Dfstab entries get invalidated on reboot in S10u6

Hello,
I have installed a Sparc workstation with the lastest Solaris release (Solaris 10 update 6: 10/2008) and with ZFS on all filesystems.
To share directories via NFS, I use the traditional way, i.e. the /etc/dfs/dfstab file.
In this file, I added entries similar to the following:
share -F nfs -d "home directories" /export/home
Enabling the NFS server service with:
svcadm enable nfs/server
works fine. The "share" command effectively displays the shared directories.
However, when rebooting the machine, the NFS server service becomes disabled and the /etc/dfs/dfstab file automatically gets modified with:
# Error: Syntax: share -F nfs -d "home directories" /export/home
By the way, this happens for every share and whether the NFS server service was previously enabled or not.
The modification date of the dfstab file indicates that the modification takes place during Solaris stop, not after the reboot.
Also, in Solaris 10 10/2008, the dfstab file starts with the following warning:
# Do not modify this file directly.
# Use the sharemgr(1m) command for all share management
# This file is reconstructed and only maintained for backward
# compatibility. Configuration lines could be lost.
However, the sharemgr utility is not present in this release.
So how does one enable persitent NFS shares in Solaris 10 10/2008, apart from using "zfs set sharenfs=..." ?

After performing some testing I have found the following: On a clean Solaris install the dfstab file works properly for sharing file systems over NFS. If you set any of the zfs file systems to “sharenfs=on” then the new file sharing system is “activated” and the dfstab file no longer functions in the traditional manner. The following message is prepended at the top of the /etc/dfs/dfstab file:
# Do not modify this file directly.
# Use the sharemgr(1m) command for all share management
# This file is reconstructed and only maintained for backward
# compatibility. Configuration lines could be lost.
If you see this message at the top of you dfstab file you know the “new” method of sharing is now in effect and your dfstab will no longer function in the traditional sense. It appears that several OS operations automatically generate and overwrite the dfstab file for backward compatibility. If you had entries in the dfstab file BEFORE your system “switched” to using the new file sharing system, those shares will remain in the dfstab file and will continue to work properly. If you add new shares to the dfstab file AFTER the system has “switched” to the new file sharing system then those entries will be commented out and the following text will prepend the entry:
# Error: Syntax:
An example would be:
# Error: Syntax: share -F nfs -o rw=bs1.sun.com /export/somefs
You can manually remove the comment and error message and save the changes to the dfstab file and then run shareall and it will work in the traditional sense. However, the lines will be commented out again the next time any OS operation is performed that overwrites the dfstab file.
I have found that rebooting the system overwrites the dfstab file. I was also told that creating or deleting a new pool or file system causes the dfstab to be overwritten also. I have not verified this but it seems logical that anytime an operation is performed that changes the configuration of the zfs pool that the dfstab file would be updated.
This document explains the changes to NFS file sharing and why they were made. After reading this it makes sense that the dfstab file no longer functions in the traditional sense. I only wish I would have been familiar with this before installing a new NFS server. We would like to go back to using old NFS sharing technology but I cannot find any way to go back after the OS “switched” to the new system. We have our reasons for wanting to use the traditional methods for NFS sharing, although they may not be as efficient as the new method.

  • Keep getting invalid certificate notifications on certain sites on Safari. How do I get sites to trust?

About a week ago my MB Pro (wife's computer) said date and location was lost. Wife went in and reset. A day later on my side I started getting invalid certification notices dropping down from menu bar. Mostly an annoyance and would either click cancle or resume. However some sites, Facebook in particular, I lost the page altogether. I get a white screen with blue and whit text along left margin. I've worked with an online tech for 4 days and have not resolved. Does anyone know the fix or had similar problem. I'm at wits end.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • Can't get imac to reboot after it locked up

    hello,
did a hard shut down and  can't  get  imac to reboot,  all i get is the spinning wheel.
the computer is about 6 years old and i recently upgraded to leopard.
the system seems to be running more slow in recent months.
is there a way  i can reboot it using the leoplard disc? if so how?
    thanks, Owen

    Try this to start:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Accounting Entry getting passed in case of Make to Order Scenario

    Hi Experts,
In Make to Order scenario, as per my knowledge, when the goods is recieved from Production Order the Accounting entry gets passed is Inventory A/c Debit and Cost of Goods Produced Credit.
But how is Cost of Goods Produced, which is  an expense, gets crebited? I am confused, because the above entry will create a credit balance to an expense account. Can anybody clarify this please?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sameer Joshi

    Thanks for the reply.
Do you mean that at the time of PGI, when the entry is posted to COGS, the amount of COP will also get transferred to COGS and then the whole amount will be posted at PGI?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sameer

  • Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

  • Since last update (today) I get invalid password when trying to use back to my MAC, password works everywhere else

since last update (today) I get invalid Apple ID password when trying to use back to my MAC in Icloud app on my MAC, password works on all my other devices. GLITCH ?

Try going to the Apple ID page on your web browser
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
and try to either retrieve or reset your password
(obviously you had to be able to successfully log in to be able to post here)
I was finally able to log in through my system preferences after about three or four hours. I ran a disk utility to repair permissions and restarted and it seemed to work ok.

  • Getting Invalid password message while running catalog utility

    Hi,
I am trying to index the modifyTimestamp attribute using catalog utility in OID.
I am using the command as :
    ./catalog -connect=orcl -add=TRUE -attribute=modifyTimestamp
    Enter OID password:
but I am getting Invalid password error when I am entering the super user (cn=orcladmin) password.
Could you please help me in solving this issue.
Also can someone help me in knowing how to check what should be the correct value of connect_string.
I am running this command on Solaris.
    Thanks in advance!!
    -Nitin

    Rohit,
The fix to this is fairly straightforward.
You have input an incorrect path for the -infile parameter when calling cryptotools.
    You entered , -infile OracleBIData_HOME/web/config/credentialstore.xml
when it should be, -infile C:\OracleBI\web\config\credentialstore.xml , depending on the absolute physical path to the credentialstore.xml file.
It looks like you were attempting to use either a Nix (unix/linux) path with the forward slashes or you where trying to use a environment variable for "OracleBIData_Home".  I can see from the c:\ that you are on a Windows machine so the Nix path won't work. Also if you are attempting to use an environment variable that you have confirmed is indeed set, then you need to use %OracleBIData_HOME% in the command prompt which would look like %OracleBIData_HOME%\web\config\credentialstore.xml
So to answer your question your command should appear as below if I have accessed your path to the OracleBIData home correctly, you may need to change it based on your installation,
    C:\OracleBI\web\bin>cryptotools credstore -add -infile C:\OracleBIData\web\config\credentialstore.xml
Just be mindful of your paths and your backslashes vs. forward slashes.
Please mark this as the correct answer to award points if it is or if you read it and it helped you.
    Cheers,
    Christian

How can I fix my mac mini g4 1.5ghz with 2gig ram which gets the must reboot message randomlly?  what is the reason?  Hard disk has no errors.

Based on your description, you are having a kernel panic.
Can you post some of your crash logs? Might be a clue. See Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2546
Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060309075929717
Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

  • When filling in forms I get invalid email but works on my laptop

    Subject:
When filling in forms on web sites I get invalid email  but it works on my iPhone and laptop

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination   command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • How/why do forms get invalidated in R12 environment?

    Hi,
We are implementing R12 and while the functional consultants do their config setups, I get regular requests to recompile/regenerate specific forms or forms in a specific module (GL ,AP etc) in regular intervals. I want to know what is the root cause for these forms to get invalidated and is there any way to automate the regeneration of the invalid forms.

I do not think you can automate it and generating forms should be done on demand unless you write a shell script and schedule it to run on regular basis (assuming you are compiling same forms each time).
