Disadvantages of using page flows

Hello Friends,
I am using page flows for the first time. I would also need to run the web application under another j2ee server. I know that we can use the portability kit to do this transformation.Even though I understand that using page flows have certain advantages, I wanted to know whether there are disadvantages to using it too?
Some specific questions I had was:
1. Does using page flows slow down the web application?
2. Does using page flows increase the web app size?
3. Does it make it difficult to maintain?
4. Does using the portability kit have some disadvantages?

Hi Gabriel,
using BPm is always advantageous  only thing is that complex scenarios are named as BPM.So it is complex
once you get the idea of BPM then no disadvanges.

    It has actually gotten worse: jdeveloper doesn't even start anymore.
    I've removed all workspaces from jdeveloper, restarted, created a new workspace and project. I added a struts-config file. I could open it, but when i tried to drop a data-page component on it, an error message was displayed. Then i removed the workspace and restarted jdeveloper. BUt it doesn't want to restart anymore. • Javascript and page flows

    Hi
    I have my javascript code snippet as below in my jsp page (using page flows):-
    <SCRIPT>
    var contextName;
    contextName="<%= request.GetContextPath() >";
    </SCRIPT>
    The problem is I can never get the above value dynamically computed in my app
    . The value of contextName is always the static string - <%= request.GetContextPath()
    and not its value .Is there any way I can get the above expression to be evaluated and the evaulated
    value be assigned to contextName.
    Thanks
    Kar

    Kar,
    I think the problem here is that scriptlets (<%= ... %>) aren't
    evaluated in a .js file, only in .jsp files. This is because they are a
    JSP feature. I recommend you declare the variable you need in your .js
    file in a small script section in your JSP that refers to the .js file,
    or some variation of this.

    Thanks for pointing out the typo :) . Actually the problem I am facing is that
    I am trying to use an external javascript file in a template file as
    <netui-template:includeSection name="jscriptSection" defaultPage="/resources/scripts/generic.js"></netui-template:includeSection>
    where generic.js has my javascript code . This is basically spoofing the page
    flow framework to read an external javascript file (Which it does properly ---
    well almost). The problem is it is never able to evaluate the <%= request.getContextPath()%>
    tag and spits it out as is . However if I change the name of generic.js to generic.jsp
    and have the javascript code in it as is, at runtime it is able to proplely evaulate
    the javascript contents in generic.jsp . So right now I have all my javascript
    code in a .jsp file (which Idonot like ). I want to be able to create .js file
    and hook it into the template framework in some way so that it is able to successfully
    evaulate expressions.
    Can u share the syntax or a tip as to how to include a .js file in a template

  • Page flow inheritance in Workshop 10 application structure?

    This question will probably expose my relative ignorance in this forum but I don't know who else to ask. I'm trying to use page flow inheritance to extend an abstract base controller class to controllers for several projects (which should all behave the same way but have different jsps, templates, and configuration parameters) in an application. I can't figure out how/where to build the base class and where it needs to be in order for the project controllers to have access to it. I tried building the class in its own project and exporting a jar, or including the module in an enterprise app - although I've been able to build and deploy some of these attempts, everything I've tried gives runtime errors that seem to be due to classes/files not being found because the application structure isn't workable. If anyone has examples of how to do this, or suggestions for other ways to do this besides inheritance, I would be very happy to hear them.

    This is why you break your application into task flow, this allows you to have a hierarchy of taskflows and one icon in a diagram that can represent a complete flow.

    Here you go :
    HttpServletRequest outerRequest = ScopedServletUtils.getOuterRequest(request);
    Once you have outerRequest object, you can retrive the values much like

  • Applet and Page flow communication

    Hi
    we have a design requirement where we need to have access to various peripherals
    like cash drawer,point of sales printer etc form the client workstation. We are
    usign workshop for development and we are looking into integrating an applet into
    the pageflow(actually the pages created using page flows) and need to be able
    to pass data into the applet at run time from the page (created usign page flow)
    like commands to open the cash drawer, to start and end the printing .
    Is it possible to pass data from the pages created using page flows into the applet
    at run time? if so could someone share a small code snippet.
    Thanks
    Keith

    Keith--
    You can do this if you use the JSP to render data into the applet's
    <param/> tags. For example, you can evaluate expressions that bind to
    the JPF / action form / request / etc and render the output using the
    <netui:content> tag.
    In your JSP, this might look like:
    <param
    name="<netui:content value="{pageFlow.someName}"/>
    value="<netui:content value="{pageFlow.someValue}"/>"
    />
    If the value of {pageFlow.someName} is foo and the value of
    {pageFlow.someValue} is bar, then this would write:
    <param name="foo" value="bar"/>
    If you have a data set to render in <param/> tags, you can certainly
    nest something like the example above inside the <netui-data:repeater>
    and use the "container.item" binding context.
    Hope that helps...

  • Using a control implimentaion file in BEA page flows?

    I'm using BEA Weblogic 9.2 and I've created a custom JDBC control to use in my project with page flows.
    My control has 4 files:
    1.) myModel.java: contains the class that represents the table.
    2.) myControl.java: the interface for the control.
    3.) myControlDB.java: public interface that extends jdbcControl and contains the basic operations for the database. No actual methods, just sql commands in the annotations.
    4.) myControlImpl.java: Contains the business logic for the control and has the @ControlImplimentation annotation.
    However, I'm not sure what purpose the "control implimentation" file servers. I can't use it in the page flows, and I can't add it to the "referenced controls" list.
    How do I use this control implementation in my page flows?

    Hi,
    Does your custom control appear in the insert -> control -> existing control option ?
    Can you also verify that the corresponding method is created in the custom control interface
    In the source view, place the cursor on the custom control method, and enter Ctrl + 1, select the create in super type option. This should create the corresponding method in the interface.
    I've also listed the link to our documentation which explains in detail about using database controls

  • Create multistep page flow using workflow

    Hello, I'm reading the OA Framework Developer's guide and trying to see how to use Workflow with the OA framework extension and on page 256 it says: To create a multistep page flow using workflow: ... this content is incomplete... please see the OA Framework forum for information on how to access these instructions.
    So here I am! I can't find the information on how to access these instructions. Can anyone help?

    I have that page from the older version, near the end it has in RED the following: "This content is incomplete as of the release 11.5.10 production documentation build. If you are a customer, please see the OA Framework forum for information on how to access these instructions. If you are an Oracle E-Business Suite developer, please see the live, work-in-process version of the OA Framework Developer's Guide for the latest content."
    Have you seen the actual tutorial, not just the description of using workflow to accomplish pageflow?

  • Use task flow or simple pages in CRUD?

    Hello,
    using JDeveloper 12c.
    In my case I use task flow to create a simple CRUD, i have two task flow, for it in the first I have a employees table and a button to create a new employee, the button has an action to go to another task flow where I have a Method call of CreateInsert which in turn go a view activity that has a form to create an employee.
    The problem is, when committing task makes a return to the main flow but the table not refreshes with the new employee, every task flow isolated handled transactions.
    I recommend, work the CRUD with task flow or single pages?
    thank you very much in advance.

    thank you very much, I got the exact answer, thank you very much again.

    Last point...who archives? On my regular email page I now have the Archive icon to the left of my Delete icon which I would prefer was to the left, first in the line as this is the icon I use mostly. With Folders, my Sent and Trash lists, who needs to archive?
    I can help you only with the placement of the icon placement -- if you right-mouse click on the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar, you can move an icon to where you want it to be.

  • Using Task Flow in the template page

    Dear all,
    I am beginer and I work with JDev 11.1.1.3.0
    In my application I've got a template page called 'templateDef1.jspx'. In this page on the top facet I've got two commands link: 'Asort' and 'Reports'.
    I've created a new JSF page called 'main.jspx' which is based on the templateDef1 and in the center facet I dropped an ADF Bounded Task Flow as a Region. This bounded task flow contains two pages ('asort.jsff' and 'report.jsff'). When I run the main.jspx page I can navigate from 'asort' to 'report' page fragment using the button inside the page fragments.
    Now I want to navigate to those page fragments using the commands link from 'templateDef1.jspx'. What should I do ?
    I've tried several things but nothing works.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Wojtek.

    Thank you a lot for you replies.
    Amit, I tried your solution but something doesn't work. I think the parameter isn't passing into the task flow.
    In my template page, after I added <af:setActionListener> I got two warnings: Reference "PageFlowScope.Flow" not found.
    The ref Center facet is refreshing properly, but it always displays the assort.jsff, because it is marked as default activity in my task flow.

    Hi-
    That may be on the right track, but the /index.jsp page gets displayed in the
    portlet...I am still within the portal framework, so I don't think I am loosing
    the context...

    you are most likely redirecting to the /error.jsp page and losing the
    context for
    your portal app. The index.jsp page may be defined as your <welcome-file>
    in your
    web.xml file. The best thing to do is to save the context before visiting
    error.jsp
    and then provide a link in error.jsp to go back. Look at javadoc for
    PageURL for
    obtaining the URL to a portal page, you can then save it in session of
    pass it
    to your error page.

    Hello-
    I have a page flow portlet that I am testing some exception handling
    on. Right
    now when I catch an exception, I display the global /error.jsp page,
    using the
    @jpf:catch tag. The problem is when I refresh the page after viewing
    the error
    page, the pageflow always pulls up the /index.jsp page at the root of
    the webapp.
    I have to get a new session to see the original page flow.
    This only happens when I am running the Jpf as a portlet...I don't see
    this behavior
    with it stand-alone.
    I am not sure why the index.jsp page is being called...there are noreferences
    to it in my jpf code...
    thanks,
    Howie

  • Multiple Browsers with the same Page Flow

    I have a legacy application that I am working on migrating to Weblogic. The
    legacy application allowed the user to have multiple windows of the same
    module open at the same time. Users found this useful if they wanted to look
    at two different records in the same module. For example, if you had a
    registration app and you wanted to look at Joe's registration information
    and Sue's registration. Is it possible to have two browsers within the same
    session open and pointing to the same RegistrationController.jpf?
    Thank You.
    Michelle

    I believe our problem is that our form beans are class members of the page
    flow thus when you open another instance of the same controller the form
    beans are overwritten. Our GUI is displayed as modules containing multiple
    tabs with a form bean for each tab. The module has a controller, signifying
    the page flow for the module. So, one record in a module will span multiple
    tabs. We did not want to have one big form bean that is why we multiple
    form beans. But it now looks like we will need to store these form beans
    perhaps to the session in a collection identified by the window instance
    they belong to.
    We also need to do multiple different page flows but I don't think nested
    page flows will not work here because the page flows would almost need to be
    nested of each other. I guess you could almost think of as each module is
    an independent application however some can be invoked by others.

    Hi Michelle,
    Yes, that should be just fine. That page flow will remain the "current
    page flow" as requests from both browser windows hit it. The NetUI
    runtime synchronizes the action methods, so you don't need to worry about
    thread-safety within them.
    There's also a way to have multiple different active page flows at the
    same time, but in this case you don't need to do anything special.

  • Multiple instances of Page Flows

    We currently have our form beans stored in the page flow which seems to
    cause a problem as when we open another browser instance in the same session
    pointing to the same page flow, the form beans from the first window are
    overwritten. An approach we are possbily looking at is to store the form
    beans in an object in the session and identify a set of form beans as
    belonging to a particular window instance - perhaps by uniquely naming the
    windows as they are opened.
    Has anyone done this before with needing to have multiple instances of the
    same page flow or multiple instances of different non-nested page flows open
    at the same time?
    Michelle

    Hi Vijay,
    Thanks for the reply, But that's not the right aproach.
    I cannot change the application to stateless, Since the standard application where the page resides is statefull.
    Also some of the business logic I cannot achive with stateless application
