Detecting blank page

Hi,
Currently I am working on web scanning project in which I have to get the documents from the scanner and save them in form of TIFF files (either single page or multi-page). As an enhancement to this project, I have to detect and eliminate blank pages. Can anybody please tell me how to detect blank pages/images??

I have found the solution to the problem.
Blank images will have highly uniform pixel values throughout the whole image. To measure the degree of uniformity (or variability), I came up with the function that calculates the standard deviation of all pixel values. An image is determined to be blank if the standard deviation falls below a certain threshold.

Since this is the InDesign forum you could do a couple of things in InDesign:
1. Use the Preflight in InDesign to detect blank pages.
2. Print a PostScript file with the option "Print Blank Pages" unticked, distill that to PDF and do your count on that.

I'm using internet explorer(yuk!!) and am having trouble with getting back my search engine "google" and all i get is "blank page", can u help?

First of all, forgive me cuz I'm probably NOT the sharpest "chip in a laptop" but I use Internet Explorer as my ISP(I've heard that GOOGLE CHROME is soo much better??) and Google as my search engine. For some reason(I know, probably USER idiot!!) even though I have set in my "internet connections" tab, www.google.com chosen, the minute I click a new tab to look for something else, that dreaded "about blank" or maybe "blank page" comes up.....wtheck???? Can u help me pleeez......thank u ..

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Uses RequestDispatcher and it gives me a blank page

Folks,
I am tired of this problem.
I am doing a shopping cart. When the user views (ViewChart, a servlet) his shopping cart and decides to delete some of the items.. his request will be handled by ProcessCart which is also a servlet. ProcessCart will not have any output to the user and it will forward the request (using RequestDispatcher) to ViewCart. It returns a blank page.
ViewChart is not giving me any problem when i first access it. The request is forwarded successfully but ViewChart is unable to detect the request.

ServletContext context = config.getServletContext();
RequestDispatcher rd = context.getRequestDispatcher("/ViewCart");
rd.forward(request,response);
Both ViewChart and ProcessChart are in the same directory. By the way, i am using tomcat 3.2.1

Could you check the server.xml under conf for the following
<RequestInterceptor
className="org.apache.tomcat.request.InvokerInterceptor"
debug="0" prefix="/servlet/" />
if it is the case, may be you should use "/servlet/ViewCart" instead of "/ViewCart".

Your previous tabs will not re-open or be available to re-open when starting Firefox if:

Updated Firefox 18.0.2: Homepage and all other websites will not load anymore, tab remains a blank page. I tried resetting, checking firewall, to no avail.

When I start firefox, instead of loading the homepage, firefox displays a blank page with "New Tab" as its title. If I try to open a new tab and try to enter ANY website it will show it's loading for a second, stop, and remain at the same situation, a blank page with "New Tab" as its title. Other browsers work perfectly fine.
I tried running firefox in safe mode, disabling all plug-ins and extensions, checking my firewall, resetting firefox... all to no avail. Please help!

hello, when this is happening immediately after an update, then it's almost certainly your firewall that is blocking the new version. please try to remove all rules for firefox from your firewall settings and let it detect the new version again. you may also want to try restarting your pc once...

After march 25th 2011 see blank page of hotmail, gmail chat is not working

On monday, 28th of March 2011 after starting Firefox when tried to go to gmail received warning 'This connection is untrusted' and added this site as exception (i saw this warning too many times last couple days). After that logged in to gmail, chat was not working and button 'more' was not working as well. Also, cannot login to hotmail - see blank page. I went thru gmail support and googled. Cookies cleared, addons uninstalled, refresh pressed, restarted, computer date and time is correct, completely uninstalled Firefox several times, tried versions 3.6.13, 3.6.16 and now the same situation with Firefox 4. Also checked dom.storage.enable which is true. Nothing did help. Anyway, everything working with IE fine, and, sure, everything was perfect week ago.
After some searches found article, that was something changed with sertificates on March 25th. I think it is somehow connected to my problem. Here are the articles:

Also, when I check this post several times a day, I always see warning 'Connection is untrust'. If I close browser and reopen immediately everything is ok.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Assembly of pdfs - "insufficent data for an image" and blank page

Hello.
We are using Adobe Livecycle Assembler 8.2 to assemble a set of pdfs uploaded by end-users together with a pdf that our application create. We have been using the assembler and pdf generator for å few years.
Lately we have had a couple of situations that our custoumer is not very happy with.
Situation 1:
Assembly of 5 pdf is sucessful, but when we open the assembled pdf, one page (representing one attachemnt upload by an end-user) is displayed as an blank page. The attachment is correctly displayed in the table of content with a bookmark to the blank page. The first time scrolling over the blank page in Adobe Reader X, a popup with the message "Insufficent data for an image" is shown. Our applications has no knowledge that the assembly is not sucessful, so its difficult to identify the problem. It seems like the pdf is a scanned image (Producer: AXIS 70U Network Document Server). Have also viewed the assembled pdf in another pdf-reader, but still the same blank page and popup.
Situation 2:
Assembly of a few pdfs is sucessful, but when we open the assembled pdf, one page (representing one attachemnt upload by an end-user) is displayed as an blank page. So fare same as situation 1. However, the attachment is not displayed in the table of content and no popup is given when scrolling over the blank page representing the attachment, just a blank page.
I am looking at a way of detecting pdf that would cause these problems (if I can't fix the pdfs). Maybe there is a way (programtically with iText?) to check if the pdf contains fonts and if not, regard it as a scanned image and mark it as problematic (most scanned pdfs are assembled just fine). Earlier on we had another problem when assembly pdfs, we then got an exception "PDFUnsupportedFeatureException: FlateDecode Filter". Our solution was then to use PDF Generator to convert all uploaded pdfs(attachments) to ps, then back to pdf and reassemble. This approch also works in situation 1 and 2. However we have no failing applications with exceptions now... Doing the pdf2ps2pdf for all attachments is very time consuming and not a good solution for our customer.
Do anybody have a clue what is wrong with our pdfs? Is there a way of solving this when doing the assembly? Any DDX-tags that might do anything nice?
The data in the pdfs are sensitive information, so I can't attach them to this post. Can send the metadata if requested.
Any response would be appreciated.

Haven't seen that error before. How are you converting the data after the function call if at all, i.e., are you moving to an XSTRING before handing it off to the web app?
The things I would suggest which may be stating the obvious are:
- Download the PDF locally after conversion with GUI_DOWNLOAD and check for the error
- Does the same issue occur with program RSTXPDFT4 or fm RSPO_RETURN_SPOOLJOB or a SAPOffice (direct) conversion?
- Remove the logo and try and/or take the original logo, reconvert it to BMP and upload it again in SE78
- What happens if you change the destination device in the call, if anything?
- Does OSS note 1320163 apply?

Glitches in ePub File Not Detectable in Pages Prior to Exporting

Greetings. I am using an updated version of Pages to create a file to be exported as an ePub. The exported file as an ePub is fine when viewed on my iPod Touch as an iBook. However, the ePub/iBook contains some blank pages that I did not insert. Whether in portrait or landscape mode, there are blank pages that should not exist. Again and again, I have deleted blank spaces at the top and bottom of pages in Pages, but the resulting ePub (displayed as an iBook on my iPod Touch) still has blank pages. When I view the pre-EPUB file in Pages, I cannot and do not detect any blank pages.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can create an eventual ePub in Pages that will more closely reflect the pages and spacings in the actual, pre-EPUB file?

P.S. The few images are inline, etc., etc., and the table of contents is fine, accurate, and functional, except that it displays or lists "section" in places that I did not mark up or stylize as "sections" in Pages.

I wouldn't use Sigil myself. Perhaps you should go back to basics. You seem to be formatting your ePub incorrectly somewhere. I suggest you create a short document of say 16 pages, set it up afresh, using similar chapter headings, subheadings and text paragraph styles as the original, inserting the images inline, trying out the various Anchored Objects Options as so on. Keep testing the output using the IDPF Validator and viewing the ePub on the iBooks reader (if you’re using a Mac). You’ll then discover the various ways of formatting the book to get the effect you want. When I open a previous version inDesign file (CS5.5) I see a blank page.

I have a problem opening indesign files. I have CS6. When I open a previous version indesign file CS55.5 I see a blank page.

Can't attach files in any email AOL, yahoo, or company. Also only shows blank page when accessing yahoo email.

In any web mail program AOL, Yahoo, my companies you can not attach files when composing an email. By the attach button/icon it says "no file selected" (or when you hover over it). This happens in safe mode also. Also browser speed is very slow. After logging in to my yahoo mail I get a blank page. In the title bar it says I have x amount of emails.
I reinstalled Firefox and for about 60 seconds it was fast and yahoo opened fine and I was able to attach emails in yahoo and my company account. After that it reverted back to being slow and not attaching and opening yahoo to a blank page.
I have run spybot and malware and removed all found threats. I believe something is infecting Firefox. IE and Chrome do not have this problem. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

antivirus was not a problem since there was not one installed. Firewall settings are fine. I did just finally resolve this issue. Spyhunter was able to detect a couple of hijackers that the other programs did not and this fixed the problem. As I stated in the original post I did suspect this was the issue. The lesson learned is to run multiple malware programs until you find one that eliminates the problem if you suspect malware as the problem.

Cannot load any site, it seems loading and then appears a blank page "untitled"

Everything was working properly and i used mozilla to view internet sites, and then one day i double clicked the shortcut icon to run mozilla as always, waiting to load the default homepage that i had set, and all i saw was a blank page "untitled", and every attempt to fix it hasn't worked, all i have managed was once to remove the programme download it again and re-install it, it worked properly but the next time i tryed to use mozilla it happened the same thing.

Internet Explorer is opening itself with blank pages

About two weeks ago, I was on my laptop when my buddy thought it to be funny when he started pressing a number of random keys on my keyboard. When he did this my computer screen froze and I had to restart the computer. When it came back on I tired to get
onto Internet Explorer. I opened it and it came up a blank page, and wouldn't let me put anything into the address bar and nothing but a white screen comes up.
Now two weeks later the Internet Explorer page is popping up on it's own and the page is still blank. Plus the pages are popping up about five at a time. This is become a very frustrating issue, especially since I just got this laptop a couple months ago.
Is there anything that I can do to fix this issue without having to take it somewhere? I'm not very IT capable, but I now normally enough to get through small issue, but not this time. Any help would be great!

Do you have other browsers, same issue were found on these browses or only IE was faced with this issue.
First run a security scan. If nothing was detected, reset IE for a test.
You can also go to Control Panel->Action Center->Troubleshooting->View All
Then choose Internet Explorer Performace in the list (it is not included in some windows versions). It will begin to fix you IE. if it doesn’t correct, please paste the diag repot here.
Check Event Viewer to find related error information.

My printer is printing the page and approximately 10 seconds later spits out a blank page.   When I am printing multiple copies they print and then there is a blank second page. I have HP paper. By the way my printer is only 3 weeks old. I have cleaned the rollers, no paper jam...Started out of the blue. I have tried printing current page only....printing selection only...this is a pain and I expect more out of a new product. Was in love with it until now. I cannot even make it print a test page from the control panel.

Welcome to the HP Community ,  I noticed your post about your Officejet 6100 now printing out blank pages after changing the ink cartridges, and wanted to reach out to you with my own suggestions. I would say to have a look at the guide below and try the troubleshooting steps to see if they can clear up the blank page printing concern. You can also power reset the printer and make sure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power. If the issue continues, please contact HP directly to see about a replacement printer if the printer is still under warranty, and if not, perhaps they may have a trade in option.
