Different task sequences available on different machines??

Hi there,
hopefully someone has seen this before as i'm a bit confused here. I've got MDT 2013 installed and have been happily deploying to all manner of machines for months now.
But today i've noticed that different task sequences are appearing for different machines. Eg, i have a DELL Latitude E7240 that shows the task sequences as expected, however when i run the same lite touch vbs script on an Optiplex All In One (that has been
imaged off the network before), i get a completely different set of task sequences available.. when i try to select one of these, i get a message 'Bad task sequence item (missing OS)'.
This is definitely connecting to the same deployment share and they are the same PE version (64 bit). The task sequences i want to see are checked as enabled and not hidden etc..
I just don't know where to check from here, any ideas for me please??
Adam

Hi Keith,
thanks for the response, but the process doesn't get to writing logs - the bdd.log file just shows that the deployment was cancelled.
I'm trying to understand why on one machine a specific set of task sequences is available, but not on another?
I can run the deployment on my E7240 and the task sequence doesn't throw the 'missing OS' message, but on another machine the task sequences are a little different but when i try to run the one that does work on the E7240 (as it appears in the list on the
other machine) i DO get the 'missing OS' error.
weird.. ??
still very stumped...

  • OSD Task Sequence fails with "There are no task sequences available for this computer"

Let me preface this by saying that I have read at least 100 forum posts with people having similar issues. However, none of the solutions in those
    posts have worked for me.
The Problem: SCCM 2012 R2 will not image unknown computers.
The task sequence gives the error "There are no task sequences available for this computer." As soon as that error occurs, SCCM places an Unknown entry into the All Systems collection. I have been imaging unknown computers, without fail, for
4 months and no environmental changes have been made. NOTE: I am using USB media, not PXE.
    What I've Tried:
Checked for duplicate SMSBIOS GUIDS in the console, none.
Checked for duplicate MAC Addresses in the console, none.
    Checked for expired certificates, none.
    Recreated Boot Media, twice.
Deleted the Unknown entry and retried, SCCM just recreates the Unknown entry.
Deleted all of my task sequence deployments, and then redeployed them each to All Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE) and to Unknown Systems (Only Boot Media and PXE)
    I have also ran the following in the SQL Server Management Studio;
    SELECT
    * FROM
    ResPolicyMap WHERE
    machineid = 0 and
    PADBID IN
    (SELECT
    PADBID FROM PolicyAssignment
    WHERE BodyHash
    IS NULL)
    No result
    Select
    * From
    vMacAddresses Where
    MacAddresses = '00:00:00:00:00:00'
This displays an entry for every time that I have tried to image the unknown machine attached to the MAC Address with a different ItemKey and SMS_Unique_Identifier for each entry.
Added the machine manually using Import Computer Information, immediately recognized the Task Sequences that I have advertised to the All Systems collection.
    Any and all assistance is welcome, I am going on the third straight day of dead ends. Below I have tried my best to post the entire SMSTS Log;

  • SCCM 2012: no task sequence available because of approve?

    Hi,
We're loading some machines again and again to test deploys.
Now sometimes we see the machines appear two times in the list, we delete one and TS works again (not sure why, it 's not always the case).
Now we discovered sometimes the machine is to be approved. No clear reason why because there's an automatic approval. When approved TS runs again.
    Any idea?
    Pls advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

Workgroup clients have to be approved by default, so you might run into the situation where the domain join fails, resulting in a workgroup client that has to be approved then.

  • Driver Pack No Longer Being Applied During Task Sequence

    Hi all,
So... this week a really strange issue manifested itself. I've been trawling through logs for the last day and I don't seem to be getting anywhere.
A task sequence, which has been working for months and hasn't been changed, all of a sudden decided to start throwing error code 0x87D00269 yesterday. It was at the stage where applications that are installed during the task sequence started to
    install.
So after a looking into the error, it seems the machines are unable to download the packages, possibly through not being joined to the domain. At this stage in the task sequence, the machine should definitely be joined to the domain. We have
the command support console enabled, so I hit F8 and tried to ping the MP and the DP. Nothing. Ran ipconfig, nothing listed under the adapter. Very odd. So I checked the NIC on the back of the machine and it was up, so I booted from the task sequence
media USB stick again and hit f8. Ran ipconfig and the machine had picked up an address from DHCP no problem and shortly after, the task sequences available to the machine loaded. So I started the task sequence again and it started fine, formatted
the disk, downloaded the W7 pro x86 image, applied it, downloaded the driver pack and seemingly applied the drivers (according to the task sequence), then the machine rebooted. It started to go through the installing drivers phase (the black screen
with the sunrise), which seemed to take a longer than normal. The machine rebooted and sat at the applying settings stage for a long while, which also seemed odd and I remarked the graphics drivers didn't seem to be installed because the screen resolution
was set really low. Of course at this stage, F8 doesn't work so I waited until just before the applications started to install again. Pressed F8, ran ipconfig and no IP address. So rather than wait for the task sequence to fail again, I manually powered off
the machine and powered it back on.
So the machine boots, still with the low resolution, comes to the login screen and at this point, it's clear the machine hasn't joined the domain. I logged in with local admin account and it became clear none of the drivers had installed from the driver
pack. This is a driver pack that has run absolutely fine for months and as far as I'm aware, nothing has changed so I'm a little bit confused as to why it would just stop working.
I can't see anything in the smsts log that would explain what's happening and I've looked through the dism log but I can't find anything relevant in there.
Any ideas on where to go? This is happening on multiple machines of the same type.

    Hi,
    0x87D00269  CCM_E_REQ_MP_NOTFOUND
Ran ipconfig, nothing listed under the adapter.
These evidence indicate that no network driver in boot image. Is this a customized boot image? Is the machine a new model?
Press F8, run wpeinit to initialize network. If this is not working, re-add driver to boot image and try again.
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact [email protected]
    Hi Daniel,
The boot image hasn't been modified and this machine is the exact same model as one built just a few weeks ago, with the exact same hardware. I know this because I've compared the hardware IDs of the devices side by side and they're identical.
I'm sorry but I don't follow. This issue only occurs after the driver pack downloads and (allegedly) applies. Up to that point, the machine has connectivity to the DP/MP and downloads and runs the first sections of the task sequence without issue. If I hit
F8 prior to the drivers being applied, I have my adapter listed and, of course, an IP address. That to me suggests the generic drivers already in the boot image work fine and don't need to be altered.

  • How to fail the task sequence if an MDT variable is not populated?

We are deploying Windows 7 using ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 CU3 integrated with MDT 2012 Update 1 using the MDT database locations table to populate the MachineObjectOU MDT variable.
Currently the "Apply Network Settings" task will read the MachineObjectOU variable and add the computer account to the OU returned by the MDT database query.  If no value is returned it will not domain join the computer, instead it continues
the task sequence and configures the machine as a workgroup machine.
I would like the task sequence to fail if the MachineObjectOU variable is not populated by the MDT database query instead of continuing as a workgroup build.  What is the easiest way to do this?
    Thanks!
    FP

    I agree.
I would write a script that reads the Variable and checks that it has a valid content.
If it doesnt i would return an exitcode from my script and have the TS fail on that

  • Failed to Run Task Sequence on unknown computers

Hey everyone i need some major help here.  I am 99.9% sure that we dont have something configured properly but here goes.  I have a the following:
A task sequence that is enabled to deploy a image to all platforms (Console, Boot media, PXE)
I have Boot Media created that has "Enable unknown computer support"
I have a workstation that has NEVER been on our network (Bare Metal
Now here is the problem on that workstation, I use the boot media, and get a "Failed to run Task Sequence" There are no Task Sequences available for this computer"
BUT, if it has/had the SCCM agent on it.. It works fine..
    Ideas? Starting points?

A task sequence that is enabled to deploy a image to all platforms (Console, Boot media, PXE)
I have Boot Media created that has "Enable unknown computer support"
Step #2 alone is not sufficient. There has to be a deployment for the task sequence to the 'All Unknown Computers' collection too. You did not mention this ...

  • SCCM 2012 MDT 2012 UDI Require domain credentials to run task sequence

We are in the process of moving to SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for OSD from using MDT 2012 by itself. We're trying out UDI task sequences and have noticed a pretty gaping hole in functionality vs MDT 2012 by itself: password protecting a task sequence.
In MDT 2012 there was a built-in feature that required domain credentials to run a task sequence. If one exists using SCCM/MDT 2012, I haven't been able to find it. I've only found stuff like this http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2336-password-protect-a-task-sequence/ which
would allow you to set a password, but not authenticate against AD. So, I'm wondering if there are any options to protecting a task sequence with domain authentication?
My understanding is that the Refresh and Replace StageGroup only run when you kick off a UDI task sequence in Windows. That means I have to make a task sequence available to the Configuration Manager Client in order for a tech to run a Refresh/Replace. And,
that in turn means that the UDI task sequence will be visible to all users since it needs to be available to their computer. Or, am I completely missing how UDI OSD should flow?  If so, then I hope someone can correct me.
I'd appreciate any help or advice you can give. Thanks.

    Hi,
I am sorry to say that you are correct in your conclusions. There is no builtin way in ConfigMgr/MDT/UDI to require a domain username/password to run a task sequence, your option from Windows-noob.com is one way of solving it.
    Regards,
    jörgen

Thanks for the info. What about workflow? How do you usually handle UDI in Replace and Refresh scenarios? Do you deploy the task sequence to collections that users can access?

  • Cant get 2013 data base AdminPassword= to work in OSD task sequence

I'm using the MDT database to consolidate five windows 7 task sequences on five SCCM2007 site servers to one task sequence on one 2012 R2 site server. I got my locations by ip subnet working and most of the settings applied successfully, Join Domain, add
a group to the local  admin group, but I can't seem to get the AdminPassword=MyPassword to work.
I've got an "apply windows settings" step in my task sequence. But the machine keeps getting what ever its password is set to.
If I leave it bland then I get a blank password etc.. If I run without the "apply windows settings" step then then the task sequence fails and finishes with a mini setup prompting for a computer name. I can see the other values that are collected
    in the Bdd.log:
    Remapping variables.
Property OSDDomainName is now = My.Domain
<Message containing password has been suppressed>
I even tried adding the default setting directly to the customsettings.ini file: AdminPassword=MyPassword. But the workstation still takes its password from the "apply windows step". I'm going to try and enable debug logging and see if the log
has anything about the local admin password. Anyone have any ideas? What am I doing wrong here?

I wrote\borrowed\modified a powershell script that gets the value of the base 64 encoded AdminPassword variable from the MDTDB, decodes it and applys it to the OSDLocalAdminPassword.
This runs after the gather step in my OSD task sequence and before the Apply Windows Settings step.
I never figured out why this was necessary but it works. Here is the power shell script if anyone has a similar problem:

  • Drivers for different Operating Systems in one Task Sequence

    Hi,
I would like to implement a solution for our deployment process. We are using UDI Wizard, and in this moment in time we are deploying only Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8.1 x64.
Here is how it looks in UDI:
Drivers for our HP laptops are setup and working with Windows 7 x64, but when I choose Windows 8.1 x64 from my dropdown menu in UDI, during the deployment process I get the driver package that is made for Windows 7 x64 version.
What am I missing here? Ofcourse i added all of this conditions to see if it works because I am testing it right now:
If possible we would like to use the same TS for both OS (and in the future Windows 10).
    Thanks,

    Hi Jason,
thanks for your reply. As I tried to explain above, I just added many conditions to see if it would work, random throwing of everything, nothing more. Well it didnt.
    It worked like this:
    1. First you configure the operating systems in UDI wizard, then their name is what counts.
    2. Then you implement OS into UDI task sequence, and for that to works you also use OSDImageName variable.
For example Windows 7 x64 Enterprise you Add condition->TS variable->OSDImageName equals "Windows 7 x64 Enterprise", I got that name from UDI wizard. For Windows 8 x64 the same, just make another step including Install Operating system Windows
8 and change the variable according to the name.
    3. Then create install driver steps both for different OS and also add the condition like bellow:
You have to specify both conditions in order to work, otherwise it will install both driver packages.
    Thanks,

  • MDT 2013 - Different settings per task sequence

    Hi,
I'm trying to create different settings for different TaskSequenceIDs. For one TS I wanted to join the pc to a workgroup and do SkipApplications=YES and for the other TS I wanted to join a domain and do SkipApplications=NO. But I can't get it to work for
    some strange reason.
I've tried and tested this solution https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Different-settings-per-4faa55e9#content but it doesn't work.
I tried this too : http://www.the-d-spot.org/wordpress/2012/07/20/how-to-use-different-settings-per-task-sequence-with-mdt-2012/ but it doesn't work.
Perhaps MDT 2013 acts different then 2012 and 2010???? It would be nice if you could help me out on this one. :-)
    Paul

@fapw, we use the database for a few years now and we're quite familiar with it. But we're going to install MDT for a client and they don't have SQL and they don't want to have it installed on one of their servers. So that's why I'm playing with the customsettings.ini.
The first I made was for a plain and simple capture, then I added Make&Model and I'm making it more and more complex. The idea is to have a final customsettings.ini that imitates - or gets as close as possible to - what we have already accomplished with
    the database.
In the meantime I've read that the skip-panels-stuff is something that stands above everything and thus it's not possible to control that using properties, like f.ex. MACaddress. Well, that's alright then.
But I've got GOOD news for you all : selecting values for variables based on TaskSequenceID DOES WORK in MDT 2013 and ADK 8.1. This is what I did :
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Different-settings-per-4faa55e9#content
So I've downloaded the vbs, created an "external" tasksequenceid.ini which is read at the beginning of my Task Sequence and booted up the pc. When you select the tasksequence of your choice the parameters get filled in correctly ! OSDComputername
was the variable that I used to show me if the other tasksequenceid.ini file was read or not. If yes, the computername would have to be my value, if not it would be MININT-randomnumber.
Only downside of this fantastic wizard is that going back to change one of your options is not possible anymore. The moment a variable has a value, it doesn't change anymore! That particular behaviour was messing up my tests yesterday.

  • How to use two different boot images in the same task sequence

I have a need to use Two boot images in the same task sequence. The reason is I'm deploying ZTI to McAfee encrypted devices which I have already done with McAfee v6 Encryption successfully.
Here's where my problem comes in. We are about to deploy McAfee v7 which means we will have a mix of v6 and v7 in our environment. I must have two special Boot images one with v6 drivers and one with v7 drivers in order for my process to work. I don't see
a way right now to assign more than one boot image to a task sequence. Is there any way to do this?
If I can't do that then I will have to create two task sequences and target collections based on the Endpoint Encryption version to deploy to.
If anyone has suggestions it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Have you tested copying those files to %windir%\system32\drivers during the WinPE session (just enable commandline support to your boot image) to see if they need to be in there before the OS start? Test that and if they don't need to be there during the
    boot up of WinPE then:
Create two packages (v6 and v7)
"Run command line", use the package created earlier and just use "copy /Y .\*.* %windir%\system32\drivers" ...again, this should be run according to your needs, variable or some other check like I said

  • SCCM 2012 R2 task sequence: Move a computer object to different OU

    Hi,
We migrate from Windows XP to 7.
During task sequence, we need to be sure the object is moved from one OU to another (XP to Vista OU/policies).
What is the best way to do this?
Could be wrong, but it seems that a default task sequence does not move the object although there is a step which explicitely says to put the computer object in a certain OU ("apply network settings").
    Please advise.

  • Problem to migrate a non-global zone to a different machine.

Hi, recently, I had try to migrate a non-global zone to a different machine but it’s doesn’t work.
    1. First, this is the structure of my machine with my non-global zone:
    host1# uname -a
    SunOS testsolaris 5.11 snv_101b i86pc i386 i86pc
    host1# zfs list

    2. In second, I had detach my non-global zone “zonetest” whit this commands :
    host1# zoneadm –z zonetest halt
    host1# zoneadm –z zonetest detach
    3. In third, I had move my zonepath to my new host.
    host1# cd /big-zone/export
    host1# tar cf zonetest.tar zonetest
    host1# sftp jay@new-host
    host1# put zonetest.tar
    Uploading ….
    host1# quit
    4. Unpack my .tar file
    host2# cd /big-zone/export
    host2# tar xf zonetest.tar
So, after this, I think that my zonepath is transfert to my new host.
This is the structure of my new host :
    jay@alien:~$ uname -a

    *I have a mountpoint to /big-zone/export
    5. I had try to configure my zone on my new host and I receive and error message:
    host2# zonecfg -z zonetest

Use 'create' to begin configuring a new zone.
    zonecfg:zonetest> create -a /big-zone/export/zonetest

And my new big-zone (on the second host) show this in the /big-zone/export/zonetest folder :

  • Deploying 100% of available software updates during a task sequence

    Hi,
Can somebody tell me if it actually possible to fully patch a computer via an SCCM 2012 task sequence using the install software updates task? If you have managed this can you shed some light on where I'm going wrong? For me, this behaviour is exactly
the same as ConfigMgr07... It simply doesn't work as it should.
I've integrated IE9 into my image and then added in all available updates via offline servicing. My task sequence installs windows, installs Adobe Reader, Office 2010 and Visio Viewer 2010. I then reboot the machine and perform all my patching via the Install
Software Updates task (with it set to 'all'), then reboot again. I do this four times in total.
It downloads and installs some 24 updates in the first instance. The second, third and fourth time it doesn't download or install anything.
When the task sequence completes and the OS first starts up there are 10 updates waiting to be installed (including updates for Adobe Reader and Flash that I have published to the WSUS server via SCUP). After installing those and rebooting there is a single
hotfix available (KB2533552). After installing that and rebooting, .NET4 Client Profile is waiting for me. After that there another nine more updates are available (mainly .NET4). Reboot, .NET4 Framework, reboot 5x .NET4 framework updates.
Why does the software update task not install 'all' updates when that is what I've selected? I have an automatic deployment rule targeted to my OSD and Unknown Computers collections. The rule is set to include Windows 7, Office 2010 and Adobe products with
    all update classification types.

I don't have a pause in my script and have not encountered any issues with the scan not finishing before the Software Update installation step. This is true for my B&C TSs which install in the region of 200 updates, including custom trusted publisher
updates from SCUP 2011. So I can't really comment on that side of things.
With regards to the patching side of things: I tried removing the multiple reboot patches from my Task Sequences by excluding them from the Auto Deployment Rules that target the same containers as the task sequences by adding -KBxxxxxx in the ADR. Unfortunately,
due to me having the multiple reboot updates targeted up 'update' collections that are populated by hardware/software DB queries, any PC that is performing a 'Refresh' TS ends up with the offending patches being targeted for install anyway and the TS fails.
For a long time I was just removing the client record from the DB and recreating it so that the offending updates would not be targeted to the client. Once the client has been refreshed, a hardware inventory is performed, the collections updated daily, the
multiple reboot patches are detected and are scheduled for install for the following Friday afternoon. This used to annoy me as I don't like 'incomplete' clients being delivered to users' desktop.
Recently though I've been toying with offline servicing. At first I attempted to integrate every available update but this just ended up killing things too. A number of the updates that can be installed via offline servicing have a .net 4 pre-requisite
but because .net 4 cannot be slipstreamed, the prerequisite is not satisfied, Windows setup fails and so does the TS. So using this method there is a chance you'll end up installing a patch that will kill your image... Still not ideal.
What I have settled on is slipstreaming specific patches into my installation media using dism and then running a B&C TS to update my image.
This is the batch file I use (you'll need to change to suit):
    Dism /mount-wim /wimfile:D:\SCCMContentSources\Applications\Microsoft\Windows\7\Professional\SP1\64-bit\Sources\install.wim /index:1 /mountdir:D:\HotFixIntegration\Offline
    Dism /Image:D:\HotFixIntegration\Offline /LogPath:SourceAddPackagex64.log /Add-Package /PackagePath:D:\HotFixIntegration\Hotfixes\64-bit\Updates
    Dism /Image:D:\HotFixIntegration\Offline /LogPath:SourceAddPackagex64.log /Add-Package /PackagePath:D:\HotFixIntegration\Hotfixes\64-bit\IE
    Dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:D:\HotFixIntegration\Offline /commit
The first line mounts the image.
The second line slipstreams the following .msu updates:
    kmdf-1.11, KB2526870, KB2529073, KB2545698, KB2561285, KB2574819-v2, KB2592687, KB2617858, KB2670838, KB2726535, KB2729094-v2, KB2786081, KB2834140-v2, KB2847311, KB2855844, KB2862330-v2, KB2862335, KB2864202, KB2868038, KB2876284, KB2883150, KB2884256,
    KB2965788, KB2984976, KB917607, KB971033, KB976399, KB977944, KB981750
These are essentially just the multiple reboot patches and their pre-requisites, IE11 prerequisites, and a few KBs that not published to WSUS.
The third line slipstreams IE11 from the IE11 .cab file.
The fourth line commits the changes to the install media.
After running a B&C TS from this modified installation source there are no updates available to freshly deployed images (until the next patch Tuesday!).
Unfortunately this a manual process as I need to check the multiple reboot KB article each time updates are released but it's the only way I can put out 100% patched PCs and have a PC Refresh task sequence that doesn't fail.

  • API Setup - Different machine?

    Hey guys,
Just starting out here with the API and trying to get my bearings. There doesn't seem to be a lot of good documentation on things. In fact, I can't even get a good list of what the API can and cannot do. If anyone knows of such thing, please let me know.
But my question is in regards to a development environment. I've seen the docs for setting up eclipse and such, but one thing I cannot figure out is if I can develop and test on a different machine that that on which OIM is running? Can I create my project folder with the /config /lib whatever folders on a DIFFERENT machine than OIM?
    Thanks much

Yes you can definitely do that. See an OBE for 'Running OIM API's through Eclipse*. For that you have to copy all OIM specific files in the Eclipse workspace and then this as a whole behaves as a design console. So you have no limitation to run it on OIM server machine.
For docs, the only OIM API's docs available are with the installation docs. They are not descriptive at all. They just tell you what API expects and what it returns. Nothing very clear. Many a times you need to hit-n-try to see the results.
    Thanks
    Sunny
