Disable auto login from terminal in 10.6

Hi everyone,
What is the command to disable automatic login from the command line in 10.6? I cannot simply delete the com.apple.loginwindow.plist file as I have other settings I need to keep.
TIA!
Andrew

Hi,
you can use the defaults system to edit this preferences file. The autologin option is stored in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow in a key named autoLoginUser followed by the user name who is configured for an auto login. To disable this option you can simply delete the autoLoginUser key by using the following command:
defaults delete /library/preferences/com.apple.loginwindow autoLoginUser
You can check the content of a preferences file by using the defaults read command:
-----------------------snip--------------------------
defaults read /library/preferences/com.apple.loginwindow
OptimizerLastRunForBuild = 21186464;
OptimizerLastRunForSystem = 168166144;
lastUser = loggedIn;
lastUserName = pronto;

  • Disabling Auto-Login Option

    How do we disable Auto-Login option in OBPM 10GR3 because I get the following error:-
    You have the autologin option enabled and the session for this execution has expired .

    So nobody else has been bitten by this stupid bug?
    Anyway, it happens on a pure VGA console too, so it has nothing to do with the video driver. And I take back the “more of an inconvenience” part – it is freaking annoying that one can not just properly change the runlevel. Oh well…

    Hi
    Make the RFC destinations of type trusted and then give your Transport Administrators the S_RFCALC role. the other way is to define users on each of the RFC's. I'd rather you use the trusted RFC's to ensure that not everyone who has access to STMS in one system automatically gets access to send transports to the other sytsems.

  • Auto login from other site

    Hi there,
    There are 2 websites with different database connections and login settings,
    which uses both the same database.
    One website is used (among other) to administer the other website, for
    example adding documents etc.
    The login on website2 is on the index.php page, from where the user is send
    to index2.php on a succesfull login.
    Since both sites use the same database, the userdata of website2 can be
    retrevieved as a recordset on a page in website1.
    Is it possible to autologin on website2 through a form in website1, and if
    yes, how can this be done with ADDT?
    Regards,
    Henk

    yes if u have have one user table or two tables which are 100% duplicate copy of each other at any time...
    then u can simply add restrict access server behaviors to all ur pages..
    when a user visits such a restricted page he is greeted with a login screen if heis not already logged in..
    after login he is thrown back to the source page..
    everything should happen transparently without any effort from ur side..
    u need to set up
    user access to web application use the user registration wizard..
    there are help/ tutorials floating around for the same.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I reset auto login from "never" to "yes"?

    I saw this question answered for OSX. But I have this issue on Safari on my iPad. I accidently touched Never but I want to Save the login information.
    Does someone know how to do this on the iPad?
    Thanks.

    Inside Settings > General I don't find Safari. I do see "Reset" and perhaps Reset All Settings?
    The thing about Private Browsing off and Accept Cookies from visited is that is how it is now set. I don't see any option to reset those. Should I just change them and then change them back? Doesn't seem right.
    I just cleared Cookies and Data. I went to the web site and filled in the information again. BUT - I as not given the option to save the login password information. So I'm guessing that choice remains from before and that I haven't quite found it yet.
    I did read on here a horror story from someone who asked AppleCare the same question about their iPhone and was told the only way was to save all the data from the phone and then start over and to set it up as a new phone. Yikes.
    Just went to my Yahoo page. I again filled in the info from scratch as it no longer remembered. But again there was no dialogue asking if I wanted to save that info.

  • Updating and Auto Login

    I've looked all through the forum and can't find an answer so here goes. I have my iMac set to automatic login to my wifes account. Here are my steps for runing Software update. I log out of wifes account login to admin, restart to CD, run disc utility to repair permissions, restart. Log out of wifes acct, back into admin, run software update, restart. Go through theoriginal steps from repairing a second time and restart. Now my to my question. Is it ok to disable auto login totally (forever) or do the updates need to have a full login to complete? Will the updates complete if the bootup stops at the login pane? Sometimes if there are more than one update avalible depending on what they are I may do run them seperatly (carry over habit from windows) this ads an extra step to updates. Thanks in advance.

    Admin account is separate and used only for installing software or running software updates and none of the other accounts have admin rights. I'm pretty sure that a permission repair can not be correctly done if you try to repair while the device is mounted, hence boot from the install CD and run permissions from there. That's how I optimized the drive (defrag) when I was running OS 7.2 all the way to 8.6.,(we won't even bring up OS 9, LOL) start the machine from my Symantec CD and repair and optimize from it then restart. So do I need to let the OS boot all the way into one of the partitions to "complete the install" and "finish the update process" or will it be perfectly ok if it stops at the Login pane?

  • Access proxy from terminal using proxy auto-config

    I know about using ntlmaps to wrapper my proxy configurations e get access from Terminal, iTerm2, &c exporting http_proxy variable and others. But I don't want go on using this approach because it simply ***** (forgive me for this word...) for a lot of issues.
    I would like simply setup my proxy environment on Network Preferences/Advanced/Automatic Proxy Configuration: (host: http://myproxy/proxy.pac) and using this setup for a whole system, including my terminals. Therefore, are there any way to reach it?
    Another details, my proxy is authenticated and uses ntlm type and in browser I use internet without problems.
    Thanks a lot for any help!

    I am not quite sure what you are looking for. Mac OS X has supported auto proxy configuration since 10.6 Snow Leopard was introduced (acutally in response to a request I made ). If you open System Preferences, click on Network, then go to the Advanced settings for your network interface, in the Proxies tab there is an option called Auto Proxy Discovery. This is different to Automatic Proxy Configuration which was also available in previous versions of OS X. Automatic Proxy Configuration uses a selected PAC file (Proxy Auto Configuration file) but Auto Proxy Discovery uses the WPAD method of finding your proxy server.
    See this article for information about WPAD (Web Proxy Automatic Detection).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol
    WPAD uses either an option advertised from your DHCP server giving the address of your proxy server, or WPAD can use a standard URL based on your domain name to download a dat file containing your proxy server details.
    I have seen reports saying the the DNS method is problematic with Mac OS X but also seen reports that the DHCP method does work with this option successfully. So my suggestion is to define the DHCP option code 252 to advertise your proxy server.
    Note: Thanks to yet another request I made in the past the Mac OS X DHCP Server can be manually configured to define additional DHCP option codes including option 252. The ability to define DHCP option codes was added in Mac OS X 10.5 Server (Leopard).

  • MDT 2012 Update 1 - Deployment - Auto Login won't Disable

    Hello,
    I am using MDT 2012 Update 1 with an almost vanilla Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 test box. I can deploy both images fine and get a success on my summary but both machines continue to auto login to the Administrator account. To my understanding, the Auto Login
    should be shutoff via the LTIcleanup script. When I double check the script for the reg keys that are added/deleted I can confirm that this is happening but the images still continue to auto login to the admin account.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thought I would let those who are interested know. After speaking with Microsoft Premier Support they determined that you must have a password on the Administrator account. If you don't then something goofs up and causes the auto logon issues that I was
    having.

  • How can I disable auto-switching desktops?

    I've long appreciated the spaces/mission control feature of OS X. However, it seems more oriented to organizing desktops by application rather than by project.
    Like many users, I suspect, I use different desktops for different projects, each of which requires a variety of applications (finder, word docs, spreadsheets, etc). When I'm working on project 1 in desktop 1, I never want to be whisked away to desktop 2. In fact, I never want to be switched to a different desktop automatically. If I click on an application, I want it to open a new window for that application. If a new iteration of an app can't be opened (ie, Mail), I'd like it to pull Mail to me rather than send me off to it. Aren't apps supposed to come when we call, not the other way around?
    I have unchecked "...switch to a space with open windows of that application" in System Prefences, but my desktop continues to auto-switch, especially with Finder.
    In short: is there a way disable auto-switching entirely? I'd like to be able to assign windows and navigate manually without being constantly pulled away from the project I'm working on.
    Thanks for the help; I really appreciate people spending their time helping others on forums like this one.

    Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
    Isolating an issue by using another user account
    If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • HT4314 Why wont apple let you disable or unregister from gamecenter!? why?

    Why wont apple let you disable or unregister from gamecenter?! Iv done everything I can but games log into it reactivated its notifications aswell. It auto logs me back in...I want apple to let you unregister completely why not?? I have disabled all notifications from Gamecenter romoved all games listed, i deleted my email adress registered, i changed my user name...and loged out but games reactivate it, I also noticed it still keeps a record of your previous score and when reactivated relists all games on your handset again aswell.

    I feel the same way -- I would REALLY like to remove this misbegotten piece of junk completely. I would SETTLE for being able to disable it -- although there are instructions for "disabling" it, it doesn't STAY disabled. I have followed the instructions, removed my email address (although it still uses my email address as the login and won't allow me to ACTUALLY remove it), made my profile private, then signed out... And the next time the device is powered back on, the account is logged in again and insisting on trying to connect to every game I play. So I deny access, "disable" it, sign out, etc, again... ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
    When the rest of my family switched to android, I stubbornly stayed with my beloved iOS devices and my Macs, but this annoyance -- which WILL NOT go away -- almost makes me think I should reconsider. I HATE Game Center, and want it off my devices.

  • Auto login after new user registration

    Hello,
    I would like to go directly to a restricted page (add session variables for username, level, etc) after a new user is registered, without first going to the login page. Is there a way to do this? I tried adding a login user behavior to my new user registration page, but it disabled the form validation on the page. I also tried copying some of the login page code (login transactions) into the new user registration page, but that didn't work either... any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Steve
    BTW, I am not utilizing email activation

    Well I finally figured out a work around... I am sure others will run into this problem and if someone can explain it to me I would be happy. But for now this will work.
    The above code that Steve U posted works for me exactly 50% of the time. It will work every other time, why I don't know. I even changed all of my temp and session directories in php configuration, changed from php5 to php4 and still no fix.
    Here is what I did to get it to work:
    On your registration form underneath the insert transaction you copy and paste the login transaction (that you generate on a login page).
    *Change tNG_login(this is your server connection)
    *Change the POST value to match your submit button on your registration form, mine is KT_Insert1.
    *Modify the redirect trigger to go to the page you want to redirect to after registration.
    *Change the kt_login_user and kt_login_password addColumn values to match the username and password fields in your registration form, mine are email_usr and password_usr
    *comment out the kt_login_rememberme addColumn (or if you need this, modify the code to allow for it in the registration form)
    I have now successfully registered a new account and had it auto-login to the user protected area 10 times in a row now, so this should be working.
    If you want some sample code here it is:
    // Make a login transaction instance
    $loginTransaction = new tNG_login($conn_connection);
    $tNGs->addTransaction($loginTransaction);
    // Register triggers
    $loginTransaction->registerTrigger("STARTER", "Trigger_Default_Starter", 1, "POST", "KT_Insert1");
    //$loginTransaction->registerTrigger("BEFORE", "Trigger_Default_FormValidation", 10, $formValidation);
    $loginTransaction->registerTrigger("END", "Trigger_Default_Redirect", 99, "user/confirmlogin.php");
    // Add columns
    $loginTransaction->addColumn("kt_login_user", "STRING_TYPE", "POST", "email_usr");
    $loginTransaction->addColumn("kt_login_password", "STRING_TYPE", "POST", "password_usr");
    //$loginTransaction->addColumn("kt_login_rememberme", "CHECKBOX_1_0_TYPE", "POST", "kt_login_rememberme", "0");
    // End of login transaction instance

  • Enable auto login via command line

    Hi,
    I have an old Mac Mini (G4) running Leopard. My problem is that I cannot log in using Back to my Mac ( Screen Sharing ). I get as far as to the login window, but after login, the machine goes down ( crash completely ). I do not have the same problem with Intel-based Macs. I temporary solved this by activating automatic login. But after an upgrade of Leopard, the problem dissapaired - but after the last upgrade to 10.5.3 the problem is back - as the machine is in an other part of the country, and has no screen or keyboard - I was wondering if anyone can show me how to activate automatic login via the terminal, I have full access via SSH.

    In order for the "defaults write..." method to work, you will need an encrypted version of the user's password stored in /private/etc/kcpassword.
    This is automatically generated when Auto Login is set up via the standard Control Panel. If you don't have physical access, it could be copied from another machine to which you do have physical access and where the auto-logged-in user has the same password. Or it could be copied from any machine that already has the file and it contains the correct password.
    Alternately, there's some discussion of the encryption scheme used for kcpassword and theoretically, you could create the file from scratch. Check out: http://www.brock-family.org/gavin/perl/kcpassword.html

  • Server Auto Login

    Hello My Mini Sever 10.9.2 will not auto login on a re-start. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks

    For servers having auto-login of a user account is generally considered a security risk. (As cpragman also pointed out.)
    The default setting is therefore to disable this ability. You can check the setting and if you really, realy need to change it by opening System Preferences, clicking on Security & Privacy and then in the General tab unticking the 'Disable automatic login' option.
    All Apple's own server functions will work fine without you needing to be logged in, in otherwords it can happily be a file server, web server, even an Open Directory server without being logged in.
    If you really must have an active login remember to turn on the screen saver after a (short) interval and for it to require a password to be unlocked from the screen saver.
