Disable ability to rename files in JFileChooser

I am using a JFileChooser in my application, and when the user has the JFileChooser up, they can select files and click again for the ability to rename. This ability can cause failure in other parts of the application, so I want to disable the ability to do this.
Does anybody know how to go about doing this??? I can't seem to find anything obvious, and when I Googled I couldn't find anything helpful.
Thanks,
Tonya

  • Renaming files in iBooks

    I hope Apple will read this and add a feature to allow users the ability to rename files in iBooks!

    I have been renaming some picture files in Finder,
    and lately when I have been renaming them it will do
    a few fine, but then when I go to rename the next
    file I suddenly am not able enter any text in Finder
    and can rename no more files.
    I cannot offer a solution to this problem, although I can add the details of a similar situation that seems to happen to me: when I am creating new folders in Finder, after I create and name the first one, Finder no longer responds to keystrokes. Restarting Finder seems to help, but is an ugly solution to the symptom. What is the cause of this unresponsiveness?

  • Shortcut for renaming files?

    Hey all,
    I wasn't sure where to post this but since I am a newbie ....
    I made the move about a year ago to Linux with Ubuntu and then about 2 months ago to Arch Linux. The only one thing that I miss about Windows is the ability to rename files by simply highlighting them and clicking on them once more (as opposed to right clicking on the file and going through the menu to find the rename command). Is there a way to modify Gnome to be able to do this?
    Thanks!

    Aah !! My bad !
    should have read it more carefully. Yup, in that case, F2 is the way to go.

  • Can't rename files/folders after changing extension of a file

    This has gone on for a while and is quite the pain.
    So I need to change the extension of a file. I change it, it asks me do I really want to do this, and I do. Sometimes immediately, and sometimes in a while, I lose the ability to rename a file/folder - I highlight it but can't type anything. Only a restart cures it, until the next round. Really annoying.
    I've seen this syndrome posted here and there, but no real solutions. Any ideas welcome, I'm using 10.4.11 btw.
    Thanks

    Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.

    I can... you cannot. I'm not sure why. It will not work on an app icon.
    Are you sure you're doing this on a Folder?
    Perhaps it is a function of Finder. You can try deleting Finder prefs to default.
    Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then, restart, or log out and in again.
    (You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • MD5 Checksum Changes When Renaming Files in Bridge?

    Just like the title says: MD5 checksum seems to be changing when renaming files in Bridge
    Is this normal? Is there anyway to disable this? Checksums do not seem to change when renaming a file outside of Bridge (ie; in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder).
    Ken
    P.S. System is Windows 7 using Bridge CS6 (64bit)

    Thanks for the quick reply Curt.
    Until you just now asked the question, I could not explain why it should not change. Now, if I understand correctly after googling around a bit, it appears the hash can be computed either with or without the filename (among other things).
    Apparently Bridge computes the hash including the filename. It seems there is an option to compute the hash based only on the file contents (ie; without the filename). My assumption was that by default, the checksum was generated using only the files contents (ie; without the filename).
    I'm hoping someone can comment definitively on how Adobe Bridge does it and whether or not there's a way to change it.

  • Rename/Batch Rename files

    I use PSE 5.
    I name all my images before I import them into Organizer. Here is an example: 2007-11-01 071500 Bolsa Chica pelican -- meaning this picture of a pelican was taken November 1, 2007 at 7:15AM. I may have a dozen or more images of pelicans from that day, but taken at different times obviously. If I would like to rename/batch rename these files to indicate brown pelicans instead of just pelicans, can I do it within the program and still retain the date and the different times for images?
    I can't find a way to do it. And I've searched this site as well as The Missing Manual. I've been using PSE since Ver. 3, but have always used another program to batch rename files. I'm guessing Adobe expects users to rely on tags, otherwise they would have a more "sophisticated" batch rename capability.
    But am I missing something about batch renaming? Sorry for the very long post . . .
    Wendell

    I have several bones to pick with PSE5's file rename ability (in Organizer, go to File, Rename), primarily the 30-character limit on new names.
    I use long file names like
    2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC roses-1.jpg
    2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC roses-2.jpg
    2007-11-11 Al and Nadia wedding NYC Peter and Julie.jpg
    The spaces make for easier legibility to humans.
    If I were to include these files in a web address, I'd use hyphens.
    For this past Thanksgiving I toiled over the metadata in a group photo that might become important for family history, adding title, caption, keywords, date. I found that the "Save for Web" dialog strips some or all of the metadata, and other programs might or might not read or preserve the metadata.
    A number of people who receive my photos cannot readily use the metadata:
    --Naive users (gram and gramps)
    --Busy and distracted users (the niece who is a mother of 3; the day-trader who's thinking about his puts and calls)
    --People with poor support (a friend who has some sort of Photoshop Starter edition at work that does not recognize keywords; and she can't justify even Photoshop Elements)
    Even among all these folks, almost no one is using an operating system that requires short names.
    So, I put an abundance of information into my file names. Photoshop Elements allows that ON IMPORT, but not after the fact IN THE ORGANIZER.
    I just hope that this inconsistency is fixed in PSE6. I get tired of explaining this over and over again to folks.
    -- Bob
    P.S. I love Photoshop Elements, but I'm looking into moving my picture store to my MacBook Pro, and using Bridge (already installed) and GraphicConvert to manage my photos.

  • Renaming files on both iTunes and the Windows file system

    I use the voice memo app on my iPhone to record things and sync them to my laptop with iTunes. In the past when I renamed the files from the date/time default inherited from the phone, the change was copied to the file stored on the laptop -- so I could change the name to "Joe Bloggs speaks" and then find the file in the iTunes folder on my machine with the same name. Since upgrading to 10.5.1, this has changed. Now I alter the name in iTunes and  when I click on "find the file in Windows Explorer" it still has the orginal date/time name on the M4A file. Is there something I can tweak to get back the useful function I had before? Or can somebody in Apple make sure this is function is restored in the next iTunes update.

    Under the Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab do you have Keep iTunes Media folder organized? If not then iTunes won't move/rename files as you edit them.
    I'm not able to check myself just now, but I suppose it is possible that renaming has been disabled on Voice Memos so the original date & time can be recovered from Explorer and it would stop voice memos moving into your music folders after an edit instead of being in a predicatible location.

  • Unable to use reverse geocoding when renaming files

    I've asked about this on different discussion boards but no answer so far. The first versions of Lightroom that came with reverse geocoding did not have this problem. But somehow after an update in Lightroom 4 the Google reverse geocoded location fields cannot be used to rename files. This was very convenient for me to export images to people as a landscape photographer working in many places and making it easy for others to locate the place via the filename.
    Is this a bug or a Google rights thing? And is there a way to make reverse geocoded metadata permanent (not in gray and italics?) because when I overtype the place myself it does work.
    Example below: note that the fields {Country} and {City} or not added to the file name, even though they are in the metadata field.

    Don't use realtive paths, at least not without making them absolute yourself.
    Java gives you the ability to figure out the path from which the executing program was loaded. Use that, together with your relative path, to construct an absolute path.

  • How can I rename files when importing?

    Is there a way to rename files when importing them? Every method I've tried retains the original file name the camera assigns (e.g. DSC_0001). I'd like the ability to rename the files automatically either with a date or event name with sequential numbering following.
    Thanks!

    First you will have to upload from the camera to a folder on the Desktop where you can batch rename them before importing into iPhoto. That's a safer workflow IMO because you can make sure the photos are safely on the hard drive before starting any other operation.

  • Sharepoint 2013 ItemAdded event receiver for renaming files is not working

    In SP 2013 I coded an event receiver that intercepts the ItemAdded event and it just renames the file.
    It is a synchronous event (I added <Synchronization>Synchronous</Synchronization> in the Elements.xml).
    This is the code:
            public override void ItemAdded(SPItemEventProperties properties)
                SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
                    try
                        OutputDebugStringA("Inside ItemAdded");
                        string szHttpUrl = properties.WebUrl + "/" + properties.AfterUrl;
                        SPWeb openedWeb = properties.Web.Site.OpenWeb(properties.Web.ID);
                        SPFile spf = openedWeb.GetFile(szHttpUrl);
                        EventFiringEnabled = false;
                        string szUrl = properties.AfterUrl;
                        szUrl = szUrl + ".renamed";
                        string szNewFileName;
                        if (szUrl.LastIndexOf('\\') != -1) szNewFileName = szUrl.Substring(szUrl.LastIndexOf('\\') + 1);
                        else if (szUrl.LastIndexOf('/') != -1) szNewFileName = szUrl.Substring(szUrl.LastIndexOf('/') + 1);
                        else szNewFileName = szUrl;
                        if (properties.ListItem != null)
                            properties.ListItem["Title"] = szNewFileName;
                            properties.ListItem.Update();
                        spf.MoveTo(szUrl);
                        EventFiringEnabled = true;
                        base.ItemAdded(properties);

                        OutputDebugStringA("ItemAdded ERROR: " + exception.ToString());

    So it is clear that the fact that I renamed the file is causing an issue in the SharePoint upload logic.
    As a solution what I did was to not declare it as Synchronous, but if I do it then there is another error when Sharepoint shows the Edit Properties dialog... in this case the upload is OK but when it is time to show that Edit Property dialog IE fails and
    says that the file has been already modified, or that "something went wrong".
    If I use a synchronous event I get one problem. If I use the asynchronous event I get another problem... It's very frustating and I am pretty sure that a so important API like Event Receivers should have support renaming files so I hope someone can tell
    me what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance

  • Get renamed file new name

    Hello all. What I'm wanting to do is rename a file and then do some things with the new file name.
    1. I want to view the new file name with the full path
    2. I want to output the new file name with the full path to a text file or csv file
    Here is what I have for outputting the renamed file into a text file, but it isn't working:
    cls
    $resultsfile = "C:\results3.txt"
    clear-content $resultsfile
    foreach($item in gc C:\RENAME.txt){
    Rename-Item $item "1.txt" | out-file $resultsfile -append
    notepad $resultsfile
    Any thoughts on how to work with the newly renamed file name?

    Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that I'm trying to delete a bunch of files whose names are too long. So what I 'm trying to do is to rename the files first with "1.txt" and then I'm going to delete them. I just had a "forehead-slap" moment where I realized
    I could just pipe the "rename-item" into "remove-item" and that should accomplish my goals.
    But, as for my original question, if I rename a file, how can i view/use the renamed file name? Like if I renamed a file, how could I output the newly renamed file name to a text file? I tried this in my original code above, but it didn't work. Let's just
    assume that I have a single file that I want to rename to "1.txt"

  • Rename file name & format using ftp sender

    Hi all,
    This is regarding the renaming of file at sender file(FTP) communication channel and placeing the same file in the same folder.
    At FTP server at sender side (i.e.clients place) is in .txt format.But now .txt file has to rename and change into .sav foramt with below required name convention of file.
    client format is  :  SAP_Order.txt (Pervious file name).
    We need to change the file in to "SAP_Order_yyyymmddThhmmss.sav" format..
    How can i achieve this requirement?
    Can please suggests me solutions ASAP.
    Best Regards,
    satya,

    Hi,
       if your requirement is to pick the  existing file in the FTP folder...and send as idoc to the target and place the renamed file to FTP folder...
    then its simple...
    use two receivers instead of one , one for point to target and other for sender itself... (second receiver  is for  changing  the file name format....)
    Hope the above understanding is correct...if not provide more details of your requirement...

  • Deleting & renaming files - is there a shortcut to finder?

    I am a recent convert from PC to Mac. So far so good. However, one thing starts to drive me up the wall which is deleting/renaming files in programs such as photoshop, word, excel etc.etc.
    As far as I can tell, this is only possible in the finder menu. Is this Correct? I am using a lot of folders and subfolders - sometimes 3-4 levels deep. Every time I need to change/delete a file or filename - lets say while in photoshop, I have to go to finder and click my way through several levels of folders to the actual file I need to change. This is somewhat annoying and timeconsuming.
    Question 1: is there a way to do these operations in - lets say photoshop directly?
    Question 2: If not, is there a shortcut key that would point me automatically to the file in finder where I can make the changes?
    Your input would be very helpful and save me some aggravation.
    fupe

    Hi Greg,
    Thanks for your input. You are correct as far as "save" and "save as" is concerned. Windows and Mac work the same way.
    However, as far as I can tell, in Mac you can only "delete" or "rename" a file in "finder" which forces you to open up finder and locate the file in order to delete or change it.
    In windows you can do these 2 functions directly in the program (such as photoshop, excel or words). You do not have to go to "explorer or root directory" to make these changes which I believe would be the equivalent of "finder".
    In any case, Terence solved the problem. By command clicking the name (title) of the file in any program, it opens up the directory in "finder". This way makes it easy to select the file and do the changes.
