Difficulty with SELECTING proper VIDEO CLIP within MOTION3.

Hi all.
I'm editing in fcp and want to create smooth slo-mo's in Motion 3.
In my fcp sequence I highlight my clip and "send to Motion"...
Motion opens with the clip in the viewer.
Under the inspector tab I go to timing --> in frame blending I select 'motion-blur blending', then select 50% in the speed tab.
The clip looks awesome -- nice and smooth, but the only problem is that Motion doesn't allow me to select which PART of the clip it's effecting...and usually the part of the shot that I need slo-mo'd is not part of what Motion selects.
Why is this? How do I adjust the perameters so that I can pick which part of the clip gets slowed?
Thanks.
Mark

If you have tried to speed change in FCP prior to sending to Motion, the speed changes do not properly move into Motion, so Motion will be using the wrong section of the clip.
Just make sure you're sending the clip you want to Motion with speed unchanged and you should be fine...

  • Can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie

Hi, i can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie, it only lets me import one video at a time. Apple please fix in next update or if anyone has a solution please post.

Obviously you can not select the video to import until after iMovie populates the list of videos that are available to be imported

  • Cannot select multiple video clips at a time

With the previous version, I could simply select all and import all my videos and pictures at once, in the order I copied them to my hard drive. Now, I have to "select entire clip" then, press letter E on every video clip, then, go back and add pictures. This is a huge downgrade from the previous version of IMovie.

OK, I have two video clips. I just need to shrink one video and put it in to the corner of my other video. How can I do this?

    Hi
Picture in picture - is no a standard option in any version of iMovie.
iMovie ? - 6 You'll need a third party *plug in* to do this: (iM'08 no go at all)
    • Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    • GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    • cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    • Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html

*You also can do this with QuickTime-pro.* But You need the disipline of an angle.
    Quoting:
Klaus1 writes: As Bengt says, you can do this with Quicktime Pro. Here is how:
Organize the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in the relevant numbers in the two boxes, in Video Track 1.
    PAL (for Europe):
    Standard DV (4:3) 788 x 576
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 1050 x 576
    NTSC (for the USA):
    Standard DV (4:3) 720 x 528
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 874 x 480
This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanted in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
    Have fun!
    END OF QUOTE !
*My way:* When I started to need more than iMovie could offer I took a look into
FinalCut Express and counting the sum of all Plug-ins needed and FCE I found out
that FCE is a real bargin.
    • color-correction
    • blue/green screen
    • 99 video and audio tracks
    • slightly rotation a clip eg 1 deg - nice horizon

  • Without Mouse: Toggle between selected timeline video clips- Keyboard Only Method

Simple Question, but can't able to find the answer on  internet.
How do I select the timeline video clip without clicking on it with mouse help?
All I  want to do is, select the video with keyboard only. And switch the cam layer on cut. In other words toggle the selected clip on cut points, with keyboard only.
    Thank you all
    Max

I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say "the timeline video clip" but here are a few keyboard shortcuts that may help: the q key toggles between the Timeline and the Viewer windows; if the Timeline window is active, the up arrow key moves the Timeline playhead to the previous edit; the down arrow key moves the Timeline playhead to the next edit.
You can find more here: http://documentation.apple.com/search/#q=keyboard%20shortcuts and here: https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=fcp+7+keyboard+shortcuts&sourceid=o pera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest

  • How do I select multiple video clips in iMovie?

I want to select a lot of video clips from the Event Library in iMovie and move them into a Project for editing.
However as there are no up/down arrows on the scroll bar it is really difficult to highlight/select using the cmd button (as I then need to grab the scroll bar and move it down at the same time).
Is there an easy way to do this?
For instance, can I change the clips from visual to a list of file names that I could just then transfer to my project and then switch back to the visual view of each file/clip?
    Thanks.

You can also select 'ranges' of clips as you describe using the Shift key. First select #1 clip, hold down Shift, then click on the #29 clip. This will get ALL the clips between #1 and #29 without clicking individual clips or selecting all and chippping away. Same goes for the second example. Click once on the #71 clip then hold down Shift, and click the #100 clip, and everything in between will also be selected. So there's two kinds of clicking:
    1. Command/Click (for selecting or deselecting one at a time)
    2. Shift/Click (for selecting ranges or deselecting ranges of clips all at one time)

  • Playing video clips within Photos app

I have a pile of video clips taken with a compact Sony player that outputs in MPEG1. Using MPEG Streamclip I converted a number of them into MPEG4 so I could view them on my iPad along with the photos taken at the same time.
The problem I have is that around a half of them will sync, display and play on the iPad - all older videos that were shot and converted at 320x240 resolution. The more modern ones taken at 640x480 will not sync to the iPad at all. With the conversions the only different thing I did was set frame rate at 24 per second, I think I did this will all of them however.
Any idea why the iPad will not display these bigger but still conventional res clips?
    Thanks.

In iTunes under the Advanced tab there is an item for Creating iPad and Apple TV version. You might want to try using that on the videos that do not play.

  • All my video clips within my movie have a yellow warning symbol in the lower left-hand corner. Can't seem to understand why. Help?

All my video clips in an almost-complete movie now have a yellow warning symbol in the lower-left hand corner. How can I resolve this?

It's hard to say - as You can select to use another one in another location - which I know nothing about.
    • to find out where iMovie tries to find material - As I remember it one put the pointer arrow ontop of one yellow exclemation mark and "Hands off" for some secondes - and it will tell.
I use to do a quick - [Shift+cmd+3] to do a screen dump - so that I can read this address in full and try to set all material back to this location. iMovie can not be set to find it elsewhere - only alt is to re-insert material and now not move it - but this is most often a more tedious way - than just move material back to where iMovie tries to find it.
    • To set iPhoto to another Library
    - Start iPhoto - BUT KEEP - alt-key down during full up-start (also called the option key)
    - Now You can select another one

  • Can anyone help with emailing a video clip?

I want to email a video clip to a person that uses a PC. I have sent it as a "quick time movie file" and as an "MPEG 4 video type" and the recipient is not able to view the video. In one format, the video would play but was only a white screen. In my "send" box, I can play the video fine. Can I convert it some other way to make it accessible to someone with a PC?
    Thanks for any help!

Mr. Brewer is correct. That's a quick and easy way to remedy that situation...

  • Problem with the imported video clips

Hi! I'm very new to Premiere Pro, so please don't scold me :)
I have a video file (.AVI) that I want to remove the audio from, and insert a new audio track.
Here's my problem: When I import the AVI file into Premiere, and double-click it to preview it, it is really glitchy. The video is 1 minute long. During ~5 seconds in the very beginning, the whole video's "video" track is played, extremely speeded up (It plays through it all). The rest of the video consists of a freezed frame, and the audio is played in normal pace.
I do not know which codec the AVI-file is encoded with, is this relevant?
When I restarted Premiere the first time, it told me that it had to download codecs. I pressed OK and the codecs was downloaded and installed okay, but the problem remains.
I copied the .AVI-file directly from my camera (Canon IXUS 700 I believe).
When I play the original AVI file with VLC, everything runs perfectly with audio and video.
I'm totally clueless, anyone have a clue how I can solve this?
Any help at all appreciated, thanks in advance!

    >I do not know which codec the AVI-file is encoded with, is this relevant?
    Very relevant. Please provide
these details to help us help you.

  • Safari Problems with websites w/video clips

Hello, this is my first MAC so please don't flame me.
When going to sites that play video/audio clips I'm getting "plugin not found" but there's no link where to get the plugin (reminds me of the netscape days).
    Specific Error:
has content of MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed
Please tell me where I can get Safari plugins. Thanks in advance. By the way, the audio plays fine.

How strange then - that removing the real plugins will give a MIME type “audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin message in safari - yet as soon as they are installed.... the pages work again.
Have a look for 'mime' in help on a mac - esp in the QT sections. An example...
MIME Settings: When files are downloaded over the Internet, each file is assigned a MIME type to indicate what kind of file it is. Your browser keeps track of which plug-in should be used to display each kind of file.
QuickTime can display a wide variety of file types. To make QuickTime handle more or fewer file types, you can edit the MIME type settings. If you edit the list, you can return to the default list by clicking Use Defaults.
mime, of itself.... is absolutely not something incompatible with macs or safari.

  • Making a movie, mostly SLR stills with multiple small video clips...

My Background... sorry for the long post..
I have made multiple movies on PC's and had fairly good results with DVD output. I also used iMovie 06 with decent results when shared to iDVD. Now with iMovie 08 to iDVD the DVD looks like you are looking through cellophane. I tried many different settings/options with poor results before deciding I need something different. I want my movies to at least look average when put to DVD.
FCE looks to be a good contender, but reading through the 7 pages of posts I am not sure it is great for using SLR stills in a large number. I am making a movie with possibly 500 stills and am going to "interject" maybe 20-30 short videos shot from multiple cameras...
    Reading one of the posts someone recommended Photo to Movie for stills... I am just wondering;
    A. Put my Stills together with Photo to Movie. It looks like they have an export option to FCE.
    B. Import the movie to FCE and then "cut in" the rest of the videos into the desired spots.
    C. Add titles, chapters, lettering, etc.
    D. Send to iDVD.
Has anyone had experience doing this, or is there a better option....??? Will FCE do all of this without Photo to Movie...?? AM I SPINNING MY WHEELS....?? lol...
I am going to spend a lot of time putting this together and am looking for a good "outcome". Any help is appreciated... Thanks in advance.. Daryl...

I am becoming very cavalier in my attitude to video (and most other things) and get extremely high quality results with digital stills simply by importing them straight from the camera (5MP JPEGs) and mixing them with video as required.
Whilst you will get very good quality, be aware that it will not be as good as viewing your slides on a computer using something like iPhoto's slideshow facility.
This is because your computer will reproduce every pixel (assuming your monitor is large enough!) whilst anything put into FCE (or any other video editing app) will be reduced to the dimensions of DV which is either 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
This is a tremendous reduction from even a small 5MP photo which will be around 2400x1800, so it's quite surprising that results are as good as they are.
You won't be able to go close to the TV screen to view fine detail as there won't be any there!
But viewed from six feet or so the results should be very good.

  • I cannot import video clips when working with iMovie

I have a 13" Macbook Pro running Mavericks versión 10.9.4 but lately I do not know what happened since everytime I try to import video clips into my movie or trailer I am unable to get it. Those thumbnail are grey out, I can't drag them out into my project. Why ?

In Lion, one can select a video clip, go to finder services, and click on encode video...it will transcode the .mpg to something iMovie can handle. Far as I can tell, .mpg is not something iMovie likes to play with.

  • Idvd 08 audio during the title main page, but not selected video clips?

ok, i have idvd 08 and already added the video clips and a theme song to the title main page. i even did a preview to see what it would look like if it was to be played on a DVD player and it just the way i want it. BUT when i burnt it onto a dvd and tried to play it on the tv, everything looks fine during the title main page with audio, but when i select a video clip to be played it plays without audio...plz help!
    thanks!

I took the videos from my sony cybershot through a USB cord, moved it onto my desktop and dragged it to the 'drop zones'. I don't know if this will help any but an example of the video format I'm trying to use is "MOV0144.mpg"

  • Why is a video clip from iphoto not compatible with imovie?

i have a video clip in iphoto and when i try to add it by dragging it into the videos in imovie, it says "the file will not be imported. it is not compatible with imovie". this video clip was taken with my friend's point and shoot type camera, then put on her computer, then put on a flash drive, then put on my computer. thank you so much for any help!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Some "..point and shoot.." cameras create movies in an iMovie-compatible ".mov" format, but others create .avi files, or they record in the MPEG-1 format which iMovie can't unscramble.
Not all point and shoot movies are compatible with iMovie, even if they play using Apple's QuickTime movie player which iPhoto relies on.
These non-compatible movies need to be converted to .mov format, or some other compatible format such as DV or AIC, before trying to import them into iMovie. If you have QuickTime Pro, you can just open the movie clips and then use 'Export' to save them in the .mov format.
..More details from me - or others - later; I'm dashing out right now for a bite to eat..
