Bonjour, j'ai reçu hier soir 2 propositions de votre part pour désinfecter mon mac de : search installmac, ce dont je vous remercie .
Etant débutante, je trouvais ces 2 solutions hyper compliquées !!!! En France, on qualifierait cela "d'usine à gaz"
Sur un forum, j'ai trouvé une solution très simple donnée par internaute qui connaissait ce gros problème.
J'ai suivi son conseil, et c'est parfait.
Je vous communique son procédé, et vous ferez de cette information ce qui vous semble juste (mais pensez aux débutants sur MAC....)

Ensuite vous suivez leurs directives.
C'est, facile, et efficace. Mon SAFARI et GOOGLE sont maintenant clean.

If you originally installed Rapport, then trashing the application did not completely remove it. Follow the developers instructions here.
Downloading anything from Softsonic will more than likely result in the installation of unwanted adware. Normally you will be alerted to that fact, but lots of users miss it. My recommendation is to avoid downloading anything from them, but if you must be sure to pay close attention to what the installer is telling you.

Fix safari search bar? Help!

I downloaded something online today and rather quickly deleted it. I have looked everywhere in my finder and trash and it all seems to be deleted. But it has done something to my safari search bar which I would like some help fixing! Whenever I search something it says it is loading 'search.installmac.com' and then it loads my search with bing. I have checked my safari preferences and it says my default search engine is google. I have even gone into terminal, deleted safari and then re-installined it but it is still doing this! I really want my search bar to just load once with google rather than the blue line loading three times then it using bing! someone please help!

You have definitely installed a variant of the Genieo adware. If you only read the first page of the topic Wayne linked to, you didn't get any decent removal instructions. Note that the Genieo uninstaller will not adequately remove any variant of Genieo... it leaves behind actively-running components in all cases. 'MacInstall' Google redirect trojan - how do I uninstall?

I think I have a Google redirect trojan called 'macinstall'. I am on Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and it happens on every search in safari 7.0.1 and firefox even though I have reset all the basic preference settings (which were changed) and deleted an extension called macinstall. I have tried changing the DNS to an open one (208.67.222.222) as this was suggested in another forum, but this hasn't worked and I have also deleted a proxy redirect which I could see although had no idea if that might help. Has been a problem since I downloaded 'Paintbrush', hence why I think it must be a trojan and given its name it's likely I did let it install. I can't find any mention of this trojan online, which may partly be because it is redirecting my browsers...
For example: when I type 'test' into the google toolbar I get:
'http://search.installmac.com/results.html?c=5&v=insMac&q=test', then:
'search.conduit.com/Results...' which is too quick for me to copy, then:
'http://www.bing.com/search?q=test&pc=conduit&ptag=A23C4503E21E14808B6F&form=CONM HP&conlogo=CT3210127'
which gives a rubbish bing search full of nonsense, but not full of illegal/ dodgy sites as far as I can tell which the other redirects seem to do.
I am also pretty sure my whole system is running a lot more slowly. I am currently running the free trial of MacScan to see if it can find anything but it's only picked up tracking cookies so far.
Please help! Idiot-proof instructions please.

Uninstall x11

made the BIG mistake of downloading XQuartz-2.7.5 (x11) when I was prompted to do so in order to download some fonts. Now my browser is screwed up, I just want to uninstall the thing, but apparently moving the application to trash doesn't do the trick. How can I get rid of it?! I downloaded it from this page: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/

thanks for the quick response. I emptied my trash and reset my default homepage to google -- realized my initial browser confusion was because it had defaulted to Bing instead. I made sure that my preferences had my default search engine set as google, but when I did a search on google, I was directed to Bing again. It looks like it flashed through this url: http://search.installmac.com/results.html?c=8&v=insMac&q=creative+canopy before it went from my google page to the Bing search results page. So... it seems like there's something still lurking in my applications/system that I need to get rid of.
When I searched for xQuartz in my applications folder, these files came up. but since they didn't necessarily have XQuartz in the file name, I wasn't positive they were related and hesitated to trash them. Should I?

If it's present, select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that theVersion is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.

If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.

Out of the blue I now get Bing as my search engine when I open Safari. How to I get rid of it?

When I open Safari, Bing has somehow become my default search engine. It always has an insistent ad on it. So I pick google and everything is fine until I need to open another tab. I have somehow managed to install something called InstallMac on my Mac and can't find a way to get rid of it. It has taken over Safari and will only let me use its search engine. How can I remove this without anti-malware software?

How do I change my search engine away from Bing?

I changed the preferences in Safari so that the search engine should be Google, yet when I do a search, it still seems to be using Bing.

You installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
Step 1
In the Applications folder, there should be an item named "Genieo". Select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that the Version is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you couldn't complete Step 1, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.

You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. It must be said that this failure of oversight is inexcusable and has seriously compromised the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You cannot rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the developer sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." If that happens, don't believe anything he says, but feel free to tell him what you think of his scam.
