DHTML Menus on Knowledge Exchange

Hi all,
I have been trying to download Knowledge Exchange Spotlight: DHTML Menu from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/news.html and if I click on the links I get a 503 message. Or if I click on the link to http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/opstudio.wwv_main.main?p_siteid=233&p_cornerid=497710 I get Database Log In Failed does anyone know how I can download this?
thanks

Knowledge exchange has been down for months with no-one from Oracle to explain. It's been real quiet.

  • About Knowledge Exchange Portal (portalstudio)

    Hi
I really do not understand why you guys decided to take out the Knowledge Exchange Portal.
This place was THE PLACE to get in the move with Oracle Portal. Developers could share and find things. Definitely was not the best user friendly interface, but was doing its job.
From about 3 or 4 months the site is down and show this "friendly" message:
"Knowledge Exchange is no longer available"
There are some forums on this and no one from Oracle had ever write a single line.
    Re: Knowledge Exchange unavailable
    Knowledge Exchange
    Knowledge exchange not working
    Oracle Portal...Knowledge Exchange link down
I even created a SR in metalink (See SR 5626679.992) to ask this issue and the response is as cold as the one in the site:
"Based on the information I have received, Knowledge Exchange along with all its contents is no more available"
Where we can find the DHTML menu object type? where we can find the chat and the forum portlet?.
I think Oracle Corporation should open this kind of spaces to let the developers share.. If not, many many many open source GNU portal frameworks will take out Oracle Portal from the CM scene, just take a look to http://www.cmsmatrix.org/matrix/cms-matrix.
I hope some day all the Portal enthusiasts , like me, will have a oracle.com site to share Knowledge AGAIN

    Hi,
Well, just to add more weight to Daniel's post, here's another Thread where an entusiastic Portal Developer was left clueless due to the unavailavility of Knowledge Exchange:-
I could not find Ronaldo Viscuso DHtml Menu to download.

  • Portal Studio Knowledge Exchange

I attempted to download a portlet and was greeted by a window explaining that I am not an active member of Knowledge Exchange. It did not tell me HOW to become one. It did provide me with an ACCEPT button which I eagerly clicked on. Then the page refreshed. Alas, this did not change anything, the window keeps popping up.
I also wonder what is the relationship between being a member of KE and becoming an active subscriber to Oracle 9iAS. In short the text below confuses me. Especially since it keeps popping up.
Here is a paste from the window:
Currently, You are not an active member of Knowledge Exchange. You do not have the privileges to download this contribution. To become an active subscriber to Oracle9iAS Portal Developer Services, you need to accept the supplemental terms of use for the Knowledge Exchange, just once By accepting the terms and conditions , you will not need to view the disclaimer everytime you download contributions from the Knowledge Exchange. No changes have been made to the actual terms and conditions. Please read the Knowledge Exchange Supplemental Terms of Use and click the I Accept button below.
I would suspect my use of Mozilla on Linux, but this shouldn't represent a problem to the software from a renowned Microsoft basher?

  • Usability of the Portal Studio Catalog & Knowledge Exchange...

    Just wanted to say:
Usability of the Portal Studio Catalog in a word:
    SUX.
Browsing the catalog is incredibly tedious on a corporate LAN; can't imagine how impossible it would be on any slower speed connection: Click. Wait. Click. Wait. Click. Wait.
The Knowledge Exchange, in a word:
    ISN'T.
And, while I'm getting this off my chest, I am SICK AND TIRED of having to enter my password 15 times a session. If my network/machine is cookie-friendly enough for your system to remember my username, why can't you manage to retain my password when I go from one page to another??
    Sheesh.
And, the reason I'm submitting this complaint here, and not in the elusive Feedback section, is because it's too dam' hard to get to!!!
Has Oracle EVER once run a Usability Study on its website(s)???
    Sheri

Hiya, Mohana, and thanks for the response!
Have you checked the browser setting (if using IE, check Internet Options, Security tab, and if you have Custom setting, verify settings like the Userdata Persistence and User Authentication.) I've added portalstudio.oracle.com and otn.oracle.com to my list of trusted (!!) internet sites. However, I'm on a US Army intranet, so there's a limit as to what I can change WRT security. I've already established with one of your managers that there are some issues with our firewalls and your site. For example, I can't view the monthly developer's newsletters from work, inside the firewall... but when I go home and login to Oracle via my cable modem, I can see the newsletters just fine.
Your problem with performance (click and wait) also seems to be stemming from a configuration issue - I'm specifically talking about the catalog tree structure. You click on the little (+) signs, wait wait wait, and get a teensy bit of info. Then click again to see a teensy bit more info. Soon the whole screem is full. So, you have to click on the (-) signs to compress the open parts of the tree. The page is slow to load, regardless of the time of day. I admit, pages on the internet can sometimes load slowly at lunchtime hereabouts, but for most of the day that's not at all a problem. Nor do I have this problem with other pages on the oracle.com site. Just the catalog. There's simply got to be a more efficient, faster way to display this tree and its content.
Regarding the Knowledge Exchange, I'd be happy to know what exactly are the issues you're facing in using the KE. Did you try downloading any contributions or uploading your own? First of all, it's darn hard to find anything to download on the KE. Yes, the top five items of the day are simple. But, there's no organized catalog of offerings that I can find. Deep digging is required.
Uploading something?? Hah. I'm no Java programmer. I can readily massage existing code to make it do what I want, and I have PL/SQL Developer, which is a very neat and easy-to-use program. However, I wasn't able to figure out how to get the PDK working in 90 minutes of trying--and gave up in frustration; I have slews of content to put up!! Too, our Lab development staff wasn't able to get PDK working, either, and they ARE programmers and DBMs.
And, while I've got your much-appreciated attention, we're still on Rel 1, and it is very difficult and time-consuming to navigate thru. We have Rel 2 sitting in the Lab, ready to install, however, the report from the Lab team yesterday is the benefits of Rel 2 are not worth the effort of installation. "It's too buggy, not to mention there's a lot of vaporware: promise of functionality that won't really be available until the next release in March 2003."
I tell you, I wanted to cry when I heard that. Can you give me any ammo to contradict that opinion??
And, if there's a Oracle front-end developer's List out there anywhere like the HTML Webmonster List, I would dearly love to know where to join!!
One final point: the path links in the gray bars in the Oracle Discussion Forums are not coded properly. Look at the top of my first message where it says:
Products > Portal > Performance and Scalability
Click on any of those words; doesn't matter. You SHOULD go back up the path a level or two. But instead, you stay on the same page. Might as well click Refresh/Reload. The path links in the red bar at the top of the page work fine:
Oracle Technology Network > Collaboration > My Forums
They take you up the path. Just not in the gray bar.

  • Oracle Portal...Knowledge Exchange link down

    Hi,
I would like to bring to Oracle's Notice that the Knowledge Exchange link on Oracle Portal's homepage (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/index.html) has been down for several days now. I have recently started working on Oracle Portal technology and i believe that Knowledge Exchange would be very helpful for entry level developers like me. Kindly get this link up asap so that we can learn from the expertise of other knowledge professionals in our area.
    Thanks,
    Amit

I think this is because Oracle has decided to scrap the Knowledge Exchange part of the site :-/

  • Knowledge Exchange Login Problem

When I try to log into the Knowledge Exchange I get an error that states "Error: the portlet could not be contacted" in the region on the right.
When I try to update my account I get the following error when I press continue: nullORAOAN
    Why is this?
    Nancy

    > I've had the same problem before, all my other files
    publish just fine,
    > but not
    > the pictures in the Quiz KO. I typically have to
    manually add them as Amy
    > said, and have to make sure that they are in the same
    folder and burn them
    > to
    > the cd, too. It is a pain!
The reason for this is that, since you have used a KO, the
    images are not
imported into Authorware, They are referenced by a variable,
    rather than
directly linked in a Display icon. Authorware does not know,
    at the time of
packaging, which images you need so you have to tell it.
The best thing to do is place all your images in a subfolder
    of the folder
that you have placed your development code, and then add that
    folder to the
packaging process in One Button Publishing.

  • I can't sign up for Knowledge Exchange

I am trying to access the Knowledge Exchange on Oracle's Protal Studio. Under the heading "To Access Your Personal Page on the Knowledge Exchange:" it says that you need to sign up for Portal developer Services "to begin sharing content with other developers". Following there is a "Signup" link. When I click on the link I get the following error:
"Error: The portlet could not be contacted."
I have been trying this for the last few days and continually get this error. Is there some other way to access Knowledge Services? Any Ideas on what i can do???

  • Transparent mode and DHTML menus

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has found any workarounds that work
better when Flash content falls on top of dynamic content such as
DHTML menus? I set the wmode to transparent for my flash because it
sits below drop down menus. However, this 'fix' does not work
consistently. It works for me, but not for others. Some are using
IE, like me. It does not work at all in Firefox. I've read that
this is a hugh bug and besides setting the wmode to transparent
there is not much else one can do. Even fooling with the zindexes
does not work. THERE MUST BE A WAY TO GET AROUND THIS! Does anyone
know if the newer versions of Flash are addressing this issue?
Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in FlashMX at work. We have
the newer version but it's not installed yet.
    Thanks,
    Suzanne A

    Suzanne A,
    >> I was wondering if anyone has found any workarounds
    >> that work better when Flash content falls on top of
    >> dynamic content such as DHTML menus? I set the
    >> wmode to transparent for my flash because it sits

    >> drop down menus. However, this 'fix' does not work
    >> consistently.
True enough. This is well documented in the forum archives
    and in
macromedia.com technotes. Of course, you only need
    "transparent" if the
SWF's background is supposed to be invisible. Another value
    for this
attribute is "opaque," which some have noted as less prone to
    bugs.
The main thing is that wmode provides a way to display
    "active content"
in a manner that doesn't obscure other objects in the
    document -- some
browsers support this feature better than others. It's worth
    noting that
wmode is not an invention of Adobe or Macromedia. It is a
    mechanism that
can be used for QuickTime video and any other content not
    normally displayed
by the browser, including Java applets, and so on. In other
    words, content
that requires a plug-in or virtual machine.
    >> It works for me, but not for others. Some are using
    IE,
    >> like me. It does not work at all in Firefox.
    Sure it works in Firefox.
    http://www.communitymx.com/content/source/E5141/wmodenone.htm
    >> THERE MUST BE A WAY TO GET AROUND THIS!
I would be nice, for sure. But in general, the idea that any
    given
thing *must* be accomplishable can sometimes lead to
    disappointment.
There *must* be a way to display CSS properly in IE, for
    example -- but
sometimes there isn't. Sure, there are hacks and workarounds,
    and sometimes
those are worth the effort ... but sometimes they aren't, and
    in those
cases, IE's CSS support is frustrating.
    >> Unfortunately, I'm still stuck in FlashMX at work.
    We have the
    >> newer version but it's not installed yet.
This isn't solved in Flash 8. Remember, this isn't, per se,
    a Flash
    issue.

  • DHTML Menus

I am looking to buy a DHTML program but have read (in an
advertisment) that most of the makers insert code that is read by
search engines that has a detrimental effect on your web site,
specifically the search engines pick up code that was used in the
program now being on your website and directs the searcher to the
    maker of the software/extension..
Any truth to this and if so can it be removed??

    > Any truth to this
Yes. If your menu embeds the LINKS for the menu in javascript
    code blocks
it's absolutely true. Fortunately, savvy providers understand
    this, and do
not do it that way. Here is the best I have found -
    http://www.projectseven.com/
I use their menus on nearly every site I build.
