Different video qualities

I started filming a video with a pretty low quality camera and finished filming with an HD camera.
My first set of footage has a frame width: 320 and frame height: 240
My second set of footage (AVCHD) has a frame width: 1440 and frame height: 1080
I am trying to use both sets of footage to make my video. However,after importing the low quality footage, it clearly isn't playing properly in comparison to the HD footage. I was thinking about how documentaries use super old footage and mix that up with new footage. I was wondering if anyone know how documentary makers do that? I am pretty new to the program, with minimal editing experience in general. I have some experience with final cut pro and imovie.
Thanks!

  • Two different video files in the same clip

    Well, I've been looking around and have been wondering if it's possible t have two different video files play at the same time, both being shown at the same time, for example, what I would like to do is; I have two separate video files, one of me playing rhythm on a guitar, the other of me soloing, and would like the to play at once, both being visible at the same time, one on each side of the screen.

    if you're using iMovie vers≤6, look at the plug-in makers for some PIP (picture in picture) plug-in...

  • Sync audio with two different video files to create split screen

    I want to sync two different video files to a high quality audio file and create a split screen from there in Final Cut Pro X. Help please?

    I'm following along at home, Tom, trying to make sense out of your instructions. (Editorially: This kind of operation is among the reasons I thoroughly loathe FCPX.) This would have been easy in FCP7. Perhaps it's actually the same amount of work (you are describing operations in FCPX I have not bothered to try yet—too scared) but it's far more direct the old way: Find sync points for all three files, stack them up in a timeline, nudge till precisely matched, apply effects.
    But I'm glad you're here to help us through this stuff!

  • Using different video outputs?

    Hello,
    I was wondering if Director can use the different video
    outputs on many video cards? I'd like to use the S-Video to send
    video to a projector and then the VGA output to a monitor.

    Out of the box... no.
    Check this link.

    Look under "Device Control/Input" and "Video" categories.
    Hope that helps.

  • Multi-clip with different video codecs. Can it be done?

    Is it possible to create a multi-clip when using different video codec (i.e. HDV 1080i50 & HDV 1080p25)?
    Thanks.

    Nope. Convert one to match the other using Compressor. Or better yet, convert them both to matching ProRes 422 files.

  • Can you layer different videos together in FCE?

    I'm curious if it's possible to take parts of different videos and mesh them together in FCE? By this I mean take footage from one and maybe send it to the background while something else plays on top of it at the same time, if that makes sense?
    For example: say in one segment I have a laser light show and in another one I have people dancing. Would I be able to combine the footage into a new segment with the people dancing and the laser show sent to the background so that it looks like the people are dancing in the laser show?

    I figured it out and was able to do what I wanted to do. It didn't involve the use of a green screen, as I was inquiring about existing footage and superimposing it together.

  • I created a slideshow using lightroom3 with music at 1070p, then put it to both a CD and a DVD.  I cannot play either back on my iMac.  It is jumpy and unusable on playback.  Different Video card needed?  Any Help?

    I created a slideshow using lightroom3 at 1070p with music.  After transferring the slideshow to a DVD I could not play it back on my iMac without a lot of skipping.  Any ideas? Different Video card??

    As I said, I've not used Lightroom (and I tried to find some info on the Adobe website, but they like to make it difficult to find things - the only thing easy to find was the "buy" button LOL).
    I get some pretty good quality - and actually reduce my videos from 1080 to 720p because of the enormous file size, rendering time required, and the fact that I simply cannot tell the difference on my 42" HDTV. My workflow is: create a slideshow in Photo to Movie (I've found that superior to anything else I've tried), add that to my iMovie project (in between video clips, etc), add transitions, titles, or whatever. Export at the highest settings (experimented with different settings on a 30 sec clip) to desktop. Fire up iDVD, customize a theme/menu with videos, music, stills and then add my movie(s). Encode there to highest quality, create a Video TS folder (which will include all the files necessary so you can delete the originals if you want) or burn from there. If I do the folder method, I use Roxio Toast to burn it at the slowest speed available.
    Using that workflow, my movies rock (if I say so myself  ) and have a great quality. And I've never had a coaster.

  • Different video formats

    Hi, I need some help.
    I've been using Premiere Pro for about a month now, so I know the basics, but I'm still not an expert.
    My problem is that the filming I've been doing (using Fraps) is in 3 different video formats :
    1. 640x400 with 120 fps
    2. 720x450 with 120 fps
    3. 1280x800 with 30 fps
    I've tried putting them all together in a sequence and editted the video sizes/formats so they all fit each other, but it seems to ruin the quality of the videos and also make it blurry at places (especially when exporting). Now my question is, if it is possible to have all 3 video formats in one sequence without it ruining the quality?
    I've thought of changing the video formats before importing them into Premiere Pro - just not sure if this is possible.
    Thanks in advance!

    Upscaling that 640 footage to anything "higher" would be problematic, so you'd be limited at best to the 720 to get really usable output. But if you're downscaling to the 640, then if done properly should look good. What's your settings for sequence & export?

  • Other question: There is a way to apply different video channels to different program monitors?

    I'm editing a marriage ceremony. There is two cameras on the couple in different angles, and there is a camera roaming the church for detais on the audience. I synch them in the a sequence, cut off the shaky parts on the roaming camera and I alternate between the two cameras. I can't see what is behind the layer hierarchy, so I turn its visualization off to se what's happening on the other cameras, and this is quite unpratical.
    So, how to do it? To make different preview outputs for different video channels on the same sequence?

    There is no special trick to qualifying answers. There are just different opinions as to what the proper answer should be. Very seldom will anyone here steer you wrong. You just might have better results from one type of answer than another.
    I just happen to be of the opinion that the Creative Cow provides the best bang for the buck. Lynda.com is not free, but has the advantage of taking you through a real project to come up with a solid result.
    To Google it yourself, as you have seen, is a perilous journey through heavily accented and sometimes poorly put together tutorials. Once you find Andrew's tutorials, you are in good hands. There are other good ones, and Occasionally I will put something together myself. But for a start, use Andrew's tutorials to get you most of the way there.

  • Flex - loading different videos problem

    Hi all, I'm using Flex Video Player component from Flash Builder 4.5 for a Video System. At this time everything is on a localhost at this time. I use the following javascript function the call the FlexPlayer.swf and create the HTML for the player:
    function createPlayer(videoSource){
        document.writeln("<div id=\"player\">");
        document.writeln("<object width=\"489\" height=\"414\" FlashVars=\""+videoSource+"\">");
        document.writeln("<param name=\"player\" value=\"bin-debug/FlexPlayer.swf\">");
        document.writeln("<embed src=\"bin-debug/FlexPlayer.swf\" name=\"player\" width=\"489\" height=\"414\" FlashVars=\""+videoSource+"\">");
        document.writeln("</embed>");
        document.writeln("</object>");
        document.writeln("</div>");
    The PHP variable which contains the source of the FLV video is $fileName. Then the parameter passing to Javascript is:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var videoSource = "<?php echo $fileName; ?>";
        createPlayer(videoSource);
    </script>
    The problem lies in the FlexPlayer.mxml file where I need parameter for the video source
    <s:VideoPlayer id="Player" left="0" top="0" width="497" height="414"
                           skinClass="MySkin" source="FlashVars"/>
        </s:Group>
    FlashVars contains the video source as you can see from the code above but for some reason I can't watch different videos in the player. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • How to use different video formats in the one timeline?

    Hi everyone,
    So I am in the middle of stringing together a rough cut for a surf flick/documentary shot in some remote Indonesian islands…
    Things so far are going well, but I am slightly confused regarding the best way to tackle a slight issue (hopefully slight!) of video format compatibility.
    The main shooting for the film was done with .mov video format and this has been imported/captured into final cut pro 7 using the correct settings, which has now formed the basis for my rough cut.
    However, I did a lot of filming with some other cameras (underwater, POV etc) and so also have some crucial footage in different formats that to my knowledge will not be compatible with the timeline that I have already created in FCP.
    The files are as following:
    AVI
    MOD
    MP4
    I am assuming the best way to go about things is convert all these different files into a compatible form that I can then drop straight into my existing timeline.
    Unfortunately, I am just beginning to learn the more techy aspects of editing and I don’t have the first idea of how to go about doing this…?
    Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated…
    Thanks in advance,
    m

    Although there are kinds of standard workflows for best quality in final product, it helps to know a bit more about your setup... what is your primary format? Without knowing that, the best way forward is to convert all of your footage to Apple ProRes. Especially the MP4 stuff. There are different ways about doing that, but I personally recommend Compressor. This can take some time depending on the amount and lengths of your shots, but it is well worth the process.
    Make sure you choose 48k / 16bit AIF for all of your shots that have audio. If some of your footage is 1080p and some is 720p, I personally leave that alone because when you have this type of a difference in footage, I like to set my sequence to 720p giving me the option to move or pan the 1080p clips inside of the 720p sequence. Final Cut Pro is very good at handling that difference.
    Hope the edit goes well; sounds like a nice project!

  • SLI - Can I use two different video card versions for SLI?

    Hello,
    Can I use two different generations of MSI video cards that implement the same GPU for SLI?
    The two video cards are:
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv2 GeForce GTX 260 896MB <-- What I currently have
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv3 GeForce GTX 260 896MB
    MSI N260GTX-T2D896-OCv4 GeForce GTX 260 896MB
    The main difference between these three seems to be that the OCv3 has two fans and a different heatsink than the OCv2.  The OCv4 has one fan like the OCv2 and but it is located in a different location and some weird spikey heatsink thing going on.  I already have the OCv2 but I am looking to get another card for SLI and newegg doesn't sell the OCv2 anymore.  The important thing is that I am looking for is stability and it seems that the most ideal setup would be to get identical cards.
    By the way, why are there so many versions (updates?) to this card?  Have there been issues related to the card that necessitate a revision?
    Thanks

    Different coolers(HS and fans) and possibly different makers of vRAM.  But, you should be able to run SLI without issues regardless of the versions.

  • Adobe Media Encoder exports different video than what appears in CS4 timeline

    I'm using Premiere CS4 to edit a short skiing video.  All shots were taken using a GoPro @ 60fps, 720p.  All of the clips were converted into slow motion by using "Interpret Footage" and setting the frame rate to 24.  I used the sequence preset "AVCHD 720p 24", and editing seemed to work fine.  The video played smoothly and correctly.  However, after exporting in Adobe media encoder, the video was far different than what I previewed in the timeline.  It seems as though each clip shows up at the correct time, but it disregarded any trimming I did to the clips and each one is played from the very beginning.  Also, each clip plays extremely slowly, and there is signifigant ghosting (frame blending issue?).  I can also see that the preview window that shows up while I set the export settings displays the incorrect video as well.  However, if i change it from "source" to "output", it displays it correctly.  I tried exporting using H.264 720 24p and the youtube HD widescreen preset, both of which failed.  I am somewhat new to HD video, but I cannot seem to come up with any reason why my video will not export correctly.  Any thoughts?
