Difference between Item Proposal and Material Determination

Hi
What is the difference between the item proposal and material determination product proposal?
Thanks
KM

Hi
Item proposal and product proposal are the same.
Item proposal is the list of materials and order quantities that can be copied into the sales order from the customer master data.
We use VA51 to create the item proposal. Here we get a number. This number is then linked to the customer master data in the sales view. This is very commonly used.
Material determination is very closely related to item proposal /product proposal  and is used to swap one material for another in the sales order using the condition technique. I have not seen Material  determination procedures used in the projects I have worked.
Item Proposal or Product proposal:
Item proposal is same as product proposal & SAP uses the two terms interchangeably.
An item proposal is a list of materials and order quantities that can be copied into the sales order.  Items can also be selected from a list and copied into a sales order.
1) Use transaction [VOV8] to configure the document type ("MS" for product proposal).
2) Use transaction [VA51] to create a proposal.
3) Enter the item proposal on the sales area data (sales tab) of the customer master record.
4) In [VA01] to create a sales order, Select Edit & propose items."
Material determination:
"Material determination uses the condition technique to swap one material for another when certain conditions apply. Material
determination is triggered by the material entered in the line item of the sales order.
Use transaction [VB11] to create a material determination condition record.  And [OV12] for configuration of material determination.
Material determination is useful when old product is becoming obsolete or a new product is released by the company at specific date."

    Hi,
In item proposal when u enter the details in the sales document you have to click on propose items to get the list
    the customer regularly purchases.
While in dynamic product proposal once you specify the sold to party and press enter , system automaticall gives you
the list of the materials the customer regularly purchases, it a faster way of entry than item proposal.
please let me know if i am wrong.

  • Difference between Item Cost and Last Evaluated Price

    Dear All,
What is the difference between Item Cost and Price in Last Evaluated Price List. Exactly when are they updated?
    Regards
    Sibasish

    Hi Sibasish,
The "Last Evaluated Price" is simply a price list but can't have a direct manipulation like other price lists. Its values may not involve in any accounting transactions if it's not selected for the concerned transaction any way.
On the other hand the item cost is the cost which is maintained by SAP B1 (until and unless you select the Standard Valuation Method), and it gets involved in the accounting transactions where inventory is involved. For e.g. the "COGS" is calculated on the basis of this value.

    Hello,
Transfer posting may involve or not involve the physical goods transfer.  In the system you might do transfer posting from quality to unrestricted, or from one store location to another.
In transfer posting you remove and or replace materials from storage in one storage location and place them in another storage location.
That transction code you use for transfer posting MB1B with following movement types may be used
    301, 303,305,311,411,309.
301 is Stock Transfer Between Plants in One Step
303 & 305 : Stock Transfer Between Plants in Two Steps
In stock transfer, it always involves physical movement of goods, like transfer between plants under same company code or different company codes.
Following types are possible with STO's
    Stock Transport Order Without Delivery
Stock Transport Order with Delivery via Shipping
Stock Transport Order with Delivery and Billing Document/Invoice

  • Exact difference between Item category and Account assignment category

Can anyone plz give the exact difference between account assignment category and Item category
    Thanks inadvance

    Hi,
Account Assignment Category: Key indicating whether an item is to be assigned to an auxiliary account (such as a cost center). The account assignment category determines which account assignment data (e.g. cost center, account number, etc.) is required for the item.
Item category: Identifier indicating the characteristics of an item. The item category determines whether the following are necessary or allowed with regard to an item:
Material number, Additional account assignment, Inventory management in the R/3 System, Goods receipt, Invoice receipt.

  • Business Content: Difference between Articles, Products and Material

    Hi experts,
what is exactly the difference between the repositories of the business content for
    - Articles
    - Products and
    - Material?
In which business cases do I have to choose which repository? Maybe articles for retail, material for manufacturing, etc.?
When I am using business content repositories is there any kind of (customizing) data that is necessary in more than one repository (e.g. plants, units, etc.) so that it has to be maintained twice in two different repositories?
Thanks for your answers. Of course helpful answers will be rewarded.
    BR, bd

    Hi,
First of all please make your question clear.
On the other hand I don't think you required two different kind
of repositories for a particular master data object(AS Material)
in terms of activation of standerd business content.
Because there is no relevance if you are considering to make two different repositories with two different field of Material say
Unit, Plants..it is kind of reference data for a particular object(Material). and by making two different Repo. there will be no relavance otherwise you can make it.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi,

  • Difference between Item created under Material Master and Equipment

    Hello Expert,
I am bit confused in Item created in Master and Equipmet:
as per my understanding : Item created in Item master belong to some BOM in BOM defines the structure for the Item.
Then what is exactly served b equipments?
The equpments are serialied Items with some different structure or they are derived from BOM?
Please guide me to understand this concept.
    br,
    Pushkar

    Dear,
Check what I found:  material master is used to describe an item, usually stockable,  that is purchased, manufactured, sold, inspected, serviced, etc.  A material master is usually created when there are multiple quantities of an item, say a product that is being manufactured.
A material master may have a serial number profile entered in order to allow distinguishing between the different copies of the same item.   For stocking,  inspecting, sales, manufacturing, etc;  the exact serial number(s) being transacted will need to be specified.
Depending  on the serial number profile specifics, each SN may get a unique equipment master, which records information specific to the material-SN combination (not just about the material in general).  For instance, if a product sold to a customer is returned for service, that material-SN (=equipment master) will have a record of the service order used.
For items which are never inventoried but for which information particularly PM transactions are recorded, an equipment master without a material master may be created, for instance a piece of processing equipment.
So an equipment master may link to a material-SN combination, or may be a stand-alone.

  • Settings for Item Proposal and Product Proposal

    Hi Gurus,
How to do the configuration settings for Item Proposal and Product Proposal.
I also want to know what is the difference between Item Proposal and product Proposal.
    Give me your Solution.

Item proposal is the list of regularly/frequently ordered items of a particular customer. this will be useful when u are entering the sales order. it will be used to speed up the order entry process.
For that Goto VA51, enter item proposal type as MS and sales area details.
enter the customer name and the list of products and save. Assign the item proposal No in the customer master sales area data, sales tab.
create the sales order  and enter the customer no and press the propose items button in the sales order.
the system will propose one box and it will display all the materials. then u can continue further.
    Product proposal:
To configure product proposal, Go to IMG,SD, Basic functions, Dynamic product proposal, Maintain all the settings
**A product proposal is a list of products for a specific customer that is automatically proposed during sales document processing. You can decide for yourself which materials should be displayed as product proposals in the sales document. You can also determine the sequence in which the materials appear in the product proposal.
During sales document processing, the system displays a product proposal in the item overview according to the customer and the business transaction. It displays the material number, material description, and historical order quantites in the sales unit last used. To use a material again, you just have to copy it. The system does not run the standard checks (pricing, availability, incompletion, material determination, free goods determination and so on) until you have entered the order quantities.
The product proposal is both an entry help and an aid to sales support and promotions. It is particularly useful in Telesales, where the employee automatically receives a display of all the materials that are of interest to a particular customer. This helps them to provide appropriate advice to the customer quickly and easily. The sales document history enables you to analyse the purchasing behaviour of a customer and recognize early on if it changes, for instance, when the customer suddenly stops ordering a product.
The product proposal differs to cross-selling in that it is dependent on the customer and sales area, and is displayed in the sales document as soon as you have entered a customer. Cross-selling, on the other hand, is triggered by a material. In other words, the system proposes cross-selling materials according to the material or a characteristic of the material you have entered.
You can determine the product proposal from different data sources:
    Order history
    Listed materials
    Excluded materials
    Item proposal
    Customer-material info records
    Customer-specific data sources
You can combine materials from these data sources to create a product proposal. The system then accesses the data sources either online or in the background.
To define a product proposal for sales document processing, you must carry out the following activities in Customizing:
Define customer procedure for product proposal
Define document procedure for product proposal
Assign document procedure for product proposal to order types
Maintain table of origin for product proposal
Define product proposal procedure and determine access sequences
Maintain procedure determination (in background) for product proposal
Maintain procedure determination (online) for product proposal
The product proposal procedure determines how the system displays the product proposal in the sales document. For instance, if the system has accessed the order history, it determines how many columns should be displayed in the sales document, in which period intervals thehistoric order quantities should be displayed (for instance, day, week, or month), and most importantly, the sequence in which the system should access the data sources (for example, order history, listing, exclusion).
The product proposal procedure depends on the:
    Customer determination procedure
The customer procedure determines which product proposal procedure the system automatically uses when you create a sales document for a particular customer.
It is specified in the customer master record per sales area.
    Document determination procedure
The document procedure determines which product proposal procedure the system automatically uses for a certain document type. The document procedure is stored as a key in the header for the sales document type.
If you use online processing, the product proposal procedure is determined according to the customer and document determination procedures.
If you use background processing, the product proposal procedure is determined according to the sales area in the customer master and the customer determination procedure. It does not use the document determination procedure because the document type is not recognized in background processing.
    Difference:
Item proposal is the list of products the customer used to buy frequently.
Product proposal is also the list of products but it will explode in the sales order, once u enter the sold to party field. But this will be based on the following criterias.
    Order history
    Listed materials
    Excluded materials
    Item proposal
    Customer-material info records
    Customer-specific data sources
    Hope this clarifies.

    Regards
    Pavan

    Hi Pavan,
    Item Category
Item Category is a control field that allows the PR to follow the correct path for the correct path for that category of PR. The SAP system is delivered with a set of item categories
    Blank -Standard
    K- Consignment
    L- Sub Contracting
    S- Third Party
    D- Service
    U- Stock Transfer
Selecting an item category allow the display of certain fields and not others
For Ex: If PR item has an item category K for conignment then invoice receipts will not be allowed
    Material Group
Material group is a method of grouping of similar materials. It is defined either by using classification or by configuration. It is important not only for seracing the materials but also in other areas of purchasing
A purchace inforecord can be created with out a material number but must require materail group and vendor
Material group is configured through Tcode WG21
And i do not find any link between them

  • What is the difference between handling unit and packaging material

    hi
what is the difference between handling unit and packaging material

    Hi,
A handling unit is a physical unit that consists of the packaging materials (load carrier / packaging material) and the goods contained therein. A handling unit is always a combination of materials and packaging materials. All the information contained in the material items, such as batches and serial numbers, is always available by way of the handling units.
Packaging materials are intended to enclose or hold together the materials that are to be packed. In other words, the material that is to be packed can be packed into or onto the packaging material. The packaging material can be a load carrier. The most important packaging materials include crates, boxes, containers, wire baskets, and pallets.

Some one please explain me in detail (with expamles if possible) and quick reply is much appreciated...
    Regards
    Ramsunder

    Hi
    What exactly  line items :
Line items are document items that were posted to a specific account. In contrast to a document item a line item only contains the information from the document that is relevant from the account view.
You can display the following line items:
Open items, Cleared items, Noted items, Parked items ,Items with special G/L transactions (in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable),Items with customer or vendor items (in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable)
You can display the line items for the following account types:  Customer accounts,Vendor accounts,G/L accounts.
    What exactly Transaction Figures are?
Transaction figures are the sums of line items on the debit or credit side. The balance is the difference between the debit and the credit transaction figure.
    If you take General ledger
AP records all accounting transactions for dealings with suppliers(Vendors). Much of its data is obtained from procurement (Materials Management).
AR records all accounting transactions for dealings with customers. Much of its data is obtained from Sales and Distribution.
Asset Accounting records all accounting transactions relating to the management of assets.
Travel Management manages and calculates travel costs and supports travel planning and travel expenses.
Bank ledger supports the posting of cash flows.

My question is, What is the difference between personal folder and personal category in central management console (CMC)?

    HI
Item Category determines the processing of any Item/material that we enter in a sales order and in this way it also effects the procesing of any sales doc in which it is used.
Item Category Group is one of the component which along with the Sales Doc Type, The Item Usage and Higher Level Item Category decide about the Item Category in a sales doc.
Item category determination enables, the system proposes the corresponding item category for sales document type through item category group. t-code: VOV4
Fields in the item category determination:
Sales document type, item category group, item usage, and higher-level item category
Default item category, manual item category
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/43/3bcfea0bff11d2956700a0c9306667/frameset.htm
    refer below for further details
Item category is for a particu;lar sales order item and it has integration with sales document type and material master.
In material master ,you must have seen the item category grp in basic data and sales area data.
That means your item category is assigned to the combination of sales document type and item category grp in the configuration.
Whenever you will create an order for a particular type and you will put your material then your item category will be determined automatically.
Configuration is done by spro---sd -sales-sales document item----assign item category
