Deserializing a file not serailized by Java

Hello All,
I am trying to deserialize and read a file which has been previously serialized using VC++. Is there a way to read a file in Java, serialized by VC++. When i read using ObjectInputStream, exception is thrown (StreamCorruptedException). The file structure of the serialized file is as below:
PC Records(Array)
ObjectRecord
Name;(string)
SecurityLevel;(unsigned char)
SecurityGroup;(string)
ScanTime;(unsigned char)
ElementNum;(int)
PCDevice;(unsigned char)
m_SerNum[5];(unsigned char)
m_DeviceChanCount; (unsigned char)
m_ModelID; (unsigned char)
m_ChanNum; (unsigned char)
m_LastBlock; (unsigned short)
m_ScanTime; (unsigned char)
m_Owner; (unsigned char)
m_Gain; (unsigned char)
PCPath;(string)
m_PCName;(string)
a; (unsigned char)
b; (unsigned char)
could somebody give me a hint to deserialize and read this file using Java. Any help and sample source code is greatly appreciated.

Hello All,
Thanks for your comments. When the file is read using RandomAccessFile and data is read into a byte array, how do u find out how many arrays are present inside and read them accordingly (using the foll format):
PC Records(Array)
ObjectRecord
Name;(string)
SecurityLevel;(unsigned char)
SecurityGroup;(string)
ScanTime;(unsigned char)
ElementNum;(int)
public class Temp {
static FileInputStream inFile;
static DataInputStream inData;
public static void main (String args[])
int len=0;
byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
try{
File file = new File("sample1.lmd");
inFile = new FileInputStream( file );
RandomAccessFile inData = new RandomAccessFile(file,"r");
System.out.println("File Descriptor is "+ inData.getFD());
System.out.println("File Channel is "+ inData.getChannel());
System.out.println("File Length is "+ inData.length());
System.out.println("File Pointer is "+ inData.getFilePointer());
while ((len = inFile.read(buf)) !=-1)
inData.read(buf, 0, len);
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("exception is "+e);
Thanks

    This can't be read from Java Serialization API 'cause Java Serialization API has it's on propietary format (that's one reazon why J2SE 1.4 introduced XML serialization)
    If you need to read a file serialized in VC++, you will need to implement the code to read the file in Java.
    If you only need to read the file secuentially (one record after the other loaded into memory) you can use a java.io.FileInputStream, and wrap it in a java.io.BufferInputStream to optimize reading.
    The interface java.io.DataInput have a lot of methods you can use to read the fields (read signed ints, unsigned ints, chars, bytes). You can use then java.io.DataInputStream to wrap InputStream and read this kind of fields. You have to take special care with chars and strings, 'cause they are unicode in java and probably only ASCII on the VC++ generated file. Probably strings will have to be read byte after byte until the \0 mark is reached, unless string fields have a predefined length, in this case you can read [length] bytes from the input stream and create a string from this array.
    If you need random access then you need java.io.RandomAccessFile, it also implements java.io.DataInput, so you have the methods to read ints, shorts, bytes, etc.
    UTF strings are strings using UTF encoding, so probably this method will not help much in this case.

    I did some more research and found out that method loadURLs of class MetaInfFacesConfigResourceProvider.java is throwing IOException. Is this some kind of class path issue? Please help!
    private Collection<URL> loadURLs(ServletContext context) throws IOException {
    154
    155 Set<URL> urls = new HashSet<URL>();
    156 for (Enumeration<URL> e = Util.getCurrentLoader(this).getResources(META_INF_RESOURCES); e.hasMoreElements();) {
    157 urls.add(e.nextElement());
    158 }
    159 urls.addAll(Arrays.asList(Classpath.search("META-INF/", ".faces-config.xml")));
    160 // special case for finding taglib files in WEB-INF/classes/META-INF
    161 Set paths = context.getResourcePaths(WEB_INF_CLASSES);
    162 if (paths != null) {
    163 for (Object path : paths) {
    164 String p = path.toString();
    165 if (p.endsWith(".taglib.xml")) {
    166 urls.add(context.getResource(p));
    167 }
    168 }
    169 }
    170 return urls;
    171
    172 }

    I did a couple of things ( gathered from various posts on OTN). I am not sure which one did the trick but the error is gone now. I am mentioning the steps that I took. Later when I have more time, I will narrow down to exactly what worked.
    1. The following was missing from my web.xml (Thanks Rene!) Added it
    <listener>
    <listener-class>com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener</listener-class>
    </listener>
    2. Removed any mention of 'Anonymous-User' from Jazn-data.xml.
    Application tab -> Secure -> Configure ADF Security -> Jazn-data.xml (source tab and removed block of code referring to anonymous user)
    Hope this will help others.

  • Javac: file not found

    I recently downloaded NetBeans 1.6 Java SE and i'm trying to learn programming. I set my path variable to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03\bin as it said somewere on Javas website. In NetBeans 1.6 this is the code i typed
    class HelloWorld {
    public static void main (String args[]) {
    System.out.println("Hello World!");
    I saved it as HelloWorld.java
    When i went in to command promt to try it i type: javac HelloWorld.java
    and i get this error messege: javac: file not found: HelloWorld.java
    What did i do wrong?

    Numerous people made suggestions in this thread. You responded asking if X was okay when X does not look like ANY of the suggestions given to you.
    So no. X is no good and I have no idea why you think resorting to random guessing is going to solve your problem. Why don't you tell us which reply you are attempting to use to solve your request so that we can make suggestions to you on how to fix the broken guesswork you posted in your previous reply?

  • Stack file that is generated does not contain any java components

    We are in process of upgrading our ecc6.0 system with ehp4. The enhancement is stuck up in configuration phase for JAVA. Though we have configured Java in solution manager the stack file that is generated does not contain any java components and so the installation is stuck up. Kindly request you to advice us on this issue .

    Though we have configured Java in solution manager the stack file that is generated does not contain any java components
    You will probably need to update Solution Manager first with a number of corrections so you can get a correctly generated stack file. Depending on your ST400 version in Solution Manager apply collective corrections from "Note 1461849 - MOpz: Collective corrections 24" or "Note 1452118 - MOpz: Collective Corrections 23". They generally deal with these kind of stack file issues.

  • Java File not Found Exceptions and other errors?

    Hello experts, an issue on our Portal has caught my attention. Every time the J2EE Engine is restarted, a large amount of errors are written on our Trace files. When looking at the trace files, I see that most errors are Java IO File not Found Exceptions. For example:
    [EXCEPTION]

    Nothing really seemed to work when trying to solve this problem, just suddenly it stopped appearing. It might have been our installation of SPS 15, since it was around that time that the error went away.

  • Ant tools: converter java card -  class file  not belonging to the package!

    Hi
    I have another problem with converter. Could you help me please again if you have the time?
    I have created a directory when I save the class files generated by javac. After That , I use convert in this way:
    <convert
    JCA="true"
    EXP="true"
    CAP="true"
    packagename="testUn/classes/testUn"
    packageaid="0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x02:0x00"
    majorminorversion="1.0"
    verbose = "true">
    <AppletNameAID
    appletname="testUn.classes.testUn.PorteAppUn"
    aid="0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x02:0x00:0x00"/>
    <classpath refid="classpath"/>
    </convert>
    Here is the answer of the computer:

  • Problem-Starting InDesign Server for use with CORBA / Java and IOR file not generated

    I'm trying to start Indesign Server cs3 for use with Corba, as per the document the server should generate the start-up message like this..
    InDesignServer -iorfile c:\ior.txt -pluginpath Server\Corba
    [server] Writing IOR to ... and it should generate the IOR file
    but I'm getting the usual start-up message and the IOR file is not generated, I hope IOR file is required for Java component interaction with IDS, kindly help me to solve this.
    Thanks in advance.

    [From Susan Doan, who is having trouble posting to the forum today}:
    It looks like the example command line in the "Intro to InDesign Server" pdf is using curly quotes instead of straight quotes. If you copy the command from the pdf and paste it in your command shell, it won't work because of the curly quotes.
    You can run the command without the quotes as Rich has said, but, as will all command lines, if your path contains a space, you will need to put quotes (straight ones!) around the path.
    Thanks,
    Ole

    Why will my java.jar file not open

    If you have a new Mac you have to download the Java program to run Java on a Mac. It no longer comes with the iOS.

  • Jws source file not found (Java client proxy)

    Hi,
    I created a web service in Workshop, and generated a Java proxy from it using the test console. I then wrote a stand-alone Java client to invoke an operation on the web service based on the workshop examples. I'm able to first get the service proxy fine.
    MyService_Impl proxy = new MyService_Impl("http://localhost:7001/MyProcesses/MyService.jws?WSDL=");
    Then, the following line fails.
    MyServiceSoap soapProxy = proxy.getMyServiceSoap();
    Error is a SoapFaultException with message "Source file MyService.jws not found". I don't know where it's looking for the file to begin with. Is there a place where I can control that?
    When I look at the WSDL in the workshop test browser, the soap:address location URL is different from the actual URL in the test browser address bar.
    I'm new to this stuff. Any ideas will help.
    Thanks

    hello folks,
    I have Windows XP home Firefox v1.0.6.
    removed old java in Add/Remove programs.
    cleared the "Temporary Internet Files" folder that contained C:\Documents and Settings\Greg\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5.
    tried to load jre-1_5_0_04-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe for the third time, and the install still hangs up.
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update Installer Information : Error 1311. Scource file not found: C:\Documents and Settings\Greg\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2XFKL4VY\je150000[1].cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

    here's the thing, I cannot surf to "Content.IE5" folder in my "Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" folder, but I can plug in the directory in the address bar of Windows Explorer & see the "Content.IE5" folder.
    I do not see "je150000[1].cab" or "je150000[1].cab" in there.
    Am I using the wrong program to fresh install Java for Firefox in XP?
    Is there something wrong with my operating system?
    monitoring this thread.....
    thanx.

  • JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path

    Hi,
    I am yet another victim of the age-old error JBO:33001 bc4j.xcfg file not found in class path, When i have my BC4JApp.jar in Tomcat Web-inf/lib directory. All the other jar files and class files in my webserver-application web-inf classes and lib directory works.
    But Tomcat server is not able to read this bc4j.xcfg file. I can see in my jar file that this bc4j.xcfg exists and in the specified package directory. still the problem persists. My BC4JApp.jar is perfectly working when i use JDeveloper. but not when i use tomcat4.0 and call a JSP using BC4JApp.jar from browser (My environment is Jdeveloper3.2, Tomcat4.0+IIS in middle tier and oracle 8i as DB, everything on windows2k)
    I have gone through almost all the threads possible that relates to this error in this form. None of them have a answer except to say "put the file in classpath". and last reply is "will fix in jDeveloper 9i. So what happens to us who are working in Jdeveloper 3.2?
    1. I have this file in my jar file.
    2. I also tried creating a seperate directory manually, with the same name as my package under web-inf/classes, web-inf/lib , just under web-inf directory and atlast under approot directory also. I tried having my package directory containing bc4j.xcfg in these folders one at a time and also tried having this directory in all these folders at the same time.
    Still no solution.
    Itz frustrating that neither proper documentation nor a right url page nor i am aware of available addressing this. page links given in above threads only gives me the wonderful page of ie's "Page cannot be displayed".
    Is there a answer to this error and my problem. If this doesn't work, then i have to all the way develop from scratch creating my jsp using JDBC calls and Stored packages etc.
    I don't want to give up on this Jdeveloper at this final moment because if this bc4j.xcfg file is found, my application will work perfectly. on these final moments, if this doesn't work, i am frightened to imagine to develop my application in standard way. Atlast, if thatz the option left,we have to do that bcos our production date is close by.
    Please can some one in this forum or Jdeveloper help me to solve this problem. I am desperate and very urgent.
    Waiting for a reply from Jdev team very much...
    ( I just posted in the other thread which is pretty old, dated backto May 2001, which was relevant to this error. Just to make sure it is noticed, I am posting it seperately too)
    Thanks

    Hi All,
    For those who are following this thread, I got a solution for this error with the help of Jdev Team.
    This solution may work, if you have deployed your application in Tomcat4.0.1. This is the environment in which I work and tested.
    As you may be aware, Tomcat ignores value in CLASSPATH variable.
    To see any files that are existing or newly deployed, it has it own way of detecting it.
    Addition information on Tomcat working, you can follow this link,
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/index.html
    Coming to point, Tomcat has got five classloaders and each classloader invoked, looks in their related directories for files in following order.
    1. /WEB-INF/classes of your web-application
    2. /WEB-INF/lib/*.jar of your web application
    3. BootStrap classes of your JVM (Tomcat's $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext)
    4. System class loader classes($CATALINA_HOME/bin/bootstrap.jar,CATALINA_HOME/lib/tools.jar)
    5. $CATALINA_HOME/common/classes
    6. $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib/*.jar
    7. $CATALINA_HOME//classes
    8. $CATALINA_HOME/lib/*.jar
    So All your individual application related files should be deployed in your application's WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib directory accordingly.
    If your application files are unpacked, they should be deployed or copied under WEB-INF/classes directory
    if the files are within a jar, they should be under WEB-INF/lib directory.
    If your Jar-files contains bc4j components, then those jar files should be deployed under WEB-INF/lib directory. Also,do the next step to copy all relavant BC4J runtime libraries under lib directory.
    IMPORTANT: Please remember to copy and paste all the required BC4j runtime libraries in the Same WEB-INF/lib directory along with your application jar files. This is the real reason which can solve this JBO:33001 to disappear. It worked for me.
    To configure your directory for tag-lib uri's, use web.xml to set the taglib-uri attribute.
    Put your web.xml and DataTags.tld in the WEB-INF directory.
    Your simple web.xml may look like as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app
    PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
    "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
         <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>
                   /webapp/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>
                   /WEB-INF/DataTags.tld
              </taglib-location>
         </taglib>
    </web-app>
    You may then modify this web.xml to suit further requirements of your application.
    Remember to stop and restart the Tomcat Server (service) by using shutdown and startup scripts after updating any jar files/class files/ JSP or source files deployed in Tomcat.
    Sometimes, only this helps even though your context's reloadable attribute is set to true in Tomcat Server's server.xml file.
    Hope this above information helps you to solve this error in Tomcat environment. My Sincere thanks once again to Juan and Jdev team for their help and efforts to solve this problem.
    Thanks
    Hari

  • File not found, Missing resource bundle

    Hi
    I have a problem in accessing files (XML and Resource bundles) in Java projects. I used to access these files in WD Java. The same piece of code does not work here.
    e.g. When I create a new file object by providing the path name I get a file not found exception. The file exists in my package and I call it this way:
    File f = new File("file.txt"); then in an input stream but it doesnt work. However in a J2EE project the same code works.
    Similarly the resouce bundle never seems to work even if I give the fully classified class name for the property file. I can access property files in WD Java with ease. I understand that the root path changes and hence the problem. How should I solve it? Is there an elegant way which makes it work in all cases? Please throw some light on the root path for these projects. Thank you.
    regards
    LNV

    You should be using
    <b>this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(filePath)</b>
    which will return you an InputStream.
    Check the JDK documentation for the respective methods in java.lang.Class and java.lang.ClassLoader.
