SAP Implementation for POULTRY business need inputs

Hi all,
I would like to know is any possible way to implement SAP to a POULTRY business covering SAP CWM (Catch Weight Management) functionalities (like, dual unit of measure, Inventory Accounting (SAP SEM) & Inventory Mgmt (LIME)) without implementing CWM.
Please let me know if any one of you worked on this kind of requirement.
Any input is welcome.
T&R,
Suresh

Hi Suresh,
I'm not worked with CWM but what I know is that CWM is a business function, IS-CWM.
As I understand is that you need to activate IS-CWM in your system to get the functionalities that you want. I didn't know any other way.
You can find some information in the help:

  • SAP implementation for the first time

    Hi,
I'm still new to SAP and need to know a few things...
Could someone help me with the answers of the following questions?
    1) What happens when a company goes through an SAP implementation for the first time.
    2) how the company goes into project mode to achieve success when implementing SAP.
    3) Project Members and what they do:
    Basis Analyst,
    Project Mgr,
    Security Analyst,
    Functional Analysts,
    Integration Manger,
    Technical Manager,
    ABAPers,
    etc.
    4) how the business gets involved to help project members get the help they need to implement SAP.

Project mode is a state of anarchy between start and End, and being in the state for the longest period woud guarantee success....once you started, there should never be a end

  • SAP Implementation for a building construction company

    Dear All ,
We are doing SAP implementation for a building construction Company .My client is responsible for building construction .What they do is initially some 10 members of this Company will create a society(Legal Entity)  .They are like promoters for company . They will put advertisement for buying of flats belonging to that society . Then some 20 members (outside) join this society by registering who are actual buyers of the Flats which society builds .
Then this society passes a resolution that my client will be the building contractor for flats . After that these 20 outside members will pay the full amount . After this Flats were built then these members will occupy flat ,then after some 4 -5 years of maintenance these 10 core members of society will hand over the society completely to secondary members and come out of the society .
Now how we will map this society in SAP  .One society can have more than one project going on . Somebody is suggesting to treat a society as a company code . But we have more than 250 societies . Is it viable . Shall we create plant for each project .

    Hi Abhijit,
Suggestion by our PS consultant for your requirement is
    >>>I would suggest that in case of PS, consider society as Business area and each building as one Project and under project WBS and if any activities floor wise consider as networks.

  • Closing down an SAP implementation for restart later

OK, this is a strange one, to me at least, but here goes...
Our company has been using an implementation of SAP for a specific project that is now coming to an end. They want to close down the system completely, but with the option of relaunching it later using the data records that currently exist, but probably imported into a new Enterprise structure. The financial data will also have to be maintained for audit and other legal purposes.
I've done several SAP implementations but never a close-down like this! From a functional, rather than a Basis/infrastructure, point of view, does anyone know what configuration or other data protection measures we will need to take to safeguard the data and facilitate a restart so much later?  Are there any other issues the company will need to consider? We use ECC6 and FICO (GL/AR/AP/Banks) with COPA, and SD MM
During the period between the closure of the SAP system and its re-initialisation in expanded form - maybe 18 months later - they will run the functions now done in SAP in an old system. Again, I have done transfers of data from legacy systems into SAP but never the reverse. Any suggestions, other than ensuring compatibility, for this process?
I strongly suspect that when they look at re-starting the use of SAP it will essentially be a new implementation from scratch, with perhaps some Customer/Vendor/Materials/FICO master data imported, but involving all the stages of the road map. However, if there is anything we can do to help whoever does that then we will. So, any suggestions or information will be welcome.
    Thank you
    David

Note also that the support provided by Nokia for a particular phonemodel does not require that there is a factory still manufacturing that model. In other words, spare parts can be provided, as well as software updates and support, without factories churning out new units.
And while Nokia has closed a couple of factories, the company still has serveral that are operational all over the world, and for which no plans for closing has been announced.

  • Design Recommendations for Evolving Business Needs

    Hi All,
Over time it is feasible that business needs will evolve. This could include changing the data that is captured within business processes as well as workflows, changing core shell information, to having to reorganize the initially designed shell hierarchy.
Wanted to find out from past experiences what guidelines/best practices/considerations there could be to prevent unintentionally designing shell hierarchy, shells and business processes that are either too inflexible for change or create major effort and rework in implementing it?
Look forward to hearing any thoughts around this.
    Many Thanks

I meant no disrespect on the rating.  I guess I really don't want to spend more than $300 - $400.  I need to get a larger switch since I'm at capacity for my 8 port unmanaged switch, which was why I was looking at managed switches.  Honestly, I'm really only wanting a managed (layer 3) switch so I can isolate the guest wireless with VLAN's and have POE for the 1142 AP.  If I have to spend $1,000+ to do that I should probably rethink what I'm doing.  I'm sure the 3560x and 2960XR are great switches and have a lot of capabilities, but if I'm only using a small fraction of their capabilities then it doesn't make cost sense to go that route.  If there isn't any Cisco products in my price range with the features I'm looking for, feel free to tell me that.  I'll just have to see what else is out there or like I mentioned, rethink the guest internet access.
    Thanks

  • Does Application Management Pack (for E-Business) need a separate license?

Hi, I am licensed for Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Release 1 Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0.
Now I want to add Application Management Pack for E-Business R11i and R12. Do I need to purchase a new license?
From my existing installation there is a link About OEM -> ... License Information; I don't see any entry for E-Business Suite management.
    Thanks,

Yes, you need to license Application Management Suite for E-Business Suite to cover the EBS management functionality. In both EM 11g and EM 12c, you need to download the plug-in for EBS. In the case of EM 12c, you can simply use the self-update feature to quickly get the EBS plug-in. For 11g, you will have to get it via e-Delivery.
Here is the OTN home page for packaged application management where you can find details and self-running demos of the EBS management functionality:

  • OPM Process Execution and OPM Standard Costing for Poultry Business

I have a business requirement from the client at their Poultry Processing plant where the client feels that the OPM Execution steps are too cumbersome until closing the batches. The client wants to maintain minimum number of batches in Production: one for Primary, one for Secondary and one for Further Processing, rather than having multiple batches based on different formulas. There are 3 main types of processing which can be briefly described as follows:
    A.) Primary Processing:
Live Birds (Ingredient) become Whole Dressed Chicken with Neck, without Neck, Liver, Heart, etc... (40 Finished Products)
e.g. Live Birds (Broiler) -> Whole Dressed Chicken with/without neck, Whole Dressed Chicken with/without neck, etc.
    B.) Secondary Processing:
Only one type of Whole Dressed Chicken (from Primary Processing) become Chicken Cuts (80 Finished Products).
e.g.[Scenario B1] Whole Dressed Chicken (Broiler) -> Drumsticks, Thighs, Wings, Breasts, Backbone, etc.
[Scenario B2] Breasts -> Filets and Deboned Breasts (2 FGs)
[Scenario B3] Thighs -> Thighs in Plain Bag
Please note that the Whole Dressed Chicken is also sold as a Finished Good as well as an Ingredient for the Secondary Processing.
    C.) Further Processing:
Chicken Cuts become 40 Finished Products
e.g Filets -> Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Fries, etc...
The client is using Standard Costing method for its OPM Financials and all the finished products (160 Products in all) are having different production cost. Please note that 1 kg of Chicken Wings is not equal to 1 Kg of Chicken Thighs. Different body parts have different costs. In order to alleviate the maintenance of multiple batches per day on the production floor, the client wishes to have minimum batches. We therefore would wish if you can confirm the below approach to be correct?
    a.) OPM Process Execution:
    ==========================
    EITHER should I (Option 1):
a.) Create ONLY 3 Formulas for Primary, Secondary and Further Processing . The 3 Formulas will have all the processing line Finished Products grouped together (as per the scenarios explained above). Formula for Primary and Secondary Processing can also combined together, reducing it to only 2 batches to maintain per day.
b.) Can set any Quantity Values for the Ingredient, Product and By-Product in the Formula details with ANY Cost Allocation (amounting to a total of '1') in the Products section
c.) Set the Validity Rules as 'PRODUCTION' for the 3 Recipes
d.) Complete the steps defined in the 'OPM Cost Management' (as described below)
e.) Create the 2 or 3 batches and record the appropriate quantities at the end of the day before closing the batches
    OR should I (Option 2):
a.) Create MULTIPLE Formulas (above 100 formulas) for Primary, Secondary and Further Processing based on the different products processed.
b.) Can set any Quantity Values for the Ingredient, Product and By-Product in the Formula details with ANY Cost Allocation (amounting to a total of '1') in the Products section
c.) Set the Validity Rules as 'PRODUCTION' for the 3 Recipes
d.) Complete the steps defined in the 'OPM Cost Management' (as described below)
e.) Create the MULTIPLE batches and record the appropriate quantities at the end of the day before closing the batches.
    b.) OPM Cost Management:
    ========================
Whether (Option 1 or Option 2) selected, the below needs to be set for OPM Costing:
a.) Define multiple formulas (above 100), as in Option 2.
b.) Set the Quantity value to be '1' for the Ingredient, Product and By-Product in the Formula details with the appropriate Cost Allocation in the Products section
c.) Set the Validity Rules as 'COSTING' and 'PRODUCTION' for each Recipe
d.) Run Cost Rollup at least once so that the products can have an item cost per unit
As per me, for the purpose of Costing, it would be imperative to have multiple batches (created one time only) with appropriate Cost Allocation in the Formulas and the ‘Recipe Use’ in the Validity Rules should be set as ‘COSTING’. Then, setting Profile Option 'GMF: Use Only Costing Validity Rules for Cost Rollup' to 'Yes'. In this way, we are sure that the different products in the formula with correct Cost Allocation will have their Item Cost calculated after performing the Cost Rollup. AND, for the purpose of operations, we can only one combined formula of Live Birds (as Ingredients) to yield -> All FGs for Primary and Secondary Processing with Cuts. But, this time, the ‘Recipe Use’ in the Validity Rules of the Recipe should be set as ‘PRODUCTION’.
I want to confirm which approach (Option 1 or Option 2) is more appropriate in terms of Operations and confirm that the above proposed steps are correct with no circular reference (as certain finished products are also used as ingredients for another product in the Secondary Processing)?
    Thanks and regards

    Hi Raveesh
I am implementing OPM R12 in Poultry Processing business, I think option 1 (Create 3 formulas/recipes/batches) is more appropriate. In my case we are using actual costing (Moving Average) as a costing method.
I have set the profile option GMF: Cost Allocation Factor Calculation to be "Dynamic" to calculate the batch cost allocations as a ratio of actual quantity of each product produced to the total production batch output quantity and I have used OPM Financial Cost Allocation process to allocate GL expenses on different products based on Fixed percentage % according to product "value" where Filets has a return more than wings.
Can you please share your knowledge in this business area and confirm to what extend my approach is correct ??
    Thank you and best regards

  • SAP  opportunity for IT/BPO services as well as airline domain

    Hi All,
I need suggestions related to my career path that i am building. I am a consultant having around 4.5 +years of experience in sap consulting. I do for Mm/QM. I have support/implementation experience in manufacturing , process industry who were my clients during my professional tenure. Now i have decided to join a company (actually joined) which is into IT/BPO services ( they manage the activities through SAP( procurement being my part))and also has done sap implementation for airline domain. They do not do any other sap practice other than travel and airline. Now if i tell you , i have joined the company so that i can see how SAP is customized to  match the requirement of IT/BPO services. This is a new domain for me and i think i have lot to learn from it. However i also see that i have the chance of being dynamic (vertical wise) as i have knowledge in manufacturing, process, it services/ airline. So i am thinking of staying and learning the same. But 3-6 years down the line i might again change my job with/into consulting firms/ solution providers. In that case will it be a right decision to stay with this organization and work profile or leave and  move to the previous vertical in which i was (consulting firms/ solution providers)
    Regards,
    SS

    Hi Sen,
as told by Vev Patra, if you thinks you are gaining knowledge about new things, please stay there because you will get a lot of things to be learn, when it comes to switch towards other side, it will not be a major issues for you, because after some years you will get domain knowledge in various module and your expertise also increased upto a level, and that will be sufficient for a vertical growth.
But if you are thinking that, there is nothing more to learn, then you can move towards your previous role, as not gaining any new thing, means you are not learning new concepts, and in this way you get struck at one point, which in needless.
So, it totally on your business aspects, if you thinks your previous role was good, then you can move onto it, but if you are enjoying the present role, please keep it with you, because it will also play a vital role in your vertical career growth in some manner.

  • SAP Implementation Starting

    Hi all
I am heading an SAP implementation for my company .
I want to make sure that the implementing company
delivers a fine and within time and budget solution.
What are the points that are usually written in contracts
to avoid delays / bad solutioning ?Pls give me tips as to
what all I can have as part of the contract .
    All suggestions / Inputs welcome.
    Thanks

    Dear Oops Kooops,
You question is broad in spectrum. To start with you can refer to some good Project Management books in SAP.
These are some of the details you can look for:
    Business Goals
Know how your project will benefit the business, and make sure you communicate those benefits to the employees who will use the technology. Poorly defined goals doom a technology project; well-defined goals help keep all project personnel working together. The system with unclear business benefits is one better left unsponsored and undone.
    User Involvement
Getting user buy-in requires more than just communicating benefits. It also helps dramatically to enlist users' collaboration in designing or selecting the system.
To convince business line managers to lend their workers to the front end of a project, executives recommend talking to their wallets.
    Risk Management
Every I.T. project faces risk, whether it is technical (caused by unproven technology or integration problems) or business risk. Veterans say project sponsors should not only understand the risks but also demand that contingency plans be put in place before the first nail is hammered. But even though risk management is a project management basic, it is easy for executives with little technical knowledge to ignore it because they are intimidated by the technology. Fortunately, they also say technical risk is easier to manage than business risk. If the project hinges on a relatively new technology, it makes sense to build and test a prototype before going whole hog.
    Scope Management
Keeping requests for new features from derailing or slowing down a project is a step that should be handled by the project manager, but occasionally the executive sponsor has the clout to say no to a request the IT leaders can't refuse.  Besides inflating costs, scope creep can deflate user enthusiasm as the project's benefits are pushed off. Getting the project done quickly is a good goal for the executive sponsor to champion; bells and whistles can be added later, after the initial rollout. "Vanilla is a very good flavor"
    Appropriate Accountability
No accountability, no progress--that's no surprise. The challenge in IT projects is to hold the right people accountable for the right deliverables. The IS department's job is to hand over the specified level of system functionality by the due date. After that, it's up to the business workers to get the specified business benefits out of the system. And the executive sponsor should make sure accountability is in place to enforce that division of labor.
Non-IT execs have a tendency to exaggerate the role IS workers will play after a system is rolled out. As a result, it is common to point the finger for system failure at IS. That gives the other employees less incentive to make the new system work.
IS and business line workers develop a lot more synergy when both feel an equal burden of responsibility.
    Helpful Hype
Amidst all the spreadsheets, numbers, risk analyses and so forth, remember to add a spoonful of sugar for those who will actually have to use the technology.
Do let me know in case of any queries.
    Hope this helps you.
    Regards,
    Rakesh
