Disable "Play"-button to open iTunes

Hi,
I want to disable (or reassign) the "Play"-button on the keyboard (Macbook Pro) and the middle button on the headphones to stop them from opening iTunes. Either by just disabling the buttons from opening iTunes or to reassign them to open Spotify instead.
The media keys on the keyboard (play, forward, back) all work in Spotify as long as the application is running, if it's not the play button opens iTunes.
The headphones middle button however opens iTunes even if Spotify is running.
I've seen that there are a few scripts and hacks out there but none of these seems to work in Mavericks.
Any ideas on how to fix this in Mavericks?

Pigeon, you may access your button inside RDH_mc from your main timeline using dot syntax, so, instead of adding the eventListener to your close_btn on your RDH_mc timeline, try doing this in your main timeline instead:
RDH_mc.close_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onExit); //this will access close_btn inside RDH_mc.
function onExit(e:MouseEvent):void {
     removeChild(RDH_mc);
Doing so you can get rid of that listener you're adding to RDH_mc directly.
Hope it works!
edit: oh, also, inside your openEvent1 function you have to addChild(RDH_mc) first and than play it.
Note that inside your onClose function you're removing it but it seems you're not adding it anymore. That's probably why your button will work only once. The second time you try it, it's actually "playing" your movieClip, but you can't see it because it's not on the displaylist anymore (you removed it the first time you pressed the close button).

  • Won't let me play songs or open iTunes Store

Whenever I open iTunes, it opens fine but then when I try to click on a song or go to the iTunes Store, an error message pops up and says iTunes has stopped working. Then no matter what I do next, iTunes shuts down. I've tried reinstalling it but nothing changed.

I'm having the same problem. I had an earthlink account ages ago, and made my first purchases with this account. Now I can't play any of the music I purchased with that old account - according to my last iPod update, that's 86 songs, and I really don't want to type in my new authorization info 86 times.
My earthlink account has been dead for years. This issue just showed up. I think it may be related to the iTunes 7.x upgrade.
Can someone please tell us how to tell iTunes to authorize all purchases made with an old account? Requiring us to re-authorize one song at a time is amateur. I expect more from Apple.

  • Can I disable the button that opens my DVD Drive?

The button on my dvd drive is so sensitive that it's hard to touch the side of my T510 withou accidentally opening the drive. VERRRy annoying.
I'm loking for a way to disable the manual button.
Is there a solution for this?

I wrote LockCD application after giving up on finding a properly functioning software that would lock the CD ROM eject button which i hit quite frequently on my Lenovo T520 laptop. The main problem with the software found over the internet was that it wouldn't retain the lock state after Sleep/Resume. I made it freely available at http://sourceforge.net/p/lockcd/wiki/Home/

  • Missing start button, task bar and min,max buttons when open iTunes

Its like the screen is cut off on the top and bottom.  I use windows 7 but this doesn't happen when I have any other program open.  How do I fix?

Could you post a screenshot of your iTunes display, please?
Launch iTunes. Hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Using "back" button breaks sample "play" buttons

In iTunes 10.2.2 Mac, the sample "play" buttons in the iTunes Store stop working if you hit the "back" button to return to previous pages (unless you force them to reload).
Is there a simple way to submit a minor bug report like this, when I otherwise do not really need specific help or a response?

It seems that in IE9 if you switch to compatibility mode, the problem goes away. Switch back it reappears.
I have a website about to be released that has this problem throughout. Please let me know if there is a solution.
    Thanks,

  • Link to App Store opens iTunes

I find an App that I would like to purchase. The Safari page for the App opens that says Mac App Store Preview. There is a button on that page that says View in Mac App Store. When I press this button, it opens iTunes instead and says that can not be purchased in the US (or something like that). If I manually go to the App Store and search on the application, I can easily find it and purchase it. This has happened with multiple apps. How do I get the link in Safari to open the App Store instead of iTunes?

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • ITunes missing pause/play/ / buttons

For the past month (I believe sometime around the time I updated itunes to iTunes 11) I have been missing the section on my iTunes window that has the pause, play, >>, and << buttons and shows the status of the song (time wise).  I am also missing the red, yellow, and green buttons on the upper left hand side and I am unable to click and drag the window around at all.  I have googled this problem for hours and come up with nothing.  Hoping someone here can help because for a long time the only way to stop a song from playing once it started was the quit iTunes.  Now, just today I figured out that I can open the miniplayer on top of my iTunes window and that is better than having to close out of iTunes altogether, but I'd still like the features that are in the miniplayer to be available to me on my screen all the time like they always were in the past.

    Hello 3isenuf,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I'd like you to please reinstall iTunes by following the steps below.
    Download the latest installer
Open Safari or another web browser.
Go to the iTunes download webpage and click the Free Download button.
Make sure that the Mac OS X version is selected on that page.
Click the Download button to start the download.
Once the file is downloaded, a new Finder window appears containing two items (below). If a Finder window doesn't appear, locate the iTunesX.dmg file (where X is the iTunes version number) on the desktop (or wherever your downloads go) and double-click it to display these items:
A "Read Before You Install iTunes" file. This document contains the system requirements for the version of iTunes, and may contain other useful information about installing.
An iTunes.mpkg file (this is the installer file itself)
    Install iTunes
Quit iTunes if it is currently open.
Double-click the iTunes.mpkg file. This opens the Installer application in Mac OS X.
Follow the instructions in the installer screens. If all of the installation components appear unchecked and dimmed (unavailable, and therefore not installable), refer to Mac OS X iTunes installer components are disabled.
After the installation has completed, quit the Installer and restart the computer. The new version of iTunes appears on your hard disk in your Applications folder.
    Opening iTunes
It's possible that clicking the iTunes icon in your Dock or double-clicking an iTunes icon on your desktop could open an older version of iTunes. Open iTunes from the Applications folder to be sure you are opening the right version:
    Double-click your hard disk.
    Double-click the Applications folder.
    Double-click the iTunes icon.
If you notice another copy of iTunes in the Dock after following these steps, here's a way to take care of that:
    Quit iTunes.
Drag the iTunes icon out of the Dock.
Drag the iTunes icon from the Applications folder to the Dock.

  • Itunes 6.0.1 is unminimizing when I push the play button on my keyboard.?

I can't stop itunes from unminimizing when I press the play/pause button on my INTERNET KEYBOARD PRO. In all the past versions of itunes, it would stay minimized when I'd tell it to pause and that's what I wanted, but 601's popping up on the screen every time I press that button and it's very annoying to have to keep minimizing the app every time I press that button. (I press it a lot)
Is anyone else getting that problem or know of a way to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

*For Snow leopard users*: Ok i didnt find an answer for this problem, but i tried to work my way around(for people who wants to watch videos on VLC and pause it with the apple remote/keyboard and itunes keep opening)
*option 1*: open itunes and let it run but click on itunes store and hide itunes or minimize it. continue with watching videos on VLC and music won't play.
*option 2*: Use Front Row to watch all your videos. To do so install PERIAN for quicktime(which allows you to play all formats in quicktime) and put all your movies in your "movies" folder. Enjoy watching movies through front row.
*option 3*:(this one worked partially. ) Rename itunes in applications folder to "itunes_off". In order to do this you might need to make your user privileges to" read and write". right click on itunes and click on "get info" then go in privileges and click on little lock icon, enter your password and then change your user setting to "read and write". After this rename itunes to something else. But this solution didnt work correctly for me. it stopped opening itunes for a while but when i restarted my mac it started opening it again. Try if this works for anybody. And keep me posted.

  • Play button not working in iTunes for music

Ok, so I've got a new PC (Windows 8.1 and latest version of iTunes running) and have transferred my whole iTunes library across. Transfer (about 1 week ago) went smoothly and all media played back fine, including music.
I've opened up iTunes today and my albums wont play back using a) double clicking on the album, b) right clicking and selecting play or c) the play button once the album expands - these methods all worked just 2 days ago which was the last time I used iTunes. The tracks will play if I drag and drop the album/tracks into the play bar at the top but they don't start automatically, I have to click the play button at the top. They will also play if I select all the tracks in an album and press return.
I can add individual tracks to the current playlist and they will play when their turn comes but trying to add the whole album doesn't work, it just doesn't appear in the 'next up' list.
So it's not a matter of iTunes not locating the files, they're all in the correct file location and are matching up. Other media; TV, film & podcasts all work fine. Another oddity is that iTunes works perfectly (methods a), b) and c) above) for the other user account on the same PC i.e. non of the problems experience in my account.
Hopefully I've explained the problem ok but if not ask away. Has anybody come across this before and any solutions recommended?
    Thanks

I have excatly the same issue.  i have tried everything.  It started when i updated to version 10 of itunes.
    Sorry i cannot help.  TIm

  • Satellite E100-004 - Can I disable media buttons like mute, play pause

My laptop is the Toshiba Satellite E100-004.
is there a way do disable The multimedia Touch Panel (Media Buttons on top of keyboard - mute-media-play/pause-stop-rewind-forward-) ?
    thanx

    Hello
Please don't be mad on my but I don't understand your question. These buttons are by default set to run with preinstalled Windows media player. If you don't like them simply don't touch them.
I just know that you can change settings for browser and multimedia button and define which application should be open with these buttons.
Anyway such option is not known to me.
Why you want to disable these buttons?

  • Play/Pause Hot Key Opening iTunes - What's Happening?

I believe most are aware of this problem, where you press the play/pause button at the top of your keyboard and it pointlessly opens iTunes (even if Spotify is open).
I am aware of the work arounds. But are Apple going to do anything about this or is this meant to be a feature?

Have you provided feedback to Apple on how you think it should work at http://www.apple.com/feedback/?
If not they probably won't change it. These are user-to-user forums and Apple doesn't review them for feature requests.

  • TS1717 Everytime i open Itunes in windows 7 despite me specifying maximised it opens in window that is always too large for the screen. EVen windowing the frame and then remaximiseing puts the buttons outside the edge of the screen

Every time i open Itunes it starts in a window that is too large for the screen (despite me setting "start maximised" in the launch options). Then hitting the "maximise" button expands the window slightly pushing all the buttons and edge of the frame out of the screen and behind the taskbar at the bottom. I have to move the window to a place where i can resize it smaller than the screen then and only then does maximising the window fit it properly to the screen.

Okay, I just opened up Itunes this evening and it's not working again! Sheeshy Peetz!
HOWEVER, this time I followed some different steps and got it working.
    (1) Uninstall Quicktime
    (2) Uninstall Itunes
    (3) Re-download Both
    (4) Install Quicktime First!  (Read #6 below first though)
    (5) Install Itunes Next!  (Read #6 below first though)
    (6) Here is the CAVEAT for me:  I have an SSD as my C:\Drive, which is where I originally installed both of them.   So this time, I installed both Quicktime and Itunes to a Non-SSD drive, which was one of my SATA Drives.
    (7) Start Itunes and Test your Movies now.  For me I was able to play them finally.  Who knows how long this will last lol.
    Maybe this work for someone.

  • My itune library will not let me play any songs. I click the play button and it won't start the song.

Everytime i open itunes, it says that the songs cannot be played for some reason. I click the play button and it won't play a song.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting your device, but it can cure some glitches.

  • How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

    Dear Helpful Open Source people.
I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?
The button is shown in section 3 of "Open a Link in a New Tab" in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-tabs-firefox-android
PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.
