Devices not connecting to extender. Is there a way to force them?

Hey everyone,
Here is a quick setup so you know what I'm working with:
Basement--> modem-->airport extreme (hardwired) -->
Extender (New extreme on 1st floor) -->
Me with my devices on the 2nd floor.
Like the post says, the extender is set up fine and working. I checked and it is receiving and IP address from my main extreme as well as if I hard wire to the extender and turn off my wifi, it works great. The problem is, when I'm on the 2nd floor with my devices and I go into the Airport Utility, they are all connected to the basement's extreme and are very slow. Nothing connecs to the extender.
The whole point on the extender is to boost the speed when I'm on my second floor. Moving the modem and stuff out of the basement isn't an option, so I'm wondering if anyone knows any way to force everything to connect to the extender. BTW, everything is up to date.
Thanks in advance for any help, advice or troublshooting you help me do.

What devices do you have on the second floor?
iPhones, iPads, etc tend to hang on to the original router with which they connect...even when a stronger signal might be available. Try powering off the iOS devices and then powering them back up to see if they will pick up the stronger signal. Do the same with computers.
Unfortunately, there is no way to "force" a device to connect to a given wireless access point unless you assign a different wireless network name to the router and then "point" your devices at that network.
You can do this if the extender connects to the main router using a wired Ethernet connection, but not if the extender is connecting using wireless only.

Photos were deleted from my camera roll and I hadn't backed them up anywhere. Is there any way of getting them back??

If they were on the iphone at last sync, then you may be able to restore from backup and get them back.
    Otherwise, they are gone.

  • I did the os6 update on my iphone 4 then changed to the 4s but lost my text messages due to the 4s did not have the os6, is there a way to recover them?

I had a iphone 4, backed it up and downloaded the os6. I then activated a 4s but due to the os was not the 6 it would not download my recent backup. Is there a way to recover my text messages?

If you install iOS 6 on the 4S, you can follow this by restoring the 4S from the iPhone 4 backup, or select Restore for the 4S which will install iOS 6 and after iOS 6 is installed, you will be prompted to restore from a backup. You will need to manually select the backup for the iPhone 4 since the backup for the 4S will be selected by default.

After completing the update, I realized just how much data was lost (including important notes with financial information and images and videos of recent trips around Europe). Now I am desperate to try to recover the data deleted in the update. Is there any chance at all that I can recover something? The notes and videos are most important to me. I am also missing many Messages but that is less important to me.

Here's the official article from Apple on how to update your iOS.
Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Before you update
Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
That's virtually the very first thing it says to do.
There's no excuse to not have your data backed up prior to updating.  Tell me, what would you have done if, instead of this being an issue where you updated your iOS and had an error, if instead you had dropped your iPhone and it was damaged beyond repair, or if it was stolen or lost, etcetera.
Perhaps you'd been backing up to iCloud and didn't realize it?  Maybe the missing Notes data is linked to a Mail account?  You might be able to reconstruct the data, but it's going to be an uphill battle.
Best of luck.  Make sure to backup more frequently in the future.  There are two types of people in the world; those who have lost data, and those that will lose data.  The only difference is how prepared you are for that event.

  • I just updated my mac to Yosemite, after it's done I see that all my "notes" are gone. Is there a way to find them?

I asked on another website and got this answer:
    – Quit all apps.
    – Press command shift G.
    – Type
    ~/Library/Containers/{not this}com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes
    and then click "Go".
    – Drag "NotesV3.blahblah" to the desktop.
    – Rename "Notes V2.blahblah" to "NotesV3.blahblah"
So it brought me to the Notes section in the finder. So there are three files: NotesV3.storedata , NotesV3.storedata-shm , NotesV3.storedata-wal Then there is a folder called Backups. In there are similar file names saying V3 but they start with a date (when I made the update?).
Which files do I move? Nothing seems to say V2...
Let me know if you need any extra information, I'm pretty lost. Thank you so much!

I take it you didn't read the warning prior to updating the phone. It said that you need to backup before upgrading. You have two ways. 1) load apps off your old computer. 2) Download apps one at a time. Your apps are still tide to your account and you will not be charged.

  • I'm trying to change my password, but i have to know the answers to my security questions. But whenever I send the answers to my email, it sends to my old email that i can not access anymore. Is there any way to get them to send to my new email? Uggggghhh

    Someone please help me

You cannot and need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

When I attach images to an email they show as an image and not an icon.  Is there a way to have them attached as an icon?
When I send attachments this way some people can't save them.   They can see them but not save them.
    Any ideas?

They are received as attachments, i.e. icons. What you see is the real image on your disk, and only if small enough to be displayed. Otherwise, they are small icons inserted in the text.
Additionally, when you place an image in the message, you will find an option in the lower right corner, otherwise absent. Use it, if need be.

  • HP Photosmart C4795 Wireless Setup (Error Messege: Device Not Connected) Help?!?

I've had my HP Photosmart C4795 since 2009. I've haven't had any major issues with the printer until recently (probably time to get a new one).
This is my issue; the printer can't connect to my network. I'm able to print via USB from my Mac or PC. But I'd like to be able to print from any computer on my home network. In the past I've setup the printer to network with minor issue. I've had issues ever since the Mountain Lion Update (running version 10.8.3).
I've attempted to try once again to connect the printer to the network and I get an error message from my the HP Installer software (Device Not Connected). I've tried to troubleshoot the printer with no luck. These are solutions I've tried
    1) Uninstalled HP Installer Software/Setup via Mac  - I added the printer using the latested instructions provide from HP Supports section. I set up the printer but I can't it isn't showing up on any other computer.
    2) WPS - My router (supplied by Comcast) couldn't find the printer. I used routers login website to connect the printer but it didn't work.
    3) I've printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and manually add the printer's MAC Address to list on my router's devices list. I still can't connect wirelessly to the printer.
I've connected this printer wirelessly in the past before the Mountain Lion Update. Can anyone help?

First, on the printer go to Setup [Scan] > Wireless > Restore Defaults.
Then, set the printer up using WPS (pushbutton) - start it in the printer (Wireless menu) first, then the router within 2 minutes of starting it on the printer.
There is no HP software for 10.8, so you need to uninstall it.   Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Creative Zen Micro Firmware problem: "Device not connected, please connect your devi

After an exhausti've search, I've found the fix for losing your firmware and not being able to update it via download from the creative.com. To explain my problem, I had issues with my device connectivity, so I tried to option of reloadinging my firmware via Recovery Mode (option 3, 'Reload Firmware'). After selecting this option, I tried to download and update my firmware via the creative.com website. The module to update my firmware displayed the error message "Device not connected, please connect your device." After about 2 hours of trying various suggested fixes, I found a relati'vely easy fix by running together various suggestions I found for other problems. First rollback your Windows Media Player (WMP) via the instructions found on this page: http://www.auditmypc.com/uninstall-m...layer0beta.asp. Restart your computer after rolling back WMP.
When your compter restarts, insert the "playsforsure" CD labeled "Easy Start CD." Follow the directions for reinstalling WMP. After WMP is reinstalled, restart again. When the computer restarts, return to the CD and follow the directions in the prompt. Reconnect your device when prompted. Once you reconnect your device, it may not function right away. If this is the case, go to the 'Start' button, under 'Control Pannel,' select 'System.' Under 'System' select 'Hardware' and then 'Device Manager.' Find your portable device under 'Uni'versal Serial Bus controllers.' Click on your device and select 'Uninstall' from the small icons at the top of the window. When this is completed, unplug and plug your device back in. After this is done, click on 'Scan for hardware changes,' also a small icon at the top of the window. If your device had the problem mine did, it should now be recognized. Go back to the Creative website and download the latest firmware. The module should now find your player without any problems.
The only thing I can figure is that the "playsforsure Easy Start CD" must have a device driver that solves the problem that you can't find anywhere else. I hope this helps someone out there (tech support was telling me that I was going to have to ship my device back to the company I bought it from to get it exchanged...which would have taken at least a month, I'm sure). Good luck to you all.

For all of you non-technical Micro owners:
I found a fix for this that I hope will help others out.
When I want to Sync tracks to My Zen using Yahoo Jukebox or WMP, I simply reboot my machine with the device PLUGGED IN. After Windows starts up, my applications recognize that the Zen Micro is connected. Good Luck.

  • MuVo "device not connected" firmware update error

When I try to execute the plan given by Pook Kok Choy (below between "=====")
    I successfully get MUVO_DRV_LB_00_04_250.exe installed.
When I move to step 2 I have the device attached to the PC but I get the message "device not connected to the USB port".
This happens, with the device connected and on while trying to install:
    MUVOAudible_PCFW__40_2_L4.exe
Apparently, I am not alone in having this problem.
Apparently, this happens to others - using XP - specifically when trying to do this firmware upgrade in order to play purchased WMA, DRM protected music.
The PC recognizes the MuVo 28.
It assigns it a dri've letter when it is plugged in.
The install procedure for the *Audible* firmware does not see it.
    Please help.
    Tbanks,

    JLRtist,
After you have installed the latest downloaded driver, did you run the player into recovery mode? Try this, press and hold the PLAY button, continue holding the button while inserting the player into the USB port for about 0-5 sec. Run the firmware update file.

    Hi glomp,
From the information provided, it sounds like your device may not be fully recognized by iTunes. Here are two articles (depending on your computer's operating system) for troubleshooting this:

  • Devices not connecting to Afaria

I have been having a problem the last couple days of devices not connecting to Afaria.  Afaria can connect to the devices to send policies but the devices cannot connect back.  When trying to enroll, the app displays "Downloading enrollment data" followed by "enrollment failed" and when refreshing the connecting "Verifying device status" is displayed followed by "Connection failed."  I have searched the knowledge base for an answer and rebooted both the Afaria server and Relay Server without success.  Can anyone point me in the direction I should look at?

Try un-enrolling the device and make sure the afaria client has administrator preveliges.
For iOS -> Settings -> General-> Afaria -> administrator preveliges.
Also check if the latest profiles are installed on your iOS device.
For android follow the same steps
Settings -> Applications -> Afaria -> Admin preveliges.
If this does not work, try generating a new code and try enrolling the device back:
    Steps are shown here:
    http://frontline.sybase.com/support/documents.aspx
Check for document on "Client Enrollment"
