Determining HostName / DomainName

What is the easiest way to determine the domain Name and the hostName that
an application maybe
using !?!
I do NOT want to HARDCODE it in the web.xml files and would like a simple
way to determine this.
Thanks in advance!

Hi!
I saw that this is your first post - so a warm welcome to you in the great world of the Oracle Application Server.
Please take the time to describe your problems a little more detailed, as this took me some guesswork.
It seems that you want to have the SSO on HTTPS. There are a lot of configuration steps needed, especially when dealing with the Oracle EBS.
So - in order to help - please tell us what you have already done and we might even help you better.

  • Didadm: unable to determine hostname.  error on Sun cluster 4.0 - Solaris11

    Trying to install Sun Cluster 4.0 on Sun Solaris 11 (x86-64).
    iscs sharedi Quorum Disk are available in /dev/rdsk/ .. ran
    devfsadm
    cldevice populate
    But don't see DID devices getting populated in /dev/did.
    Also when scdidadm -L is issued getting the following error. Has any seen the same error ??
    - didadm: unable to determine hostname.
    Found in cluster 3.2 there was a Bug 6380956: didadm should exit with error message if it cannot determine the hostname
    The sun cluster command didadm, didadm -l in particular, requires the hostname to function correctly. It uses the standard C library function gethostname to achieve this.
    Early in the cluster boot, prior to the service svc:/system/identity:node coming online, gethostname() returns an empty string. This breaks didadm.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction to get past this issue with shared quorum disk DID.

    Let's step back a bit. First, what hardware are you installing on? Is it a supported platform or is it some guest VM? (That might contribute to the problems).
    Next, after you installed Solaris 11, did the system boot cleanly and all the services come up? (svcs -x). If it did boot cleanly, what did 'uname -n' return? Do commands like 'getent hosts <your_hostname>' work? If there are problems here, Solaris Cluster won't be able to get round them.
    If the Solaris install was clean, what were the results of the above host name commands after OSC was installed? Do the hostnames still resolve? If not, you need to look at why that is happening first.

  • Setting hostname,domainname and static IP address

    Hi,
    I have an issue regarding hostname and domainname on Oracle Linux 5.4.
    I followed the steps given on this link for Oracle Linux 5.4 installation.
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/OracleEnterpriseLinux5Installation.php
    As per the snapshots and guidelines given on this link,I should have been asked to configure network interface.
    But It didn't show me the screens shown in steps 16,17 and 18 where I could have entered hostname,domainname,IP etc.
    And when I checked after installation,it showed me
    hostname
    localhost.localdomain
    and
    domainname
    (none)
    That's because it took DHCP network configuration automatically(Correct me if i am wrong!!).
    Although I am going to turn it's currnet DHCP assigneed IP into static IP.
    Now,as I am going to have to install Oracle E-Business suite on this platform,I must have hostname,domainname and IP set properly.
    Please guide me how I can set these three things(hostname,domainname and IP) permenantly.
    Also should I turn its current DHCP IP into static IP before changing hostname and domainname or after it?
    Thanks,
    Rushi

  • How to determine hostname or IP addr. of server we loaded from?

    Hi All,
    Does anyone know of a reliable way of determining the IP
    addr. or hostname of the server that the Flex app. was launched
    from? My application needs to make a connection back to the server,
    but the server could be at various IP addresses / host names.
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Thanks for my response, but my situation is that I develop my
    apps on one machine and run the back end services on that same
    machine in a testing environment. So when testing I want to connect
    to localhost for debugging. But when deployed on the real server
    the Flex app. should connect to servername, the real hostname of
    the server it's deployed at. I can't yet figure out how to have
    Flex determine the name of the host from which it was
    launched.

  • Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery using wrong domainname command?

    Does the Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery use the Wrong domainname command? It uses domainname, should it be using dnsdomainname?
    The script is found in this MOS note: Prerequisite script for Exadata Discovery in Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c [ID 1473912.1]
    My System administrator wrote "what the precheck script says it is watching out for, is NOT what it’s checking, and what it is checking is NOT needed.
    They say they need the “domain name” to be set, but what they’re checking is the NIS domain name. This is echoed in the man page for “domainname” …
    The man page even has a warning NOT to use “domainname” to check the DNS domain"
    So is the pre-check script wrong, or is the running OEM/agents/discoverer going to look for the apparently doaminname set value within a NIS construct?
    The sysadmins are trying to avoid having anything set with NIS, for fear it confuses a new admin or consultant.
    Thanks in advance for your thoughts. -- Shaun
    PS, if it is wrong, how do we get it corrected with Oracle?

    This answer came in from the Oracle Support Community via an Oracle employee:
    According to a remark that is attached to the note that you mention, your concerns are correct:
    "domainname" command does indeed return NIS domainname.
    The DNS domain name that we actually want to use should be checked by "dnsdomainname" command.
    [root@hostname ~]# dnsdomainname
    hostname.example.com
    [root@hostname ~]# domainname
    (none)
    [root@hostname ~]# domainname -h
    Usage: hostname [-v] hostname set hostname (from file)
    domainname [-v] nisdomain set NIS domainname (from file)
    hostname [-v] [-d|-f|-s|-a|-i|-y|-n] display formatted name
    hostname [-v] display hostname
    The response to the remark explains that we are testing this in our internal environment. We have found one issue with this check. The NOTE authors plan to upload the new version of the script when the updated script is fully tested.
    At your service,
    Dave M.

  • Adcfgclone.pl dbTier not detecting hostname

    Hello friends,
    I'm trying to make clone of production environment but on target DB Tier adcfgclone.pl terminates at 50%.
    On running adcfgclone.pl the script is not able to detect my hostname by default. If I'm providing fully qualified hostname with domain name the process is running further but if I'm providing only hostname then the process is prompting me for domain name, on providing domain name it doesn't continue and show error like it can't resolve domain name and is not able to create context file.
    The hostname OS command is showing me the machine's fully qualified hostname, I've proper entries in /etc/hosts file and can also ping DB Tier hostname from Apps Tier.
    I'm able to connect with database and can open and shutdown it but listener is not working. Lsnrctl start command shows "Connect failed because target host or object does not exist".
    Moreover "nslookup" command is not working too but it's an old machine we had successfully cloned before but this time it is showing this error. Further on Apps Tier I give a try to run adcfgclone.pl and it is able to detect its hostname. The problem is only on DB Tier.
    Please help!
    Configuration: EBS 12.1.1, DB 11.1.0.7, Linux 5 (VM machine).
    Thanks & Regards
    Aneel Ahmed

    Aneel,
    Please verify your target OS settings/files for the hostname/domainname and make sure it's like the ones mentioned in (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86-64 (Doc ID 761566.1)).
    If "nslookup" (and other OS utilities) are not working then you need to install the required packages -- For example, for nslookup please see http://www.webplay.pro/linux/centos/how-to-install-dig-host-and-nslookup-bind-utils-on-centos.html

  • Error while opening a form after R12 install

    Hi,
    I have installed EBS R12.0.4 on linux. The install is successful and i am able to login. But when I am trying to open a forms session I am getting an error "Unknown plugin (application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.5.0_13)". I am using Mozilla Firefox 3 beat 5. The browser is unable to find the java plugin required to open a forms based session.
    Can anyone let me know the reason & provide the steps to install the required plugin?
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
    You need to have a valid entry in the hosts file (under %Windows%\system32\drivers\etc directory) as follows:
    <IP Address> <hostname.domainname>
    IP Address: is the IP Address of the machine where Oracle Apps is installed
    hostname.domainname: is the hostname and the domaninname where Oracle Apps is installed
    From IE, add the application URL to the trusted sites list and access the login page from the following URL:
    http://<hostname>.<domainname>:<port>/OA_HTML/AppsLogin
    To access the application from Firefox, install the missing plugin from the following URL, then you should be able to access the application using the URL posted above.
    http://<hostname>:<port>/OA_HTML/oaj2se.exe
    If you have Metalink access, please refer to the note referenced in my previous reply for more details.

  • How to Restore E-Business Suite after Server Crash?

    Hi Hussein Sawwan,
    I have a question that will be useful to other members of the community. How do I restore Oracle E-Business Suite R12 after physically loosing the server that hosts the ERP instance?
    I have 2 scenarios here:
    1-Existing cold backups of the DbTier and AppsTier are available
    I have been doing a full backup of the Apps and Inst folders once a week on an external drive.
    I have been copying the DB folder (Data + DBMS_ORACLE_HOME) after shutting down the database cleanly once a week on an external drive. Noting that, here the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
    2-Existing Hot backups of the Database are available and I have a backup of the Apps and Inst folders (AppsTier)
    The database is in archivelog here. I have been doing a full hot backup of the database once a week, an Incremental backup everyday, and a full backup of the archivelogs once a week. All of this to an external drive. The Apps and Inst folders are backed up once a week to an external drive.
    Let say something bad happens and we completely loose the physical server. How can I do to restore and recover my Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to a new server?
    I know I will have to Install the same OS on the new server, but what happens after that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Clamarion.

    I believe the easiest approach would be:
    - Install the same OS on the new servers
    - Install OS pre-req software and packages for your EBS instance
    - Restore from cold backup (if the crash happened directly after this backup and you haven't lost any data)
    OR,
    - Restore from hot backup (if the crash happened after your cold backup and you have data that wasn't part of the cold backup)
    I assume that no changes to the hostname, domainname, IP Address, port numbers, directory structure, ..etc is taking place in this restore.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Need help with URL Redirect in Sun Web Server 7 u5

    All I am trying to do is redirect to a static URL and for the life of me I can not get it to behave the way I would expect. I am new to Sun Web Server so I am just trying to use the Admin Console to set this up.
    Here is what I'm trying to do:
    Redirect from - http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=2154
    To - http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    Here's what I tried in the console.
    Added a new URL Redirect
    Set the Source to be Condition and set it to: '^/store_id=2154$' (quotes included)
    Then set the Target to: http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    Then for the URL Type I checked Fixed URL
    When I tested with: http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=2154 it did redirect as desired
    BUT
    When I tested with: "http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=5555" it too got redirected to the Target and I can't figure out how this second URL can satisfy the condition to get redirected.
    Any help is most appreciated.

    thanks for choosing sun web server 7
    it is simpler if you just edit the configuration files manually
    cd <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/config/
    edit obj.conf or <hostname>-obj.conf (if there is one for you depending on your configuration so that it look something like)
    <Object name="default">
    AuthTrans..
    #add the folllowing line here
    <If defined $query>
    <If $urlhost =~ "/oldsite.com" and
    $uri =~ "/store/store.html" and
    $query =~ "store_id=2154" >
    NameTrans fn="redirect" from="/" http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    </If>
    </If>
    ..rest of the existing obj.conf. continues
    NameTrans...
    now, you can either do <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/bin/reconfig -> to reload your configuration without any server downtime or <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/bin/restart -> to restart the server
    if it did work out for your, you will need to run the following so that admin server is aware of what you just did
    <ws7-install-root>/bin/wadm pull-config user=admin config=<hostname> <hostname.domainname>
    hope this helps

    But when i remove the 's' from https:_ and press enter i get the login page.Once i Login with the credentials also it is again re-directed to the https:hostname.domainame_.
    Again only if i remove the 's' from (https:hostname.domainame) and press Enter do i get the responsibility page.This is happening each and every time when i click on responsibility its re-directed to https: link and i need to remove the 's' from https and press Enter to get the responsibility displayed.
    Can anyone help me out with this issue.

  • Java 8 64 bit on Windows with NSS for FIPS 140 compliance

    I have asked this question on Stackoverflow but I am beginning to think that this may be a better forum to ask.
    According to JEP 131, Java 8 should provide a PKCS#11 Crypto provider for 64 bit Windows:  https://blogs.oracle.com/mullan/entry/jep_131_pkcs_11_crypto.
    With that in mind, I downloaded and built both 32 and 64 bit versions of NSS with NSPR using these instructions:  https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/NSS_Sources_Building_Testing
    I downloaded Java 8 for Windows 64 build b118, configured the java.security file and created a nss.cfg file:
    Excerpt from java.security file:
    security.provider.1=sun.security.provider.Sun
    security.provider.2=sun.security.rsa.SunRsaSign
    security.provider.3=sun.security.ec.SunEC
    security.provider.4=com.sun.net.ssl.internal.ssl.Provider SunPKCS11-NSS
    security.provider.5=com.sun.crypto.provider.SunJCE
    security.provider.6=sun.security.jgss.SunProvider
    security.provider.7=com.sun.security.sasl.Provider
    security.provider.8=org.jcp.xml.dsig.internal.dom.XMLDSigRI
    security.provider.9=sun.security.smartcardio.SunPCSC
    security.provider.10=sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11 /devel/nss.cfg
    From my nss.cfg file:
    # Use NSS as a FIPS-140 compliant cryptographic token
    # SunPKCS11-NSS
    name = NSS
    #32 bit
    #nssLibraryDirectory = C:\devel\nss\nss-3.15.3.1\dist\WINNT6.1_DBG.OBJ\lib
    #64 bit
    nssLibraryDirectory = C:\devel\nss\nss-3.15.3.1\dist\WINNT6.1_64_DBG.OBJ\lib
    #non FIPS
    #nssDbMode = noDb
    #attributes = compatibility
    #FIPS
    nssSecmodDirectory = c:\devel\fipsdb
    nssModule = fips
    I ran the test suite that comes with NSS and it looks like all of the encryption/decryption tests passed (did have some issues with the tests that required hostname/domainname but that has to do with the Windows environment).
    So here is the problem. I run my test encryption app on Java 7 32 bit with the 32 bit version of NSS and everything works great. When I attempt to run Java 8 64 bit with 64 bit NSS I get the following error:

    Any help or advise about filing a bug report would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Had a few similar short system freezes, after installing Windows 8 x64 on 13” MacBook Pro Mid-2010 with BootCamp 5.0.5033.
    There is a suggestion that DisableDynamicTick may fix the problem: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21565295#21565295. There were similar topics at Microsoft forums: 1, 2, 3. It was said “that this will likely reduce system battery life, so it should be undone when you update your Windows build or if it doesn't resolve your issue”, and that “this problem is resolved in the release versions of Windows 8”.
    Another possibility is that there is indeed a buggy driver, within BootCamp 5.0.5033, or a 3rd party, like a wireless network driver in the following case http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/system-fr eeze-randomly-after-installing-windows-8/49488183-26cf-4389-af21-a85dc366c99a?pa ge=2#LastReply.
    The problem has been noticeable on my MacBook, but not annoying enough yet to spend time troubleshooting. If you find a robust solution, using the links above or other method, it would be interesting to know.

  • Isql*plus is taking too much time to stop

    Hi,
    today encountered one problem...isql*plus is taking hours to stop the process...
    iSQL*Plus 10.2.0.3.0
    Copyright (c) 2003, 2006, Oracle. All Rights Reserved.
    Stopping iSQL*Plus ...
    when i issue the isqlplusctl start....it shows that, process is already running...
    how to encounter this problem..i have gone through the all metalink document regarding this..not helpful...
    I am not able to ge the home page of isqlplus
    http:<hostname.domainname:5560/isqlplus
    how to resolve in this case..I wanted to restart the isqlplus process...but it is taking hours wile doing that job

    - To stop iSQL*Plus, enter the command:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/isqlplusctl stop
    - To verify whether iSQL*Plus process is running, use the following command:
    $ ps -eaf |grep java
    If you have any running processes, use kill command to terminate those processes.
    - To start iSQL*Plus, enter the command:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/isqlplusctl start
    It is worth to review Note: 300547.1 - Troubleshooting Guide for iSQL*Plus issues

  • Oracle 10G Non-Network install - OEM will not start when on the LAN.

    Greetings,
    Got through a non-networked 10G Enterprise installation OK; I chose to create the orcl schema, connected to it through various utilities, added new tablespace, and all was well. I also checked my Host Name by pinging it in DOS, it showed me the IP address of the MS loopback adapter which is what I was expecting.
    Once I connected the same machine to the LAN (and internet) and re-booted, for some reason the Host Name was now assigned the dynamic IP address of the LAN and not LAN2 (which is the loopback adapter that is assigned a static local IP address). It did this even though I had already added an entry in the /etc/hosts file that explicitly assigns a static IP address to the Host Name (as recommended in the Oracle 10G pre-installation instructions). I also could not get the OEM to launch a webpage, run and connect to the orcl database after the re-boot; I am wondering if this is related to the IP address assigned to Host Name changing; maybe the Oracle agent can no longer resolve the URL for some reason?
    In the end I find that the only way to insure I can have a working Oracle environment and be on an active network at the same time, is to bring up the Oracle environment on a standalone system first, and once Oracle is running connect the system to the network. Is there no way to automate this process?
    The format of the hosts file entry recommended by the Oracle 10G pre-installation instructions is as follows:
    ===========================================================
    IP_address hostname.domainname hostname
    where:
    IP_address is the non-routable IP address you entered for the loopback adapter.
    hostname is the name of the computer.
    domainname is the name of the domain.
    For example:
    10.10.10.10 mycomputer.mydomain.com mycomputer
    ==========================================================
    In my case since I am not part of a Windows domain (but am part of a Windows Workgroup), I added an entry in the /etc/host file that looks like the following:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    # For example:
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.168.110.250 IBM-6AB1330E158
    ==> Note that I did not add the domain name to the entry I created since I am not part of a domain, I also used the format I found in the etc/hosts file which is:
    IP_address hostname.domainname
    - not -
    IP_address hostname.domainname hostname
    Which is the format recommended in the Oracle 10G pre-installation instructions; this does leave me wondering which format is correct...
    Thanks in Advance for any help,

    I have not. I am hoping someone (maybe even from Oracle support) will step up and officially tell us we are either right or wrong in the way we are approaching this. From the research I have done on the internet it sounds like this should work, you should be able to have Oracle starting and running fine whether you boot connected to the LAN or not, assuming you have created the MS loopback adapter, assigned it a static IP, and changed the hostname entry in etc/hosts file as part of the 10G WinXP recommended pre-installation instructions.
    And yet I find I have to start Oracle when I am not connected to the LAN or the services will not start correctly. If this is a "feature" then hopefully someone will tell us and maybe give us a workaround or give us an idea if this will be addressed in a future release. Having said that and in fairness to the Oracle product; being a developer I have other products installed on my machine that have special networking setup needs also, and in my case this could be exasperating or even possibly causing this Oracle problem I am having. To be specific I have software for 2 different VPNs installed so I can tunnel into 2 private networks. One of these VPNs require me to make use of a DNS Suffix (as shown below) which might be contributing to my problems, not sure. I also have VMWare installed which uses it own network adapters when it is running, so you can see how things could get a little hairy... at any rate, there is my 2 cents worth (or is that 5 cents? : )
