Design Recommendations for Evolving Business Needs

Hi All,
Over time it is feasible that business needs will evolve. This could include changing the data that is captured within business processes as well as workflows, changing core shell information, to having to reorganize the initially designed shell hierarchy.
Wanted to find out from past experiences what guidelines/best practices/considerations there could be to prevent unintentionally designing shell hierarchy, shells and business processes that are either too inflexible for change or create major effort and rework in implementing it?
Look forward to hearing any thoughts around this.
Many Thanks
Lim

I meant no disrespect on the rating.  I guess I really don't want to spend more than $300 - $400.  I need to get a larger switch since I'm at capacity for my 8 port unmanaged switch, which was why I was looking at managed switches.  Honestly, I'm really only wanting a managed (layer 3) switch so I can isolate the guest wireless with VLAN's and have POE for the 1142 AP.  If I have to spend $1,000+ to do that I should probably rethink what I'm doing.  I'm sure the 3560x and 2960XR are great switches and have a lot of capabilities, but if I'm only using a small fraction of their capabilities then it doesn't make cost sense to go that route.  If there isn't any Cisco products in my price range with the features I'm looking for, feel free to tell me that.  I'll just have to see what else is out there or like I mentioned, rethink the guest internet access.
Thanks
Josh

The only real choice is FileMaker Pro unless you are a programmer. There are other databases but they are either very light weight or something a programmer would be required to set up.

  • Cloud Computing Recommendation for Small Business

    Hey all,
So the company I currently work for is in need of a cloud service (other than iCloud) that caters to both Mac and PC.  We just need it to be multi-user and also able to upload/download files/pics/videos that can be retrieved by any user that has access.
    Thank You in advance

Dropbox is often recommended. I use it in a limited way as I'm not sure I want to have too much stuff stored in the cloud. That said, their product is easy to use and very reliable, in my experience. You can use it for free in a limited way to test it out, and then pay depending on how much storage you want:

  • Does Application Management Pack (for E-Business) need a separate license?

Hi, I am licensed for Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Release 1 Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0.
Now I want to add Application Management Pack for E-Business R11i and R12. Do I need to purchase a new license?
From my existing installation there is a link About OEM -> ... License Information; I don't see any entry for E-Business Suite management.
    Thanks,

Yes, you need to license Application Management Suite for E-Business Suite to cover the EBS management functionality. In both EM 11g and EM 12c, you need to download the plug-in for EBS. In the case of EM 12c, you can simply use the self-update feature to quickly get the EBS plug-in. For 11g, you will have to get it via e-Delivery.
Here is the OTN home page for packaged application management where you can find details and self-running demos of the EBS management functionality:

  • Recommendations for new Printer needed!

    Hi!
Like a dolt, I dropped my printer and now it doesn't want to work anymore (imagine that!) I'm overwhelmed by the choices, so I was hoping to get a recommendation for a great all-purpose color ink jet printer for under $200. I do a lot of 8 x 10 prints that I like to frame so image quality is top priority.
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Amie

Here's a link to the Canon USA page for printers. Note there are several under $200. The ones that have a little red "new" by them use an ink system that's new from Canon.
    http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=103
Here's a quote I copied from one of the individual printer descriptions:
    "A system for long-lasting photos.
The Canon ChromaLife100 system combines the PIXMA iP6220D Photo Printer's FINE print head technology and newly developed inks with select Canon photo papers, with results rivaling that of many conventional photos. These beautiful photos will also last up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album."
I think you'd be very happy with a Canon. I understand Epsons are great, but they continue to have a problem with clogging if not treated with great care, and the Canon ink cartridges (one for each color, by the way) are less expensive, too. Canon paper seems a little harder to find, but I've also seen some good buys at Office Depot recently, so I think places are now stocking more since Canon has become such a big contender in the field of consumer grade inkjet printers. (Sorry for the huge runon sentence, but I'm too lazy to edit!)

  • Cisco best practice design recommendation for adding a subscriber?

    Hello all,
We have UC Manager 7.1(3) running on a publisher and subscriber that is serving as the central voip to five (soon to be six) offices.  At what point does cisco recommend an additional subscriber be added to a cluster for call processing and load balancing?  I have been tearing through cisco's website and I am not finding this info.  I am sure it is there, just buried!
Any feedback and links to the doc would be a huge help.
    Thank you.
    Rgds,
    Vicky

    Vicky,
The answer you are looking for depends on a few things.  The most basic are:
    1) What hardware are you running? This will determine the maximum number of phones that can be registered to any one server.
    2) The answer to the first question comes into play as you total up how many phones you need to accommodate throughout the entire cluster.  In addition, you want to provide adequate redundancy as well.  Right now, you have a 1:1 model (Sub should be primary call processing agent but can failover to Publisher).  As your cluster expands, you may need to consider a 2:1 model (2 active Subs, 1 backup) or continue with a 1:1 model.
    3) If your cluster has 1000+ phones, you need to look into going with a Pub, 2 Subs, and a dedicated TFTP server.
Without getting too far into the weeds, take a look here first: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/ipcc_enterprise/srnd/7x/c7ccmsrv.pdf
Then, if you have additional questions - please ask!

  • SAP Implementation for POULTRY business need inputs

    Hi all,
I would like to know is any possible way to implement SAP to a POULTRY business covering SAP CWM (Catch Weight Management) functionalities (like, dual unit of measure, Inventory Accounting (SAP SEM) & Inventory Mgmt (LIME)) without implementing CWM.
Please let me know if any one of you worked on this kind of requirement.
    Any input is welcome.
    T&R,
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,
I'm not worked with CWM but what I know is that CWM is a business function, IS-CWM.
As I understand is that you need to activate IS-CWM in your system to get the functionalities that you want. I didn't know any other way.
You can find some information in the help:

  • Need a printer recommendation for a small office

hey folks, hoping someone might be able to suggest a recommendation for our business. We’ve had an OkiData color laser printer that’s lasted over 6 years but it’s been giving us some trouble over the last year and yesterday it stopped printing with an error we can’t resolve. Would have to bring a tech in to fix and we’d basically already decided that once this thing bit the dust we’d move on to something else. It’s time.
We are looking for something in the $200-$400 range, would consider going a little higher if it was clearly worth it. We want something that connects wireless, prints quickly and reliably in Snow Leopard over an Airport Extreme network, decent color print quality is important but doesn’t have to be photo quality (we have an HP Photosmart for that kind of stuff), and it needs to have reasonable printing cost per page. We don’t print a tremendous amount of stuff, but we probably go through 100-200 pages a day and it adds up.
Was looking at the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless and that looks like a nice unit except half the people who buy one hate it. Looks like HP quality control is lacking and if you get a good unit, great, but the odds are good you’ll get a lousy one.
Also looking at the Brother HL-3070CW, but reviews say it has a high consumable cost.
Basically, the more I look into this the more I head spins and now I've got myself wrapped around the axle and don’t know what to do.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

I would steer clear of the 500 express. Since you seem to be new to cisco products, I would use the opportunity and buy what most of your potential customers already have. Get yourself a pix/asa and a 2900 series switch as first poster suggested. If you are interested in certifications, you will need to learn the command line interface. The 500 express will do you no good as it is all gui. This is only my opinion of course. Oh, and did I see not expensive and cisco in the same sentence. :)

  • SCCM design DMZ for intranet and internet clients

    Hello,
I am looking for some design recommendations for my test environment that I would like to apply to one production environment (I already posted about this topic but I still have some questions).
I am working with 2 domains (2 forests) with no trust relationships.
    Domain A : internal
    Domain B : DMZ
From a firewall point of view, only the ports from the internal to the DMZ will be opened.
From the internet to the DMZ, only HTTPS will be opened.
Currently, I only manage the clients connected to the internal domain.
I would like to deploy a new management point in DMZ that will allow me to manage my DMZ clients (servers) and my Internet clients (laptops).
Should I use 2 management points ? Is it supported ?
    - one for the DMZ clients
    - one dedicated to my internet clients
If I use only one MP, should I allow Intranet and Internet clients ?
Should I allow my DMZ clients to communicate with the internal management point (port 80) and only use the MP in DMZ for my Internet clients.
The only documents I can find on Technet require too many ports to be opened in the firewall (From DMZ to Internal) and can't be applied to my environment.
    Thanks.

Have a look at the following blog which explains your queries comprehensively.

  • WEBI error with multi-line descriptions for a Business Layer in information Design Tool

help from Anyone on my problem described below would be greatly appreciated!
I'm working with Information design tool and am building a Business layer on top of my universe to prevent a clash of context in my query.
I want a description on my business layer that explains the need for two business layers in this universe.
The problem is entering data into the description of a business view
I need to be able to put in line breaks or the user can't even read the description of the business view.
If anyone could help I'll be very grateful.
However this is how it looks in WEBI when I start to create reports. (the original snapshot is two monitors wide by the way)
the text entered into the field is as exactly as follows:
I have Descriptions that Explain the Business Layer so they need to be typed out with paragraphs and word wrap.
Like this. Notice the line break?
Oh wait What happened? let me try another line break.
    Did that work? ...
    No maybe <\br>

  • Should I buy CC for small business or for an individual? I am a freelance graphic designer.

I am a graphic design but I work on my own. I just purchased CC for small business but now suddenly wonder if I should have purchased for an individual as I have no team.

    Hi Aridne,
You can follow the discussion: Creative cloud team vs individual membership where the difference between both the plans are clearly mentioned.
You can choose the one which suits your needs the best.

  • Which sort of HDMI cableis recommended for connecting Apple TV to aTelevision?  Does it need to be a normal HDMI cable or one which support Ethernet capabilities?

Which sort of HDMI cableis recommended for connecting Apple TV to aTelevision?  Does it need to be a normal HDMI cable? or one which supports Ethernet capabilities?

no need to go for an expensive HDMI cable as Varjak Paw rightly suggests.
Pretty much all of them come with 1.4 standard these days.
The difference in price is made by additional shielding and material used for the wire - hardly ever needed at home installations - unless you get interference from other devices.
    on the other note.
one HDMI in your TV is obviously not ideal as well as using HDMI splitter or hub - but it should work.
Also I know cases that some LG TV models do not work with Apple TV - which was confirmed by LG technical support.
Those are rare cases and i do not want to worry you at this stage.

  • Need recommendation for replacement battery on Wallstreet PB

I have a PB G3 Series Wallstreet (292MHz, family M4753) for which I need to replace the battery. Other World Computing has a replacement for $130. There is also lots of others in the $60 to $90 range. This is only for occasional use. 2 hours run time is fine. Is there any way to know if any of these less expensive batteries are OK? Thanks
    Owen

Batteries Plus is a franchise. I asked my local (West of Boston) franchise what the majority of its business was, and they pointed to the shop table where several laptop batteries were being re-built and explained they replace the cells in laptop batteries. They also had displays of coin batteries, alarm system backup batteries, and other specialty batteries.
If you got the guy who started today, he might have heard "Re-Sell old batteries" and thought you were strange. Who would buy used-up old batteries? Maybe it's just not a big business where you are, or maybe they have not signed up for the training yet.
