Designer 8 pdf not running server side

Hi there
Forms I have built using Designer 8.0 and deployed on a W2K server work fine if the Client has the same name DSN and can connect to the same backend database otherwise the pdf loads in the browser but fails to populate the fields.
The JavaScript that is used to make the connection and call the data is set to run on both client and server.
Am I missing something? Should Designer 8.0 also be installed on the server as well as the 'build' machine (these are all .NET 2.0 Applications)?
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated!

I'm still trying to get an answer from Adobe about LiveCycle Forms.
To be honest I've not tried using pdf forms for inserting or updating, only to populate - like insurance report forms - based on data already held.
Used to use APToolkit with asp, but that is involved coding. The downside to LiveCycle is it won't support POST so SELECT WHERE critera has to be via the address bar!
If I get any answers I'll let you know! Just before 8.0 came out I did actually get a call from Adobe sales and they assured me if I upgraded LiveCycle would work fine server side (and I wouldn't need and other 'additions'), but.....

  • In Design CS6 - pdf not printing right

    OSX 10.8.5
Adobe Creative Suite Design Standard / In Design v. 8.0.2  (latest update)
ISSUE:  Seems to have arisen right after I upgraded my Mac OS from Tiger to Mountain Lion.  Not sure if there's a connection, however.  I just did the latest update for CS6, so don't know if the prior version of InDesign led to the problem either (it was CS6 but I hadn't done an update for awhile).
Issue:  I created an InDesign page and then generated a press quality PDF for a commercial printer, who put it thru a RIP and then printed it.  My submitted PDF looked just fine, no issues that I could see.  However, on two occasions the pages printed with things missing…..in one case a header at the top and part (not all) of a block of text in the other.  On the second occasion, two bits of text within two separate text blocks were missing.  This NEVER occurred before, ever.  BUT….this has happened since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS and before updating CS6 to the 8.0.2 version I now have.
My printer said "In Design sometimes doesn't distill a PDF correctly", although this doesn't make sense as I've never had this happen before.  The fonts were fine, not protected, everything was present, all colors were fine, it was just sporadic missing text.  I've looked at everything and can't find any reason for this.
Has anyone got ideas about this?

Can we assume that you are exporting PDF, not somehow creating PDF via distillation of PostScript? PDF via distillation of PostScript is not reliable.
And exactly what PDF joboption preset did you use when you exported PDF?
Quite frankly, I somehow suspect that neither you, the MacOS version, the InDesign version, nor the PDF file itself are the problem.
The fact that your printer is mumbling about “In Design (sic) sometimes doesn't distill a PDF correctly” leads me to believe that your printer may be the problem. Quite often, printers muck around with perfectly fine PDF files, opening them in (gasp!) Adobe Illustrator “just to check things out and to ‘fix things’.” The problem is that usually there really isn't anything to fix and that Adobe Illustrator is not, repeat not, repeat yet again not a PDF file editor. The only PDF files that Adobe Illustrator can safely open and edit are PDF files saved from Adobe Illustrator if and only if the “save editability” option is selected when such a PDF file is saved. Otherwise, it is very possible that text and other PDF objects may be lost or otherwise modified, colors changed, etc. The damage occurs when the PDF file is opened in Illustrator and becomes permanent when such a file is saved, even if nothing is explicitly done to the file by the user!
Alternatively, your printer may have a wonky PDF workflow system with very out-of-date components or a very, very out-of-date RIP/DFE.
Generally speaking, if you can open the PDF file in Acrobat or Adobe Reader and print successfully to a local print device, you should have no problems of the type you describe.

  • Running server side methods prior to applet launch

    Hi all,
I have recently become involved in the JSP world. My question is this:
How can I get a server-side process to run prior to the launcing/running of an applet that must also be present on the page? Is there a way to force an order of execution within a JSP?
Due to the nature of the code, it is impossible for me to create a secondary page that runs the server side process prior to being redirected to a page containing the applet.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks from a newbie!

    Hey there,
Yes, it did help, however, I realized that a redirection of the action to another URL (jsp) instead of the assigned action class would allow me to manage the auditing I needed to do.
    Thanks for the response!

I downloaded Firefox in Safe Mode (can not download in normal mode, it blocked by IE), when I run it , it displays, "Firefox can not find the server at www.mozilla.com"
I wanted temporarily tun off the firewall to let Firefox in. I

    Greatly appreciate your help!

    Thanks for the reply.
We are still not able to figure out the reason, but the problem seems to orignate in the way swing handles repaint() events in JDK version 1.3. (Paint coalescing, see link below...)
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/awt/enhancements.html#coalescing
Our application has multiple swing controls. Each control requests data from the model in its paint event. If model does not have the data it in turn opens a http socket connection to the server and gets the data.
Our guess is that the calls which were previously sequential, are going simultaneously after coalescing was introduced in swing. But it does not explain why it works if client is not on server machine.
Also, the application does not fail in a consistent manner. In most cases data does not come at all, but sometimes some controls do get the data. (If server and client are running on different machines, controls always get the data.)
We have ruled out the possibility that the weblogic server is modifying the classpath or any environment variable at startup and resetting them at shutdown.
We started server on two machines, machine1 and machine2 and opened a client in machine1 which accessed server running on machine2. Everything ran perfectly.
Any help will be appreciated. We are all ready to handover to QA except for this inexplicible bug :(
milinddev, can i send you a mail..... ? The posting has your email-address.

  • RUN SERVER SIDE OS COMMAND OR ANY EXECUTABLE FILE FROM CLIENT

Would you provide a complete example regarding execution Server side OS command or program from ORACLE SQL CLIENT OR FORM. This client may be a remote client.

instead of just copying jvm.dll, I would recommend installing Java through the installer as there are most likely other files that jvm.dll is dependent on, etc.
It's been a while since I have worked with HAL integrations (Vignette), but I believe you will need HFM client installed on the end user machine.
If you have a lot of machines, this could be a bit annoying. Because of that when we used HAL, we made a custom web front-end that ran on a server with the HAL programs. It was more work to build the web U/I; however, from a management perspective, it was a lot easier to control/maintain.

  • TCP/IP problem: closes on client side, not on server side, can't reconnect!

Hey folks. I have a Java servlet that establishes a TCP/IP connection (via the Socket class) to a credit card processing company. Sometimes (usually early in the morning), for some reason the servlet starts timing out when using the socket (read timeouts), and the servlet responds by attempting to close() the socket, then re-open. The reopen doesn't work (no route to host).
The credit card processing company put a sniffer on their end, and they don't see anything when our reads time out or when we subsequently do a close(). Thus, they assume the connection is still established. When we try to open a new connection, our SYN packets do get through to them just fine, but they reply with RST packets because they think the prior connection is still established (thus they reject the new connection attempt)... but for us, that connection had gone dead.
They recommend we send FIN packets to them etc., i.e. that we do a proper TCP/IP close.... but if the connection suddenly goes dead to us, we can't do that... our close() attempts send absolutely nothing to them (no FIN packets, nothing at all).
Any ideas? Our servlet runs in Java 1.2 under BEA Weblogic 4.5.1 on an HP/UX box. I'm thinking that, after a long time (hours) with no data transferred, our socket times out somehow on our end only (the card company appears to have no such idle-timeout policy), and thus our read/write/close attempts send nothing to them (because the socket is now invalid), but of course the subsequent open attempt sends SYN's just fine. A search of the "weblogic.properties" file produces no apparent TCP/IP socket idle-timeout values to increase or eliminate.
Please help if you can... right now, the connection can be down for hours because of this (with many fruitless incidents of our open-attempt SYN's responded to with RST's), and we have to call the credit card processing company to have them reset the port, which allows our next open attempt to work.
    Thanks!

    Strange... You say:
Thus, they assume the connection is still established. When we try to open a new connection, our SYN packets do get through to them just fine, but they reply with RST packets because they think the prior connection is still established (thus they reject the new connection attempt)... but for us, that connection had gone dead.
According to me, normal TCP behavior shouldn't behave like that.
A connection is identified by the two ends. Each end is a pair of <IP><Port>... This pair is likely to be the same all the time on the server, but will change on the client. The first time you issue a connection to the server, you will have a TCP connection identified by <ClientIp><FreeLocalPort1>-<ServerIp><ServerListeningPort>. The second time you connect, another free local port will be used. The previous cannot be reused - either because still in use, or because of a kind of 'grace' period during which this port number cannot be reused (this is to prevent mis-interpretation of packets that might be delayed on the network - connection is in the state TIME_WAIT).
Therefore, I don't understand why the server replies with RST when your client tries to reconnect.
Unless it has nothing todo with the TCP layer itself... You will see the same RST packet if the server application itself (not the TCP layer) refuses the connection because of some logic that says 'only one connection per client host'. If the server didn't notice your first connection was dead, it is likely to refuse your second attempt. See what I mean?
Remember a TCP connection can be half-closed. This means that if your client closes the connection, the server won't be able to send you anything but can still read what you send. In this case, if the server sits waiting for your data, it will never detect the connection lost... This is why most tcp daemons start a timer when reading incoming data. After a predefined period of inactivity, they decide the connection is dead and will close their side of the pipe - the connection is now fully closed.
Hope it was clear (despites my poor English and the very late hour in the night ;-)
Can point you to more accurate TCP doc if needed.

  • Automating PDF Generation with Server-Side Acrobat - Benefit, Risks, Suggestions?

    Looking for some clarity...
How feasible is it to automate PDF creation from Excel using Acrobat, as opposed to some third-party tool?
The SDK seems out of date.  Any issues programming with .NET?
Are there better products out there, from third-party providers?
    Suggestions?

The product replaced Distiller Server, but does much more than that. That used to be $5000-$10000, I believe, but LiveCycle products are a custom quote.
The price is set high partly because it can replace a whole office full of Acrobat licenses, one reason (but not the only one) why enterprise level products are in a different universe pricingwise. I'd expect to pay at least to match 100-200 lost sales of Acrobat.

  • Server side includes: outdated and not supported by host?

I've been using SSI's for ages with no problem from any host. Recently I signed up with a new web hosting company, one of the more established ones in the Seattle area. They do not support SSI's and claim that using them is not safe and is not a modern approach to web design. They suggested I use a more advanced programming language to create my sites, such as ASP.NET (something I have no desire to do).
Are server side includes outdated and no longer the way to do things? I find that hard to believe.
    -Jesse

Are server side includes outdated and no longer the way to do things? I find that hard to believe.
That language is from Microsoft who seem to think so along with Windows based hosting providers offering ASP.NET.
IIS no longer comes with SSI installed by default. It has to be configured by the hosting provider.
    http://blogs.iis.net/robert_mcmurray/archive/2010/12/28/iis-notes-on-server-side-includes- ssi-syntax-kb-203064-revisited.aspx
However, classic SSIs (in the sense of including static content from one page inside another) are still one of the most powerful, safe and flexible tools for managing repetitive page elements in any web page. Not to mention easy.
ASP.NET has its own way of doing the equivalent of SSIs - and lots more beside but much of which does not interest web designers at this stage.

  • Why the server side behavior of LoadVars() not consistent?

In my server side script for FMS app, there is such code:
    var lv = new LoadVars();

  • Need Help Finding a Server-Side printing solution - CFMX 7.0.2

I would like some help in figuring out how I can print PDFs
to a specified server-side printer. I am running MX 7.0.2.
Simplifying my process a bit, I would like to create a pdf,
send that pdf to a server-side printer, then write to a database
the date&time of when that pdf was printed (actually when it
    was sent to the printer).
Any advice or a good place to look to help me?
    Thanks.

First thing I would look at is the capabilities of the
    printer. Good
quality network printers meant for the job should have all
    you need
built in. You will just need to send the file to be printed
    to a
specified directory, URL:port, email address or other network
    protocol
the printer has been designed to monitor and print anything
    that comes
    its way.
If your printer is a desktop printer doing a network job you
    will have
more work to do. The next thing to check out is the printer
    driver
capabilities, can it be run from the command line or some
    other method
that is automate-able. ColdFusion can fairly easy send
    command line
instructions in this type of situation.
If that is not an option you may be down to the hardest
    choice. If you
can run some application that can print the document you may
    be able to
use COM objects to do this programatically. This is a
    challenging task
and usually very fragile. For example, using COM objects to
    interact
with MS Word is very difficult - since Word will often
    generate dialog
boxes that can only be responded to by a user directly
    interfacing with
    the server.

  • Spry Widget as a Server Side Include

  • Server side redirect with 4.5.1 and Netscape Enterprise Server

Is it possible to have a servlet running under WL 4.5.1 to perform a server

              Here's my config:
web server: Netscape Enterprise Server 3.6 on solaris, with weblogic
              plugin
servlet runner: WL 4.5.1 on different host from ES.

              2) forwarded by plugin to servlet
              3) servlet logs some activity to an application log file, and sends a
server side redirect to enterprise server
              4) Enterprise server returns the file identified by the rediect directly
              to the client.
This is possible with enterprise server and CGI, because the ES CGI code
checks the return stream from the CGI program for "Location: <some url>". If
it see's that, it tries to locally resolve that URL as the client had asked
directly for that URL. I think this would only be possible with WL if the WL
NSAPI plug in supported a server side redirect feature. Anyone know status
of that? Or might ES support something like this depending on the order of
              the objects in obj.conf?
Here's what I've tried in the servlet:
              res.setHeader("Location:", location);
              res.setContentType("magnus-internal/redirect");
              res.setStatus(302);
This just sends an HTTP tempoary new location to the client for a client
side redirect. Client side redirect is not desirable because it doubles the
              HTTP traffic.
Another option would be to read the file I want to redirect to from inside
the servlet and return it from the servlet, but that is not desirable
because I want to have ES serve the file - thats it's job, it caches, less
network traffic (between our servers), etc.
Server side redirect is very useful feature and not that uncommon for web
applications, so if WL does not support it now, I will probably put in a new
              feature request.
              Thanks for your help

Why not just use the proxy servlet to redirect to your netscape server? That
does it on the server side!

  • Where is the database of "server side" sync items?

    Server 10.5.6 clients 10.5.5
Problem: Server side file tracking for Mobile Home sync is on. Files are not syncing reliably. Desktop items don't make it back to the network home and other similar issues. The clients get several errors stating that there was a problem syncing one file or another and to contact the admin if it continues.
Turn off Server side tracking. Files sync runs as one would expect, all files sync correctly with no errors.
We use two off site subnets connected via site to site VPN. Sync now takes 10 minutes at those locations.
Turn Server side tracking back on, assuming it might recreate the database automatically. Problems come back.
Needed: How to delete the current presumably corrupt database on the server so that we can run server side tracking again?
    Thanks

As well, you might wish to hold off on updating your clients to 10.5.6 if you can, some have reported PHD syncing reliability issues.
