Disabled feature: member template classes

According to the FAQ http://wwws.sun.com/software/sundev/suncc/faqs/cpp.html#3q2
Q. What standard library functionality is missing from libCstd?
A. The standard library was originally (in C++ 5.0) built without support for features which required member template and partial specialization in the compiler. Although these features have been available since C++ 5.1, they cannot be turned on in the standard library because they would compromise backward compatibility.
Backward compatibility is a nice thing, but wouldn't it be a better strategy to be by default
standard compliant, and tell the user to #define SUN_CC_NO_PARTIAL_SPECIALIZATION 1
if the user has the need for backward compatibility.
Andreas

I have to come back to this problem. This member templates disabling makes that
template <class Comp>
std::list<T::sort(Comp)
is not defined. When I had a look at the source code of the Sun STL I saw that you
nevetheless offer a version of sort where one can supply a function pointer to do
the comparison of two items in the list.
1. Wouldn't it make sens to document that, so that when one wants to sort at
least one knows about aq workaround?
2. Also can you explain me, what binary compatibility would break if this particular
function was enabled. It can't be there, and I have the impression that you switched
off too much, that is there will be some functions that really MUST be disabled,
whereas others don't do harm, but there is no preprocessor switch to distinguish
between them.
Best regards,
Andreas

  • Disabled Features

    I am trying to install a new printer that I bought last year (because it matches the 3 other printeres I have). I just recently tried to download the drivers from the disk that came with the printer. I realize that the drivers needed to be updated, so I downloaded the drivers from HP website for my HP Officejet Pro 8600.
    Issue 1. I keep getting a message during the download that states "Disabled Features- an adminstrator has disabled some features of the selected device. For more information, check with an adminstrator o rconsult the device documentation."
    Issue 2. After finishing the install, and attempting to print, I get blank spacing where words should be printed, intermittently throughout the whole document.
    Question- Is this caused by the "disabled feature" warning? If so, how do I correct it? If not caused by the "Disabled Features" warning, how do I fix it?
    (FYI: I have uninstalled, and then reinstalled the drivers from the HP website 2x already, and attempted to reinstall from the disk that came with the printer)

    Hi there @scooter7381 ,
    Welcome to the forums!
    I would like to help with the printer and printing issues you're facing with your Officejet 8600 connected to your Mac running 10.9.
    I would like to know the following:
    At which point of the installation do you see the message "Disabled Features, an administrator has disabled some features of the selected device", during the download, before the install starts, during, or at the end, for example?
    How are you connecting the printer to your Mac (USB, Wireless, Ethernet)?
    Can you print a quality page and let me know if there was an issue with the quality of the page or if it printed? (Select Setup, Reports, Print Quality Report)
    Include any steps you have tried as well.

  • Way to enable the Webkit disabled features in non-application sandbox?

    Are there any plans to re-enable the webkit-disabled features at least for the non-application sandboxes?   For example - if you have an iframe that is hosting a pure html5 application, then it would be nice to use the html5 application cache feature, this way we do not have to write custom code to use the air/flash version of persisted storage.
    In other words: Is it in your roadmap to provide a sandbox that can run with all webkit features enabled?  Such that a pure HTML5 app can be written and deployed on the web and via air.

    Interesting question - thanks for asking it.

    Any hidden performance or memory issue here?
    Let us consider an object:
    public class SomeObject
         private String fieldA;
         private String fieldB;
         private String fieldC;
         private String fieldD;
         private String fieldE;
         //... say 50 declared fields....
         public SomeObject()
         public SomeObject(String fieldA, String fieldB)
              this.fieldA = fieldA;
              this.fieldB = fieldB;
    // getters and setters..
    }When I create an object using the constructor with only two fields initialized such as the following code above, and look at what is happening to other fields as shown in the code below, I see that they are also AVAILABLE, now this is important, but they are set to null. What I wanted to know was, if I created an object with many fields, as many as 50 (getDeclaredFields = 50), and used a constructor with only two input fields to initialize an object, I still have 48 other fields available but set as NULL's. When I create more than 100,000 of these objects in a list and send to a .jsp page, I am unable to understand if this has more memory load than when you use a list of another object which has actually has only two declared fields in it. Each of this new object will have only two declared fields, when I say getDeclaredFields() it would return 2.
    This is where I am unable to figure out if this has anything to do with performance or memory, rather, what is the difference between the many possible ways you can initialize an object when there are too many fields which you probably won't use? Either create a new constructor with only two input arguments OR a generic constructor with all fields as input arguments but all those fields which you won't use assigned NULL's OR create another new object with only two declared fields
    SomeObject someObj = new SomeObject("abcd","cdef");
              Field[] fields = someObj.getClass().getDeclaredFields();
              System.out.println("Number of available fields: " + fields.length);
              for(int i = 0 ; i < fields.length ; i++)
                   try
                        fields.setAccessible(true);
                        System.out.println("Field " + i + ", with value: " + fields[i].get(someObj));
                        fields[i].get(someObj);
                   } catch (IllegalArgumentException e)
                        e.printStackTrace();
                   } catch (IllegalAccessException e)
                        e.printStackTrace();

    Cor,
    What I am stating is this is a solution using the Web Site Project instead of a
    Web Application Project.
    Web Site projects do not require Designer.vb files, Web Application Projects add Designer.vb files in the solution.
    Background: I have been hired to support a very successful e-commerce site that was built by a 3rd party vendor (I had no input on the contract or specification, because I would have went with
    MVC).  The site works 100% correctly, however from my 2003 - 2015 experience with Visual Studio and Web Development being in Web Forms and MVC I have always built ASP.NET Solutions using the Web Application Project Templates, which compiles the code down
    to .dlls.
    A Web Site project does not compile the code, but simply uses the .vb files and they have to be migrated to the server with the .aspx files. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd547590%28v=vs.110%29.aspx
    Currently the only way I can debug this Solution is to attach to the w3wp.exe process running locally on my work station.
    The Solution is comprised of two Web Sites, which I cannot get it to compile because of the following errors -
     'webServerControlName' is not a member of '(Protected Code Behind Class Name)'  I am reaching out to the MSDN community to see if anyone has experienced this issue with
    Web Site Projects.
    I hope that clears up the Project Type question.

  • Template classes or interfaces for equipment

    Hello,
    I am creating an experiment design pattern using Labviews object orientated functions. I'd like to say I'm very happy that labview incorporated object orientation and am looking forward to them implementing additional important object orientation features such as purely virtual classes (Interfaces) that can help get around the single inheritance issues for use in design patterns.
    Anyhow my question is, does LabView currently have an object oriented template (i.e. purely dynamic VI structure) for equipment such as function generators and oscopes? I know they have a normal template with a project view, but this doesn't allow the flexibility of a java style interface.
    Secondly, if you don't currently have them, i will need to create a few anyway, and I would be keen on posting them, especially if labview had a good place to share them. An OOP labview section would be really nice.
    Greg Sonnenfeld

    >>I don't have any practical experience with
    LVOOP, so I'm not sure how much its by-value design is appropriate for
    creating instrument drivers. That said, you should have a look through
    the LAVA forums' OOP forum (it also has a code repository section you can post actual tools to). Additionally, NI has their new DevZone community area, where you can post code.
    While the pass-by value design has some draw backs, it still allows for the very valuable usage of design patterns in development.
    Consider an application that needs to use a Digital Multimeter (DMM used for simplicity). Labview currently has a standard VI template for the development of drivers for a DMM. So most vendors will implement VI's with the same VI prototype. With functions such as:
    VisaAddress initialize(VisaAddress visa);
    VisaAddress:Float getVoltage(Visa Address visa);
    Consider a software where the type of digital multimeter is not know until runtime, or the same code will be run at multiple sites on different equipment, or a program that maybe use several different types of multimeters depending on the preference of the user.
    Instead of developing our code with a specific VI library, we instead develop the DMM portion of the code using an interface ( A purely dynamic VI with no implementation or perhaps linked to a virtual device). We will call this class "DigitalMultimeterI".This code could then be run without throwning errors when no equipment attached. Furher more, it could allow for a unit test of the code to ensure functionality without needing a device.
    Case 1
    Now it would be time to link our equipment to our code. We simply find a vendor implementation (a class that inherits the interface and overides all of its dynamic VIs) of the class DigitalMultimeterI, we'll call the DigitalMultimeterVendor, and wire it to the port that accepts a DigitalMultimeterI class.  Labview recognizes to call the VI that is associated with the DigitalMultimeterVendor class where ever a DigitalMultimeter VI is placed.
    Case 2
    Consider an extension of the previous case, where two different DMM brands are being used.  During runtime, a user is given the option to choose between 2 different DMMs. If both DMMs drivers are implementation of the DigitalMultimeterInterface class, the code can uses a simple switch case statement to determine which object to pass into the experiment logic. No additional programming is needed.
    Case 3
    Consider a piece of code that may be used at multiple physical locations between many collaborators. A core skilled labview designer can create all the experiment logic using interfaces and distribute the code to multiple sites. The recipient scientists or engineers at these sites can then choose an appropriate implementation of the Equipment Interface class to fit the equipment at their laboratory with little knowledge of labview. In fact, by dynamically loading an equipment implementation object at runtime, perhaps by using a call by file path method, the recipient scientists or engineer may be able to use the code without ever having to do any programming. The would simply have to select an appropriate class file.
    We see now, that by utilizing interfaces and design pattern in our experiment logic, we have created an "agile" framework that embodies the principles of component orientation. Such design methodologies enable developers to significantly improve code re-usage, reduce development time, decrease debugging time with unit test, allow easier multiuser development and increase end user satisfaction. All of which will increase the value of the Labview software and likely reduce the work load on Labview support engineers.

  • How do I tell Apple to fix their software like apps that play sound even though the sound is turned off and not being able to disable features you hate like game center

    Apple is suppose to be the pinnacle of usability and, yet, I want to throw my new IPhone 4s as far as I can and watch is smash into a million pieces on concrete. Seriously, I've already got three things that irritate the **** out of me. First, there are Apple apps that insist on playing sound even though the sound is turned off. If I flick a switch to turn the sound off, I want the sound off!!!! Second, if I do not want a totally unnecessary feature like Game Center, I should be able to disable it. I completed most of the Angry Bird levels with 2 or 3 stars and now I have to start over from square one. Maybe, this happened when I upgraded to the 4s but it sure seemed to happen when I joined Game Center. Tomorrow, I am going to reset my 4s to factory defaults to try to get rid of my Game Center account. I don't want Game Center! I do need Game Center! I hate Game Center! Finally, I had an alarm go off to wake me up and there was a Snooze button but no button to turn the alarm off. I flicked the slider to access the main screen expecting to see something to turn the alarm off but there was nothing. The alarm just kept alarming. I had to warm boot my IPhone to shut the alarm off! Really, Apple!!!!

    The sound is turned off. Only, some Apple apps like YouTube and Siri make sound when the sound is turned off. It is very embarrassing when this happens at work. My question was how do I tell Apple to fix this?
    Turning off game center does not work. The games just prompt me to sign in when they are started.I have tried everything I can find online to stop this behavior. It is annoying and should not happen. My question was how do I tell Apple to fix this?
    The alarm went off. There was a green thing that looked like a button but pressing it did nothing. There was a red button that said snooze. I did not want to snooze. I wanted to turn the alarm off. I slid the bar to unlock the phone and there were no running apps with a button to press. The alarm just keep running. I have not had this problem since it first occurred. The alarm now shuts off when I just unlock the phone. It may have happened because I had another alarm app running. The two may have interfered with each other. I would like to tell Apple about it.
    It also annoys me that the button that closes apps leaves the phone app running. If I press on a number at 6:00 AM to get information about who called me, the phone automatically dials the person back and my natural reaction is to press on the button to close the phone app but the phone keeps dialing this person at 6:00 AM. It is a bad design. I would like to tell Apple about it.
    Finally, I looked all over Apple's site to try to find someplace I could send them a polite message to let them know that I was not happy with these "features" but could not find anything. It is extremely frustrating to have issues with a product and not being able to tell the manufacturer about it. So, you grow up!.
    When trying to fix the Game Center issue, I saw a link someone posted to report issues with the IPad to Apple. The answer I am looking for is where is the link to report issues with the IPhone.

  • Since I disabled features in the people widget, I cannot access gmail

    I was so annoyed at the people widget covering up my emails that I disabled all the features IN it instead of the whole widget (which I have since learned how to do) and now I cannot access gmail with firefox. I can with internet explorer though, but prefer to use firefox.

    -> Tap '''ALT''' key or press '''F10''' to show the Menu Bar
    -> go to Help Menu -> select '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled'''
    Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
    -> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted/Incompatible Toolbars
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History -> '''Time range to clear: select "EVERYTHING"''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies, Cache''' -> click '''Clear Now'''
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> General -> in '''Startup''' section click '''Reset to Default''' button
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Offline Storage (Cache): click '''Clear Now''' button
    -> Click OK on Options window
    -> click the Favicon on SearchBar -> click '''Manage Search Engines''' -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click '''Remove''' -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Appearance section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious/Incompatible Themes (Persona) -> Restart Firefox
    You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons and Themes later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Static import of member of class in same unnamed package fails

    I think I found a bug in the JDK 1.5 (Tiger) javac compiler. It involves static import and unnamed packages.
    Consider the following compilation unit:
    import static D.x;
    class C {
        int foo() { return x; }
    class D {
        static final int x = 1;
    }Running javac from the Tiger beta 2 SDK generates the following output:
    Test.java:1: cannot find symbol
    symbol: class D
    import static D.x;
                  ^
    Test.java:1: static import only from classes and interfaces
    import static D.x;
    ^
    Test.java:4: cannot find symbol
    symbol  : variable x
    location: class C
        int foo() { return x; }
                           ^
    3 errorsIn my opinion, this is a bug. This compilation unit should compile without errors.
    Note that the following compilation unit compiles without errors with Tiger beta 2:
    package p;
    import static p.D.x;
    class C {
        int foo() { return x; }
    class D {
        static final int x = 1;
    }Note that this issue is distinct from the issue of importing a class from an unnamed package into a named package. I totally agree that the latter is not allowed. However, the current issue is a different matter, since here I am importing members from the same package (which happens to be an unnamed package).

    The unnamed package feature is deprecated. Even if this is a bug (which I sort of doubt), this may never be fixed.

  • How to use Underline feature in Font Class

    I am making an applet to test the Bold, Italic and Underline feature of any Font but there is no such Font Constant to Underline the Text. Can you help me to get Underlined Text through Font class or any such alternative to achieve my goal?
    Thanks.

    A type of underline is the character '\u0332',
    Try for example.
    char[] chs = new char[]{(char)0x30,(char)0x0332,(char)0x41,(char)0x0332};
    str = new String(chs);

  • Touch pad disable feature

    On the HP ENVY 4 Notebook PC There is a  feature which  disables and re-enables the touchpad by tapping twice in the top left-hand corner (where there is a small grey rectangle to indicate the position to tap to tun the touchpad off and on). What is the procedure for disabling this feature? (I find I often accidentally disable the touchpad accidentally and would rather the feature was switched off)
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Open windows Control Panel and open Synaptics ( you can also access this via Mouse....Settings tab....Settings button ).  The option you need to disable is' 'Double tap to disable touchpad' - the exact location of this setting can vary depending on the Synaptics version you have and to some degree the hardware.  An example of its location in Synaptics 8.1 can be seen in the image below - just remove the highlighted check mark, click Close and then Click Apply.
