Designer Logon issue via VPN
Post Author: hendrekt
CA Forum: Authentication
I am new to this software and had an issue trying to connect to a server using VPN connection from home. Tool is Designer version 11. I am using LDAP authentication and I get this error: "An internal error has occurred in the secLdap plugin "
When I came into my office today, I was able to log on.
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Thanks,
Todd

887 router issue - data via VPN
Hi
I am having an issue i just cant get my head around, probably simple but i cant see the answer.
We have a 887VAW router that connects via vpn to our HQ. From a site/user perspective everything works fine.
Wireless and hard wire works for internet and data to HQ.
The issue I am having is if i telnet to the router, I cant ping HQ from the CLI, but if i use ping and specify the routers ip as the source, the ping is successful.
Router#ping 172.16.1.67 source 172.16.109.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.1.67, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with a source address of 172.16.109.1
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 60/63/64 ms
Router#ping 172.16.1.67
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.1.67, timeout is 2 seconds:
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)Hi,
By default, if you do not mention the source ip, the traffic goes with source ip of the outside interface.
This outside ip address is not encrypted by the vpn (interesting traffic acl).

I also have a system log May 2 12:12:21 ATHENA DirectoryService[41]: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure (Server not found in Kerberos database)
This logs only happen while logging through VPN.
Any idea?

BenHi,
When using your VPN are yo using Terminal LIcense or Remote Desktop Connection?
Please do the following to save form settings:
1. Only 1 module should be open when using form settings.
Close other modules that doesn't need.
2. Close the module after changed. To make sure the settings are saved.
3. Always close all the module before exiting SBO program, use the click FIle and Exit habit.
4. Terminal Licensing should be use when connecting remotely.
Thanks.

Financial Reports Client - 11.1.2.1 - Won't connect via VPN only?
When I try and connect via VPN only. I get: You are not authorized to use this functionality. Contact your administrator.
Here's the log from client. We have ensured the client version matches the server version exactly. Funny as when I'm directly on their network I can connect just fine. Hoping this log will point to solution.

Have a look at the following http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-component-communications-11121-354680.xls
Select FR studio as the client and it should give indication to the ports that need to be opened.

SharePoint via VPN in a hosting environment
Hello everybody,
today I come across with a question regarding infrastructure design. Beforehand you have to know, I am not an architect, until now I was just an Sharepoint admin :)
We have a scenario, that one of my customers want us to host a sharepoint 2013 in our datacenter. They also want to use their already existing active directory infrstructure, so they can use all their AD properties for mysite and profiles.
My question is, what could be a supported or feasible configuration?
My first consideration is to connect the customer site via VPN to our DATACENTER with a 50 meg internet connection, placing a RODC in our datacenter which is replicating the AD structure from the customer site via VPN to our DATACENTER, so that the
sharepoint machines can join their domain, replicate all the profile data and also authenticate the users against the active directory in a performant way!
In my opinion, this is the only option because building up an own Active Directory and create an ADFS trust between the brand new active directory and the already existing active directory from the customer, will end up in trouble to replicate the user profiles,
I guess! Not to mention that there will possibly be some performance issues in authenticating the user aganst the sharepoint.
Until now I have no experince in scenarios like this, where technology is spanning via DATACENTERS. In former configurations we had everything (including Active Directory) in our datacenter!
Are there any caveats to do it like I mentioned?
Every hint or thought will be valuable.
Greetings AndreHello,
as I recently figured out, there has to be a read/write DC to be reachable for several reasons.
Creating a new sitecollection, people search with people picker and running the farm configuration wirzard are just a few of them.
Here is a KB article I triped over:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970612/de
Is there a configuration with ADFS possible, has anybody experience with this?

Data Services Designer - Very Slow on VPN
Hello,
Any idea why Data Services Designer is very slow and many a times goes into Not Responding state. I'm using this client tool to connect to the Data Services Repository + Servers via VPN.
It takes few minutes to load the jobs or to save the changes. Some times hangs.
Wanted to know if anyone is facing similar issues, and any workaround/setup changes to eliminate these delays...
Regards,
Madan
Edited by: Madan Mohan Reddy Zollu on Mar 12, 2010 9:24 AMData Services Designer is communicating with the repo (to store/retrieve objects) and the jobserver (to execute jobs and get status/log files) so if there is a slow network connection, response time in the Designer could become problematic.
One way to solve this is use CITRIX or terminal services to have your Designer close to the database and only screens are send over the slow connection. In the Windows installation guide there is a chapter that documents how to setupDesigner in a (multi-user) Citrix environment. -
Do I need to run DNS on a colo server being accessed remotely via VPN?
My Mac Mini Server is located in a colo site. We generally use it for Web, email and a couple of application-specific services. It has a dedicated IP address. We have a separate DNS service we use to point to the domains on the server located remotely from the server. Forward and reverse lookups work fine from the server, even though the local DNS service is turned off.
However, we now have a couple of things we want to access remotely on the server via VPN (for example, some files via AFP). The firewall blocks remote AFP requests (using the built-in firewall, not a separate box). We can connect via VPN without problems. However, AFP does not work. If I allow AFP in the firewall and try to connect, no problems at all.
Since the Mini is located by itself and will never likely have anything connected to a "local network" (never running DHCP, etc.), there generally doesn't seem to be a need to run DNS on the server.
I suspect the problem is that when you VPN into the server you are on its "local network", whatever that means, so the DNS does not resolve since the local DNS service is not running. However, I am not positive of this.
Must we run local DNS? Does it have to mirror the remote DNS that we currently reference? Can we somehow "reference" the local DNS from VPN clients trying to access local services?
I hope this question makes some sense.Bear with me please....
The Mac Mini is in a data center on a shelf, getting a direct connection to the Internet via ethernet with a fixed IP address (under the covers, I suspect that the data center is using some sort of router or switch, but I am not paying for a hardware firewall or other gateway). There is no local network for the Mini. It is not running DHCP, not handing out NAT addresses, etc. DNS is currently off. Rather than using the local DNS, the Mini is resolving its DNS needs with a DNS server located at another site, over the Internet. This seems to work fine (i.e., changeip confirms it is working and services seem to work).
I am currently using the software firewall built into SLS.
I want to turn on VPN so that remotely located computers can access services on the Mini without having to make the services visible through the firewall.
I am able to connect devices via VPN with little difficulty (iPhones, Macs, etc.). However, when I try to access services (let's use AFP as an example), I cannot access them UNLESS they are allowed through the firewall. This tells me that I am not seeing the services through the VPN, but rather through the Internet directly.
What I meant by "local network" is that the VPN allocates local IP addresses when devices log into the VPN service (10.0.x.x). There is no DHCP allocating these addresses, just VPN.
My question is: why can I not see the services on the Mini blocked by the firewall when successfully logged into VPN on the server? Isn't the whole point of the VPN to gain access to services behind the firewall?
I am guessing (with no particular information to support my thesis) that somehow without DNS running on the Mini, VPN clients are unable to access services on the Mini. I do not know for sure, however, if this is the problem. If it IS a problem, then the question is whether I should completely copy the DNS entries from the remote DNS server to the Mini and start the service. Will that solve the issue? Create conflicts with the DNS (since it is now located on both a remote service and on the Mini)? It certainly will create a maintenance headache since now I will have to maintain the DNS in both places.
I am hesitant to migrate all of my DNS services to the Mini (because I will also have to go to the domain registrars to change where they point, etc.) to eliminate the remote one. And I am not sure it will solve this problem anyway.
Sorry for all of the typing! -
Unable to access secondary subnet via VPN
I am having a problem with clients accessing a secondary subnet via VPN.
Clients on VPN are given the address on the 192.168.15.0 subnet. Once connected they can access 192.168.16.0 (Production subnet) fine, but are unable to access the 192.168.8.0 secondary subnet. If you are on the 192.168.16.0 subnet in the office you can access 192.168.8.0 subnet fine. The traffic is coming in via an ASA 5510 then traverses a Juniper firewall and a MPLS router to the secondary subnet. I'm not sure if it's a nat issue or not. Any help would be helpful.
Below is the config of the ASA. Thank you in advance

4150L - Works on web, but can not connect via VPN or Remote Desktop
Recently purchased a 4150L and installed the latest firmware. We have been able to access all public websites without any problems. But, when we try and access our customers computers via VPN (various types) or Remote Desktop, we can't connect. We can sign-in to VPN, but when we try and access the computer, it says "can't connect". Exact same message with Remote Desktop. We are able to connet when use a Verizon phone as a hotspot and from every other internet service that we have tried (i.e. hotels, starbucks, etc.) It appears it is an issue with the 4150L.
Verizon Tech Support has been no help!
All ideas are appreciated!
Thanks,
SkipSkip,
VPN traffic should be allowed through on the MiFi 4510L by default. I know I do not have any issues with mine on either the Cisco IPSec or Cisco SSL VPN Clients.
If Verizon DNS is interferring then perhaps you could try to connect to your VPN via a direct IP Address instead of a URL. Not sure what VPN client you have but there should be a No DNS option to connect if you know the correct IP. You could also try switching your DNS to one of the free ones such as the one offered by Google or any of the others.
VPN's carry alot of overhead on existing connections in my experience. Its not untypical to have a 3G connection cut in half when a VPN is applied. Try running a speed test to make sure your connection is atleast 1 MB on download before initiating a connection. If the performance of the MiFi is too poor in that area it may never be stable enough to support a connection. Feel free to post some Speedtest.net averages so we can see what you are working with.
Something to note about the MiFi 4510L is that it is on the SIM card network. That means that NAT is always going to be an issue and block your users from providing a truely public IP Address. Directly remoting to them through any means will be nearly impossible. -
Accessing a subnet via VPN session
Hi everybody.
I have not to much experience configuring and managing VPN´s and at this moment I am facing a bit issue. I've got a remote site which is connected to the headquarters via VPN site to site IP Sec tunnel. When I am in my office I have no problem to reach the remote network, but, when I try to connect to the remote network via VPN client, I can't reach it.
in the remote office I've hot a Router 3800 (Cisco IOS Software, 3800 Software (C3845-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(13c), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)) in the headquarters I've got an ASA 5520 Version 8.0(3) I've chequed access-list, and network objects and it seems everythink ok.

Can someone guide me about what is missing in the config? no problem if you need more "sho run" lines.
Regards and Thanks very much!!Hi Ankur, thanks very much for your reply!
this is the "sho run" in my remote router:
I do not undesrtand well your first question, but if it is usefull, I loggin to headquerters "headquerters public ip address"
this is a simple diagram of where I want to connect to:

Slow finder Browsing when accessing LAN via VPN connexion
I am running ML Server, latest upadte on a 2010 Mac Mini Server machine.
When I am connected to my network from a remote location via VPN, and I try to browse my LAN structure with Finder, it takes ages for the list of folders/files to appear and refresh.
I have checked my VPN configuration and tried different type (L2TP, PPTP) but nothing significantly differ in term of browsing speed.
I also appreciate that the network connection at the remote location, as well as the upload speed on my local network can influence the overwal browsing speed... but after several test, I confirm I have more than 3 Mbps bandwith for upload on the local network, and 20 Mbps minimum on the remote location.
I also tried AFP / SMB, but does not seem to change anything.
So, I guess I hope the Community has already experienced the issue and some of you guys may have found a workaround to this issue.
Many thanks.why not try cisco ipsec
Input the following settings:

How to install packages on client via VPN
Hello
I have a number of users that use laptops and mostly connect to the office network via an OSX VPN Server. I can see when they connect, copy files to them and control their screens.
I do not seem to be able to install packages to them. The ARD console goes through the motions but the package never gets to the remote end and is never installed.
Can anyone shed any light on this? From what I can tell this may be a multicast issue - if this is true how can I get the VPN server to route the multicast traffic, or alternatively how can I stop ARD from using multicast for these clients?
Any help appreciated. If I can not use the package installation system it will make managing these users quite difficult.
Kind regards
Jason
Mac OS X (10.4.9)Hi Jason,
Have you found anything else that can't be done or is acting strangely using ARD with those connecting via VPN? Another question that comes to mind is the up and down speed of both your office's connection to the net and that of the clients connecting in. You said that you can copy files to them--does that work with large files as well? Have you tried copying the install package rather than installing it to see if that works?
I ask all of this because I've found in my support role with VPN clients, that viewing/controlling the screen, copying small files, chats, and alerts all work fine. But a large install package? I don't even bother. Sure, it works locally, but the upload speed of the company's internet connection isn't fast enough to do large copies or installs remotely. (Which is why I'm wondering about copying a large file.) I usually get a "Communication Error".

Active Directory RDP Logon Issue
I have a problem logging on to my test domain, here are the setup and symptoms
Domain Prod: ua.here.someplace.com
Domain Test: ua.test-here.someplace.com
Domains totally separate DNS and WINS, although they are on the same subnets.
From my admin workstation I find I cant login to the test domain with the following format;
SEE ATTACHED
I cant figure out why.
DCDIAG in both domains is clean. All DNS entries listed in netlogon.dns are in the proper locations, I checked line by line.
Event logs say "Access Denied", as if it were a bad password, otherwise clean
But most perplexing, when I spin up a clean Virtual Windows 7 pro box (same DNS as admin workstation), Everything starts to work!!
I have deleted everything in credential manager on the admin workstation (including from cmd line with cmdkey.exe), including all the temp files in Local, LocalLow, and roaming, and all the Temp files with Internet Explorer. No change.
I am at a loss :(
Can the fact that the NetBIOS name is the same for both prod and test be an issue??? but I cant see how...
BlankMonkeyHi,
In order to solve this issue more efficiently, I need to clarify some information.
Firstly, those failed logon attempts, are they all logon attempts via RDP? What specific error do you see when logon attempts fail?
Secondly, the access denied event in Event Logs, would you please post out a complete version?
You also mentioned that after you brought a clean Virtual Windows 7 pro box, everything started to work, so what is the version of the former problematic machine?

Best way to access files on Xserve via VPN on iPad?
Can anyone tell be the best solution for accessing files housed on the companies Apple Xserve remotely via VPN from an iPad? Numbers / Pages etc.
thanks,
RickThe iPad doesn't natively support file systems such as those on servers, but there are third-party apps that can allow this. FileBrowser is one often mentioned, so you might look into that. VPN will be a separate issue; iOS has a built-in VPN client which works with many VPN systems, but you'll need to see if yours is supported.

Is symbian or windows mobile better to access mac shares via vpn?
I am considering a smart phone purchase in the next few months, and I would like to be able to browse my server via vpn from the phone the same way I can with my Palm LifeDrive. I think Symbian or Windows Mobile are my best OS choices for a phone, and I was wondering if anyone has actual experience with this. Do they use PPTP or L2TP? At this point, the iPhone cannot edit documents, so it is not a consideration, but I am also curious if it allows for this type of remote browsing through a VPN.
Thank you for any help that you can offer.
MichaelI have done some more testing and oddly enough I can map a drive if I use the IPaddress, but not the computer name, when checking the check box "connect using different credentials"and providing they users domain credentials.
This seems to point to a DNS issue, one would think, but I can hit the file share server by name \\fileserver.dev.lan
I can see all the shares, so dns seems to be fine right?
So I don't understand why I can map a drive using do the IPaddress and not the machine name, but yet I can see and ping the server by name?
When I try to create a mapped drive by machine name I receive the following message:
Windows cannot access \\fileserver.dev.lan\all
You do not have permissions to access \\fileserver.dev.lan. contact your network administrator to request access.
But if I use the \\x.x.x.x\all using the very same user and password I get connected with no problem.
This only seems to happen on windows 8.1, which leads me to think that has something to do with OS.
I am thinking about upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, but I don't want to go though the hassle and expanse is the OS is not the problem.
