Determine ICC output profile (name) in PDF/X output intent
Hi all,
I have a PDF of which I need to determine the ICC output profile (name) of the PDF/X output intent. This is what I have in the 'content stream':
<</Metadata 6 0 R/OutputIntents[<</DestOutputProfile 7 0 R/Info(OFCOM. ISO 12647-2:2004 / Amd 1, Offset commercial and specialty printing according to ISO 12647-2, paper type 1 or 2 \(gloss or matte coated offset, 115 g/m2\), screen frequency 60/cm.)/OutputConditionIdentifier(FOGRA39)/RegistryName(http://www.color.org)/S/GTS_PDFX/Type/OutputIntent>>]
How can I, based on this information, determine what the name of the ICC profile in the PDF/X output intent is? Adobe Acrobat's output preview tells me that is should say / find ''ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)'.
Thanks in advance.
Didier
Thanks! Thought it would be something in that direction. Any tools or libraries you might know that can be used to extract and parse this kind of information (as part of a preflight process or something else)? Adobe tools for instance?

Can I print to AdobePDF with a pre-determined output file name?
I have a list of PDF files that I need to reduce in size. I have tried many combinations of Adobe's "Save As Reduced PDF", "Save As Optimized PDF", as well as several compression programs. The best results I've found have been to print the PDF via AdobePDF, using the standard quality settings.
This leads me to my problem. It's simple to batch the print process to print multiple files to AdobePDF, however each one requires the user to specify the output file name. Is there a way to interface with the AdobePDF tool in a way that the output file name is already determined? I.e. passed into the program as an argument? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
EDIT: Under the Adobe PDF Settings, the option for Adobe PDF OUtput Folder is set for Prompt for Adobe PDF filename. There is also an option to dump to Documents\*.pdf, which retains the original filename. Is there a way to specify a different directory, rather than Documents, while retaining the *.pdf argument? Again, thank you.You would probably get better results printing from Acrobat. The HTMLLoader rasterizes the image first. You could possibly add a JavaScript function inside the PDF that prints and call that from your AIR app.
See http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/scripting_pdf.html for information on calling JS functions in a pdf file from AIR. -
ICC v4 profiles converted to v2 profiles when exporting to PDF X4
When will ICC v4 profiles be supported? Is this a InDesign or PDF issue?
Think I have, with the help of a couple of ICC/PDF guys, solved this. I was exporting to PDF X1a. This standard does not support v4 ICC profiles. I have now exported the same file using PDF X4, and the v4 ICC profile is used correctly. So the PDF output engine does accept v4 profiles, if the PDF x standard supports them.

Get ICC Profile name of image in INDD
Hi,
How I can get the Profile name associated to a RGB/CMYK image in InDesign?
The properties profile of image return Embedded instaed of name of ICC profile (Example Adobe RGB (1998)).
From link palette this info is available...
StefanoHi,
I found the solution using the power of Sips:
try
set pathImmagine to "Snow Leopard:Users:stefano:Desktop:roman16_06_yellow.tif"
set profileName to do shell script "sips -g profile " & quoted form of (POSIX path of pathImmagine) & " | fgrep profile | sed 's/ profile: //g'"
on error msg number errnum
set profileName to "ND"
end try
Very fast even with big images.
But like Adobe as added the intelligent new Parent page property, this property must be added in InDesign

Epson R1900 and iCC/iCM profiling...when do you give up?
I'm using Windows 7 64bit (non-SP1) and Lightroom 3.3 with a Epson R1900 printer.
Sorry if this is winded, but I've tried a lot myself and had to break down and post here.
I've read a lot of posts already about disabling color management in the printer or in LR 3.3. I've downloaded all possible profiles from Epson or other places that sound logical enough to help with my specific paper. I understand that my screen could be too bright or too dark and lightroom's interface itself could even give the impression of a photo being too bright or dark. I've read about iCC profiling twice, first in software then in the printer. I've used a Spyder3 Print SR and Spyder 3 screen calibrator.
No matter what combintation I try, my photos print too dark of course, but even worse, the color is really off (more than the brightness). Also, I understand there is a lot of printers so it can be hard giving exact toggles in options that might not even exist with ones printer.
Now I'm not nearly as educated as most of you on these issues, so I'm going to ask some questions (sorry if they seem "newbish").
First, I understand (or currently am under the impression) that Lightroom uses something called "MelissaRBG or a.k.a "BastardRGB" to print to the screen (?). If this is true, shouldn't the exporting iCC profile be MelissaRGB.icc? Now if this is true, shouldn't the Host (Win7) look different being set at sRGB than that to what is in Lightroom? It doesn't on my system. So again if this Melissa profile is true, does Lightroom only export in MelissaRGB between the print to screen and whatever given .icc profile you have chosen to export in? In other words, is there only a handshake happening with Melissa.
Second, where does the host .icc start and end. I assume since Lightroom does not come packaged with drivers for every possible graphics card, that the host's color manager has to pass off a matrix for colors to the Lightroom software.
Third, being that the above 2 questions might be out of a users simplistic control and that I can't see what I'm doing wrong, should one just use the basic controls of the printer module? In my case the best prints I get are when I use the printers modules color manager of "Epson Vivid" with a +10 in brightness and +4 in saturation. Of course, this isn't going to help when I want to print to canvas or may other paper types. However, all the profiling in the world with my Spyder3 Print SR might be correct, but I'll never know because the prints always come out way off.
All the trying and failure make me feel like the guy who is barely qualified to make small rocks from a boulder, just give me a hammer. Should I just give up and let it rip with sliders and keep my eyes closed?
By the way, there is really very little found easily through search engines that explain how the profiling should be SET UP on a computer in specific pratice . But yes, there is A LOT that want to walk you through the math and theory of it all, just not how any particular software handles it, not even the operating system.Just checking off a few things. You may have done all this and some has been said before, I'm just trying for the complete list:
I think you're saying you've calibrated your monitor with Spyder 3. As a check, when you check the profile in W7 control panel, it will show the profile you've created with Spyder 3 as the default for the monitor (if not, something's wrong)
I'm not familiar with Spyder 3 software, but does it give you the option of setting screen brightness? It should be 100-120 cd/m2. No more. If you can't set it in the Spyder s/w, try turning the brightness down and recalibrating with Spyder. You can also use the "Colorimetre HCFR" software (http://www.homecinema-fr.com/colorimetre/index_en.php) to measure profile parameters, including brightness.
Another check on brightness: get a piece of blank printer paper, and with normal room lighting hold it near your monitor when displaying something white. Does the screen look significantly brighter than the paper? If so, it may be too bright. Modern monitors are way too bright by default. My HP monitor brightness is set to 15 out of 100 to get 100 cd/m2.
When printing from LR, select in the "Print Job" area (bottom right in print module) "profile: SPR1900 Premium Glossy", or whatever the profile name is for the paper you're using (I'm guessing the name, I have an R1800). This is telling LR to colour-mange the printer, and telling it which profile to use.
Click Page Setup... (bottom L) and set the paper type in the Epson dialogue. Click Advanced (I think it's a separate tab in R1900, it's a button in Main tab on R1800) and in "Colour management" check ICM and (very important) check "Off (No Color Adjustment)". I'm not sure with the R1900, but on the Main tab, you may also have to "Mode: custom" and "No Color Adjustment" in the drop down. This is telling the printer driver that:
colour management is being used (so don't mess with the colours to make them "pretty", which it would otherwise do)
colour management is being done by the application, not the driver (in other words, telling the driver not to do anything itself)
The important thing is that colour management of the printer should be done in one place only. The method above gets it done in LR, you can also turn it off in LR and use the driver, but I recommend the steps above.
If all that's OK, it ought to work. Printed output is never going to be identical to the screen - they're different physical representations of the image - but colour should be fairly close.
You mentioned LR using a form of ProPhoto colour space as its working space. That's not an issue. It's just a convenience for LR, and has absolutely no bearing on the output. The only point is that the working space should be at least as large as the original image colour space, the monitor colour space and the printer colour space (so it's not limiting the colour). LR automatically converts the image to:
the monitor colour space when displaying images (provided you have an appropriate profile set for the monitor, which should be done by spyder 3)
the printer colour space, which you specify when you print, remembering to set the driver as above. -

I think some basis related configuartions to be done
Try like this and inform me
A cyclic job runs, which processes the messages seen in the SOST queue.
Are you sure it's not the frequency of the cyclic job, rather than the
number of messages in the queue, that you are observing? In messages
that are queued and before the cyclic job runs, "wait for comm. service"
is the normal status.
If you mean that there are always 4 items queued in SOST regardless of
the cyclic send job, then I have no ideas. I would have thought there
was no way to do that.
when the send job runs it just never
picks them up & sends them, while it picks up many others. The send job
is somehow blind to these; no error message occurs. In this case, I
'delete' them from the queue (in SOST) and then 'undelete' (drop down
menu -> /Go to /Deleted Items) them and then re-queue them. THEN they
actually get picked up & sent when the next cyclic send job executes.

Bridge CS6: Output to Web or PDF - insufficient disk space..
I have recently installed the CS6 cloud version of Bridge, but now get this error when trying to produce (or refresh) a contact sheet using Output to Web or PDF - There is insufficient disk space to complete this operation
The error occurs no matter what the file size is, or if multiple of single files are selected - and as the sole application open. I'm running the application in OS X 10.8, with 8GB of RAM and 512MB of VRAM, so disk space doesn't seem to be the issue?
I've just installed the lastest Bridge update, but this has made no difference. Thanks for your feedback in advance..I've found an old post which highlights a USERS folder conflict?
Without any significant knowledge about working over a network I do know Bridge uses a Cache file on a user related base. So it might be possible it confuses the two folders if you have both company and private network based on the same user name.
But as said, just a wild guess. If you need to work over a network try the blog from the Image Archivist, he also used to hang around here in the past:
http://imagearchivist.blogspot.nl -
Good evening dear experts,
i use Adobe Acrobat 9 pro extend to convert word, ppt, jepgs etc. into pdfs.
No if i
1) convert a ppt into a pdf: it asks --> "save as" --> converts --> opens the file
2) convert a jpeg into a pdf: it instantly --> opens the file as pdf --> i need to save it manual under "save as"
In both cases i want to
my goal: "convert into pdf" --> the file is instantly saved with the same name as pdf
WITHOUT asking me "save as" + "opening of the file".
Is the possible, and if yes, HOW ?
A fast answer is very very much appreciated, for i have to convert hundreds of files tonight in order to get it into 1 pdf
Thx and greetings from Germany,
JuliaWe are nearly there!
A] - righclick "convert-to-method": @Bill: thx again, your approach worked for ppt, doc-files etc.
2 problems:
1) exception: for jpegs/bmps it doesn't work (the file is still opened after conversion, strange).
2) the output-folder. it only accepts the standard "output-folder documents/*.pdf" (which is a step further but not my end-goal). If i choose another output-folder via "browse", this setting is NOT SAVED (even after clicking on "accept" + "ok").
my goal: the the file should be automatically saved in THE SAME folder the original file is in (seems that can't be achieved and the standard folder is the only thing where to convert in?).
Personal background for understanding: i have many folders with several ppts in it. Once i send it out to a customer, i always have to convert it into a pdf. thats why i want to save time (i know that i can convert it directly + send per mail, but i want an up-to-date copy of the pdf in the folder as well).
B] - "the automated solution"- @Sandeep:
i just watched your link http://tv.adobe.com/watch/acrobat-tips-and-tricks/automating-tasks-in-acrobat/
about batch processing and i think its really helpful if i want to convert ALL of the files in one folder.
1 question regarding this: are the subfolders also affected?
As i understood from the video, i choose 1 "watched folder" and a "destination folder" (can be the same). E.g i have 1 big folder "designs" with many subfolders. I create a batch converting ppts to pdf to "the same folder" Once i run my batch, it converts ppts in the chosen folder "designs" + all subfolders into the same folder, right?
If this is the case, i get too many pdfs, for i only need the latest ppt-version to be converted (copies of old ppts are also in the files) ;(.
Do you have an idea how can i solve this?
Now we are very near to the end-solution of my goal:
i need this option "to the same folder" in my general settings when i convert a file via right-click. ATM it only works with the standard-folder documents/*.pdf
In A], my files are now instantly saved with the same name in 1 specific folder. I would be completely happy, if this folder would be alwys the same as the one with the original file (and not 1 specific folder)
2nd problem with a]: it does not apply to picture files (bmp, jpegs..)
So if we could solve this, i would be a completely happy girl
Guys, you are great, thx again for the whole struggle with my concerns!! -
Setting output file name in export transaction data package
Hi all,
I am running an "export transaction data" package in the data manager. I wanted to set the output file name so that it will be a constant value. I wrote the following in the package editor:
INFO(%FILE%,\ROOT\WEBFOLDERS\COLMOBIL\VEHICLES1\DATAMANGER\DATAFILES\vehicles_to_pca2.txt)
TASK(/CPMB/TD_FILE_TARGET,FULLFILENAME,%FILE%)
The system run the package and reported success but the file was not created. When i did the same with an existing file name, it was not updated.
When I run the same package with the following PROMPT command instead of the INFO command:
PROMPT(OUTFILE,,"Please enter an output file",Data files (*.txt)|*.txt|All files(*.*)|*.*)
The system works fine.
Any ideas?
TIA
AvihayI am sad to report that apparently Adobe does not do a very good job with the PDF printer. I have just spent over an hour with support to get the answer we can not help you. I guess I will have to spend $50 for NovaPDF to handle my problem. It's a shame when a superior overall product like Acrobat is not able to keep up with the knockoffs on the small things.

Output file name in publication object
Hello,
I trying to change the default delivery behavior of publication object via C#.
I have a publication object which contain some source reports (CR 2008) and CR report which is the dynamic recipient source.
I need to retrieve full file name and path of output report from dynamic recipient source (e.g. C:\Myfolder\Recipient_ID\recipient_name.doc), and retrieve only file name from dynamic recipient source and send file via email (e. g. recipient_name.doc)
I also want to manipulate some additional parameters from dynamic recipient source like report date (not start date of publication). Default behavior of CMC is that I have only few placeholders.
Can I do it programatically?
Thanks.Hi Leon.
I have the same trouble with publication filename.
How can I proceed to assign dinamicaly a filename to a bobj publication?
I have some crystal Reports that take data from SAP Queries.
And I have joined together the crystals in one publication on the BOBJ portal.
My problem start when I try to assign a filename to the PDF result of the publication.
The options I have are not sufficient because I need it to be according to the filter of the SAP queries,
just to know exactly by the filename, what's the Crystal PDF result about.
I have that descriptions in a SAP queryable infoobject.
Is it possible to do what I want.
Please how can I proceed or how could I do something similar. -
How to programmatically disable prompts for output file names in Acrobat X
My code to programmatically disable output file names (below) is not working on a Windows 7 64-bit machine using Acrobat Distiller X. It works perfectly on a Windows XP machine with Acrobat Distiller 8.
The latest API Reference I was able to find is dated June 2008. My logic follows this convention.
I have confirmed that the registry key is updated as specified below. I have also confirmed that I am able to write to the directory indicated.
Please provide any suggestions to resolve.
Thank You!

Including CMYK profile in InDesign PDF Export
Hi,
I'm trying to export from InDesign a pdf file, which includes embedded profiles both in RGB and CMYK images. There are two linked images in my INDD layout, one embedded with RGB profile and another with CMYK profile.
In Output I have the settings NO COLOR CONVERSION.
When in PROFILE INCLUSION POLICY I try to include profiles to images, I only can have the CMYK profile with the setting INCLUDE ALL PROFILES. But with that setting also native CMYK elements like text will be tagged with a profile, and that I do not want to have.
With the RGB image the profile is included.
Question # 1: Why do not CMYK profiles will be included with the settings: INCLUDE TAGGED SOURCE PROFILES and INCLUDE ALL RGB AND TAGGED CMYK SOURCE PROFILES??? According to the help they should do that.
Question #2: Is the item CREATE TAGGED PDF in the GENERAL tab related to this somehow?
Best Regards
Erkki HIf you choose Include All RGB and Tagged Source CMYK Profiles any placed CMYK objects that have profiles that match the document's CMYK profile are considered Device CMYK, and no conversion is necessary at output. So in this PDF I have the same image profiled with the document's GRACol CMYK profile (top) and US Newsprint (bottom). Acrobat's Output Preview tells me that the top image is Device CMYK (it matches the PDF/X Output Intent) and the bottom image has the US Newsprint profile:
The bottom image sampled
But with that setting also native CMYK elements like text will be tagged with a profile, and that I do not want to have.
If you don't use the PDF/X-4 standard and change the output to Include All Profiles then all color including native ID colors gets profiled. In that case my top image would have the GRACol profile and as you noted any native colors would also be profiled.
I'm not following why placed image color should be profiled, but a native ID color shouldn't? -
Soft-Proofing with .icc color profiles
Hello!
I'm currently working on a book in InDesign. I've calibrated my monitor with X-rite, and have installed an .icc profile from my outside printer (Blurb Books). Of course when I use it to soft-proof, I see a change on my monitor, so if I dion't like what I see (how it will print), I would have to go back to my working space and make changes, etc and keep rechecking. This seems so weird to me yet nowhere in all the forums and internet have I run across an answer to my question:
Why not just work entirely in this .icc profile so one doesn't have to go back and forth? You'd see immediately what you're going to get, even though it may not look as pretty on the monitor set in another color space?
It seems so obvious to me that I know I must be missing something here (as I usually do the obvious), as no-one has addressed it that I can find, anywhere, even Blurb support. They don't even understand what I'm asking!
thanks! In fact, that is one perfectly valid method of working, and I would not have a problem at all using that profile as the working space in ID (I have a number of printer supplied profiles that I rotate, depending onthe destination of the job). But there's a downside to working on images in a device-specific output space. It limits your ability to use the same image in multiple output scenarios, and many (most) output profiles have a smaller gamut (sometimes significantly smaller) than a device-independent RGB space like Adobe RGB, so you lose some colors. That's going to happen no matter what when you convert for output, but if you do your editing and save in the output space, those losses are permanent, even if you later want to ooutput on a different device with larger gamut capability. Profile-to-profile conversion never adds new colors.

The query works but the other way. The output is for all the targets, not for the respective target which we select from :p1_target.
select target_name,target_type, column_label,

from sysman.MGMT$TARGET_METRIC_SETTINGS@crmodem
