updater.
I do not believe it is the USB cable or ports I am using because when I connect the USB to the iPod the iPod will turn on. I could very easily be wrong but I really don't think it is the USB.
I have not loaded the latest updater, but I do have the latest iTunes. So, it must be that in the span of about ten hours my computer malfunctioned, causing it to simply not read iPods?
Any help and/or solutions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for reading.

    Matt,
Can you try to back date your XP by doing with the system store
If not works then put your iPod in Disk Mode and hope it got mount

  • Desc in SQL Developer behaves  slightly differently than desc in SQLPlus

    Hi All,
Didn't see any posts for this, so I wanted to bring it up here.
We use nls_length_semantics=char, and therefore our varchar2 cols routinely show up in products with the datalength as charlengthx4 or the actual bytelength for the col.
However SQLPlus desc displays the length properly and designates it as CHAR:
    SQL> desc access_information;
    Name     Null? Type
    ENTITY_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(16 CHAR)
But desc in SQL Developer does not:
    desc access_information;
    ENTITY_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(64)
This is for SQL Developer MAIN-14.67
    on an Oracle 10gR2 DB
Let me know if this is a bug, or if I'm misunderstanding something.
    Thanks,
    Tony

In addition to the above mentioned discrepancy, I've noticed that desc in SQL-Developer does not look at the appropriate schema when your session is altered.
    ex. - In SQL-Developer
    1. Log in with a user that owns no objects
    2. alter session set current_schema = schema_with_objects;
    3. desc table_in_schema_with_objects
    ERROR:
ORA-04043: object table_in_schema_with_objects does not exist
    ex. In SQLPlus
    1. Log in with a user that owns no objects
    2. alter session set current_schema = schema_with_objects;
    3. desc table_in_schema_with_objects
    Desc works properly
Are these 2 issues reproducible by development? Are they to be resolved in the next update?
Let me know so I can inform the user base here, and thanks,
    Tony

  • WAP4410N problems, slightly different than the previous ones

    Hello,
I've just purchased a WAP4410N-E V02 for home use and I'm experiencing some strange problems.  Whenever the device is close to other electrical devices, it slows down until it eventually grinds to a halt, sometimes requiring a power cycle.  I can ping the AP, or my gateway (over the wireless connection), and the ping times go from 1-20ms to 15,000ms+.  After a certain amount of time, the wireless connection completely dies and the AP isn't even reachable over the wired network (no ping, no http).
By close, I mean like 1m away in some cases, or less in other cases.  Since this is for home use, it's a bit of a problem, as my placement options are quite limited.  Here are the 2 scenarios:
    1) close to my vdsl modem/router
the wireless-G connection on the router is turned off.
    Distance is 1m.
The AP is plugged into the router.
This setup is completely unusable, as it instantly becomes slow.  If I pull it away about 2m and place the AP on the floor, it works fine.
    2) plugged into my switch close to the tv/pvr (tv over ip)
    Distance is up to 2m.
When the tv is on by itself, no problem
When the pvr is on, the AP starts becoming unstable.
If I turn the pvr off, it recovers (unless I left it on long enough, then it gets stuck for good and never recovers).
So I can really reproduce these problems now.  At first I thought it was completely random and I was trying all sorts of different ideas like changing channels, changing ssid settings, etc..
Am I really putting this device in situations where it wasn't designed to work?  Just because it's a small business device, I don't see why it shouldn't work 1m away from a home VDSL modem, or 2m away from a tv tuner/pvr.  I can't really mount it high up on the wall, away from all interference because it wouldn't look so nice.  I guess home use has different priorities.
Also, seeing how other people have certain unexplainable problems with these devices, could it be related?  I don't know how their setups are, but I can say that the behaviour is similar to other posts that I've read.
What is the proper way to proceed with this problem?  Do I just return it to the store?  Do I need an RMA?  Or does Cisco have some recommendations that I can try so I don't have to return it?  I'm quite disappointed that I've lost a whole day trying to diagnose these issues.  I was hoping that if I spend a bit more money on a business-grade product, I would save time with trying to figure out the quirks of most home products, but it seems to be the opposite in this case.
As a note, I have done the following, as per previous posts regarding this AP:
    - using A/C adapter, not POE
    - Hardware reset
    - Install firmware 2.0.4.2
    - set wired port to 100mbps
    - single SSID, WPA2-Personal, 11 character a-z key
    - B/G/N Mixed,
    - Channel 11 (tried Auto as well)
    - Key renewal 36000
    - disabled connection control
    - 802.11d disabled, Germany, 20MHz bandwidth

See all the settings available in XLD and that will give you an idea as to how ripping could potentially vary between rippers. I don't know the details of how iTunes works but error detection has a lot of different settings with XLD.  iTunes does some too, but I don't think the details are publicly available for comparison.
It may not only vary with the rip settings but also with the encode settings if you are using mp3 or AAC.

  • IPhone 4 issue (Slightly different to others?

Ok people, just really seeing if anyone else is having the same issue.
Got an iPhone 4, now running 4.0.1, had an i4 since launch, I cannot for the life of me get 3G to work in my house.
iPhone 4 is showing as having 4 bars (with 4.0.1) and 3G symbol is displayed, when trying to connect to a website using safari i get the error "Cannot Open Page Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." Applications also are unable to get a data connection.
If I make a call, go to home screen and try (at this point, 4 bars are also displayed + 3G) my data connection works fine, I can browse the internet and running the speed test application seems to give me 3G speeds or around 1Mbps.
Now. still on the i4, If i turn 3G off, data access works. If i take my phone into work, 20 odd miles away 3G is fine.
So, to rule out the phone, apple have sent me another unit built in week 28 - same issue. (new phone, not restored) have also checked APN - idata.o2.co.uk, tried resetting network settings..
If i use my mico-sim adapter and place my sim into my 'old' 3GS, running stock 4.0.1 3G runs fine..
i Have turned every single electrical device off in the house to rule our interference... still no joy.
Extremely frustrating!... Just wondering if anyone else has seen anything similar?

When i got mine i noticed that i wasnt connecting to the 3g network (even edge doesnt work) did all the recommended steps including airport and resets and even went to AT&T and replaced my sim card. Nothing. called support, they couldn't do anything so they replaced my phone. Just got my phone a few hours ago and I'm having the same problem still. and yes, there is coverage in my area, my friend who was helping me had great 3g speeds on his 3gS phone right next to mine.

  • Powerpoint renders slides slightly differently on different Macs

I have again this weird problem with Powerpoint.
Sometimes, slides look differently on different machines.
The difference is not very large, but definitely noticeable, in particular, if there are other objects on the slide besides the text.
    For an example please see
    1. (MacBookPro)
    PDF: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmacbook.pdf
    PNG: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmacbook.png
    2. (Modbook)
    PDF: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmodbook.pdf
    PNG: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/pptonmodbook.png
The effect is most pronounced on the first line of bullet 2. (The "R^d" thing is an image.)
I created the PDFs using the print command in Powerpoint and then saving to PDF.
I created the PNG taking a screenshot.
As you can see, there are two problems:
    1.
When I print the slide on the MacBook to PDF, the layout of the text is slightly different than on screen.
    2.
The layout of the text looks different on both machines.
Both machines run Mac OS 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard).
The powerpoint versions on both machines are identical and up-to-date (12.2.3).
The powerpoint files on both machines are identical (just copied).
I use an in-house font on the slides, which is StoneSansITC; I copied the font files from one machine to the other; they all reside in ~/Library/Fonts, and this is the only place where these font files are located.
I have checked with 'pdffonts' and it seems to me that the Stone fonts are indeed correctly embedded in the PDFs. Here is the output of pdffonts:
    % pdffonts pptonmodbook.pdf
name type emb sub uni object ID
    NNCXIS+Symbol TrueType yes yes yes 24 0
    TYRNZE+Helvetica TrueType yes yes yes 21 0
    RTAEGG+MSBM10 Type 1 yes yes no 26 0
    ZXGVHI+StoneSansITCStd-Medium Type 1C yes yes no 8 0
    ZXGVHI+StoneSansITCStd-Medium Type 1C yes yes yes 17 0
    RTAEGG+CMSSI8 Type 1 yes yes no 27 0
    ZJTMTS+StoneSansITCStd-MediumItalic Type 1C yes yes no 22 0
    JHAIES+Wingdings TrueType yes yes yes 19 0
With pptonmacbook.pdf, pdffonts yields very similar output.
In Powerpoint, I have checked File -> Properties -> Contents, and the list under "Fonts Used" shows the StoneSansITC fonts alright.
The compatibility report in Powerpoint does not report any issues with fonts (only a few warnings about animations, movies, and "some shapes cannot be changed in earlier versions ..").
Does anyone have an idea how I could resolve this differences in rendering?
All hints, suggestions, and insights will be highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

  • Another Win7 Bootcamp failure with Yosemite upgrade (missing 34 GB)

I've been reading what others have been doing per Loner T's instructions, but I'm a bit unclear on the ultimate goal, particularly when using testdisk and looking for "familiar files."  I'm hoping for some instructions on how to recover my Win7 partition.  I'm running a testdisk deeper search, but again I'm not sure what I'm looking for in that program or if I've followed the correct selections.  Here are the outputs from the 4 commands that Loner T has said to provide...
Huge thanks in advance for any help.

So here's the results of a Quick Search:
    Inside the MS Data selection:
The top MS Data and the bottom one both show "Can't open filesystem" when I use P: list files, but the middle one (size = 191678457) has that System Volume Information file you mentioned in the thread, along with some other recognizable file names, though there are a few key programs I had installed that I don't see, but I'm hoping they'll still be there when we recover the partition.  Here's that file highlighted, and I put red boxes around what I think are the "start" and "end," are those correct?
In the other thread, you go on to say "If this is the only MS data entry..." but I have 3 I think, so will I need to do something different than fhornedo?

  • Bootcamp partition issue after Yosemite upgrade

I've installed bootcamp on my mac.  Later on I needed more space on my bootcamp partition and used some method to shrink the mac partition and increase the bootcamp partition.  This method worked fine until I did a Yosemite upgrade today.  Now I see that my bootcamp partition is gone and has reverted to it's original size.  Below is a screenshot of disk utility and outputs of the commands wanted.  I need help in recovering my bootcamp partition.  Thank you very much.

  • Will upgrading from OSX Snow Lepoard to OSX Yosemite remove my Windows Bootcamp Partition?

Hello guys, so i have a question.
I am currently running OSX Snow Leopard, and i want to upgrade to OSX Yosemite, but i'm scared that upgrading to Yosemite will erase my Bootcamp partition.
so, Will upgrading to Yosemite kill the partition? or will it save it, so that after Yosemite is installed, i can still dual boot into Windows 7?
    Thanks
    !Mister_Meh

Also backup your OS X volume.
Windows has built-in backup software. You could also try WinClone X.

Have you used any tools to resize your Windows partition at any time prior to the Yosemite upgrade?
Here is a reference thread that you can follow - Missing Bootcamp Partition (with pastes!).
You are in Testdisk Quick Search, you will need to run Deeper Search to find your lost 'NTFS' partition.

  • Bootcamp Partially Functional after Yosemite Upgrade

    Mac Mini, Mid2010, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD.
    Had Snow Leopard, Win7 x64.
Had 3 main partitions, OS X, Windows (C: nfts), Data (D: ntfs)
After upgrading to Yosemite, my situation is a bit different that the other threads I've read on this forum.  OS X boots fine.  Both Windows partitions are visible in Finder (read only) and are browseable.
Am able to reboot into Windows as well.  Loads windows, able to logon, then problems start to become apparent.  Even though windows obviously booted from C:, neither C nor D are available.  Attempting to run Explorer results in "Server Execution Failed" errors.  Yes, task bar is visible, so it would seem that even though Explorer is technically running, I'm unable to launch explorer windows.
Meanwhile, back in OS X Land:
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *240.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI EFI                     209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS OSX                     27.5 GB    disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
4:       Microsoft Basic Data WINDOWS                 80.0 GB    disk0s4
5:       Microsoft Basic Data DATA                    131.7 GB   disk0s5
I have dl'ed test disk and gdisk and am ready to do cl work, but since the situation is a bit different than the other posts, was hoping to get confirmation about path forward before I jack things up worse than they already are.
I will say that I don't remember having that Recovery Partition there on my Snow Leopard install.  Am thinking that perhaps the Yosemite installer inserted that (taking space from one of the other partitions), then shifted the windows partitions out further on the disk.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.  Seems like having windows bootable at least makes this a bit less egregious than some of the other posts I've read.
    Thanks,

  • Too slow after Yosemite upgrade [info]

    Hello fellows,
Right After upgrading to Yosemite I started facing an extremely delay almost in everything which I did not face at all before upgrading where they were times that I could use at the same time Chrome, Adobe Photoshop, Word, VMware Machine (Windows7) with insignificant delays:
On booting a white loading bar appears which takes too long before it loads OSX.
Almost in every action I take, I see the beachball spinning for too long.
Sometimes (most of the times) even typing delays a bit and the mouse buttons actions have a remarkable to extreme delay. (No battery or bluetooth problems)
I tried to take some actions like these ones: http://www.hightechdad.com/2014/10/23/13-tips-optimize-mac-yosemite-installation %20/  & http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/24/speed-up-os-x-yosemite-mac/
    I used CleanMyMac 2
The general feeling is like having a machine of 90's trying to run an OS designed in 10's.
More or less my daily usage of applications includes Chrome, Safari, Skype & Microsoft Office. Nothing too heavy most of the time.
I include EtreCheck report in case it might help:
    Problem description:
Everything goes slower after upgrading to Yosemite. Also at booting it shows a white loading bar which needs too much time before it initiates OSX.

Arthur thank you for your response.
I strongly doubt that CleanMyMac 2 did something bad since I installed it only for this reason and that was today after a week of upgrade, I never had it or knew it before. Also could not do much since I had the demo edition.
I had the same background processes before upgrading (most of them I need them, except -occasionaly - Flip4mac,Paragon,Akamai)
Either way there was nothing new installed after upgrading that might caused the issues, so I will wait for other suggestions before doing something more dramatic like reinstalling the OSX from beginning.
