Different definition of file version numbers in Jdev and Subversion

In the SVN Red book(http://svnbook.red-bean.com/), they say that updating a single file creates the new revision of the whole repository.
So even if a file has not changed, it still can go to a higher version.
+"Revision Numbers Are Different Now+
+In CVS, revision numbers are per file. This is because CVS stores its data in RCS files; each file has a corresponding RCS file in the repository, and the repository is roughly laid+
+out according to the structure of your project tree.+
+In Subversion, the repository looks like a single filesystem. Each commit results in an entirely new filesystem tree; in essence, the repository is an array of trees. Each of these trees is labeled with a single revision number. When someone talks about “revision 54”, he's talking about a particular tree (and indirectly, the way the filesystem looked after the 54th commit).+
+Technically, it's not valid to talk about “revision 5 of foo.c.” Instead, one would say “foo.c as it appears in revision 5.” Also, be careful when making assumptions about the evolution of a file. In CVS, revisions 5 and 6 of foo.c are always different. In Subversion, it's most likely that foo.c did not change between revisions 5 and 6."+
The above makes sense to me. But when I use JDeveloper with SVN, I see its showing me different version numbers with different files.
Can somebody explain. JDev essentially is showing the version of the file when it was last checked in, but because of changes in some other files, the "actual" version (as per the definition in redbook) might have changed...jdev DOES NOT show this change...why the apparent difference is what I want to understand.
Thanks,
Amit

Thanks for your replies.
@Timo - I checked out the project from SVN repository to a new folder. It still shows the old versions for some files. In other words, all files are not on same version as shown in app navigator.
@John - I have tried to reproduce the sections from the Redbook that I felt relevant and that led me to thinking what I am thinking (expecting) now.

  • Cannot open OFX files in Numbers 3.0

All earlier versions of Numbers '08 and '09 can open OFX files downloaded from banks and credit card companies. They can open these files directly or by dragging  and dropping the files into the appropriate table.
Numbers 3.0 can do niether of these, it appears to be unable to open these OFX files. This makes this version, Numbers 3.0, completely useless for my bank account spreadsheets.
Apple needs to fix this omission as soon as possible.

After trying OFX and CSV files in Numbers '08, '09 and the new 3.0 I have the following comments:
When dragging and dropping OFX files to the older versions of Numbers the entire table is highlighted and the data from the OFX file is  added to the bottom of that table and the data is arranged in the correct columns even if these columns have been rearranged. However, if one drags a CSV file to a table only the cell that the cursor is over is highlighted and if the file is dropped the data is added at this point in the table. The result is that the CSV data completely messes up the table.
In the new version of Numbers, version 3.0,  not only can one not use an OFX file by  opening it or dragging and dropping it to an existing table but one cannot even drag and drop a CSV file to and existing table!
Apple needs to get OFX file compatibility and the file drag and drop features back into Numbers 3.0 as quickly as possible.

  • What is the correct file version?

Why does it appear that there are differing file versions for Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey depending where you look?
Windows Explorer show one file version for example 1.9.2.3951 is the 3.6.12 product version but yet our SCCM reports 1.9.2.12 for the same machine/same file
    Any ideas?
We are trying to patch our FF and Tbird user base to standardize but with this discrepancy its like trying to nail the jelly to the wall -- heylp!

    3.6.12 is the Firefox version
1.9.2.12 is the Gecko version. Gecko is the rendering engine used by Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey. That Gecko version for example is used by Firefox 3.6.12 and Thunderbird 3.1.6
1.9.12.3951 is a version number attached to the executable file.
It is best to use the Firefox version number (3.6.12)

  • How to download a file version from office 365 using csom

I need to download an older file version from office 365 and get the data into a byte array. I have no trouble downloading the latest version with File.OpenBinaryStream() and I have no trouble loading the previous file versions with File.Versions. But now
I need to actually download an older version of the file and it seems the only way is to use File.OpenBinaryDirect. So I am creating a client context using my oAuth access token and providing the correct path, but I am getting a (401) Unauthorized
error. Looking with Fiddler I can see that the call to OpenBinaryDirect is somehow trying to post to my file URL and the server is responding with 401.
    context = TokenHelper.GetClientContextWithAccessToken(SPHostUrl, AccessToken);
    FileInformation info = File.OpenBinaryDirect(context, "/" + _fileVersion.Url);  //throws 401
    //leading slash required otherwise ArgumentOutOfRangeException
I have to be able to access the older file versions with my c# code -- I don't have a viable app without that ability -- any help urgently needed and greatly appreciated!

Thank you SO much (Can't wait for the next release)!
For anyone else who lands here, here's the code I ended up using:
// VersionAccessUser and VersionAccessPassword are stored in web.config
// web.Url is loaded via the clientContext
// myVersion is the FileVersion I got from the file's Versions.GetById() method
// probably a lot of ways to get hostUrl, it just needs to be https://yourdomain.sharepoint.com/
    // - I'm running my app from a subweb
// I had trouble following the links to get the full MsOnlineClaimsHelper code
// (the one on msdn.com was missing RequestBodyWriter, WSTrustFeb2005ContractClient,

  • Can SQL Developer control versioning of stored functions and procedures?

Hi all. I have a problem with my project, for developing Oracle functions and procedures. My team want to control versioning of that.
I found that Oracle SQL Developer support versioning features with CVS and Subversion. But I think it just about the files not functions and procedures.
We don't want to control version of files and copy it to stored somethings..
    Do you have any idea?
    Thanks for reading this post.

    Since K asked :)
Both SQL Navigator and Toad for Oracle support controlling PL/SQL at the FILE and DATABASE level.

I just upgraded to Numbers 3.0 but can´t open files of Numbers 9, help...!!!!!!
Can someone please help me, because those files in Numbers 9 version, are for my work and now I can´t open them

    Hi rabg,
I am using OS X 10.8 on a Mac. This may be different if you are using iOS.
Does Numbers'09 still exist in your Applications folder? Maybe inside a new folder? Perhaps you could use Numbers'09 to open your documents.

  • Total No of pages different in report printed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8)

Currently in our application, we are using Crystal Report XI R2 for generating the reports. We are in the process of upgrading the Crystal Report to SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). I updated that on my machine and all the reports work fine. I didn't have to modify any of the reports.
However when comparing the reports, we found that there are few reports on which the total no. of pages differ from the report displayed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). Comparing the reports, it looks all the data that were fit on one page earlier with version XI R2 doesn't fit on the same page with version 13.8, thereby increasing the page counts.
The fonts, page margins everything set on report itself. Nothing being set in the code.
Both the application is using the same report that is pulling the data from the same database. Our application is a web application.
Any suggestion, why this is happening.
    Thanks.
    Sanjay

I am not sure what is being compared here?
    CRXI R2 designer to CRVS?
CR XI R2 in some version of .NET to CRVS?
CR XI R2 using RDC SDK to CRVS?
Also, is this happening on your development computer or after you deploy?
If you compare the the "Page setup" options dialog between reports that work and those that do not work, do you see any difference?
Is this a web or a win app?
Are you seeing the same issue when viewing and exporting - say export to PDF?
What is the printer driver used and it's version?

  • Different CS files versions - figuring it out.

    Hey folks,
I am wondering if it was possible to find out which file version was a specific file - .ai from cs3 and .ai from cs4 or cs5.
Same thing applies to Photoshop and PDF (6,7,8 or 9).
I am on mac. So it would be cool to find some app which easily integrates with the finder.
    Thanks for the help.

There is another way, a bit more complicated and time-consuming, but if you want to know what version was used, open the .ai file in a word-processing program, as text... in the first lines you can almost always find the version and/or program used to create the file, it can sometimes be found between codes, but with postscript files it is easy to see.
I've used this way a few times, especially with files without an extension...

  • JDev-SCM Check Out File Version

When using the RON, I have been able to successfully check out a specific version of a file using the graphical Version History Viewer (and right clicking on the appropriate node).
When attempting the same within the 9i JDeveloper IDE, however, this functionality does not appear to work the same/correctly? The node turns blue (and SCM believes the file version is checked out), but JDeveloper does not appear to reflect the same....the icon in the System Navigator does not change to indicate the file's checked out status and the specific version of the file is not written to the workarea's download directory (as is the case with the RON)....?

This is Release Candidate 2 on Win2K with the Windows Look & Feel. I have tried the Oracle L&F, too, with the same outcome. The same steps in the RON, however, produce the desired result.
    Thanks.

  • How to simulate version numbers like (version: 3.5.2.11.2)  - Jdev 11.1.2

    Hello:
I have to insert and update version numbers like (version: 3.5.2.11.2) and keep them in proper order. If version is stored as a string, it will not sort correctly. Is there anything like a version number data domain that sorts correctly and allows insert by adding another decimal and a number? Or any other way to accomplish this?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
I think this forum thread may help you to implement the corresponding query for your version number in the business component: How to order IP address
Other approach could be a query like:
    select version_number from your_table order by regexp_replace(regexp_replace(version_number, '(\d+)', '00\1'), '0*(\d{3})', '\1');
Being version_number a varchar field where you store that version number in the database.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Cris

  • Different flash version numbers reported

I am experiencing a weird discrepancy in the reported version numbers for Showckwave Flash.
If I go to the Add-ons Manager (about:addons), it says I'm running Flash v. 16.0.0.296, but if I go to your online plug-ins checker (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/), it reports that I'm running v. 16.0.0.305 - which is also what's reported by the Flash applet in the Windows Control Panel.
So can you tell me why there's this difference and how I go about fixing it?
    Kind regards,
    Martin
    System:
    Win 8.1 64-bit
    Firefox 36.0

The ActiveX version of Flash Player only works on Internet Explorer or IE and not other browsers as Firefox uses the Plugin based version.

  • TS1702 I have have version numbers that are different to the ones stated in the appstore.

I paid for and downloaded direct from the app store Batman Lockdown for the ipad recently and instead of version 1.03 i see in my settings that it is version 8710.655 which appears to be a version not legal or from the apple store. MY device is new, not jailbroken and I deleted the app and tried to download from wifi as well as Verizon and i get the same issue...this is not the only app btw - about 5 of 20 of my apps all have version numbers not in line with the producer version...
Help understanding this would be great since this poses a lot of apparent issues with the security of my device, account and network obviously...thanks.

Reset your iPad by holding the home and on/off buttons together for 6 or 7 seconds till the Apple logo appears.  Then update your apps one at a time.  Do not start the next app until the current one downloads and finishes installing.

  • How to repear a corrupt file with Numbers

How to open a "corrupt" file with Numbers.
With excel it is possible to open such a file with the following error message :
"The file you are trying to open, 'filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
Clicking YES, the file is opening correctly with XLS.
How to do the same with Numbers?
When i try to open the same file with numbers i have no "error message" but the information contained in the file is not readable.
    Many thanks for your help

    Yeah that's true to an extant; microsoft did a good job fixing that but unfortunately allowed it to be re-introduced in 2006 with windows vista where they allowed file naming to receive destructive values (wasn't very fond of this);
in previous versions of windows such values once entered would be followed by an error message telling you those values couldn't be used
I wasn't aware it would pop its ugly head back up into windows 7 but I see otherwise as in the case of mine
(I forgot to mention the period preceded a parenthesis which in turn can be destructive to the file's original format)
Anyway photoshop wont open the file after changing it to .psd leaving an error message stating....
'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop'

  • Version numbers

    Hi,
In the xml descriptions there is a version attribute
    with eg value 9.0.3.10.62
What is the difference between that and 9.0.3.10.93 (except that 62 is before 93 - I can see that ;) )
And why would I encounter problems with code that was created (including the xml files) on 62 but then compiled on 93. Eg on execution on 92 version of JDev of 62 version created code , at certain times a master detail scenario comes up with the error that an owning entity is not found
What would be the difference of the JDEV behind each ( I believe that both were 9.0.3.2 - am I wrong?)
    Thanks
    P.

    Olivier,
just saw that somebody did answer back.
i meant the xml descriptORS not descriptions - and apparently due to a mess up a 9.0.3 zip was unzipped in a directory called jdev9032 and nobody checked the version numbers.
    Wrong conclusion.
The issue was that when something was working when developed on 9.0.3, it failed to work when recompiled on 9.0.3.2 without any obvious explanations.
when the objects where forced to update their xml descriptors everything worked fine.
I still do not understand why things would go that bad and why nothing warns you about the wrong versions but i guess one should be more careful anyway
