Disable track pad rotate??

Is it possible to disable the tackpad two finger "rotate?" I was told in the Apple store that I could slow it down by changing the preferences for scrolling, but I don't want to slow down scrolling. I find the two finger twist unprecise and it screws up a lot of my image work, especially when I hadn't planned to rotate in the first place! Is there an update software fix in the works? I'm desparate. I have been using Macs ever since the 2E, but never have found such an anomaly. Other than the rotate snafu, my Macbook Pro is the most wonderful Mac I have ever owned.

At the moment I am not on my MBP I am using a PowerBook G4 with 10.4.11 so I can't be as precise from memory. Did you go into the System Preferences >> Keyboard & Mouse/Trackpad settings? I know you can disable some of the trackpad settings.

  • Is there a way to disable track pad from moving faders?

The track pad is great for mousing around, zooming in, zooming out.
It's not great for making destructive mix commands.
    Actually ******* horrible for it.
Any way to work around this without like, buying an external mouse?

    Hi Everyone,
To give an update on the situation: I disabled the Yahoo account and it seems to make a VERY NOTICEABLE difference in battery life - prior to this my battery would drain quite rapidly but since disabling it it's only lost about 15-20% over the past 24 hours (and thats with using the video/music/internet functions for about an hour and a half).. Prior to this it would have been close to drained under the same circumstances.
Also, to confirm, the "Your last transaction cost 0.00" messages only appear when accessing the internet manually now. before they appeared every 10-15 minutes with no interaction from myself at all (while it was sitting idle, while watching videos, while charging, while in my pocket, etc..)
I do have it set to only check Manually but Yahoo would seem to check on it's own even though this setting is checked (I'm guessing it has to do with the Push setting). Aside from draining the battery, it was quite annoying having 30 or so "Your transaction cost $0.00" messages to click through whenever I turned on the phone.
I did have the screen set to shut off after 1 min, but the 'your transaction cost..' messages would first wake the iphone up, the screen would stay bright for about 30 seconds, dim for about 30 seconds, then turn on bright again for 1 minute until it shut off. I'm guessing the screen (being on for about 10-15 minutes per hour due to this) and the fact that yahoo accesses the internet on such a frequent basis are what cut the battery life down.
I really wish I could make Yahoo work more like Gmail and have it manually search for new mail

  • Disable track pad/mouse?

I have one of the first gen macbooks. It has probably 100K miles plus on it. Needless to say it's seen better days. The track pad/enter bar is not working properly. It works fine with an external mouse. i would like to disable the track pad and the enter pad. Is there a way to do this with preferences?
    Thanx

In Universal Access preferences click on the Mouse and Trackpad tab. There are a couple of checkboxes near the bottom to disable the trackpad when using a mouse. If you don't find it there then the option should be either in Mouse or Trackpad preferences.

  • Microsoft Arch Mouse disables track pad

Windows 7 is soooo stupid it can't recognize multi finger gestures, so I had to plug my mouse in. Bad idea. It's so stupid ( of course only Microsoft could make a product this horrible) it needs a driver of it's own and whenever I unplug the USB it disables my track pad. I went into bootcamp settings and the track pad tab is gone, in control panel it says every things fine. How do I get the track pad back?!
Oh, and I'm not asking this on micro craps site because the morons there like to give false info all the time

    All set.
    Thanks anyways.

  • Disable track pad with SL

I just upgraded to snow leopard. Before the upgrade, I could disable the track pad when I used my mouse. This option doesn't exist in system preferences.
Its annoying that every time I touch the pad (even after ticking the box for ignoring accidental) it respond when I don't want it on at all.
Any one know what to do to disable?

  • Disable Charms Bar when using track pad on laptop?

Is there a way to disable the Charms Bar from coming up AT ALL when making ANY type of motions, gestures, etc on a laptop track pad?
My sister has a laptop with windows 8 and some random gestures she'll make (they're very generic movements) brings up the Charms bar and interrupts her work, which is imperative that it DOES NOT.
I have tried software and creating registry keys. But that has only disabled Charms when moving to the right hand side of the screen.
Charms is the only issue. If I can disable it, she won't have to dish out $100 more for Windows 7.
Is there anyway to disable it permanently from being activated with the track pad? I know it can be accessed with the Windows key + another key.
But this Charms is very intrusive, disruptive and interruptive to her work.

Is there a way to disable the Charms Bar from coming up AT ALL when making ANY type of motions, gestures, etc on a laptop track pad?
Turn off all Touch screen emulation features to make the touchpad emulate only a mouse.  Then the Charms bar can only appear when the mouse pointer is in either the top or bottom corner on the right.  Alternatively get a real mouse and disable
the Touchpad completely, enabling it only when desiring to experiment with Touch screen emulation features.

  • Is it possible to disable the track pad while typing?

Is it possible to disable the track pad while typing?

I don't believe there is a way to do it natively.
However there is an app called BetterTouchTool which enables you to fully customize the trackpad. You could increase the sensitivities so that it doesn't activate while your typing.
    Hope this helps.

  • Track pad disabled. how to start computer now

My track pad was damaged so the tech at Apple Store disabled it.  I went and purchased an Apple bluetooth mouse to use instead.  But when I turned my computer on, the screen is white and the fan is running nonstop.  What to do?  Not even able to attempt to use mouse.

It seems there is a bigger issue than just the TrackPad not working... You need to take it to the apple store where a tech can look at the internals

  • Anyone know how to disable a track pad?

I and several others have problems with erratic track pad behavior, and the posts I've seen over the past couple of months haven't gotten any effective replies.
The cursor behavior is the same as if you were using a mouse and the left button sticks on; you can jiggle it off with an amount of effort that's unacceptable for routine use and it usually sticks again immediately. If I plug in a mouse, the same problems remain, which I interpret as meaning that the trackpad malfunction keeps the cursor control in the "left-button-on" state and the mouse input is just an additional signal.
Others who have reported similar trackpad problems also say their problems continue when using mice or external trackpads. I'm 99% sure that if communication between trackpad and processor is shut off, the mouse will control the cursor normally.
I don't see anything in the System Preferences to do this, can it be done from the Console?

That would imply that there are human-based reasons for the constant relocation of setting controls from version to version of applications and operating systems. It would be satisfying to believe this, just as it used to be nice to anticipate Santa's presents and Easter eggs. This does not seem consistent with these bizarre alterations in Apple software, however, and if you look at the revision patterns for software from a certain firm in the state of Washington, you will see that human decision making processes cannot explain the patterns for the extremely large number of "snipe hunt" events reported by users. One disturbing hypothesis is that the code modifying entities may have entered from an adjacent multidimensional universe and are slipping up by assuming that we can see links in orthogonal space. It goes without saying that I have a bad feeling about this. Where's the Doctor? We may need him.

  • Spotlight starts indexing after every restart and there is a scrolling delay with both mouse and track pad.

I had to restart my MBP three time, two after it crashed. Every time Spotlight starts to index the content on my Mac
which takes two hour. Then there is a delay when I start scrolling, both with the mouse and with the track pad.
I also notised that after changing the icons with Candybar they still appear unchanged in Launchpad, which makes
it confusing. Launchpad isn't consitent when putting the apps in aphabetic order, but jumble up some of the apps.
i don't get back the wab sites after restart as i was to believe I would.
As Jobs sez; And more thing.
Well one more might OK, there are more bugs then that, but I to tired to tell them all.
I have never found so many bug in such a short time (only in two hours with Lion now) with any other OS and I have worked with Macs since -91.
    God help us.

    Hi, me again, more data.
I have found that some plugins are accessing the internet without my permission.
And when I went into the plug in menu via the addons options through the Tool Menu option, I found the plug ins there.
BUT I never installed those plugins, and now they are there and they are accessing the Internet. Here are two images to show the plug ins disabled and yet another image showing them still accessing the Internet even when disabled.
I then removed them from the system (I did back them up first, just in case).

  • Magic Track Pad won't click

I just got a Mac Mini.... connected by Magic Track Pad... all features work except "click"..... any ideas?

I had the same problem.  I attached an old USB mouse to get through the initial setup.
Under System Preferences --> Trackpad there are three lists of gestures and a check box by each to allow or disallow.  The single click on mine was not selected.
One other gotcha.  Under the "Point and Click" tab there is the "Three Finger Drag".  Under "Other Gestures" there is "Mission Control" which should be swipe up with four fingers.  There is an option to make it swipe up with three fingers.  If you change it to three, it will disable the Three Finger Drag.
I'm having trouble getting the four finger Mission Control gesture to work but otherwise the track pad works beautifully.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Why can't I use my MagicMouse and my track pad on my MacBook Pro 17" simultaneously?

I bought my son a new MacBook Pro and I now have his older one (2008).  It still works like it was brand new but I found out, as I was personalizing it that the Magic Mouse and track pad won't work simultaneously.  It's either one or the other.  I have a 15" MacBook Pro about the same age and I can use them both together.  Is there a setting somewhere within the system preferences?
