Developing Mobile Applications for Handhold Wireless Dervices

Hello!!
I am new in this technology and i would like someone to guide me.
I have a project with the following requirements:
--The first task of the application is the user can add some data, for example name, address etc and then to save them in a database which will be running on the mobile device.
--The second step is the user to be able to send the data and save them in an other database on a server machine.
i will use J2ME in order to build the application.
What i would like to know is what technologies i can use for the database of the mobile device where the user will store for the first time his data.
What kind of communication between the mobile device and the server will be the most appropriate (eg bluetooth).
Generally i would like from someone to give me general information about the topic. To guide me.
Please if you know any book that has most of the answers which i am looking or some semilar examples for please let me know.
Thank you in advance!

Hi Shubham,
i meant with backward compatibility form "lower version to work on higher version".
The Subject of the Thread ([Backward Compatibility from Web Dynpro-Java (Mobile7.1) to JSP (Mobile7.0)  |Re: Backward Compatibility from Web Dynpro-Java (Mobile7.1) to JSP (Mobile7.0)]) is confusing but it is already the case "lower version to work on higher version".
I have read in the [Developeru2019s Guide|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/de/8b/0b674240449c60e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm] about the backward compatibility for [Mobile Client for Handhelds|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/de/45/e5f9386f472e98e10000000a155369/content.htm].
NetWeaver Mobile offers three handheld clients (based on AWT, JSP, and eSWT) that all share the same base functionality, such as synchronization, persistence, deployment, logging, security, etc. While the AWT and JSP-based clients support full backward compatibility to mobile applications running in NetWeaver '04 and NetWeaver 2004s, the eSWT-based client offers new, additional features, without providing backward compatibility:
In my research i could not figure out whether this also applies to the laptop client.
Therefore, i would be interested if the backward compatibility of JSP applications also applies for the laptop client.
Thanks and Regards,
Ismet

I want to start building mobile applications for use on my iPhone.  I have little to no experience in software development.  What do I need to do to get started?

Learning to program and then becoming familiar with xcode and objective-C is a long road to travel.  If you google for xcode tutorials and objective-c tutorials, you might find some.  Also, books is another way become familiar with programming for iOS and OSX.  Go to Amazon and search for xcode 4 and for objective-c and Cocoa programming - look for the books with high ratings.

    Hi CV,
Oracle Application Development Framework Mobile (ADF Mobile) browser is a standards-based framework that enables the rapid development of enterprise mobile applications. Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g release 1 of ADF Mobile browser extends Oracle ADF to browsers running on mobile devices. Because ADF Mobile browser is built upon the component model of Java Server Faces (JSF), you can quickly develop applications for mobile browsers. ADF Mobile browser's mobile-specific extensions to JSF enable you to develop mobile applications using the same methodologies for developing JSF applications for the desktop.

  • Developing mobile apps for the blackberry platform

    Hello all
I'm interested in developing mobile apps for the Blackberry smartphone and read that the best way to do it is with Java. Any advice on how to do this?
I would be starting from scratch as I don't have a programming background but am keen to learn. Also can anyone recommend any introductory books that are really good at learning Java?
    Many Thanks
    praetor

    Hi praetor,
    welcome to the SDN.
Programming for a mobile device is sort of advanced and you need to know the basics first. As you have no programming background this is even more important.
Do yourself a favor and forget about the blackberry for a few months and learn programming basics first.
Here are a few links to get you started with the Java SE (Standard Edition, for your local PC, nothing fancy):
    [Sun's basic Java tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/]
    [Sun's New To Java Center|http://java.sun.com/learning/new2java/index.html]
Includes an overview of what Java is, instructions for setting up Java, an intro to programming (that includes links to the above tutorial or to parts of it), quizzes, a list of resources, and info on certification and courses.
    jGuru
A general Java resource site. Includes FAQs, forums, courses, more.
    JavaRanch
To quote the tagline on their homepage: "a friendly place for Java greenhorns." FAQs, forums (moderated, I believe), sample code, all kinds of goodies for newbies. From what I've heard, they live up to the "friendly" claim.

I was wondering what everything I needed to get started developing GPS applications for blackberrys.
It interest me a lot.. and I know C# and some VB. I am wanting to learn so getting a book would be good but just wondering what developer tools I needed to develop this kind of application. I currently have Visual Studio 2008 and I have seen a plug in for it.

If .NET, then have fun with Visual Studio and find yourself a .NET forum because this isn't it. If you're going to want to do this with Java, then go to the Sun tutorial site, find the getting started section, and start following those directions. Don't worry about the GPS and blackberry stuff for a good 3-12 months, depending on your current knowledge and abilities.

  • Developing Java Applications for Windows CE

    Hello,
I hope this sub forum is right. So I must develop a Java Application for Windows CE. I read something about J2ME, but I think this is only for Mobilephone and Windows CE supports AWT. So I tried just some simple forms with J2ME.
Can anybody tell me how I develop java Applications for Windows CE? Can I use Eclipse or must I use another IDE?
Realy I developed Swing 5-6 Month but I have no idea how I develop Java Applications for Windows CE.
    Thanks a lot for helping...

The MIDP for Palm OS 1.0 requires Palm OS v3.5 or higher to run. According to your error message, the emulator is not running v3.5 or higher. Try to get hold of a ROM image with a later version. I've run it with v4.0 of the OS and it works.

Developing iPhone apps with JavaFX 2 (Demo)
Not much there, but apparently people are trying to hack it together using JavaFX 2 already. I believe I read an article where Oracle itself had given a presentation about a JavaFX2 app on an iPhone; I believe the gist of it is that they want to make it so you can bundle the Java runtime with your application, which makes it legal to sell a Java application through the appstore.

  • Existing tools to develop mobile applications( mobile, pda, removable media)

    hi java developers,
could anyone answer the question that are asked below
    1) what are the existing tools to develop mobile based applications( ex: mobiles, pda , laptop, pocket pc's,smart phones, and removable media )
2)what are the encryption methods present& how to secure communication of files and documents?
    awaiting for reply...
    thanking you,
    vemuri...

this reply is based on what I know,
for mobile I use : Sun's Wireless toolkit , netbeans with mobility pack (best acc ording to me).
for secure data communication: you can use secure server and client sockets, by which you can make your files and documents travel securely between client and server in encrypted form using the personal and public keys.

I want to create a mobile application with MDK for viewing BW reports. It is possible ?

    Hello,
I have a similar kind of requirement here.
I need to show BW data on wireless device...via Portal.
This BW data is a query, which is created using WAD.
In normal case, we just use the SAP BW Report iView, stick the Bex query in it and its all done. But in this case....how am to go about this...?
Ive read about Mobile WebDynpro but want to know that....Mobile Web Dynpro is an oline approach, does it mean that user will be able to drill down from the Bex query??
    Awaiting Reply.

I agree. In my opinion Sun has done a horrible job documenting all this madness for the average developer just starting out with this stuff. There is the CLDC, J2ME, Personal Java, J2ME-WTK, MIDP, MIDP-FCS ... maddness. Anyway after sorting through it all for a few days, I think the answer to your question you will need to use Personal Java for WinCE and the Sharp Zaurus, and MIDP for PalmOS for the palm. Jeode seems to be the most common and best Personal Java implementation and it is basically the JDK1.2.2 (or is it 1.1.8) that is designed to run on WinCE and Embeddix (such as Lineo on the Zaurus). You program it just like you would a 1.1.8 application and then you can test it by running pjava.exe which is included in the personal java 3.1 download from Sun. There is also a program called JavaCheck that will ensure that your app will run properly in PersonalJava. As for the Palm, MIDP for PalmOS is a 574K program that installs on your palm device. You then use the J2ME-WTK (wireless toolkit) to build a JAR/JAD file and you use the MIDP API to write the code.

  • Developing mobile application (SAP Ui5) using UWL API

    Hi,
I need to develop a mobile application using sap ui 5 which will fetch the work items from the logged in user's id and when the user clicks on the workitem another custom page should open which will have the details of the task selected. The entire applications needs to be accessed from a smart phone.
Basically I will be using a hybrid web container for this purpose.
Do you have sample code or informtaion in this regard.
    Thanks,
