Development Area of Oracle Applications

Can someone higlight the importance of PL/SQL in Oracle Applications. Should a person working in Oracle Applications know about creating various types of triggers, conceptual and working experience of SQL loader, API, etc if wants to work in the development area or it is applicable to administration and development?
Are there any additional languages that a person should a know if a person wants to work in development or administration area of Oracle Applications.

It mostly applicable in development area, but some knowledge in PL/SQL area and API could help in administration area.
Additional languages for Oracle applications you need to learn for Oracle Applications is java IMHO. It is used for OA Framework pages and also java concurrent programs, also unix shell/scripting would be useful.
Oh yes one more thing should be XPath/XQuery for BI Publisher.
For tools it would be JDevelopers, Reports, BI Publisher, Forms, Workflow, etc.

can i deploy my application build on oracle 10g using developer suite with db10g and I don't use application server?For individual use and development yes u can using oracle Developer suit after starting OC4J
but for client use for more than x user to be able to run reports using parameter forms and other forms application u must use Oracle Application Server

Developing for a Oracle Application Server with SSO

Hello there,
I'm developing an application (Java) that will be deployed as a partner application within an Oracle Application Server 10g at my client. This Oracle instance has a SSO already configured, and my app will use this Identity Manager (consuming the cookie). The problem is that at my company we don't have a SSO system configured, not even an Oracle Application Server, just a simple Oracle XE 10g to hold data. So I'm wondering how can I do to develop my application and test it.
I was looking forward to install an OAS and configure an SSO to validate my implementation, but the download link provided by Oracle is broken (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/index.html). Another alternative that I thought of was to install an OC4J and configure a Java SSO to simulate the behavior of OSSO, and make my app the cookie set by it. But OC4J supports only til Servlet 2.4 and my app is using 2.5...
And to complete, I cannot access my client's environment. I'm supposed to write a Deploying document telling him how to deploy my app and then try to access it through Internet.
Does anyone have an idea of how can I develop and test my app in my company's environment?

If you are just starting off, then you would be better off using the latest Discoverer 10g as Discoverer 4i is in de-support mode by Oracle.

Developer Security with HTMLDB (Application Express)

Hi folks. I would appreciate any help I could get with this problem - it's a fairly serious one and I'm hoping for some feedback.
We are using HTMLDB 2.0 and are using Oracle Applications. We have a rogue developer who has a bit of a control problem - he likes to run UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT statements against our production database. However, he does develop HTMLDB reports for us and does a good job with that. Is there any way we can limit his developer account in HTMLDB so that he can't run these kinds of queries in the SQL Editor in HTMLDB?
Any suggestions on how we can limit what kinds of queries he runs?

Start learning Oracle Applications...

Hi All,
I need some help in getting more knowledge about Oracle Application Servers and About Oracle forms and reports.
I have basic administration knowledge with Oracle 8i 9i and 10g.
But I have no idea about Oracle forms, reports and Oracle Application like HR and Payroll.
I am planning to start to increase my knowledge in the above mentioned topics.
According to my understanding, Now I should be knowing about the Middle Tier that is the place where Oracle application servers run(HTTP, Load balancing etc..)
I guess Oracle forms, reports, application runs on this middle tier.
I need help from experts from how should I proceed from here. and Am I thinking correctly.
Any help with this will be highly appreciated.

Customised Oracle Application and access to roles - Discoverer 10.1.2.0.2

We are developing a customised Oracle application where we have users and roles...user - role mapping is done in the system administration module of the application.
Now, we are also developing Oracle discoverer reports based on this. Using 10g (10.1.2.0.2) for that.
When I am creating an EUL, I select 'New EUL for Oracle Applications users only' option, but, I do not have any 'FND schema' to specify. That's where I'm stuck up!
I want to give access to the 'roles' in tha same manner as I would give to the 'responsibilities' in Oracle Apps. But, I don't know how to do it here.
Can someone guide me on this?

If your application is not E-Business Suite you cannot install Discoverer into Apps mode. This mode is reserved for applications which are E-Business Suite, which basically tells Discoverer to use authenticate users using the FND tables owned by the APPLSYS user.
In your case, even though you appear to be using Oracle applications, because you want to take advantage of your roles you will have to install Discoverer into standard mode. As you are creating your EUL you need to uncheck the box which says grant access to PUBLIC and make this a private EUL. Then you will not have the headache of worrying about setting up new users. You simply manage what a role can do (Tools | Privileges) and what a role has access to (Tools | Security).
Now, when any any user connects to Discoverer their role will be evaluated and access will be restricted.
You can do the same thing using a PUBLIC EUL, except you need to reduce what that user can do (Tools | Privileges) to an absolute minimum, and then take control of this using roles. For example, you could have a set of functional roles, one each for say AP, AR, GL and so on, but you could further break this down by privilege, thus you could have roles called AP Viewer, AP User, AR Viewer, AR User and so on. The User roles would have full access while the Viewer roles would have a much reduced set of privileges.

Adapters & non-Oracle Application Servers

Hi:
I am helping a customer evaluate BPM products and I am leaning strongly in favor of Oracle BPEL. In reviewing the Developer's Guide, all mentions of the various adapters are named Oracle Application Server Adapter for XXXXXXX . This implies that these adapters are built specifically for the Oracle Application Server environment. Is this true for the version of Oracle BPEL for JBoss and WebLogic. Have the adapters been ported to work in those environments, or were they written to be independent of application server?

I agree that they "connect to the BPEL server" and, of course, you would expect them to connect to it in any of its supported environments. What I don't know is if any of the adapters are dependent on application server support that is specific to Oracles AS.

How to enable single sign-on. Is there any tool that we need to install.

You need to install and configure Oracle Internet directory and Single Sign On compontents of Oracle Application server 10g in order to have the Single Sign On working with Oracle Applications. After the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure tier installation there is addition integration steps you need to follow to integrate the Single Sign on with Oracle E-business suite. You can use DIP features ( Directory Integration and Provisiotion) to integrate with Third party directory server like Micrososft AD, Sun directory server etc. for Integrating the non oracle based application i think you have to use oracle single sign on API and you need to do bit of coding as well. You can also enble single sign on for database users but this requires advance security option enabled on the Database side and finally you can integrate Single sign on for OS users as well.

BAM and Oracle application server 10.1.3???

Hi,
I would like to understand more about integration between BAM and OAS.
I remember I read a document that stated that BAM was included (or was integrated) as part of OAS 10.1.3, however I installed it and still don;t see how it is integrating with OAS.
Also, in one of the Tutorials it mentions this:
"Note –if you are using Oracle Application Server with opmn process, the following
additional files are required in the above path:
C:\OracleBAM\OC4J\opmn\lib\optic.jar
Copy the entire Application Server “opmn” directory to c:\oraclebam"
So... are there any additional steps for the OAS and BAM integration?
I am still learning BAM but mi goal is install it as part of EBS(order Manegemnet)-BPEL-OTM (oracle Transportation) integration installation I currently have.
If it can be integrated can it be done using iAS 10.1.2.0.2 instead?

Its recommended that you should use same versions of OAS and Oracle BAM.
For integration between OAS components and BAM you can check BAM tech notes (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/integration/bam/10.1.3/htdocs/1013_support.html#technotes)

Oracle Application Server problem

Dear Zedi Masters(Oracles),
I am facing a problem in my Oracle Application Server. The Installation works smoothly, but afterwards if I try to Reload the Webnode manager it gives an error saying the ORB cannot be started" and "start ORB manually" Can someone explain the problem and how to overcome it.
I have also tried "owsctl reload" from the command prompt and have got the same reply.

I get the same error message - except that it happens without
protection on the virtual directory and it continues to display
the message when I reload.

How to create a deployable ejb(.jar file) when we use Oracle application sever?

Hi,
In case if we use Weblogic we give following command on console to create a deployable ejb, while weblogic.jar is in classpath.
java weblogic.ejbc temp.jar StudentBean.jar
1)What are the classes or jar files we have to set in classpath,
2)What console based command(like what I mentioned above for weblogic) can we use,
so that we can create a deployable jar file in case if we are using Oracle application server.

Set Desname for PDF using Oracle Applications

We are running Oracle Applications 11i, 8i database on a Unix box and use windows 2000, internet explorer, acrobat 6.0 to run, and view the reports.
I just finished redesigning a Oracle report to output to PDF instead of printing on a preprinted form.
The user has requested that the output file (Report) be saved to a specific directory on a server that is on the windows platform.
The report is being run from the concurrent manager inside of Oracle Applications, which seems to be over writing my desname that is specified in my report (rdf). Our current workaround is that the user opens the file in acrobat and save it to the desired directory, which they have to set manually for each session.
Is there a way to run a report on UNIX and output the report to a windows directory?

There is a better workaround than opening an saving on desktop...I have never tried this but have an idea...that would work 100%.
The standard configuration of apps 11i is that the output file is placed in $APPLCSF/out and its on the Unix Box...but if u have apps running on NT environemnt then just share the file system of $APPLCSF with the desktop...Pretty simple....
If apps is running on Unix then u need to install software like Samba on Unix so that the desktop will be able to share the file system of unix on desktop....
Try it out...
