Disable auto restarting of Rac instances.

hello guys,
we can use the SRVCTL disable command to disable a particular ASM instance or Rac database instance from clusterware to restart it manually if we are performing some maintenance activities. but in oracle 11gR2 RAC databases the databases can be either administrator managed or policy managed. again there are two policies automatic and manual. automatic with automatically restart the instances. here if we set the policy to manual the clusterware cannot restart the database instance.
1.now we have a RAC database with 5 instances and and we set the policy to manual. it means that after a system restart the clusterware cannot restart all the database instances automatically.. is this correct.
2. we can change the current policy to another policy using the SRVCTL modify database -d RAC -Y management_policy.. here the management policy can be only either automatic and manual right...
help guys..

Hi ,
Point 1 and point 2 seems to be correct for oracle 11g rel2 Databases.
srvctl -y {AUTOMATIC | MANUAL} Management policy for the database.
1*.If AUTOMATIC
(the default), then the database is automatically
restored to its previous running condition (started or
stopped) upon restart of the database host computer.
If MANUAL, then the database is never automatically
restarted upon restart of the database host computer.
A MANUAL setting does not prevent Oracle Restart
from monitoring the database while it is running and
restarting it if a failure occurs.
srvctl modify option
*2.Enables you to modify the instance configuration without removing and adding
Oracle Clusterware resources. Using modify preserves the environment in the OCR
configuration that would otherwise need to be re-entered. The configuration
description is modified in the OCR configuration, and a new Oracle Clusterware
profile is generated and registered. The change takes effect when the application is
next restarted.
Eg:
srvctl modify asm
Modify the listener used by Oracle ASM, the disk group discovery string used by
Oracle ASM, or the SPFILE used by Oracle ASM for a single-instance database or a
cluster database.
Hope it answered your queries.
Best regards,
Rafi.

  • Rconfig: converting a single instance to RAC instance

    Hi,
    I am trying to use the "rconfig" utility to convert a single instance to a RAC instance in an existing RAC cluster.
    I have modified the .xml file, and am trying to run the conversion from the 1st node in the 2 node cluster (where the single instance resides).
    The only error message i seem to be getting is below:
    <Response>
    <Result code="1" >
    Operation Failed
    </Result>
    <ErrorDetails>
    ORCL_DATA_ORCLCLN The specified diskgroup is not mounted.
    </ErrorDetails>
    </Response>
    </Convert>
    </ConvertToRAC></RConfig>
    Now I dont really understand why I would be getting that message as the instance is up and running and ASM disk group is mounted on node1 at the time i run the rconfig command, though its not clear to me if I also need to somehow mount the ASM disk group on the second node prior to running the rconfig command??
    node1:
    bash-3.00$ asmcmd -p
    ASMCMD [+] > lsdg
    State Type Rebal Unbal Sector Block AU Total_MB Free_MB Req_mir_free_MB Usable_file_MB Offline_disks Name
    MOUNTED EXTERN N N 512 4096 1048576 10181 7442 0 7442 0 ORCL_DATA_ORCLCLN/
    node2:
    ASMCMD [+] > lsdg
    State Type Rebal Unbal Sector Block AU Total_MB Free_MB Req_mir_free_MB Usable_file_MB Offline_disks Name
    I have attached the output of the alert log during the rconfig conversion of the target database, but it all looks pretty standard to me (keep in mind i am an oracle novice!).

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Ok,
    So I managed to get the disk group mounted on the second node, and re-ran the rconfig process.
    I got a little further, but encountered another error which is displayed below:
    -bash-3.00$ rconfig racconv.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <RConfig>
    <ConvertToRAC>
    <Convert>
    <Response>
    <Result code="1" >
    Operation Failed
    </Result>
    <ErrorDetails>
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs Data File is not shared across all nodes in the cluster
    </ErrorDetails>
    </Response>
    </Convert>
    </ConvertToRAC></RConfig>
    I am not using a shared oracle home, each node in the cluster has its own oracle installation residing on local disk. Is a shared oracle home a pre-requisite for usin rconfig?
    I have provided the .xml file I am using below:

  • How can I disable auto-switching desktops?

    I've long appreciated the spaces/mission control feature of OS X. However, it seems more oriented to organizing desktops by application rather than by project.
    Like many users, I suspect, I use different desktops for different projects, each of which requires a variety of applications (finder, word docs, spreadsheets, etc). When I'm working on project 1 in desktop 1, I never want to be whisked away to desktop 2. In fact, I never want to be switched to a different desktop automatically. If I click on an application, I want it to open a new window for that application. If a new iteration of an app can't be opened (ie, Mail), I'd like it to pull Mail to me rather than send me off to it. Aren't apps supposed to come when we call, not the other way around?
    I have unchecked "...switch to a space with open windows of that application" in System Prefences, but my desktop continues to auto-switch, especially with Finder.
    In short: is there a way disable auto-switching entirely? I'd like to be able to assign windows and navigate manually without being constantly pulled away from the project I'm working on.
    Thanks for the help; I really appreciate people spending their time helping others on forums like this one.

    Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
    Isolating an issue by using another user account
    If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Disabling auto-update doesn't work

    I need to stop at Firefox 14 for now, and need to prevent auto-updates.
    In Firefox 14.0.1 when I disable auto-update by setting 'never check for updates', and/or use about:config to clear 'app.update.url', both settings are ignored. When I close and re-open Firefox, auto-update is again enabled, and the update URL is again set.
    Recommendations?

    As it turns out, it's not a matter of 'preferences not being saved'.
    It's Firefox spontaneously changing my preferences at start-time.
    I've been testing; here's what i discover.
    1. I install FF14, start it the first time, and disable auto-update (via Tools/Options/Advanced)
    At this point - prefs.js in my profile now starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    2. now I exit FF.
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    3. i restart FF (#1)
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    4. i close FF
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    5. I restart FF (#2)
    NOW prefs.js has dropped those 2 initial lines, and starts with user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.addon-........etc
    Firefox is spontaneously changing my prefs.js.
    Before this series of tests I adjusted the prefs.js in all other profiles in this XPSP3 machine to start with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    This is obnoxious.
    I expect better from Mozilla.

    Hi,
    I enable NetworkManager at system boot.

    After I stop NetworkManager manually, and run chromium/firefox, it restart NetworkManager again.
    # systemctl stop NetworkManager
    > Active: inactive (dead) since Fri, 12 Oct 2012 12:37:51 +0800; 24min ago
    $ chromium
    ! NetworkManager auto restarted.
    # sysetmctl status NetworkManager
    > Active: active (running) since Fri, 12 Oct 2012 12:44:13 +0800; 17min ago
    After a little dig by myself, I found out the restart was called by D-Bus.
    $ journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=dbus.service -f

    So, my problem is, How can I stop NetworkManager permanently?, so that I can use both netcfg and NetworkManager side by side, but I don't want to disable NetworkManager at system boot.

    If you want to disable NetworkManager auto-restart feature, follow bellow
    # cp /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service /etc/systemd/system
    # vi /etc/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service
    #Alias=dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service # comment it.
    # rm /etc/systemd/system/dbus-org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.service
    Thanks for the helping.

  • PSWATCHSRV does not auto-restart causing app server domain instability

    Current environment:
    - Solaris 10
    - Oracle 10.2.0.4
    - PS HRCS 9.0
    - PTools 8.49.19
    - Weblogic 9.2
    - Tuxedo 9.1
    We have two PIA web sites that reside on the same PIA web domain. They each interact with a different app server domain residing on csapp81. One is assigned a jolt listening port of 9060 (CS90SBX) and the other uses 9030 (CS90UNT). Recently, after patching the PTools to 8.49.19, we discovered that occasionally the PSWATCHSRV in one of the app server domains will shut down and not restart. The domain continues to run without the WATCHSRV but then erratic behavior in the PIA is observed:
    - Users attempting to access worklists are logged off
    - Reports stop posting from PSNT and PSUNX
    - Users attempting to navigate to reports already posted are logged off with "An Error Has Occurred" message
    - Some users are unable to log in and see a message in red on the signon page: bea.jolt.ServiceException
    Re-booting the app server domain will solve the problem temporarily until the PSWATCHSRV shuts down again. We have noticed that in the app server that is not affected, the PSWATCHSRV restarts one second after shutting down whereas in the affected domain it never auto-restarts. We have tried re-building the web server and app server domains but this does not affect the problem. There appears to be no difference between the two domains. In fact a couple of weeks earlier SBX was working fine and UNT was affected. Now it's the exact opposite and we have another environment (CFG) showing the same behavior.
    The proof the problem exists:
    Verified the issue by the application server log file <APPSRV_0602_SBX.LOG>, which displays that PSWATCHSRV has been shutdown and never restarted:
    PSAPPSRV.11610 (3) [06/02/09 12:48:40 GetCertificate](3) Returning context. My question is: Has anyone else ever seen this behavior in an 8.49.19 environment? If so, how was it resolved?
    We are now conducting UAT and the occasional disruption of having to restart the app server just so people can login to the system is not making a good impression on the customer.
    We have an open SR ticket with Support but as yet they have not been able to help us...

    Looks like Tuxedo is not doing he's job. You should double check the Tuxedo version and rolling patch installed.
    And also the configuration of AppServer, section "PSWATCHSRV", if the interval is set to 0, then it is disabled.
    Moreover, from your output it is difficult to understand what's going wrong.
    Nicolas.

  • Cannot disable Auto Tone on import of PSD files - ruins edits !!

    Hi -  I am a LR 5  expert and we have an issue with the latest release that I need to overcome or it is unusable.    Please direct this to an expert level support person as I have already networked around and have not been able to resolve this issue.    The issue is consistent with other users as well - we have tried this on several computers and the result is the same.     It is possible that is pilot error but I doubt it - we have disabled apply auto tone everywhere we could find it...
    I believe this is a serious bug in the way LR handles files on import  - and I am also hoping there is an immediate work-around as the issue has TRIPLED our workflow time.
    Example #1   -   Edit DNG - Export as PSD with "add to catalog" checked -  LR exports the file and then imports the PSD,   but in doing so applies auto tone and destroys all the edits.  The re-imported images are too bright and too contrasty.       Auto tone on import IS disabled.
    We tried to work around the issue by trying to edit outside LR and re-importing but that does not work either -SAME RESULT !
    Example #2 -   Edit DNG files,  export to PSD,  do not check "add to catalog"  -  make the edits needed in Photoshop,  then  import using "add" and LR applies Auto Tone once again destroying all edits.      You can actually watch the auto tone being applied to the thumbs as it imports them. - they get brighter.
    In all cases the edited images end up too bright and too contrasty and are otherwise unusable.        Our workaround is to export to PSD, edit in photoshop,  then use Photoshop's   scripts to produce the final images and leave the PSD files out of the catalog  - this has added a TON of time to our workflow and has corrupted our file management -  UNACCEPTABLE !!
    We have also tried reading the external  meta data option - same result - bright files.
    Please let us know how we completely disable auto tone on import and fix this issue it is a deal breaker for using this version.   We are using LR 5.6
    Thanks, Mark
    Head Janitor,  6IXGUN.COM

    Looks like we solved our own problem -   either edit or delete the preferences  files  and restart lightroom.  If you delete it,  it  will of course wipe our your template settings, etc  but that was far less of a hassle than not being able to use LR with PSD / exporting.  We were able to make a simple edit and it was fixed.   Also make sure you have unchecked "apply auto tone" in the >preferences>presets   dialog box - we did not have it checked but it WAS enabled in the plist file.       I would definitely consider this a bug -  the issue was not present in the last version of LR, it was introduced upon installing 5.6.

  • Disable Auto-Mounting

    Hi Everyone,
    I have been searching forum after forum trying to find an answer to my question but am not having any luck. I have found one option but there has to be a better way. As I am taking a Computer Forensics major I need to disable auto-mounting of USB drives so I can manually mount the device with read-only options so I do not destroy evidence on drive I need to investigate.
    About 3 versions ago in Ubuntu I was able to just uncheck a box in the system settings so it would not auto-mount. Then they decided to get rid of that option because it was not compatible with changes they made to other parts of the system. So to get around the auto-mounting I found that I could shutdown hal, plug the drive in, issue my mount command, then finally restart hal so network manager and other services that needed it could run right. This seems kind of pointless to have to shut down hal and break things just so I can mount a drive. Since I recently left Ubuntu behind and converted to Arch I thought I would see if you guys had any ideas.
    I know I can add options to fstab but since I will get a different drive for every investigation this doesn't seem to be an option either.
    Any help you guys could offer would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Timn

    It is probably your window manager that does the auto-mounting, not arch. If it's gnome, there is a key in the gconf "/apps/nautilus/preferences/media_autorun" which you would need to disable. I do use FluxBox as a WM which does not do any mounting. These are the only window managers for which I can provide specific inforamtion. But no matte what you use, KDE, XFCE or something else, there should be a configuration that allows you to disable it.
    If that didn't help, please provide more specific information about your setup.

  • Cleint tnsnames.ora  for connecting to RAC instance

    Dear all,
    DB:10.2.0.1
    o/s:redhat 5.6
    2node rac cluster
    I am getting ERROR: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred when trying to connect to rac instance.the timeout frequency is very less once in 10 times.
    cleint tnsname.ora
    RACTEST =

    (FAILOVER= TRUE)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = RACTEST)
    Regards

    Try to connect straight to the nodes. One node at the time. You can add new tnsnames entries for all RAC nodes so you can connect only one node not the whole RAC.
    example:
    RACTEST1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.25)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = dedicated)
    (SERVICE_NAME = RACTEST)
    (INSTANCE_NAME = RACTEST1)
    RACTEST2 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.2.27)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = dedicated)
    (SERVICE_NAME = RACTEST)
    (INSTANCE_NAME = RACTEST2)
    If both nodes are working then problem is probably in network / firewall.
    Usually this kind of problems comes because one node's database instance is somehow broken. And if that is the problem correction is restart failing instance.

  • E61 - Problem: Auto restart when Ad-Hoc Disconnect...

    Hi,
    I use E61. I connect internet with E61 by Ad-Hoc connection with my Laptop. When I disconnect the Ad-Hoc connection, My E61 auto restart. I don't know why. I tried many times.
    E61
    firmware: 2.0618.06.05
    Thanks.

    I usually connect to a router (infrastructure) but yesterday I connected to an ad hoc network and when I disconnected the E61 crashed and rebooted.
    The WLAN features on the E61 need to be improved by Nokia as there are a number of problems:
    1. crashes when disconnecting from ad hoc networks.
    2. will only work with many routers when power saving is disabled on the phone and then the battery life is very short.
    3. cannot connect to some secure wireless networks because EAP-TTLS-PAP is not supported.
    4. the error message 'WPA Authentication Failure' appears randomly when you try to connect then a few seconds later it will connect without any change in settings.
    The power saving would be a real problem with VoIP, but VoIP does not work with most providers!

    As said if TAF is configured only SELECT queries will be failed over to other instance. If it is DDL then it success will depend on the parameter such as IMMEDIATE/TRANSNATIONAL  supplied with SHUTDOWN command.

    Hi Radu,
    I write python scripts for getting server status and scripys is:
    nmConnect(username='weblogic',password='welcome1',domainName='oam_domain')
    #,host='acldlu01oam.corp.vha.com')
    #nmConnect('weblogic','welcome1','acldlu01oam.corp.vha.com','5556','oam_domain','/u01/oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/oam_domain','ssl')
    print "NodeManager connected.."
    print " Admin Server is : "
    nmServerStatus(serverName='AdminServer')
    print " OAM Server is : "
    nmServerStatus('oam_server1')
    print "End of script"
    but output we get:-
