Device History Preferences

I am trying to give access to the Device History tab in User Prefererence Maintenance.  When I look at the database I only see VIEW in the Activity_Perm_Setting table.
How do you control VIEW vs SAVE in the Permissions field to allow the users to control their settings or change the default settings for the Device History report or even change the settings for users for this report?

The behavior I am seeing is the following:
1.  SAP_ME_USER role is assigned to user
2.  Custom group in User Group Maintenance has the EN065 activity with access to it
3.  User can access the EN065 activity
     - User uses password to activate the tabs
     - the DeviceHistory tab is greyed out
If I log in using an account with the Administrator role I can edit it.
It appears any user groups created from scratch do not have access to the Device History tab even if they have access to the Device History Report.
Is this a bug?  If so, I can open up a message with SAP support.

  • Apple TV 1st Gen not in iTunes devices or preferences

Not sure how many other people have had this problem, but if you find that your 1st gen Apple TV disappears from iTunes devices and preferences this is what I had to  do to get it all back:
In brief I believe this is linked to the email @mac and @me alias's and my inability to keep everything in sync.  If this is obvious to you my apologies, but looking at the threads out there I think more than one person has this problem.
I had a 1st & 2nd gen Apple TV, an iMac with Lion, an iPhone 3GS and iPad 1st generation not talking to each other - they had all communicated perfectly well over the last few weeks and months (post and pre Lion upgrade).
A few days ago (after the latest iTunes update 10.4.1 (10)) my 1st Gen Apple TV disappeared from the devices section of iTunes and so after much reading of communities to find an answer (no joy) I decided to remove it from the iTunes Apple TV sync menu in iTunes preferences.  I then couldn't get it back and it disappeared from the iTunes menu.  Heres how I fixed it:
When Apple changed the mobile me accounts from @mac.com to @me.com I started using both, e.g. [email protected] & [email protected]
My iTunes account on my iMac was set up to my @mac alias but I turned on home sharing with my @me email address.
All my devices listed above were set up for home sharing (except ATV 1st gen) with my @me alias and worked fine until recently
In the last week I have regularly had issues with my 2st generation Apple TV password / email alias not being recognised by the iTunes store.
In addition my iPad, iPhone and iPod touch have also had issues with the remote app with both Apple TV's where they have 'disappeared' from within the remote app.
Today I lost everything on every device.
    Here's how I fixed it:
Factory restore Apple TV 1st gen and set up with @mac.com email address details (not my @me email alias)
As above for Apple TV 2nd gen
Turn off computer, iPad, iPhone, BT Home Hub, Netgear Wireless router, unplug Apple TV 1st generation & Apple TV 2nd generation (mains and HDMI).
Go to shop to buy gin and tonic ingredients
Turn on BT home Hub and when completely booted -
Turn on Netgear router and when completely booted (make G&T during this time) -
Turn on computer and launch iTunes
Plug in Apple TV 1st Generation and select general > computers and the 1st option with the infinity logo
Apple TV 1st gen appears in iTunes (phew, drink G&T))
Register Apple TV in iTunes, rename it (to whatever) and thank goodness everything back to normal albeit with long re-syncing (but that's why I bought a seperate wireless router from Netgear in the first place, so not so bad).
modifyed my home sharing account details in iTunes from my @me email to my @mac email alias
Turned on iPad and changed home sharing account from @me to @mac
Apple TV 1st Gen 'appears' when I select add shared library along with iTunes from my iMac on the iPad
turn on iPhone 3Gs and repeat the above (as per iPad) - again everything suddenly worked again
Plug in Apple TV 2nd Gen and changed home sharing, itunes account to my @mac account from my @me account (NB: I was able to see my iMac in the computers menu on the ATV 2nd gen using my @me email alias before changing it)
2nd Gen ATV appears for the first time in a few days back in the remote app.
    All back to normal.
Now this may be blindingly obvious to you, but just in case it isn't, I thought I'd write it all down in the hope it helps someone.  It may not be the email alias, it may just be resetting everything, but I did try that first before fixing it using the steps above.
    Best wishes.

I assumed that by using time machine to import everything onto the new iMac that the new machine was effectively the "old machine". Maybe not. It was set to sync to the old mac, so will try setting up  the Apple TV again on it's computers tab.
Still worried that I can't find the "find Apple TV's" option in iTunes prefs though.

  • Using Batch Record/Order Record for electronic Device History Record in PP

We are evaluating the use of PP or PP-PI for production planning at a medical device company and one of the primary considerations is the ability to create an electronic Device History Record.  It looks like the Electronic Batch Record (COEBR) or Order Record (COPA) provides some of the capabilities required, but they do not appear to work with discrete PP.  While I realize that the differences in functionality between PP and PP-PI are small (and getting smaller), I am surprised that SAP would require medical device companies to use PP-PI to handle this business requirement?
How have other companies dealt with the eDHR business requirement?

Firefox is not saving history even with remember history preference turned on. I have tried reinstalling Firefox but this has not solved the issue. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

    * Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the Browsing History.
    * Make sure that the History is set to at least 1 day: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: "Remember visited pages for at least"
    * Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode (Tools > Stop Private Browsing is grayed, see [[Private Browsing]])
    * To see History and Cookie settings in Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history"
You can look at these prefs on the about:config page to make sure that you keep history.

  • Device history report incredible slow

    Hi,
Our device history report is incredible slow. We have had the same problem from the start using the SAP ME product.
Device history report is very useful, but has no value when it takes 2 minutes to run.
We are running 5.2.5.4 release. Performance in application is good and all other reports are running fast. Debugging shows me that the code could be improved for this report. At one time report was improved to run in "only" 20 seconds.
Last time I think the issue was fixed in SP03 Patch 1. It's really bad for the product that this useful report is this slow.

    Hello Knut Ole,
I would suggest opening a support ticket in order to investigate the performance issue. SQL trace with timing information must be analyzed.
    Regards,
    Alex.

  • If we can access app history, why not device history?

    Hello.
I am an Apple user, IT project manager in mobile apps solutions and I think there is a flaw that could be easily corrected about stolen idevices/locateMyIdevice problems. The answer could be put in the itunes store preferences page.
Saturday night I got attacked and physically aggressed while trying to sell my old Ipad. My physical condition is now better but the thiefs and Ipad are gone. As your website suggested, I went to the authorities on sunday morning, they requested information I no longer have (everything (box, bill of the device) has been stolen) but I thought you might have this info, and you should! I contacted your customer support, they tried really hard to get the missing information - serial/id of the device - we stayed more than an hour on the phone - but in the end, could not find it. They used the same tools as I did (locateIphone, itunes,…)
I have an idea that really could help both police and victims in terms of stolen devices in this situation.
Being in this concrete situation, if I can help on that subject I will be happy to.
This is not a message for bad publicity, your customer support really tried to help, you can remove this message from Asap from your Facebook page, but, I really hope I can speak to someone from IT (or maybe legal as both subjects may be linked). I can explain more the idea by private message and if it can’t be done, at least I tried.
    Best regards.

For info we are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
If you had them registered to your account then their serial numbers should show on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
If not then if you have backups of them on your computer's iTunes then you can get the serial numbers from there : in iTunes go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences) and on the Devices tab hover your mouse pointer over the device's backup

  • Time Capsule vs. Other Mass Storage Device

I am a Mac newby seeking advice.  I recently purchased the MBA below to replace my personal PC.  My previous setup was a desktop with plenty of storage to handle my needs (including iTunes) and I backed up data directly to an external hard drive (I know pretty basic).
After purchasing the MBA, I realized I do not have enough internal hard drive space to store all of my music and my current external drive is too small for all the media and backup of the MBA.  Also, the point of the MBA is to be mobile. Also, I would like my Sonos music system (with an application similar to iTunes) to be able to access the music library.  Lastly, I have far to many songs purchase outside of iTunes to use iTunes Match.  Therefore, I started seeking wireless alternatives to store my music and backup my MBA.  Although an NAS would probably be ideal, I have found out through trial and error that the basic systems do not work with a MAC and the only ones with a prayer are the more expensive ones (i.e. Synology and QNAPS).  Therefore, I have decided to pursue a more simplified approach.
My Internet and TV provider is CenturyLink.  Their router is very basic with only 802.11g speed and without any USB ports.  The following configuration has been suggested to my by some more experienced Apple users to provide wireless data access and backup.
Requesting CenturyLink provide me with a basic modem.
Purchasing an Airport Extreme (or similar wireless n router with a USB port).
Connecting the Airport Extreme (or other wireless router) to the basic modem.
Purchasing a Time Capsule (or other mass storage device).
Partitioning it using either the specific one for the Time Capsule (or Disk Utility for other mass storage devices) to provide one volume for my media and one for backup using Time Machine.
Moving the media from my old external drive (which is catalogued with folders for each artist, subfolders for each album and the songs in the subfolders) by connecting the old mass storage device and Time Machine to my MBA and using Finder to do this (see the questions below regarding this).
Moving/cataloging the media from the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) by dragging it into the iTunes window.
Connecting the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) to the USB port of the Airport Extreme (or other wireless router).
Setting up Time Machine to use the volume partitioned for backups.
Possibly having to move cataloging files from my iTunes, Music folder to the external drive and pointing iTunes to the Time Capsule (or other mass storage device) through Preferences, Advanced to access the music.
Overall, I am concerned with the total cost.  I just spent a lot of money, not only purchasing the MBA, but also the iPad 3 and upgrading my cell phone to the iPhone 5 (I skipped the 4).  It seems that by the time I purchase an Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule, I could also have just bought a NAS like the Synology 213 with 2 X 1TB drives, connect it to the existing wireless router via ethernet connections and have a more comprehensive solution.  Based upon these instructions and cost concerns (and bad experience), I have several questions related to this.
Does this configuration and these instructions make sense, including those for moving and accessing my music files through iTunes (i.e. will it work)?
Are both the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule necessary to make this work easily or can I purchase alternatives to either or each and if so, what is recommended?  If they are necessary, would you recommend doing this or buying one of the aforementioned NAS's to a Mac newby?
Given the file structure for my music on the old external mass storage drive, can I simply move the folders over with the subfolders containing the musice files in them or do I have to literally enter into each subfolder, select all and move them subfolder by subfolder (i.e. album by album)?
Am I missing something totally better and easier solution?
I would be massively grateful to anyone who can provide some good answers, advice and guidance.  I am about to pull my hair out!!!!
    Thanks,
    WinoSkiBoy

They both said about the same thing except the Apple Store business tech said to buy an Airport Extreme and just attach a partitioned external third party HDD to it.
Except that is flakey for TM backup..
    http://pondini.org/TM/Airport.html
And slow as the proverbial dog.. although I guess the dog is old.
And totally inadequate as a media store or server.
Apple's pricing is pretty cunning.. I really doubt you are going to find a cheaper unit to do both wireless and TM backups than the TC. And it is a perfectly good device to do that. It is good to have in the network. And Apple sure make their products work with other apple products.. so it does work better than other similar cost products.. although you miss a lot of features that Apple predecided for you.
But I don't think anyone has the ideal solution to your problem. Apple believe in cloud. And if you have fibre internet that will work really well.. forks out your money and apple will store your stuff. But for the real world most of us do not have internet connection even a fraction of speed required. And it can be another decade before we will. We need a box that is half way between a TC and media PC, a file store and a NAS. Will Apple make one.. ?? I don't think so.. They believe in cloud..
You can make the missing link one yourself. If you are so inclined.. A HP microserver running freeNAS can do TM backups and makes an excellent media store because it can do AFP. You can put a graphics card in it and plug it into your TV. You can use it with a airport extreme. But you will need a degree in Geek.. !! The synology is a preconfigured form of that.. No Geekdom required. Synology seems to have the upper hand.. this week.
Let me make a suggestion.. Figure out if you are going to jump into the Apple way of doing stuff.. which is basically itunes on computer as a server.. and the whole network.. working as part of this.. so any media is pushed from a store in itunes.. whether local or internet..  if you want to do it that way.. getting something other than the air to run itunes is well worth it. That is what a NAS cannot do.. it cannot be a media player.
Or you do hybrid.. ie you don't use put all your media into itunes, you use a bit of this and bit of something else.. As long as that can play files.. stored on NAS or even on the TC without the itunes requirement.. It won't be as pretty. But it isn't hard to get working.. as long as you accept this isn't going to be the perfect Apple solution.

  • How to sync contacts across multiple devices

I have a iPhone, iMac and iPad that I am having trouble keeping my contacts in sync!
Some contacts do not appear across all devices and others appear duplicated on one or more device.
After much checking of the settings and trying to merge contacts, I have still not managed to sort the problem.
    David

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
