Designing new skins for online help AIR App

I hope to output my online help as an AIR application, and one thing I want to be able to do is customise the skin to make it on-brand with our existing applications and corporate look and feel.
I am using Robohelp x5, and Adobe CS3 Design Premium, but plan to upgrade both to the newest versions in the near future.
I have been looking around the web and nothing leaps out as a definite solution.
What do I need to edit and what application should I edit it in?
All thoughts and suggestions gratefully received.
BTW: I have seen the other posts on this subject and have submitted this to the 'Wish list'. However in the meantime I want to see if I can create a customised skin with the help of a developer. (Also can't figure how to move this post to the AIR Help forum!)

Adminstrator / Moderator,
I do believe I should have made this post in the AIRHELP category of the ROBOHELP forum instead.
If you agree, please can you move it accordingly.
Cheers,
Richard

  • New Trends For Online Help

    Hi,
My project team uses Robohelp X5 and Robohelp X8 to generate help files. Recently, a lot of UI changes have been introduced. They have tried to enhance the look and feel of the application so that it resembles the commonly used social networking sites like facebook, orkut, etc. We have been asked to do a research on the kind of help available in all social networking sites available.
The help in those sites is very much different in terms of language used, search functionality, how do i questions, topics as links etc.
I would like to know if its possible to change the look and feel of the help, not only the skin, but in the way it works, making it more user friendly.
Do you have any other suggestions for enhancing the help?
    Thanks in advance!

Most of this inquiry can only be answered after high level discussions involving multiple disciplines within your organization, leading to business decisions that are, of course, well beyond the purview of most users in this forum. That is:
How will the help be delivered (installed to user machines, installed on customers' servers, distributed on your company web site or user portal)? That is, will HTML Help, WebHelp, AIR Help be the best way to go?
Will the help be embedded in your software product (this will require some high level expertise on the part of your developers)?
How large will the help be, how many authors will be working on it, and how sophisticated are they in the use of RH?
You would do well to check out the excellent web sites maintained by Peter Grainge, Rick Stone, Colum McAndrew, Willam van Weelden, etc., all long-time contributors to this forum. Once you've done your due diligence, and gotten more top level guidance from these good folks, you'll certainly have specific questions that will gladly be answered here, as usual.
    Good luck,
    Leon

I got the new update for my macbook air and know it is saying that i have to pay for pages, numbers, and keynote and it said that it was free before i did the update. Can somebody please help... I need pages for a school report.

If you had the previous version of those apps on your machine then the upgrade is free.
If you didn't have them installed you must purchase them.

  • Does anyone use RH7 for online help on their websites?

    Hi,
I'm finding that this product isn't usable for online help
within a website. Using the RH_ShowHelp() JavaScript calling
convestions triggers popup blockers on most of the major platforms
(Windows/IE, FF, Mac/FF). I don't understand why this is happenning
since the help and the page that links to the help are in the same
domain. Requiring customers to manually reconfigure their popup
blockers is not a viable solution.
On the one where it works (Mac/Safari) I'm left with a very
tiny window in the lower right corner. Expanding it shows the help,
but the page in the content pane is the file-not-found page
(clicking items in the navigation brings up the correct page). I'm
also seeing on the Mac (FF & Safari) that the Index &
Search areas aren't searchable like they are in Windows (no input
    box to search with).
When we asked Adobe about this the answer was more or less -
"that's how it works" and they gave us a link to the following page
detailing the limitations by browser (notice that it hasn't been
updated since 2004 and the newest IE is IE4).
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=rb_69353b&sliceId=2
I was hoping there would be a new RoboHelp_CSH.js file (it's
dated 2004) Ideally one that didn't rely on browser sniffing but
    instead checked for JavaScript capabilitites.
We missed testing this part when evaluating the product and
now it feels like a dead end.
Needless to say we've started moving on to other help
systems, but maybe someone can help save RH for us before we write
    it off completely.

    Welcome to our community, wjens
Hopefully you realize that you aren't forced to use the
WebHelp API to establish links to help.
Take a look at the following links:

  • How to add new skins for Adobe Flash Player in DW CS4?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to insert a FLV file into my webpage using Insert | Media | FLV...  from the top menu bar in dreamweaver cs4.
When the "Insert FLV" window opens up, I see a drop down list of different skins (clear skin, corona skin and halo skin) for the flash player, but none of these skins has the Full Screen button on it. How can i add a new skin to this drop down list that contains the full screen toggle?
Also, I'm using the Design view to build my website as I'm not very familiar with any kind of code.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

How can i add a new skin to this drop down list that contains the full screen toggle?
You can't.  You need a height and width for your player to appear correctly on the html page.
Also, I'm using the Design view to build my website as I'm not very familiar with any kind of code.
That's a real shame.  You're severely limited working only in Design View.  Kind of like working with a pencil between your teeth and both hands tied behind your back.  Web design is all about code. While you're learning, you should at least keep split screen open so you can see the code DW writes.

  • New Skinning For ComboBoxes

Does anyone know a good resource for Skinning Comboboxes?  I know basic skining, and have been able to skin the text fields, and the 'openButton' for comboBox, however I am looking to do more.
Specifically, I want to skin the BG of the dropDown so it will look similiar to this: http://screencast.com/t/NzY5YjYx however, with the BG scaling properly.
Right now the BG is a MC i made in Flash (cs4) with 9 Slice enabled, and turned on. The skin that I currently have set on the box is as follows:

Any help to what i am doing wrong, or a point to a good resource would be really super.  Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
If you set the constraints rather than width and height it should work
    <mx:Image source="@Embed('src/com/mindspark/SkinTest1/assets/testSwf.swf#box2')"  id="background"
    top="1" left="1" bottom="1" right="1"/>

  • Adt code sign GateKeeper rejection for OS X AIR app

I'm having a problem getting a signed OS X AIR captive runtime bundle app to pass the GateKeeper signature smell test.
Here are the digestible facts, in list format:
    - App is multi-platform OS X, Windows, iOS, Android, but let's just focus on OS X for now.
    - Application is a standalone captive runtime bundle app.
    - Dev machine running OS X 10.9.5 (with Xcode 6.0.1).
    - Built with AIR 15.0.0.258 Beta.
    - The certificate is a certificate from comodo.com guaranteed to work with AIR and OS X Digital Code Signing, Code Signing Certificates - COMODO
    - Tried compiling/packing with IntelliJ IDEA 14 beta and adt command line, both with same fail results.
    - Manual packaging method used: Adobe AIR * Packaging a captive runtime bundle for desktop computers
The adt command fires without a hitch, the command asks for the p12 password, I can see the certificate authorities get pinged as the packaging progresses. The resulting app seems fine and runs well with GateKeeper disabled. However, GateKeeper does not like the resulting app. I need this app to launch flawlessly on all user's systems (that's why I bought a certificate).
Here's the disappointing results from Terminal:
    spctl -a -t exec -vv myPrettyPony.app
    rejected
    source=no usable signature

I would suggest that those interested take a look at thread Tutorial on publishing Flex/Air app for Mac App Store or just using Developer ID for general distribution
However, since that thread is marked as answered, I want to leave this thread open until I find an answer to my particular question: What are the exact steps to properly package and codesign an OS X AIR app for independent distribution to OS X 10.9.5?

  • HT1338 I have just put a small dent in my sons Mac Pro13.  I feel terrible. Can I get a new skin for it?

I have just put dent and scratch on my sons MacPro. Can I get a new top skin for it.

You would have to inquire at an Apple Store or call Apple Customer Support.  Since accidental damage is Not covered under the Warranty, I'm afraid it might be very expensive to replace the case.

  • Need a new pc for developing windows desktop apps

I'm in need of a new PC for using visual studio on
I'm still learning c# but I'm constantly traveling so i don't get much chance to practice
i was thinking about the surface pro 3 i3 as it seems well suited to traveling and is the cheapest model available only
problem is that even the i3 is quite expensive and id still need to get a type cover with that
are there any ways to get this cheaper or a cheaper alternative (not the surface pro 2 as i hate its kickstand) as i was looking for something within the £400 - £500 price range
didn't know where to ask this
    thanks

Even if the question is offtopic. If you want to use your device during your travel (ie. in a train, bus, ...) a Notebook is a better choice instead of a Tablet PC like MS surface. You should find in the 400-500GBP range a lot Notebooks that are good for
    developing and mobile usage.
If you want to spend lot of money, get a THinkpad Yoga. But this is a device in the ~1000GBP range, but it is a convertable, small, not very heavy, perfect for traveling with it. But you will also find small Notebooks from Samsung, Toshiba, but at least
if it is an Ultrabook, you are in the upper price range.
    Best regards
    Bordon
Note: Posted code pieces may not have a good programming style and may not perfect. It is also possible that they do not work in all situations. Code pieces are only indended to explain something particualar.

  • I cannot choose the MX skin for the help

    Hi,
I am in the process of testing RoboHelp8, and I am generating layers for some old projects.
Everything is OK till now, however for some reason, I cannot choose the MX skin for my Flash layer.
I used in the old projects the MX skin, however now when I try to select it, I press the OK button and nothing is happening.
I can select however any other skin. Only the MX does not want to select.
Did anybody met this issue till now?
    Thank you,

  • New update for Community Help application - version 3.5 now available

Hi: just a quick announcement that the engineering team has released version 3.5 of the Adobe Community Help application.  This update is a very significant release that directly addresses a lot of the feedback that we’ve been hearing from the community.  The most significant changes include:
    Feature
    Benefit
    1.
    Tabbed Browsing
Ability to open multiple pages   from multiple sources simultaneously
    2.
    Favorites/Bookmarks
Ability to bookmark your   favorite URLs; note: we prepopulate a set of suggested bookmarks for you   based on the products you have installed.  Users can of course   add/edit/delete any bookmarks that they choose and can organize them via   folders, etc.
    3.
    Search/Browse History
Ability to view previous pages   browsed or search results (including previously used filter options, search   collections, online/offline search status, refinements, and more).
    4.
    Flash Platform ASLR
Ensures developers  only   have to download one copy of the ASR and not separate, multiple copies for   Flash vs. Flex, etc.
    5.
    Revamped local content   download workflow
The entire local content   download workflow has been reworked!  We have removed the pop-up dialog   box and moved the “content update” notification to the footer of the app as   well as the homescreen.  This ensures an uninterrupted workflow for   users who simply want to access content first and foremost.
    6.
    Performance improvements
The team has worked especially   hard on improving the start-up and browsing performance by consolidating a   number of disparate server calls into a single initialization service that is   only performed at launch.  This enables us to cache a number of assets   and reduce network calls/dependencies.
    7.
    Silent application updates
Similar to the changes in the   local content download experience, we have also revamped the update   experience for the application itself!  Going forward, app updates will   be downloaded in the background without interruption to the user workflow.
    8.
    Set-and-forget search options
Search options are now sticky   from session to session – for example, if you check the Search Adobe   Reference check box for  Photoshop, the CHC will remember those options   the next time you open the app. This applies to refinements too.
    9.
    Much more!!
Minimize to sytem tray (for PC   users only); upgrade to Flex 4.1 and AIR 2.5; and many, many other   enhancements, fixes, etc.!
Note: many of these features were part of our earlier 3.4 release – as some of you know, we had to pull down that release shortly after launch due to server/hardware issues. So only a few users were able to update at the time.  CHC 3.5 is now a general release that will support all users and has been extensively tested to ensure robust performance and stability.
To update your app, simply open the Community Help application from your hard disc or visit our download page on adobe.com:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chc
Please leave your comments/feedback here in this forum -- and feel free to spread the word!

    Hi Mark!
