Directing Bandwidth?

Hello, I have a BEF11S4 Linksys Wireless Router. I have 4 computers on this network, 1 wireless and 3 directly wired to the router. The problem is when they use BitTorrents, while i'm gaming. It takes up ALL the bandwidth so my ping and lag is increased by a trillion. Is there anyway i can direct the bandwidth to the game?

Some Linksys routers support the feature that you are looking for.  But as far as I can tell from the user guide, the BEF11S4 does not support this feature.

  • Determining network usage by program

How can I determine what programs are utilizing shares of bandwidth?

    You can try:
    community/bwbar 1.2.3-1
Generates text and graphical readout of the current bandwidth usage.
    community/bwm-ng 0.6-2
A small and simple console-based live bandwidth monitor
Yes, but these show only the whole  not per app bandwidth usage.
Afais, there is no program which shows the direct bandwidth usage of a given program.
I use a mixture  of pktstat which shows the open connections and the usage of each connection and netstat (netstat -teenap).
bwm-ng is ok, better than slurm I think. Though slurm has a nicer interface.

  • Why is my bandwidth limited in direct mode?

I have 150 Mbps internet service. I am only seeing 20Mbps on my Air using Airport Express. I have two, they both have the same result.
If I connect the Air to the modem (in bridge mode) directly through thunderbolt to ethernet, I get 150 Mbps, with either ethernet wire.
If I connect the Air to the Airport Express directly through the same wire, and the Express connected to the modem in bridge mode, I get 20Mbps. Note that I did a hard reset, so the router should not be performing any functions. In this mode, the Airport Express does not show up in AirPort Utility as expected.
How is it possible the Airport would be reducing the bandwidth to such a low level? I'm taking the modem back tomorrow, I'm wondering if it's going into some odd handshaking mode.
Just FYI, Wifi in 2.4G and 5G result in same 20Mbps. I've verified the Air is in 802.11n mode.
    Thanks!

    I thought 802.11n was up to 300Mbps?
"up to" means exactly that.....the product can operate anywhere up to 300 Mbps.
But, "up to", does not mean that it will operate at 300 Mbps.
Your actual wireless connection link is determined by a number of different factors. Some of these,  like interference, are beyond your control.
But, for the sake of argument......let's say that the AirPort Express is operating at 270 Mbps.  That 270 Mbps will get choked down to 100 Mbps when it reaches the 100 Mbps port on the AirPort Express.  You have now lost 2/3 of the speed on the network.

  • AirPort Extreme looses about half of my bandwidth than when I'm connected directly to the modem.

    ISP: Windstream 6mbps down
    Modem: sagemcom f@st 1704
    Router: AirPort Extreme 802.11ac
Connecting the AirPort to my modem in any capacity cuts my speeds by at LEAST half. Clocking speeds as low as .3 Mbps. Disconnecting the AirPort restores speeds to 5 - 6 Mbps. Any ideas?

The WAN port on the AIrPort Extreme is not negotiating correctly with the modem.
Unfortunately, there are no adjustments in the recent versions of AirPort Utility to manually change the WAN settings for best performance.
All that you can do is try another Ethernet cable, try resetting the AirPort Extreme, or try prayer or chants.
In some cases, a crossover type Ethernet cable may help if you have an old one laying around.
If nothing helps, try another AirPort Extreme since the Automatic WAN port negotiation is not working correctly on the AirPort that you have.

  • Time Capsule Bandwidth Speed versus Fios Router Directly

Verizon just replaced my Fios Router because download speeds were 5 megs/sec. I just received my new one in the mail and hooked it up. I connected to the FIOS router and was getting 27 mbps download and 5 on the upload. I went back to my original setup of turning off the Radio broadcast on the FIOS router and using my time capsule to broadcast wifi....i have dropped to 5 mbps download speed--same speeds when Verizon thought it was their problem. What do I do? I don't understand the limitations or what has happened. Can someone provide suggestions?

Bridge means to remove all routing from the TC.
Open Manual setup in airport utility (on lion v5.6 utility only).
    Go to internet tab.
    Go to Connection sharing.
Select off, bridge mode.. update the TC.. it is now bridge.
If still slow there are a number if issues.. and I doubt we have found the ultimate cause.. bad firmware in 7.6 could be one of them .. go back to 7.5.2
ie in airport utility go to the firmware update but hold down the option key and you can select older firmware.. they work better than new ones.
You also might need to reset the TC to factory to get rid of the poor settings.

  • Using a  Bi-directional Media Converter in FC Pro

I have a Canopus ADVC 300  Bi-directional Media Converter.  I'm having an issue with syncing (Voice & Lips). When I look at my canvas monitor and my external monitor (my video is maybe 1 or 2 frames off to the left or the right.  I have to say most of these movies are coming from YouTube. Does that make a difference? They look in sync when I play them back in QuickTime 7 Player, (but not on the timeline)  I have my settings in FC Pro set to 29.97. In the process of trying to make sense of it all, I'll try 29.97 and 30 fps. Is there a big difference there? Also, I started out using the H.264, it didn't seem to work that well for me. Right now i'm working Apple ProRes 422 High Quality. it seems to work a little better.
    You might have better recommendations.
    Thank You!

Is the audio following the video out through the Canopus or are the speakers being fed by an audio out through the computer?
The audio should be fed through the Canopus.
What is the clip frame rate? That is what you need to know.
fwiw - As you seem to have discovered, h.264 is not an editing codec.
Why are you using ProResHQ for youtube material? It is a total waste of hard drive space and bandwidth demand for zero benefit. ProResLT would be a much better choice.

  • Creative Cloud Files – Syncing issues/Bandwidth hogging – Does it ever work?

Having been a Dropbox user for several years I was keen to start using the 100gb of Creative Cloud storage to enable me to work on a project from home and pick up where I left off in the office.
However it simply doesn't work properly!
    For example:
I worked from home on Monday and Tuesday on a project. All the files were successfully uploaded from my home Mac within seconds/minutes. I came into work on Wednesday and the files had not appeared in my CC Files folder. I rebooted my Mac and paused and restarted the sync and left it running, a couple of the files appeared but the process seems to hang fairly quickly. I've left it running overnight and my files have still not synced! the status bar at the bottom of the CC app shows "Syncing file 7 of 181 (9hr left)" but it never gets any further.
When syncing is switched on and running the process kills all the bandwidth of my work Mac causing outgoing emails to spend up to an hour in my outgoing mail queue, slowing web browsing to a crawl, hampering any other web usage/downloads/streaming/remote access etc. To prevent this I changed the preferences to only allow CC 50% of the available upload and download bandwidth.
I have repeatedly logged out/rebooted my Mac, closed and relaunched the CC app, paused and restarted the sync process and run the
    rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/CoreSync/options.tix
command in Terminal as suggested in another thread.
The files I am syncing are not even that large, in total I am only using around 3% of my storage.
Am I on my own in experiencing these issues? Or are other people suffering too?

    Hi Matt,
In order for us to take a deeper look at what's happening here, we would need to take a look at the log files on both your machines.  The location of the coresync.log file is included below.
Could you also tell me what version of the Creative Cloud Desktop app you're using (from preferences) and the spec of the Macs?
    Log file location:
    Mac - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/CoreSync-yyyy-mm-dd.log
(On Mac, you need to use the Go To Folder option from the Go option in Finder (menu at the top).  Then in the pop up enter:
    /users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
Then select go, this will take you to the folder containing the .log files.)
Please email this to me directly on [email protected]

  • Bandwidth limit in ASA 5505

    Hello,
I am using ASA 5505  as a transparent firewall. I  have assigned ethernet 0/0 as outside interface and ethernet0/1-7 as  inside interface. There are 3 departments in office. So, i connected  ethernet 0/1 to Dept A, ethernet 0/2 to Dept B and ethernet 0/3 to Dept  C.
Now, I want to limit bandwidth to each department, e.g, 1 Mbps  download/upload to Dept A, 512 kbps download/upload to Dept B and 512  kbps download/upload to Dept C.
So, how can i do this in ASA 5505...? Please help me doing this configuration.
Your help will be much appreciable.
    Thanks,

    Hello Robin,
When you talk about policing on the input direction you have to be aware that the traffic already hit your interface, So this is why you are still seeing a higher rate,
Different than from output direction where the traffic has not been send to the interface TX,

  • HT2275 Do I need to choose "Share this printer on the network" for printers that are not connected directly to my MacBook Pro? I have two HP printers connected to an Airport Extreme (WiFi turned off). I connect by WiFi to another Airport Extreme w cable t

I have three Airport Extreme (AE) routers in my home network.
The main AE is set up for wifi access. The other two are connected by ethernet cables to the main AE. My MacBook Pro connects to the network wirelessly through the main AE. The AE in my office has two HP printers connected to it by ethernet cables. I have a Kodak All-in-one that is connected by USB to my MacBook Pro.
I reset my printer connections on my MacBook Pro and had to add all the printers back to my printer list. I don't know if I understand what the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" in the Print & Fax System Preferences window is for. My guess is that I don't need to share printers unless they are connected to my MacBook Pro by USB, so I should uncheck the "Share this printer on the network" box for the two HP printers that are connected to the AE. I print to them over the network, but they're not connected directly to any computer. I thought if my MacBook Pro wasset to share them and was shutdown, the printers might not be available to my Mac mini or Dell PC, which connect by ethernet to the office AE (which has the two printers connected to it).
    What should I do?
For printers connected directly to a Mac (or PC) by USB, check the "Share this printer on the network" box? In my Sharing Preferences, I check "Share Printers."
For printers connected to the AE by ethernet, UNcheck the "Share this printer on the network" box on my Macs (& PCs?) when I add the printers to my printer list? In my Sharing Preferences, I UNcheck "Share Printers?"

Question is - will the 2 networks (using auto channel negotiations) exist well in the same house or will there be interference?
Things will be fine since the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme will automatically search for a good wireless channel. If you assign a separate name for the wireless network, then devices will need to log in separately to this network. The extending device will need to be configured in Bridge Mode.
My suggestion would be to configure what is known as a "roaming" network in your question #2. In this case, you would assign the same wireless network name, security and password settings to the extending device and configure it in Bridge Mode.
The advantage to #2 is that you will be able to walk your laptop from a location near the Time Capsule and as you move close to the extending device, the laptop will automatically switch to pick up the stronger signal from the extending AirPort.
You are actually creating a separate network in #2, so you have the advantage of maximum bandwidth for both the TC network and the AirPort network.
Question - does the Airport Express have to be directly connected to the TC or can that connected be through a switched network?
I'm assuming that you are asking about an Ethernet switch here, correct?  The AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme can connect to the Ethernet switch, or directly back to a LAN port on the Time Capsule, whichever is easier to setup.
Question 2 - assuming I can connect the Airport Express to the TC over a switched network, will "extending" the network using the Ethernet network still reduce my overall wireless bandwidth?
Connecting the remote device using Ethernet is by far the best way to extend a wireless network because it maintains maximum bandwidth on the network. This is the way that any good commercial network is designed.
Post back if you need any tips to get things setup.

  • How can i calculate the bandwidth usage of my Azure subscription?

    Hi,
I know currently there is no API which provide bandwidth usage details. Is there any other way to find out my subscription's bandwidth usage?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Please have a look at below thread.
    Here is a snippet.
The Azure SDK doesn't provide any billing or consumption information programatically. As lgorek stated, you can approximate usage with IIS And WCF performance counters. And you'll also be able to use your own logging to track traffic from different users.
However, you won't be able to track bandwidth consumed when users download content from blob storage. Well, you could, but only if all of your blobs were private and you streamed their content through your web application instead of direct links on your web
    pages .

  • Can i use my time capsule directly without internet

I just bought a new Time Capsule. Can I use it to back up my system directly through the Airport without going through the internet

I just bought a new Time Capsule. Can I use it to back up my system directly through the Airport without going through the internet
You can use ethernet to the TC if you use wireless for the internet so both work at the same time. Bob's info is correct.. you cannot run both devices in separate networks on the same wireless client.. at the same time.
The way you word the question perhaps you are thinking the backup is going via the internet.. no, it is only local network. The TC can be plugged into your local network and it will not use any of your internet bandwidth doing backups. That traffic is between the computer and TC only.
We can give you setup instructions for however you wish to set it up.

  • Branch Office Direct Printing - server offline?

    Hi All,
We are implementing Branch Office Direct Printing and I have a question about when the server is down or, in the case of a WAN connection to/from the branch going down, the client being unable to reach the server.
I could have sworn I originally read about Windows 8/2012 being smart enough to send the print job straight from the client to the printer in cases where it can't talk to the server, but now I seem unable to locate that information.  Is that indeed
    the case (hopefully)?
    Thanks,
    Wes

Branch Office Direct Printing may benefit your organization in the following ways:
Client      computers running Windows Server 2012 obtain printer information from the      print server, but send the
print jobs directly to the printer. The print      data no longer travels to the central server and then back to the branch      office printer.
The      printer information is cached in the branch office, so that if the print      server is unavailable for some
reason (for example if the WAN link to the      data center is down), then it is still possible for the user to print.
The      client computer renders the print job before sending it to the printer.      The major difference between Branch Office Direct
Printing and Client-Side      Rendering (CSR) is that Branch Office Direct Printing does not send the      print job to the server. Instead the job is sent directly to the printer,      resulting
in a significant reduction in network bandwidth usage when the      printers are centrally managed.

  • Insufficient Bandwidth Linksys WRT54G 2.2

IChat 3.01 works fine if I connect my computer directly to my Comcast cable modem. When connected through the WRT54G I can text chat but audio chat attempts produce the dreaded "insufficient bandwidth" message. I updated the Linksys to v4.20.7. I have tried to open ports as listed in some of the other posts on this problem. I have selected Upnp enable, and Upnp disable. I have selected DHCP disable, and enable. I have reinstalled the 10.4.2 update. I have repaired permissions. In short, I have tried to utilize every fix detailed in the hundreds of messages offering fixes. Since iChat works fine without the Linksys in the mix, I am inevitably led back to the idea that somewhere I have a mistake in my Linksys setup. Has anyone got a setup guide for v4.20.7 firmware of the Linksys WRT54G that will help me step through each and every setting required to get this thing working? Or is this device just not going to ever work with iChat? Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the WRT54G (Ver 4.0/4.20.7 firmware). I have mine configured with UPnP only which opens the following ports: 1024 to 5000 Both TCP and UDP.
Try configuring it only with UPnP enabled(Take out all of the port forwarding and port openings, Unplug your modem, router, and mac and then plug them in in this order: Modem (then wait a minutes or two),router (then wait a few seconds), and then your mac and give that a go.
Then try testing with a known working screen account. (My screen name is in my profile if you want to test with me)
I've noticed the WRT54G isn't real good releasing ports from UPnP without rebooting.
That's how I got my WRT54G working and I can now chat with both Mac and PC's.
    Hope this helps!
P.S. I have my mac firewall off.
