Disabled Services

Routing and Remote Access RemoteAccess Stopped Disabled Share Process c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs Normal localSystem
Unless the user has disabled the service after the service started, are there any other possible explanations as to why the service has started if it has been disabled?
TIA, Gerry

Hi,
The real svchost.exe is a legitimate Windows process that performs services for other Windows programs. It's normal to have half a dozen or more of them running at once. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list
of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. svchost always
runs under one of the three usernames SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE or NETWORK SERVICE. Running under any other username, especially yours or another user's username, is a symptom of malware.
You may capture the behavior by using Process monitor:
Process Monitor v3.05:

  • Enable/DIsable Services in RAC Database using srvctl

    Hello,
I am using Oracle Database 11g on a two node RAC. For the service management on the RAC I use srvctl and I have problems in understanding why the tool offers redundant information for some services.
To be more exact, let's say I have a two node RAC, one database called DB_NAME and one instance on each node called DB_NAME1 and DB_NAME2.
I create a service called DB_SRV using srvctl like this:
    srvctl add service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -r DB_NAME1 -a DB_NAME2
Then I run srvctl config to see service parameters like this:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
So I can see that the the service DB_SRV is enabled by default, and I want to disable the service, like this:
    srvctl disable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME1
After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
So far,it all makes sense. The service is enabled to all the instances, but disabled for DB_NAME1 so this means the the service is enabled on DB_NAME2. All ok.
But then, I want to enable the service on DB_NAME2 (although it is already enabled there) and I run:
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
After than I run srvctl config again:
    srvctl config service -d DB_NAME -s SRV_NAME
    And I get the output:
    Service name: DB_SRV
    Service is enabled
    Preferred instances: DB_NAME1
    Available instances: DB_NAME2
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
Service is disabled on instances: DB_NAME1
    So my real question is:
Why isn't oracle giving me an error when I run
    srvctl enable service -d DB_NAME -s DB_SRV -i DB_NAME2
and instead adds this line (redundant, I would say)
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
    in the srvctl config output?
    Thank you in advance!

So for me it seems redundant because if the service is enabled (this means it is enabled for every instance in the RAC), you shouldn't be able to enable it on one of that instance again.
So in my last output I think that this line:
    Service is enabled
    is equal to this line
Service is enabled on instances: DB_NAME2
If I am wrong, can someone point the difference between the two lines based on my scenario?

  • ICloud preferences and other apps hang on iPhone, can't enable/disable services to sync. How to force-disable iCloud on iPhone?

    Hi,
I've been having a lot of problems since upgrading to iOS5 and enablind iCloud on my iPhone 4:
    - I've had both Contacts and the Phone app freeze repeatedly. Contacts often freezes when going back up to the "Groups" view, and I have to force-quit it to continue using it. I've also had repeated crashes of Phone when trying to view contacts.
    - Whenever I try to enable or disable services to sync in the iCloud settings screen, it hangs forever in the twirling "Turning on/off" notification. I've left it running for at least an hour once and it never finished. I have to force-quit the Settings app, and the change I request never gets applied.
I've tried restoring the phone from backup and also resetting all preferences, but the problem persists ("reset all preferences" doesn't seem to erase the iCloud settings).
I'm this close to resetting my phone to zero and reinstall everything by hand, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows of a way to forcefully disable iCloud on the iPhone, or anyone has seen these types of problems before.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can see what space is available to you on the phone at settings > general > usage > storage. It's the phone that needs the space (a little over 3 GB) to install iOS7.
Back ups or the space used by them isn't really relevant for installing iOS7, but that's not something you can see at iCloud.com.

  • Which MSXP Services does FF Need? When Disabling Services; extentions, addons, themes stopped working

I disabled some Service in MS Windows XP Home SP3 cause my Internet only lagged in Windows.. So i unchecked everything i didnt need or use.. Windows works wonderfull, runs even faster than before.. Only my extentions, Add-Ons, Plugins and Themes stopped working except for one.. The spelling-checker.
So, my question is which Windows Service Process prob. disabled this when i shut down the services.. (By asking this i want an answer so i only need to enable 1-2 processes and not the dumb-ass answers where you advice to turn everything on again)
    PS.
Troubleshooting Information included but i didnt find any complaints there

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • Disabling service auto-discovery

a client has a 10.5.x server that was "converted" to an advanced config from standard.
it seems whatever determines service auto-discovery for clients is still active, and i need to disable this feature. so, for instance, when a user logs into client machine, ichat, ical, and mail automatically configure themselves with accounts, even though the details may not be correct.
    how do i disable this?
    thanks for any help.

    replying to myself…
i think this might be it, but can anyone confirm?
in wgm, there's a ServiceConfiguration record. the relevant bit looks like this:
    <dict>
    <key>IsStandardConfig</key>
    <true/>
i'm guessing changing that key to false will prevent clients from automatically discovering and configuring services, correct?

  • Disabling Services that don't appear to exist

Chances are they aren't installed. I'm thinking specifically of ftpd. Even the ftp client may not install by default.I'm confused by "netstat"--not aware anything with that name ran as a service. I think there was something called an "echo" service, but I'm pretty sure it is deprecated.
You could try the command:service statusegText# service ftpd statusftpd: unrecognized service
Text# service status bootpdstatus: unrecognized serviceNote that if you do have an ftp daemon running, it is probably vsftpd, or proftpdText# service vsftpd statusvsftpd (pid 30961) is running...
Post the checklist (or link) that you're working from.

I'm following a checklist for a RHEL 6 server build that includes the disabling of quite a few services to include bootpd, echo, finger, ftp, rlogin, netstat, etc. However, when I run a chkconfig --list, none of these services are shown.
Are these services disabled in some way other than through the use of chkconfig or am I following outdate instructions?

  • Disabling service guardian by zero timeout deprecated...

We wanted to disable the service-guardian feature (with Coherence 3.6) but saw in this in the log:
2011-03-22 14:30:59.194/1.675 Oracle Coherence GE 3.6.0.0 <Warning> (thread=main, member=n/a): Disabling the service-guardian by setting a timeout of 0 has been deprecated. Instead, please configure a "service-failure-policy" of "logging" which will perform non-invasive monitoring of Coherence services.
Do this mean that it worked in this release but that we better fix it in the new way for a future release (the normal meaning of deprecation!) or is the service guardian still left running if this message is prineted (i.e. we need to use the new way already now for it to work)?!
    /Magnus

    Hi Magnus -
For now setting the guardian timeout to 0 will disable the guardian, however configuring a 'service-failure-policy' as 'logging' with an appropriate timeout
will provide information logged regarding stuck threads.

  • Disable online services/features in Acrobat Reader DC?

With the new update being released from Reader to Acrobat Reader DC, I have concerns with the use of cloud storage and storing sensitive data.
I have looked around and the only information I have found for disabling these new features are in reference to groups who use the Acrobat Customization Wizard DC, which means they would be running an Enterprise version.
I have installed and tested the new Acrobat Reader DC on both Windows and OS X, there are no obvious options for disabling the services that I am referring to.
    Services I am referencing:
    Adobe cloud storage service
    Sending and tracking documents
Syncing across multiple devices (by use of cloud storage)
Is there a way to disable the use of these services on an individual (non Enterprise) install of Acrobat Reader DC?
    Thanks in advanced!

You can use the Adobe Customization Wizard DC on both Reader DC (Classic or Perpetual) versions.
    Adobe Customization Wizard
You can also use the Windows Registry to turn these services OFF.

If they disabled services, then they disabled Find My iPhone (if they're smart), so you won't be able to track it and/or wipe it.  Messages won't work either.

  • Unnecessary services to disable?

I have been doing some optimizations to my system, and I am at the point to where all I need to do is disable some unnecessary services.I mainly use my PC for gaming and surfing the internet. I have a decent system, I'm just trying to squeeze as much out
of it as i can without disabling important things.( e.g. Services like Superfetch.) I understand that some services should be set to manual to avoid problems and still get a resource gain. My question is: What are some or all unneeded  services that are
