Difference between Material Repository and Product Repository

Hi Guys,
Can you please explain the difference between the Product Repository and Material Repository.
Thanks,
Sandy.

Hello,
The MDM Products repository is structured to maintain the "sell- side" of the organization, meaning these are the products that the organization sells.
The MDM Material repository, however, is structured to maintain the "buy- side" of the organization, meaning these are the raw materials that the organization buys in order to produce/ manufacture its products.
These differences are also seen in the schema -the data elements that are maintained for each repository.

Hedda Cohen.

  • Difference between 'materialized vews' and snapshots

    Hello,
    i have two questions:
what the difference between 'materialized vews' and snapshots? In fact, in create thoses Oracle Objects:
create materialized view log on T1
         Create materialized view T1_MV
              Build immediate
              Refresh fast on commit
              As Select COL1,COL2 from T1
         Create snapshot T1_SNAPSHOT
         Build immediate
         Refresh fast on commit
         As Select COL1,COL2 from T1
and in find that T1_MV and T1_SNAPSHOT have the same caracteristics in dba_tables and DBA_SNAPSHOTS and DBA_MVIEWS.
seconde question: what's the difference between DBA_SNAPSHOTS
    and DBA_MVIEWS tables?
    I work under oracle 9i
    thinks for response.

Backwards compatibility. Some apps might reference DBA_SNAPHOTS and it would be a PITA to change them. Eventually Oracle might decide that it's a greater PITA for them to keep those views and ditch 'em.

  • Difference between process order and Production order

    Hi Experts,
Can any buddy tell me the difference between process order and production order. Why process order is used for process industries. Why do we use recipe for it and routing for production order ?
    Regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit
There is a difference between production order and process order.
Supposing a 10,000 lit tank is being manufactured in discrete manufacturing. You have to follow the necessary routing steps and can make by physically seeing its development stage by stage. For this type production you can have a production order.
In case of process of order if some chemical in a reactor is loaded with intial temp of 30 C and need to be heated to 80 C then there is phase change. Hence we use Heating as an operation and the change of temp is phase. For such type of process we process order.
Hope this is useful. Pl reward.

  • Difference between Material type and Item category

What is the difference between Material type and Item category?
We can differentiate different kind of materails according to material type then why do we have Item category which is also more or less on the same lines.
Both can be considered as a terminology in SAP to group similar kind of materials.
Please let me know the exact difference between the two?

    Dear Christino
We can list out so many differences.
When you create a material master record, the material type you choose determines:
    - Whether the material is intended for a specific purpose, for example, as a configurable material or process material
    - Whether the material number can be assigned internally or externally
    - The number range from which the material number is taken
    - Which screens appear and in what sequence
    - Which departmental data you may enter
    - What procurement type the material has; that is, whether it is manufactured in-house or procured externally, or both
Together with the plant, the material type determines the material's inventory management requirement; that is:
    - Whether changes in quantity are updated in the material master record
    - Whether changes in value are also updated in the stock accounts in financial accounting
In addition, the accounts affected by a material entering or leaving the warehouse depend on the material type.
-Most importantly, Users can be authorized to create materials of specific material types but not based on item category
    - Item category will define whether the material should be valuated for stock or it should be considered as non-stock
    - Pricing is carried out based on Item Category and not based on Material type

  • Difference between material listing and item proposal?

    HI Gurus,
COuld you explain what is the difference between material listing and item proposal?
    --james

    Hi James,
Item Proposal is automatically proposed by the system while creating a sales order for a specific customer.
This setting is maintained in the Sales Area of customer master under Sales tab.
It can be stored as master records. When you create a sales order, you can refer to an item proposal, look over the proposed items, and copy all or just selected items into the order. If a customer routinely orders the same goods, you can create a proposal and enter it in the customer master record. During sales order processing, the system automatically proposes items from this proposal.
Item Proposal is created using VA51.
Material Listing lists which materials a customer can buy. With material listing or exclusion you can control which materials can be sold to each customer.
A material listing is created for a customer. The customer can only buy the materials contained in the list. The system does not allow any materials to be entered if they are not contained in the material listing.
If no records exist for material listing, the sold-to party, for example, can in principle buy the same materials as the payer. However, if there is a material listing record specific to the sold-to party, the sold-to party can only buy the materials permitted in the list. These materials do not have to be identical to those which the payer can buy.
Material listing and material exclusion are controlled using the condition technique.
    Hope it helps.

    Priyanka

  • Difference between Plannnig Horizon and Production Horizon

Hai Can somebody explain me the difference between "Planning Horizon and Production Horizon"?
Here is the text that led me to this question:
"If the <b>Production Horizon</b> of SNP is smaller than <b>PP/DS horizon</b>, the <b>planning horizons</b> of SNP and PP/Ds overlap with each other." In this horizon, SNP determines the receipts with most cost effective sources of supply and lot sizes and PP/DS receipts generated by SNP in more detail.

check the following entries in Product master
The SNP production horizon is maintained on the SNP 2 tab page in the product master (transaction /SAPAPO/MAT1).
It also appears in the PPDS tab page along with PPDS horizon
The PPDS Planning horizon and PPDS Production horizon are the same. PPDs only plans inside this Horizon.
What is outside the SNP production Horiozon lies in the SNP planning horizon. Actually thought the name is a bit misleading - SNP does not plan anything inside the production horizon.
If you do not enter a value or you enter the duration 0 for the PP/DS horizon, the system automatically uses the SNP production horizon as the PP/DS horizon during planning. Therefore, the PP/DS horizon is exactly the same length as the SNP production horizon and this means that the SNP and PP/DS planning periods follow on from each other seamlessly and without overlapping.
If the SNP production horizon is smaller than the PP/DS horizon, the planning horizons of SNP and PP/DS overlap. SNP and PP/DS can both use this overlapping period for planning.
A gap between the end of the PP/DS horizon and the start of the SNP planning period is a time segment that is neither planned by PP/DS nor SNP. This can lead to inconsistencies.
So think of two lines - one with its right side shaded(PPDS) and the other with its left side(SNP) shaded. Depending on where you place these lines the shaded sections get planned. how you get the two regions to mesh will ensure the effectivity of your plan
you can also get a better understanding looking at the product view screen and changing the product master values for the horizons and running heuristics

  • Difference between Material Specs and Inspection Plan

    Hi ALL,
Whats the difference between Material Specifications and Inspection plan...?...Why Material Specification is required in QM...?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ameya K.

    Hi Ameya,
The first thing is that material spec is the client level data in QM where as Inspection plan is the plant level.
    <u><b>
Case 1:</b></u>    Suppose that there is an attribute Viscosity whivh needs to be checked whose UCL & LCL is 10 to 15. But in one plant where some highy precise requirement is there ...... then in that case we want that for that plant for the material viscocity should be 5 to 7 . In that case the requirement of the inspection plans comes in to picture .
<b><u>Case 2 :</u></b>    The material got one extra attribute needs to be checked for some plant .... in that case we need to maintain inspection plan for that material with both Insp with material spec &   insp with inspection plan need to be checked  so that during the result recording apart from the attributes in the material spec this extra attribute gets populated from inspection plan
Note : Apart from this as in material spec the data is maintained in the client level the load in the database will be compartively less  as there will not be any duplication of data which will be there in case of plant level data for the same material ..........
I hope this will add some info apart from what the gurus has suggested above .....
    Please reward points if helpful.....
    Thanks & Regrads

  • AppID during application update and Difference between app id and product id

    Hi
I understand once a app is in store it has a associated Appid. How does this differs from the product id?
During each app update does the product id's should be same?
or during the store certification process will the appid and the product ids be mapped?
How does the product id and App id differ if this is not the case?
Can you provide some article which actually explains what is the difference between XAP uploaded and xap after certification?
    Regards
    Varun
Varun Ravindranath Please 'Mark as Answer' if my post answers your question and 'Vote as Helpful' if it helps you.

    Hi
In that case the dev account from which the update is done will have the unique id or  appid  and the appid or the product id mapping will be always done by the store certification process.
I'm not clear on this part whether the developer who does the update of the app should update the id or the process which does the certification of the app as an update will update automatically do it?.

  • Difference between Material Master and Material ledger

Can anyone tell me the difference if any between Material Master and Material ledger and its usage and interlink with SAP modules.
    Thanks for your time
    suresh arya

    Hi Suresh,
The application component Actual Costing/Material Ledger fulfills two basic objectives: The ability to carry material prices in multiple currencies/valuations, and actual costing.
The material master records are all information your company needs to manage a material is stored in a data record in the material aster, sorted by various different criteria.
For more information regarding the functionality, you can see in path below, help SAP...

  • Difference between Time dimension and product(regular) dimenstion

    Hi All,
I would like to know what is the difference between time dimenstiona and regular dimenstion. How can we differentiate and how Oracle bi server knows a dimension
    as Time dimenstion.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
By using Logical Dimensional Structure and chronological keys it identify time or other types of dim.
Just double clik time dimension then you can find the
root type (Time, Ragged and skipped) and for the chronological keys > just double click logical level then select keys tab -- here u can find chronological keys
    Thanks

  • What's the difference between Application ID and Product ID for WP App?

Anyone know what's the difference between the Application ID on Marketplace and the
Product ID in WMAppManifest.xml?  Can I get the Application ID before I sumbit the app to Marketplace? Thank you.

Hello the ApplicationID is the ProductID on the WMAppManifest.xml, when you create a new project, a generic
ProductID is assigned to your app, and once you send your app to the store, the generic
ProductID is replaced with a new one (which will be assigned permanently to your app
unless you do a new App Submission, which means each update will have that same ID). AFAIK once your app is certified you'll get the ApplicationID, you can send it and publish it manually, so you could
have the AppID before people start downloading the app.
(if you need the AppID for testing IAP, you may want to try sending your App as a Beta version)
    I hope it helps
    Yassine,
Now I think I understand them, thank you!

  • Differences between infrastructure dba and production dba

    Hi DBAs,
I have graduated and interested in heading into dba path.
I heard there's 2 kind of dba, infrastrucrue dba and production dba. can anyone advise what's the differences as i'm new to working society?
heard that the infrastructure dbas are actually task to setup the database infrastructure in r&d environment and tested it before deploying it to production site through raising instructions for production dba to do it. Most of the their time is commited to co-ordinate project between the application team and production team.
    please advise.
    thanks

Infrastructure is the same as a development DBA sort of.....
But Infrastructure sort of Architects the system too. Think of a RAC system. He might recommend the RAC, design the interconnects, decide what storage and HBA's to use. You get the idea.
Production is the one who gets pages when the system goes down. They generally maintain the system day to day and apply patches, setup backups etc...

  • Difference between material group and external material group

    Hi,
Can anybody let me know the difference between the material group and external materila group from the business perspective.
    Thanks

    Hi Raghunandan,
Material Group : Materials having similar attributes will be goruped together and assigned to a Material Group.
Material groups are Extensively useful during :
    Limit the Scope of Analysis
    Reporting Purpose
External material group : Key that you can use to assign the material to an external material group or to a material group determined according to external systematics.
In General, External material groups are nothing but external representation of group of material  which are extensively used in supply souce determination for provions materials related to retail and some other functions
In short if your Internal material group for example bearing is 0001 you can group externally further based on manufacturer like FAG for NRB. No accounting activity is based on it

  • Difference between DEVELOPMENT mode and PRODUCTION MODE.

    Hi Gurus,
We installed oracle 11g Fusion on our machines and while creating a soa domain we selected development mode, then our B2B performance is completely slow then we later changed it to Production mode, then it was pretty good.
While installing weblogic (10.3..3), which One you prefer and JDK(Jrockit 4 or jdk 1.6.0021)
While installing SOA and ADF after running a config.sh file it will prompt for JDK( Which one is preferble)
And same as while creating a SOA domain which one you prefer (JDK or Jrockit)
    Regards
    RAJ

    Hi Raj,
As the name indicates, Development mode should be chosen for development environments where load is not too heavy and performance/throughput may be slow but all the features will be same as production mode. Production mode is used on a licensed software and it gives better performance and throughput, even it may bear the heavy load as well.
For Development environment (Dev mode) you should use sun JDK and for production mode JRockit should be used.
